1st time preparing for an expansion

If I play one job through the entire 6.0 MSQ. Would it be tough to gear up another job(s) for high-end side content?

I've read a speculation that ilv 510 gear should be able to get you through 6.0. Does that mean I don't have to worry about grinding and gearing up when questing through 6.0 main story?

I ask only because I want to save time and still couldn't decide what job to play through 6.0. Certainly I'm convinced to play PLD but I ain't a fan of its actions and its, with all due respect, terrible job backstory.

Upgraded tome gear should probably be available for poetics like Skaevan gear is now upon release. I would suggest you max out your tomes before xpac and whatever other items you can currency wise,

Upgraded tome gear will get you most of the way to 90 and there will be tons of gear chests from MS and side quests.

Usually the best ilvl gear from the previous expansion is good until the X5 / X7 dungeons, after that you'll get stuff that got more stats / ilvl and you'll switch to those.
If they do like shadowbringer they will give you gear during early MSQ that is the minimum you need to do the first dungeon etc.
Dunno if you remember it but they give away a ton of free stuff during MSQ so no matter what you'll play start with 510 HQ and pick up everything they'll give you and you will be good.
When you're done with MSQ you'll get 2 extremes fight avalaible, one must give the best weapon avalaible at the start, the other one must give you accessories that are good too.
Raid nm comes out, and then savage later and the cycle is there again.

It will get you through the first few levels gear wise, but I would NOT be using 510 gear anywhere above 84 at most based on past experience. You will also probably get quest rewards along the way for your desired job, so you probably don't need to grind dungeons (much) and/or buy gear for it, which I'm assuming is PLD based on your post. Either way the same would apply for any job, but more so for healers and tanks for everyone's benefit. They should, ideally, stay in tip top shape on the way to max level as best as they can. But if you buy the Cryptlurker gear which will be purchasable for poetics with Endwalker, you'll be good until around 85-86 ish based on what they've done in the past. Personally, I think it's worth the poetic farm for the quick boost.

You can have the best tank gear avalaible, if your dps hits like a wet noodle you'll run out of CDs pretty fast when it comes to tank trashmobs.
Dps gear is as important as the 2 others.

I never said it wasn't important, just that tanks and healers keep everyone alive and kicking so they should focus a lot more than most on staying geared. I even said that questing gear was available for dps too. lol

Dont say "more for tanks and heals" then, it's the same for all the jobs, you make it sounds like that dps should not care about it as much as the others, which is wrong and what i'm pointing out.

No as a healer if my tank is under geared we can be in trouble real quick. Got to love the under geared tanks on top of it who like to pull wall to wall. Also if I'm not well geared my heals will be weak even with a geared tank I might have to struggle to keep them up depending upon the pulls.

Dps should gear as well but I don't agree it as important as tank and heals.

And bad dps will take ages to kill the adds and the tank run out of Cds and you'll need to heal even more in the end.
All the jobs are important and i really dont get why some do believe that tanks and healers are more important than DPS.

Then play what you want instead of feeling like you must be PLD just because of the launch trailer. The story should be job agnostic as usual. I can't think of anything in the previous MSQs that made me feel like I should have been using one of the jobs featured in the cinematics.

Considering past expansion patterns, 510 probably won't cut it all the way when the initial gear rewards we get from MSQ will almost certainly be 515. 530 would get you most of the way, supplemented by any higher level dungeon drops you pick up at the tail end of the MSQ.

No, not at all. The gear from your quests has no relevance to endgame gear. Once you reach max level on your desired class, this gear will be obtained with Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism at first, which you get from dungeons and then after 4 weeks we will get Allagan Tomestones of Astronomy that will allow you to get 1 piece of gear a week.

It could but be aware the item level the game expects you to have for it reaches 560 and you get gear coffers from the quests that you can open on a class of your choosing, so there's no reason not to do that. You can buy lower quality versions of that gear from vendors in each sanctuary or buy other people's from the market board. Remaining 510 is making it difficult for yourself but I've no doubt really good parties can still make it work.

