After experiencing the process of trying to procure a land plot, I feel compelled to say that, though I love FFXIV, that process was the worst experience I’ve ever had in any MMO I’ve ever played. The feeling of stress, the pain of ceaseless clicking on placards, and the crushing disappointment of losing on several plots was my experience, and I know that others have had it much worse. I recently transferred servers to play with friends, which is what this game is about. I lost the house I loved, and only wanted to try to rebuild it somewhere else. The housing system is inequitable, cutthroat, and cruel. If people were taking advantage of the previous system, fix your broken system, don’t punish honest players.

1. Out-clicked live on three properties
2. Estate transferred out of four properties (one of them I’d been clicking on the placard over the course of 12 hours, 7.5 dedicatedly, and was mocked by the person who transferred their estate)

I understand the argument that we choose to click the placard. But we all have game content that we value, and most of that content evolves with the player and interacts with them. Dungeons and raids have reasonable timers, anc you’re constantly engaged by fight mechanics. Triple Triad and Verminion are also timed reasonably, and are interactive. You will never convince me that a random, invisible timer that can last up to 24 hours is in any way reasonable, and you don’t get to tell me that my desire for a house in the game is any less valid than another player’s desire for quality content in any other aspect of the game. If it’s part of the game it should be tested, evaluated, and of the best quality the company can muster, or it simply shouldn’t be in the game at all. -

We can turn the dial back to 2018 when they told us that adding apartment size options was under consideration, and look at 2019 when they said that making alts automatic tenants of any private house owned by a character on the same world and same account was something else they might do. Neither has happened, nor been mentioned since.
At this point, it's probably better not to expect any changes to housing next expansion beyond the addition of Ishgard and the usual new furnishings.

There might be RMT occurring in housing but it's not going to be getting done by the bot farms that have far more efficient and reliable ways of making gil to sell for real money. If they did see housing as a good source for RMT, there would be far more placard camping going on than what we see.
Now it would be true to say that the player using a standard subscription and has leveled the 8 characters allowed per world sufficiently to be able to purchase would have a much better chance of getting a house than the player who only has one or two character on that world with the limited click system. Even then, I doubt most players would do it because they usually want the house on a specific character they consider their main and not a character they wouldn't otherwise play. -

Plot is relinquished [placard does state for Relocation or Sale during their respective phases] > Invisible 10-hour-timer starts for Relocation (that's 42% of a real day to decide). Once Relocation timer is up no more Relocation and the plot goes up for sale > next 0-4 hours that plot can not be bought (that is minimum of 58% of a real day to login and see there could potentially be a plot up, given the relocation goes unphased) > 4-12 hours the invisible timer starts (like the current one) > invisible timer goes off or after 12 hours > the plot goes up for insta-purchase. The minimum amount of turn around time would be 14 hours from relinquish to purchase with max being 26 hours. Relocation still gets priority but timers favor a buyer. Lastly, the knowledge of a rough buy window with only an 8 hour spam window is priceless. What do you think?
