It took the GMs a while to investigate, but we can all sleep well tonight knowing that the GMs are watching over us and Asmon. Thank you.

Great community keeps getting greater.
Absolutely fair. Opinions on big streamers aside, this means they can actually handle large scale ToS violations and will address it. It's good to know, respect to the GM's for that.
Not gonna lie. I didn't really expect this whatsoever. Especially seeing as how en masse it was at first.
Yeah 9 days means he's been banned more than once
They must needs be put in gaol.
Any link to the ppl getting Mjollnir dropped on them?

As for the original source, even I am not so stupid as to link to 4chan directly on this forum lol
But just go on /vg/ and look into the /xivg/ thread (or archived thread) for yourself.
In case anyone is curious, this all happened because there were more people there supporting Asmon that began to actively report the people harassing him after Asmon got the automated GM response.
I'm happy to see the community come together like this, and to see action from the GMs.
The whale is 1 thing. I seriously hope that the person that kept playing high pitched nose that felt were drilling into my skull got banned as well cause holy fuck, that was actually painful.
I'm glad Asmongold's community put their foot down, and SE for following through.
I don't remember anyone saying that it was his fans harassing him.
I and others did say that it was members of his community/followers. Not everyone in his community is a fan of him.
You're going to have a hard time coming up with evidence that those getting banned aren't also members of his community.
Now even the media is covering this incident, I hope the toxic players are proud.

Hmm. now any chance we can get Asmon to report and follow bots around?
Cease thine bellyaching. Instead of constantly whining about the negative, how about you be glad the GMs are dealing with the filth?
Edit: Watching the video, even Asmongold's primary reaction isn't 'oh how horrible this community', no, his response is 'Wait, the GMs are actually dealing with them? Fucking awesome'.
The way he reacted to the GMs actually doing something was funny.
I take this to mean GMs in WoW don't do jack **** in cases like these?
I mean, on his stream he almost immediately assumed nothing would be done so why bother even really reporting. Thankfully he's now seeing visible action being taken and taking note that our GMs do in fact enforce. I'd say that's about as good a counter signal you want to these idiots harassing him, knowing that it will be dealt with.
Don't see why it would be anything else. He probably has enough common sense to understand that what he encountered doesn't represent the entirety of the community and that creating such a comment based on such limited interaction just adds fuel to the fire. - Of course he was going to get swamped, probably not the first time he's had it in a game, and probably won't be the last either
GMs in WoW do not care.
For example from personal experience, the day after the Pulse shooting there was a character named after the shooter jumping around Stormwind and eagerly getting people to laugh with him and yuck it up, and anyone who tried to speak out was subsequently ridiculed. I got an automated response from the GM after I reported that was basically, "Wow, that sucks. Sorry. You can ignore him."
From what I can gather (don't know too much) they're a bit more disconnected. I'm pretty certain the same GMs that handle WoW actually handle all the Blizzard games. Saves costs but at the same time it's less personal. They rarely need to talk as they have all the tools to do things (which helps explain why Asmon may have missed the GM's message follow up). I think Blizzard feels very much more corporate these days.
I remember having pretty good interactions with WoW's GM team way back in the day (Vanilla to Cata) and actually talking to someone, but my last few interactions on reporting issues in Legion onward until I quit again have been lackluster and full of automated or scripted responses. To me it felt like a steady decline in how they carried out their jobs in regards to communication, much like how there's been a decline in the quality of dev/community engagement over time there.
Oh I definitely understand that and agree. I'm just getting a little tired of all these 'gcbtw' band wagoners taking every possible opportunity to try and prove just how toxic the FFXIV community supposedly is. We all knew Asmon was going to get swamped both from members in our community who are either fans or are looking to make him quit, as well as his own community swarming in. Yes it reflects badly but it's just as important to see how that kind of shit is being dealt with.. and from the look of it, it's being dealt with well.
I just wish more in the community were as great as our GMs, I still remember the whole ERP PF debacle. Some were even calling for the GM in question to be fired*, if I recall correctly.
People will always take that cute little bandwagon as they seem to be of the mentality that cherry-picking the examples makes the community wholly toxic. I've seen an uproar of people on here scolding the community for its actions, yet not appraising the actions of those that have more than likely contributed to these reports having action being taken. But nah of course we're all still just completely and utterly as toxic as ever. That is not to say we don't have toxic circles, every game does.
Seemingly as people try to evangelize the community on social media, but conversely, there's an equal proportion on here that want to take up the crusade that everything is doom and gloom. I find a certain level of irony in this especially since some people in the latter prancing around in the GCBTW crusade have also on occasion been in the same crowd that is too afraid to even use say chat. Because apparently, the act of having a pulse and putting fingers on the keyboard is a bannable offense to them.
When this started happening I said a small section of the FFXIV community has embarrassed us by behaving terribly in front of hundreds of thousands of viewers. Since then we've had people try to rationalise the griefing, dismiss the griefing, and countless other things which has helped blow this issue up as well but it's nice to be able to come full circle and say, after a couple of days of talking this out, good job to that small section of FFXIV players who embarrassed us in front of a couple of hundred thousand viewers a few days ago.
Also a genuine great job to the people who helped report the griefers, and the GMs who are on top of the issue. I hope it continues.
One thing that's happening is with a couple of big streamers coming over, more and more people will feel it's a viable game to stream. There's a huge Spanish streamer streaming FFXIV atm adding 40k viewers to twitch. Which just gets more eyes on the game and hopefully more people into the community which is always a good thing :)
I think 9 days is not enough, should been longer or perma. Make an example out of these people. Regardless how you feel about Asmongold and wow players moving over to FF14 -- this shit shouldn't be accepted or tolerated on any level.
This is something that is confusing me, maybe I'm just not seeing it in any of my social circles or Discords, but I've legitimately not seen a WoW refugee in this game be criticized because they're coming over from WoW. I've seen people crap all over WoW, but I've only ever seen people welcome WoW refugees with open arms. Where is all of this hatred towards WoW players moving to FF14 happening?
I don't think anyone been saying it's only FF14 players wanting him gone but there is more than a few.
There is a handful of documented cases. Biggest one the comes to mind is ScottZone.
But I personally seen people bitching at wow players for suggesting transmog into FF14 or having better pvp, more raid tiers etc -- you know stuff that would make the game better with responses "go back to wow we don't want you here" (paraphrasing).
Also the news about Asmongold joining the game has hardly been with open arms, there been plently of people both here and other social media platforms who been quite toxic and the opposite.
I enjoy his discussions since I hold similar values in a different game, and seeing him get harassed freely made me sad.
But it was a great relief when I read about this. It makes me much more comfortable interacting with the community when it comes time to create a static or do more than just grind the MSQ
