GM service is a joke

i feel that every time i go to the GM service that nothing ever happens.

i have reported people for using transphobic remarks in Novice network and that person was literally joking about how the GMs were doing nothing about how toxic they were being in chat.

I've reported harassment a few times and get copy paste response.

i mean i knew they had a rep for being useless but allowing this kind of behaviour while stating that they have a zero tolerance policy on harassment.

people can get banned for following a streamer around but your average player being harassed is perfectly fine.

Well, they won't tell you actions taken. They will tell you to add said player to your block list, and they will look into the matter. That's all you will ever hear.

my issue is more that the player was able to continue harassing and making the same kinds of remarks in novice network without any kind of repercussion. yet someone follows around a streamer and gets banned.

all they do is make it look like they don't tolerate harassment. if your just a general non streamer player then they don't care.

They generally respond to you within half an hour for harassment tickets.

Though, you have to be the target. And you can kick them from NN.

i was the target on the original comment. then the person continued and was reported every time - they did it publicly in novice network. continued for weeks even joking about how they were and i quote 'getting away with it'

Maybe the person didn't violate anything and you were just being hypersensitive and looking for something to be offended over?

I've certainly seen that plenty in game.

I will agree, the GM service is very faulty. Horrible transparency with situations and little to no communication. That said, it seems like this whole situation could’ve been avoided by just blocking the person and moving on. It’s best to just ignore situations like that, lest you start getting aggressive back towards them and you’re the one reported and suspended instead. But yeah....the GM’s are a joke and it’s funny to see people always use them in arguments as if they do anything significant.

Could be their first offense and just got a warning, and if you black listed them then you should no longer be seeing their comments, unless they are making alts to get around the BL.

If that is the case if they are going that far they most likely are using the Free trial at which point nothing a GM does will help ya since they can just create another trial account,=.

You misunderstand, the copy and paste responses are reasonable because they deal with the same sort of problems every single day and having a template makes it faster for them and allows them to make sure they respond the way they want to, with pleasantries. They are real people responding because they modify the templates if it's needed, but usually it's not and that's all they have to say.

They can't tell you what action they took but by many accounts of people I've spoken to over the years, they do take action if they can.

They don't actually have a reputation for being useless.

Players have a lot of tools to escape from people who are simply saying things they don't like, so I'm sure the GM's are less likely to drop everything if something in chat simply offended you. Blocklist him... Kick him from NN... I'm not saying don't report it, but it's not an urgent matter and may not be a high priority to resolve.

Now if a massive group of people were preventing you from playing the game entirely, that would need to be dealt with a bit more urgently.

If someone is truly using derogatory language towards trans people or any other minority group, they will have a suspension. Mods are usually very good at responding to these sorts of things. If someone is just being rude that's not really cause for any real reprimands.

FYI as many people seem to completely misunderstand how the GM system works. It does indeed to go to people but that's not necessarily the initial response you get. Have you ever sent an email or subscribed to something you and you get an automated response just as a confirmation? That's what happens with GM tickets. You submit it and it goes to the system. It essentially identifies key words and phrases. If it seems like it's a severe issue, such as life or death somehow, it'll get passed on to be handled. Overall though, they get added to a message queue along with the millions of other tickets they are going through. Since it can take days, weeks, or even months for someone to get to your ticket they try to make sure you include all the specific details that you can, so they are able to check out anything they might have archived on the servers. They also *can* sometimes make notations on accounts and will give warnings or take action once certain thresholds of violations occur.

The other thing to realize is that they have undergone drastic changes. It used to be a lot of GM and other departments worked in the same areas. As the years have progressed, they have distanced themselves more and more, to where often they never even see or communicate with each other. But as of this year, most actually work from home. Which also limits communication amongst each other. You can see evidence of that at these two links:

Anyway, main point is they have a lot to do and try their hardest. But those automated generic responses you get often aren't from them, but is from the system so they can review when they do get to the ticket. Sometimes phrases or words can get escalated and jump the queue, or if they see a sudden influx of issues around a person it can reflect in the system. The other thing though, is also to remember GM often have characters too. If they happen to be in an area or doing something and they see people doing something they shouldn't, such as the negativity you're seeing, they can take action even without a ticket. All we can do is be patient, submit tickets, and do our own little things.

