Rescue needs to stop

I get it's purpose and what it can do if it used in it's intended way but lets be frank, it open to be used as a griefing tool.As a healer using rescue for it's intended use can help get others out of bad situation or if they are not familiar with mechanics that I cannot argue however the flipside is it prob gets used more to cause harm. Today I was running puppets bunker with a friend of mine and at last boss idk but I got singled out by devious plan (not sure if they were group of friends or what not) but what happen was during a mechanic with the ball splits and you have to gather in safe spot which i was in the healer went to unsafe zone and rescued me into it so I die on purpose. Then in party chat they all laugh and joke about it like it normal.. like it's a meme but it was most childish toxic behavior. I know i'm not only victim of this and i'm sure there more stories like this so coming back to the point on hand something needs to be done with rescue.Times I have it used on me when I don't want it used on me and well aware of mechanics but got used on me anyway when trying get bit more dps out.I think it can be reworked so it used on certain condition like if it a new player or if it's the players 1st time in the dungeon/trial/raid .Or least give an option that allows us to prevent rescue being used on us that does not want it used. I will not go as far to say remove because again there are legit times when it's useful however the griefers need to be stopped.Meme generation childish mentality going on to fuel griefing behavior is very detrimental towards the experience.

If we removed or changed something every time someone used something to grief someone. We wouldn't have anything left in the game. Just report them and move on rescue is fine as it is. There have been loads of positive uses with it. If people start ticking a box that they dont want it used on them then it becomes a useless skill.

There is already so little interaction and synergy left in combat between players, so having to get rid of one of the last "remnant" of these kind of abilities would be a bad idea. (Can't really view things like raids wide spells as interesting "interactions")
Doing this, as said up, would be the equivalent of opening the pandora's box, after that who knows what we'll have to get rid of.
As of today, during fights it already feels like we are "playing at the same time as others" rather than "playing with others" with the lack of interaction, so the more we go this way, the less it's gonna be enjoyable (for me at least)
I can stand some idiots, easy to avoid them or even play with friends, but a stale and boring gameplay, not so much.

Clearly some of you failed to read what I wrote, tbh I had low expectations to think anything good would come from posting here so let me rephrase. I DID NOT say remove rescue I simply said not everyone wants to be "rescued" because it used as a tool to grief. Simply said what needs to be changed is allow people to opt from it somehow with exception to new players or players during duty for 1st time. Reason why griefers exist and things continue to happen is basic attitude of all here to let it all be and just ignore it. Ignoring problems does not make it disappear.. it just affirms them to be accepted.

If death in the game had meaningful consequences, then i might be inclined to agree with you. As is, it just doesnt. Report if they were really obnoxious(black list if needed), and move on.

And FYI, you can dodge their rescue if you REALLY want to. Your ability to prevent knockback/other forced movements works on rescue. That requires you to see the sneak attack coming and predict that you will be the target(or reflexively hit your skill any time someone runs out of a same spot), but it does totally work. You could also run in the opposite direction they went to the far edge of the safe zone - for some attacks this can put you outside rescue range.

Rescue isn't the only way someone can troll with. Any role for that matter can mess people over.

Tanks can drop cleaves and busters on people or can manage enmity with toggling stance and using Shirk. Are we gonna remove AOE busters and enmity tools now?

DPS can drop cleaving mechanics on other players to troll them or leave puddles in undesirable locations. We gonna remove AOE mechanics?

Healers can select how to heal and can choose to not heal you, they don't need rescue to mess you up. Are we going to remove healing from healers now and make it all a personal job to recover HP?

Look, you died to someone using rescue and then they laughed at ya. I fail to see how that has any bearing on your daily life. Well, any negative kind. Relax ^^

This is a game! You die at times. Sometimes coz you messed up, other times coz someone else messed up. And yes, sure! Sometimes ya get rescued into a big AoE and don't use your invul thingy and die.

So what? Rescue doesn't kill people, people do. Sorry, for this silly saying ^^

I, for one, would like to be able to cast it without being in combat coz It'd be great fun to rescue buddies back into my yard when they try and run! :3

I do min ilvl savage stuff for fun and death there absolutely has consequences. Should be way more for the rest of the game.

I dont consider a wipe and the attendant wasted time as consequences. A group failing and breaking up isnt really a "consequence" either. Ive played games where dying meant losing a level(like they recreated in eureka) or potentially losing all your equipment or even losing your character. If i die because some idiot is recreating a meme, i lose an extra 2% durability on my gear? That is literally nothing to me. On the other hand, dying on a BA run and not being able to finish? THAT is a consequence. The OP died one extra time in an alliance raid. Their "consequence" is an extra 200 gil on their repair bill, and the irritation at the person who caused it. So nothing.

