FFXIV is in dire need of some form of Racial Activity's/Bonuses to allow Diversity in Eorzea. i do not know if this is planed for 2.0, but it needs to happen on launch of 2.0.

i cant walk an inch with out running into a spawn of cat girls or taru's, its bothersome to me but i cant quite figure out why...is it cosmetic or is the fact there are just so many.:confused:

if anyone can trump my forum crawling skills and post a link to any information regarding racial information i'd aprrreciate it.

I would actually prefer not... it was a pain in FFXI and it would be a pain here... one whom devotes herself to a job should be as proficient as that of another.

The problem my dear is the lack of race choice along with a lack of custom features. I know several people who would opt for other classes if only 'they had better hair' or 'if they had a tail' and the like.

ik what u mean OP. like in xi where sandorians dispised bastok and bastok despised every1 and windy was hippy town where no1 cared. and u felt and saw all that while playing. especially the hatred of galkas in bastok. ik what u mean brah.

If I recall.. I believe Yoshi-p said that That Races will have their own starter gear and Race stats... Now if I can just find the source....

Dress it up how every you like cat girl is still a cat girl, my issue is the sheer amount of people rolling cat girls...and why wouldnt you they have the best animation set ive seen so far for combat. the galka's look like there in post mordom, the male elves are more feminine than the females, High landers are left handed :(, Tarus are too small to see what there doing, and Midlanders are like OMG back to basics.

You can't control how many people roll a certain race or not, however they are giving us more choices with 2.0 so hopefully people will distribute a little more diversely. However race specific stats, foods, etc... is not the way to go. Animations, sure but outside of aesthetic changes I can't agree with any of it.

I wish it was a little more varied. Not by much but slightly more, I liked the concept of knowing in the back of your mind that Galkas had more HP, Tarus had more MP, Mithras had more DEX, etc, even if you didn't really care about all that when you formed a party because it never was a huge difference.

I also hope that when 2.0 character creation comes out, they give us the option to see example gear and play around with emotes before choosing. That might just help draw people away from Miqo'te. :P

There are a bunch of Mi'qote and Lalafel according to XIVpads' census, although it may not be dynamically updated and could be inaccurate for a number of reasons.

an incentive to roll somthing else besides Taru's and cat girls would be nice.

exactly people are rolling a race for asthitics. thats not going to net you any diversity, even more so when a game looks as good as this one.

I would rather not see racial difference, players should be able to choose the race they want based on appearance and not later find out they are screwed out of stat difference because of the look of their character.

When they add male miqo'te, viera (possibly), female Rogedyn there will be plenty of people who will want switch to that in 2.0 or make new characters.

Fact is nobody wants to be a human in a fantasy game because its boring, so don't be surprised when you are in the minority.

I'd rather have people choose the race they want as opposed to the one they feel obligated to create due to bonuses. That's ridiculous and bad design. People shouldn't feel that they are gimped on some class or another just because of the race they chose, that's stupid.

I dunno about you but the group I play with is pretty diverse race wise in-game. There's at least one or two of every race/gender represented and it's not exactly a huge group. I don't feel like it's really an issue either way though, let people make what they want to make, forcing them to do otherwise is not good for anyone.

Is it just me, or are 95% of the female Tarus/Lalas in both FFXI and FFXIV Japanese players?

The big thing I like about this MMO is that the racial stat differences and racial abilities are virtually non-existent.

But my mind could have changed if:
a) a vanity slot for highlander/midlander males allows them to wear subligar, with the camera anchored in front of them all session long
b) lalafell didn't have the body shapes akin to a bowling ball pin, not that I'm against bowling or somehow related to my inability to Wii bowl.
c) if hyur female didn't have extensive arm flailing side to side when running, hardly felt like a fighter
d) if miqo'te female could sit like a hyur female

And since I would be sitting less since it has little/no impact on recovery, I figure it was the best way to move forward.

We can't change their minds anymore than we can get people to use Limsa and Gridania market wards.

I would be up for something like a 2hr ability that each race has a choice of a few.. or something to make them different. I just dont want it to be something that would determine if you got in a party

Actually, this is a pretty cool idea, and I'm violently against anything that would force someone to pick a race they don't want just for stats and abilities. Something that is unique to each race, but can only be used extremely rarely and is only marginally powerful; it would distinguish each race, without really giving any one an advantage in a given role.

The longer the recast or the less powerful the ability, the more marginal the effect it would have in polarizing the race/role segregation. At the same time, it would give some extra flavor to the races.

That being said, I do not think it should go beyond that. Giving players incentive to choose a different race than they want to play is just wrong. I cannot tell you how many times I saw Galka WHMs actively shunned from parties in FFXI. It's not fun for them, and it's not fun for the party that has to choose between being asses or suffering from the mechanic.

I'll probably get flamed for this and told I'm wrong, but I think most people just have a furry fetish.

I imagine you'll see more catBOYS once 2.0 comes out. But who knows, maybe the guys playing Miqo'tes would still prefer their aesthetics to playing something that represents their true gender. It is a game so you should play what makes you happy.

this doesn't make any sense. under what logic does any race bonus\Incentive prevent anyone from creating the character they want to. just because a Lalafell might have a better affinity towards Magic doesn't mean people are going to stop going DD on them, just because mi'qote can Dodge and evade better doesn't mean people are going to stop playing mage on them, just becuase a galka or whatever there called in 14 has a better affinity towards DD Doesn't mean people are going to stop playing EVA based jobs.

they'll be better at what they do and in no way does it stop or hamper your choices.