Firstly I'm going to come into this with a slight bit of doubt.

If someone said something actually Transphobic they would have been immediately kicked from NN with the reason why posted.

The fact they were still apparently talking makes me question that.

I'll also add if you're weaponizing the rights of a protected group to try bait people to report them, you're no better than those that slur, so I sincerely hope you weren't.

Secondly if that was true, it's on the Mentors to kick them out of NN, the GMs will not tell you if they banned someone as it's against policy so you block them and likely the GMs will act.

the person was kicked however a NN kick is only 30 minutes. also constantly kicking people from NN can and will get a GM to deal with you for harassment.

as for weaponizing to bait people to report. tell me have i named the person or given any details further than my own experience with it?

no its nore about the fact that someone that is just a general player can have transphobic remarks made about them. im an EU player not NA so how would the bans actually affect me? it wouldnt its just SE doing their usual thing of making it look like they have a game that they deal with toxicity yet do nothing when a run of the mill player gets slurs used on them.

They were penalised appropriately because they were intentionally griefing.

NN kicks are what 30 min? Even then it I'd not uncommon for a even vile of comments to have supporters and defenders. So that may just may the person a target of others.

Either way people need to be less sensitive black list and move on life is too short to let people live rent free in your mind.

No, kicking people inappropriately from NN will get a GM warning. The most common one is a disruptive player being kicked from NN before actually causing any trouble, because of past issues or trouble they caused. Kicking a player legitimately will not result in punishment.

The GM's are very strict on genuine harassment or abusive/vulgar language, but they are not there to ban or warn everyone you get into minor arguments with or who let slip a mild word that offended you. Treating the GM's as some sort of weapon to turn on people who offend you slightly or you disagree with is misusing the system.

You need more detail. Theres a certain segment of activism online, in particular twitter, that act like a bunch of Karens who figured out how to act like Karens without receiving any pushback. Sorry but more details with your complaint the better. How do I know its legot transphobia when ive literaly seen so called trans activist yell that not putting pronouns on your personal bio is aparently transphobic. Hurts the movement really.

nah there is a player, that does this and holy smokes, do they hate spew racial and homphobic slurs out in novice. I am honestly convinced this person makes a trip to all data centers.

I highly doubt they haven't been banned someone that does that would be immediately banned for breaking the EULA.

If they are the same person and you can evidence it, send it straight to the GMs and put the report as ban dodging. Ban dodging is also an offence SE take very seriously and if you can prove someone is ban dodging they will get banned on any account they make.

This is the downside of free accounts unfortunately, people can continuously use an email to keep making new accounts to continuously be awful, SE however does take both offenses very seriously so be vigilant.

If you don't include timestamps on your report with an excerpt from the chat log, nothing will happen.

That said, maybe you need to take a step back here because what you may perceive as racist and homophobic remarks... may not actually be racist and homophobic remarks.

Your first problem is dealing with the Novice Network at all. Anyone who's anyone knows to avoid it like the plague.

I dunno man.
I've reported like 1 person a year since I started playing back in 2015 - and every single time a GM got back to me within an hour.
Even the times when I was like "this guy was telling sprouts to kill themselves - I'm not personally offended and don't need a response, just look at the log and probably give em a timeout"
Twice I could tell they almost immediately followed through on at least part of the report- one had named himself "Adelf Hilter", and another named himself outright profanity that I have no idea how it got through a filter - and those names disappeared from the lodestone within 24 hours after GMs forced a change.

Basically, they take that kind of thing seriously. Maybe you're over-reporting? Getting over-offended? Not accepting anything other than an instant, obvious ban as a response?

Isn't blacklist a thing in this game anymore?

One thing to keep in mind is that the NN is treated just like FC and LS chats when it comes to moderation by GMs. SE's rule for those channels is that they are player moderated and they will only step in if the person is doing something really really really atrocious. Such as telling people to kill themselves or making death threats. While it sucks that it means people can make disparaging remarks towards each other and get rather nasty, you do have the tools to deal with this in these settings such as kicking from the chat and black listing. Now if they intentionally attempt to circumvent those, THEN the GMs will step in.