I'd love to main RPR through the msq but I'm not exactly sure how bad will raid queue time affect the whole experience (I'm sure I'll do most if not all dungeons in TRUST). It feels like playing tank is the easy option, and might as well be PLD since it's the poster boy. I honestly feel bad picking up a class just because of that though:(

If you want to level Reaper, then level Reaper, there is no point in going through the story as a job you don't like as you will just constantly be thinking, I wish I was Reaper.

If you want to level a tank after, then there is nothing stopping you from doing so. It doesn't even have to be Paladin since you seem to abhor it so much. There are 3 other tanks after all.

If you are worried about queues, then they are always going to be in a weird spot after an expansion launch and don't really level out again for a month or 2. Your queue times should be the least of your worries in deciding what to play.

iL520 gear gets replaced by lvl 83 dungeon drops (This is the 2nd dungeon in the expansion).
iL530 gear gets replaced by lvl 85 dungeon drops (This is the 3rd dungeon in the expansion).

There are two leveling dungeons left. lvl 87 and lvl 89 dungeons. The last two dungeons are usually a pain to heal on release because people are not 100% used to playing their jobs yet + almost everyone is not well geared.

Tbh doing well in leveling dungeons has nothing to do with gear but all with skill, i can heal mt gulg as a scholar with scaven gear just fine even if the tank isn't well geared. The difference between the best set from the last expansion and the last leveling dungeon set are 18 itemlevels which boils down to literally nothing at all. Sure it's neat to equip all the new gear you get but i pray for the day to come where people stop putting so much weight into gear when it has little no literally no impact at all besides like 1k more hitpoints or some couple hundred points of damage more.

Rather focus on getting into a dungeon/trial with full knowledge of your rotation and skills and you will be just fine.

Max ilvl of past xpac can get to x7 comfortably. 510 should get you to 85 comfortably, you really should take ever chance to gear up from dungeon drops. The first one won't have better than past xpac best, but the rest will. But gear only goes so far, skill and fight knowledge play much bigger factors. Like i can do mt gulg just fine before they gave the aug scaven gear, but i've seen sycned healers struggle with it.

It'll be super easy to re-gear a new job while leveling. World quest and dungeon runs will get you all the gear you need. Plus you can spend your tomes on high end gear that'll last you till 83 ~ 84.

Speak for yourself, Holminster Switch was much hard to heal then Malikah's Well. First dungeons, worse dungeons. Later on people remember that dodging is good if they wanna live. People are really relaxed on mechanics because of over gearing but by the 3rd one they fear the glare of whm on them instead of mobs.

If you really want to play Reaper for MSQ then play Reaper. We've got so many different ways to get XP that getting it to 80 should be fairly quick. If you do end up using Trust, queue times will only be a problem for the 3 trials and you might be able to find a tank friend to help with those (I expect healer queue times to be mediocre because of Sage).

The worst thing you can is treat this like another "rush to end game" MMO. The journey is far more important in this game. Do what will be the most fun for you instead of perceived convenience. For all we know, tank queue times might end up bad with a lot of other players also deciding to go the PLD route.

Gear coffers will fall like rain, just like prior expansions. Everyone is way overthinking this. Just play the game and have fun, it's not a job interview or something

You can also get this from squadrons. Gives the same EXP for 2 hours that a grade 3 action does

This was clarified already. I never said that dps jobs weren't as important as tanks or healers. Just that gearing priorities aren't always the same in some cases. Dps jobs can get away without gearing as intensively while leveling up, though I still believe it's important and would always recommend doing so, while healers and tanks have trouble staying alive and keeping others alive if they are too undergeared. You seem stuck on this for whatever reason and I'm not really sure why. It's not some personal attack or whatever. I'm sorry if I offended you or something?

Tbh the main content in this game is so casual that nobody really needs to do any preparation. Your first run through the msq will gear up the job you're currently playing, plus another couple jobs if you do the sidequests for more gear coffers. The dungeons along the way may get you gear for all the other jobs depending how many times you run them. Even if you don't want to do crafting to fill remaining gaps, people will sell that crafted stuff cheap on marketboard, especially since quests give you hq gear for free.