The race bonus actually caused the opposite to occur for me in FFXI

I picked Mithra because I intended on being a THF. Eventually I switched to WHM because THF couldn't get any parties and then BST because Mithra are the awesomest looking BSTs.

Anyway. I fell in love with the furry little creatures and I couldn't imagine being anything else.

It doesn't stop a player from creating the character. But it does alter the community's perception and tolerance for races on certain job combinations. And that hinders a player's ability to find parties using the race and job they want to, which may impact a player's enjoyment of the game.

It has happened before in other games, where racial incentives have shifted preferences.

The FFXI community may have discriminated against a Tarutaru tank, because he doesn't have HP, amongst other things, to survive enough attacks to be healed properly. If this were true here, we might see less Lalafell Paladins or Warriors here accepted into parties.

Or discrimination against a Galka mage, because he doesn't have the MP to continue healing or dealing damage. We might see less Roegadyn White Mages and Black Mages here, because their MP pool, healing potency and magic damage will be significantly weaker than any other race's mages.

Well doesn't your taru look similar to the taru of FFXI...one of the most popular face choices at that. It's about time you get over it, it was initially stated they reused the same races purely because it would be familiar to players of XI moving over that wanted to recreate their characters and logically people would call them by what they really are. The only difference is backstory, aesthetically they're all the same with a few changes, i.e lalafell can have moustaches and roegadyns lack a tail.

this is true but, FF14 now has a way to make up for those shortcoming's in 11. between materia, accessories and point allotments you can build any race to suit any job/class.

it doesn't even have to be "those" kind of bonuses, it could be a 2 hour, it could be racial content. give an incentive to roll another race.

It does raise the point though: People seem hardpressed against racial bonuses yet almost every other MMO out there have a Racial Bonus or Class Bonus of some kind and no one complains unless it's utterly overpowered.

I actually stopped playing World of Warcraft, mostly because I was bored with it, but also because I couldn't play an undead hunter/tauren warlock/etc.

I don't mind minor stat changes, honestly. It's going to be 3 points or so extra on one stat or something. So long as something like a Roegadyn WHM isn't taboo, like it was when FFXI first came out.

Miqo'te only seem to have furry tails and ears. They are 10%.

It doesn't stop you but it hinders you. If one race has more MP or INT than all the others, which do you think people would prefer for a BLM? If one race has higher evasion than all of the others, which do you think people would prefer for a Monk? You're not forced to go with those choices but the community tends to shun anything that's not the best of the best and that in turn makes it impossible for some people to actually play their preferred class/job in parties because of their race. People already don't like taking certain class/jobs into some fights as it stands, can you imagine how much worse it would get if race was also a factor?

Yes things like materia exist but when stats differ to any great amount, two equally geared players of different races will always be that far from each other. If the stats don't differ to an amount that matters, what's the point of even having the different stats in the first place? If it doesn't matter, there's no point. If it does matter, the community will shun any non-optimal combination.

I'm all for race specific customization options, animations, emotes and even gear look varying a bit based on race but anything outside of that and it starts to create more problems than it's worth. The development of the game hasn't been going in that direction anyway so I wouldn't count on it being part of the 2.0 plan.

So then how about we don't go with the FFXI style of race bonuses (which were more like race disadvantages), and we do something more similar to WOW or RIFT, where you simply get some almost inconsequential, highly situational, but fun and visually distinct abilities?

The majority of those MMOs, if not all of them, have vertical character scaling and expect your character to be locked into one class for the majority, if not the entirety, of its existence. This game is different, in that it uses horizontal character scaling. Rather than providing us with an endless rat race of improvement for one class, this game wants players to improve by broadening their capabilities through the leveling and use of multiple classes. Abilities by nature are used by certain roles -- caster, dps, tank, etc. Giving each race a unique ability is pretty much allowing them an additional edge in one of the combat roles compared to other races, and in a situation where different races begin to fill different roles better than others, players start feeling like different races are locked into filling certain roles, which goes against the game's core focus on encouraging players to level and play multiple classes.

I'm not saying that you don't have a point -- people may still accept racial bonuses in this game if they were to be implemented. However, I have a hard time imagining the devs ever implementing them because of the potential for it to go against their game's foundations. If they were to implement racial bonuses, I see them being more along the lines of non-combat bonuses in order to preserve the encouragement of combat flexibility. Perhaps bonuses for DoH and DoL would work, and those could even be tuned in such a way that they could help balance out the different areas of supply in the market if they took the most popular races and gave them abilities for the least popular DoH and DoL classes, as well as the reverse. Or the bonuses could be passives that don't relate to any classes at all, with things like 10% faster anima recharge rate or 10% more crystals from mobs. A situation where abilities contribute to any sort of combat proficiency though, which is when players start getting concerned about balance and fear of "overpower" as you pointed out, I think is very unlikely to be added into this game.

Please no, racial choice should be cosmetic only imo, I'd rather not have a repeat of the nonsense that was FFXI's racial system and the way the community handled it tyvm.