I will point out at that you didnt read all my post then I also stated it becomes a useless skill if people can opt out on it.

You also lose credibility and point of the discussion when you attack the forum. If you want a discussion attack the points being made and not people themselves.

I loved XI as much as the next guy but gamers these days don't want it. And progging a fight for a few days (as in not winning first try) IS still a consequence.

Sorry about ur bad experience, but it sounds like its only one time this happened for you. You shouldnt go around blaming a whole generation for one bad raid group... I mean... lol.

I've been in afew bad groups before, it happens. Generally its just bored trolls who are making a joke to have fun and you are the one who suffers.

You can report them and you can leave the group and do something else.

Also if this continues to happen to you in random groups maybe there is something you are doing wrong to make them angry at you?

There's no reason to be pedantic. Their response was within the context of this question of trolling. Min ilvl savage fights aren't what's being discussed here. Those parties already have all the tools they need to fix people trolling and wasting their time already.

And i still disagree. Doing min-ilvl Savage fights means you are SIGNING UP for repeated wipes as your group figures out the mechanics(if blind) and/or figures out how to execute everything properly together. That means death isnt a consequence, its a feature of the content. And as Tarrick points out, you do already have the tools to deal with such tomfoolery. Tomfoolery which i would imagine would be far less common then what the OP was complaining about, which still doesnt really happen often enough to be a concern.

Being able to "opt out" of being rescued is as open to griefing too. What about mechanics where the best way to complete it is to rescue (hello world), you could grief by turning it off.

Also, lets opt out of provoke and shirk - can be used to grief.

Remember that debuff called "beyond death" - Well let us opt out of all shields and mitigation then because someone could use them to troll you and make you die.

Almost every skill in the game can be used to grief someone in some way.
Look forward to being kicked from parties or not being allowed to join for having the "opt out" status.

Rescue is kinda boring...i shouldn't have to save someone from an AoE, sometimes they have to learn

You can contact the support ingame. On PC it´s "ESC and customer service / infos -> contact tab. Don´t know where to find it on PS. But i highly doubt that someone is getting banned or so for using rescue, unless they´re starting to insult you afterwards in the chat. Sometimes it might be a missclick too.

There are fights, where the ppl which needs a rescue can´t do anything about it. Ramuh EX is probably the prime example. You haven´t done anything wrong, when others don´t free you. So rescue is a great tool.

I still remember with happiness the time when my 3 healers in D Reginae tried to kill me by "rescue" in the AoE on the last boss, because I told them they were slow and useless.

It allows a lot of craziness with this relatively useless skill except for the times I was able to "save" tanks that didn't know the mechanics to thank me afterwards, not all negative, but relatively very useless in most cases.

I guess it's my turn to respond to the bait post... I think rescue's functionality could be improved to make it more of an actual tool rather than a memey and occasionally useful ability. The problem with it as it is now is that using it has quite a delay to skill activation and arrival at actual location, which will often get the rescuee munched if you didn't react premptively/quickly. I'm sure most of it is due to bad netcode, but it'd be nice if rescue got to pull the target faster or even instantly teleport them next to you, like that one WoW priest skill. Heck, it could open up a new niche for it depending on how quickly it could let you escape someone from damage.

We did just fine without rescue in ARR. Its not that great of skill with its long cd. If every healer got reported for using rescue on someone that didn't want it there be none left hardly. It should be like a party teleport where gives you an option it want to accept it.

Adding an accept option to Rescue is a really bad idea; the point of the ability is to immediately save someone from a telegraphed attack or mechanic that would otherwise kill them. You just don't have time for them to somehow choose between accepting or rejecting it in a fraction of a second; adding that would make the ability pointless.

Letting someone set a character setting that makes Rescue never work for them is a bad idea too, since it means the healer ends up wasting time due to information that they couldn't have possibly known about in advance unless someone has a do-not-rescue-me icon directly next to them.

Either leave Rescue alone or remove it from the game, but don't add a weird middle step that would only harm gameplay; that said, I prefer the former because I like to use it if someone is literally going to die without my intervention. If you don't want to be rescued by me, then don't stand in attacks that will objectively lower your health to zero or knock you off the stage.

The solution is simple, it's not a prevention, it's enforcement.
There's already rules against harrasment.
If it was as simple as "report and move on" knowing that the mods would do the job and take care of the people using rescue to harrass, it would already be solved.

So, put this down as another way the mods fail.
