This game never fails to amaze.. (EW Delivery Quest Spoilers)

Deleted because apparently people thought this topic was a joke and not serious. It was supposed to be serious, but whatever.

It's only appropriation if a white person does it. Seeing as the game's designed by Japanese, it doesn't count.

Case in point; my Japanese mother-in-law (from Japan and living there) sent me (a white guy) some traditional Japanese attire to wear at a Japanese festival here in the US. The non-Japanese Asian *American* didn't catch flak for wearing theirs, but I sure did even when holding my wife's (who was decked out to the nines in a fancy kimono) hand. It truly makes me sad that these things happen in the world these days.


The character in question's an anthropologist, does it count as CA if it's for academic research purposes?

Yeah he's a researcher, not an Instagram cam grubber. I didn't get the impression that he was that old, either. Certainly not rich - he had research grants. And he was tasked with identifying the best parts of other cultures by the Forum to help in preparation for the great exodus. With the exodus cancelled, he was free to drop the charade and admit he really liked his assistant. It's frankly pretty similar to the relationship I had with my husband when we first started dating; I was a senior in college and he was a 2nd year PhD student, TAing low level education classes. (I was not an education major so this was kosher.) Except instead of being an anthropologist studying other cultures, he was a educational sociologist studying informal education in our own culture.

The fisher quest, on the other hand, was a spot on assessment of the fear that a non-tenured professor feels when they don't have their current research project completed. That one hit way too close to home. PUBLISH OR PERISH

Edit: And the metalworking quest is pretty spot on about the petty backstabbing in academia, now that I think about it more.

If you compare a world map of Hydaelyn with Earth, you find a lot of interesting analogues:

Doma is China, Hingashi is Japan, Garlemald and Corvos are Eastern Europe, Thavnair is India, Aldenard is Western Europe, and Sharlayan... is Great Britain.

What did Great Britain do? Make colonies all over the world, abandon them, hoard resources, then isolate themselves when things start going south.

What is Sharlayan doing? Make a colony in Aldenard, abandoned it, hoard resources and knowledge, then isolate themselves when things start going south.

I'll say!

The whole of the Studium quests reminded me all too closely of real world academia. I've only recently regenerated my soul post-grad work and didn't need those needles jabbing at me again. ;) No lie though, I also got goofy grins at times from warm fuzzies related to that time as well.

My other half finished his PhD and then lucked into a tenure track position, and is now a full professor - a feat he likens to smoking a pack a day and living to be 100. After seeing what he went through, I quit after a master's degree. {No thanks.}

Academic politics is regular office politics cranked up to 11. Alliances form and shift as policies change. Sometimes you go for a position you don't even particularly want just to make sure that other person doesn't get it.

Want to hear something funny that shows how dumb American SJWs are?

I worked on a US/Japanese joint base in Japan for a few years and every year we had a festival where all of the Americans were encouraged to wear traditional Japanese attire. The Japanese people loved it. It's only the American leftwing professional offendatrons who get butthurt over stupid things like "cultural appropriation" or whatever made up term they're calling it this week.

On an unrelated note, you don't know ugly until you've seen a 7ft tall neon white, bald, skinny navy captain in a Kimono and the traditional wooden sandals.
