A request for your constructive suggestions on Bozja 5.45

There has been quite a lot of negativity in regard to current Bozja.
In an effort to turn this around into something positive, what would your constructive improvement ideas be?

It may work better if your improvement ideas follow the numbered format below. Of course some ideas may take a little longer than a single line to explain, it's just that concise answers provide clarity and are easily read :)

1)Bozja wish you could actually queue from outside for the 48m its really messy the current way
2)Just bump up slightly the mettle gains from fates to not make the grind a slog, the whole purpose of bozja is to farm clusters and consumables for raids why put a high commitment on fates?

Honestly, Bozja is already fantastic content. The raids are arguably the best to ever grace FFXIV.

The problem is the reward structure. There simply needs to be more. Make memory drops 100% for the relevant content - increase the amount needed if required, but remove the RNG. Add more fluff rewards, particularly from content people are averse to participating in. Remove mettle losses in raid content, or remove losses entirely - punitive systems never contribute to fun.

Personally, I enjoy the content. I have the time to enjoy the content. But bringing in friends to enjoy the content with me has been a hurdle because of the above.

What if I told you that no one involved in making the game looks here for suggestions or feedback?

(Nor should they—posts on the forums are not a representative sample of anything beyond posters on the forums.)

I actually like a lot of things about Bozja, but think there are just some flaws that need to be addressed. Also, great idea for a thread! I think it's important we give feedback as to what we're hoping for.
1) I did a whole post wondering why we're doing Crystal Tower for the "Change of Arms" quest when we already do Crystal Tower every day with alliance roulette. I think one of the biggest problems is the low drop rate of memories, upgrade items, etc in Bozja. We need to make castrum appeal to people who have already done it. So, for example you could make each boss in castrum drop a loathsome memory, up the loathsome memory drop rate from CE's and do away with the Crystal Tower part (or make it a low chance). I'm not saying I don't content outside of bozja to not drop things you need for the relic; I'm happy with doing the HW/Stormblood raids for the next step b/c those aren't done as much. We need to keep old content relevant for new players joining FFXIV. But wow, Castrum has become a bottleneck for new players; you have to make it appeal to players that have already done it.

2) When you reach max rank in a Bozja zone [for example the current zone, max rank is 15], increase the coins you get from CE's and skirmishes--even if it's just one.

3) The upgrade items (e.g. Bozjan Secrets (Headgear), etc.) are a bit extreme at 999 and 500. Drop them just a little. 800 and 400 would be more reasonable. They should be hard to get/a grind but not demoralizing (though if at max rank, coins from CE and skirmishes were increased maybe 999 and 500 wouldn't be the worst).

Just wanted to point out that it would take both a substantial decrease in coin cost and coin gain to make the Augments worth grinding. The reduction you suggested would still sum up to a 100+ hour grind for a single set. Which, wasn't a huge issue before, as the only purpose was the +haste. But now they've made it a requirement to get the dyable Law set, so it's discouragingly painful to say the least- and directly makes multiple runs of Savage Delub less worth doing.

Yeah, I have no clue really what a good number would be, but also...exactly! Even as you say if they lowered the numbers just a little bit it's an INSANE amount of grinding time. I really hope this gets addressed.

The 490 upgrade path should have been nerfed when they introduced the 510 upgrade path and are using the augmented 490 gear as a requirement. The fact that it hasn’t been yet is ridiculous.

1. Just let me queue for castrum or take off the requirement to complete it to continue on with my relic. Came back after not enjoying WoW again just to be walled off from my relic since no one really wants to do castrum anymore.

And... that's really it from me. I don't mind the grind, leveling, mettle, etc,. but the castrum wall is just too much. It's not fun to wait an hour for it to pop and then only 20ish people want to go do it, all newbies and we really only get 1 or 2 shots at completing it.

Memories need to drop 100% on fates & CE's in Bozja to keep Bozja relevant

1a. Adjust the stats/mechanics of Castrum so that fewer, if not one person can clear it reasonably well.
1b. As others have stated, make castrum a queueable instance outside of Bozja, and add a Lost Finds Cache in the beginning like DR to compensate.
2. Make Bozjan Coins from the Front useable for the new and future Bozjan gear. Trade in XXX amount of Bozjan Coins for say 5 Silver Coins, so it's not preferable but not irrelevant either. That or just straight reward Silver Coins and/or Gold Coins from Castrum.

Other than that, I believe the system is well made. Maybe add some scaling for FATEs or something. Right now the biggest hurdle is nobody can get past Castrum because nobody with the know how wants to do it, thus runs fall flat, thus less people want to do it, until it becomes Eureka 2.0.

As someone who loved Eureka and loves Bozja and CLL annnd DR ... the problem with Bozja is CLL.

1- Give vets an incentive to farm CLL. On release, it gave you ... nothing. It doesn't give mettle or EXP, just coins and frags/ tags and very veeeery rarely a gear upgrade ... that gives your gear haste. When Bozja was fresh it didn't take long for CLL to die cause even people who liked doing it saw no reason to do it again cause the rewards are poo and the amount of coins you need to buy upgrades was way too high for the payoff.

2- Allow people to Que for it like DR. As it stands CLL is full of a flood of BADS who had to be forced kicking and screaming to progress in the new content who would prefer to do brain-dead old fates instead of engaging in Bozja. Why is this important? Because these bads fill up the recently active CLL runs, making it a coin flip on it you're going to clear or even get past the first boss (Cause shockingly people who wanted the brain-dead path don't want to look at months old guilds or learn what logos do or even their job's basic rotation and even though CLL isn't savage tier it still has dps checks and things that will wipe the whole party if some people don't know what to do). Giving these people more opportunities to learn CLL will only speed up their progress from being carried to maybe being helpful enough to not screw the run AND allowing vets to not have to wait in Bozja for an hour at a chance to get the hopefully improved rewards to in CLL would help get them to run it again.

3- Make the Bozja gear have actual, meaningful stats and not just haste. Like ... come ON. Haste is not going to make you feel strong.

Hmmm. What if I told you that's not entirely true?

I will always remember when they listened to requests/feedback about buying EX trial's mounts with weapon totems back in HW. If they didn't care about feedback here, we probably would still be seeing Greed-only alliance raid loot. Maybe we wouldn't have seen the changes from Anemos to Pyros/Hydatos. Arguably there's been some QoL improvement from Eureka to Bozja... So I'd hazard that the people in charge of the NA forums pass some things along.

Anyway, looking at these suggestions, it's true; improving the drop rates on memories/coins etc. would go a long way to increasing activity. Unless their goal was to make Bozja stuff dead-on-arrival just so old zones and alliance raids seem like they're still active and relevant.

Make castrum worth running. Massively up the rate of coins, lessen the mettle loss compared to open world bozja, up the droprate of augment boxes, add the seething weapons to castrum boss drop tables, use the automatic group sorting that delubrum has so people dont have to dance around going "top? bottom?"

I really wish I didn’t have to worry about stockpiling essences. If I clear DR or Castrum, I should ideally walk away with more than what I use. Otherwise I’m incentivized to not use anything at all, which just has a horrible ripple effect on the parties as a whole.

1. Have all forms of memories from the first stage be guaranteed drops from Skirmishes and CE's in order to compete with the non-Bozjan methods.
2. Have all forms of memories from the second stage be guaranteed drops of CE's to compete with non-Bozjan methods.
3. Have Castrum drop the first 7 types of memories (the three for the first stage, bitter memories and the ones from alliance raids) and reward you with mettle for completing it.
4. Reduce the timer of Castrum pops. 20 minutes after a new instance has started, and then 10 minutes after each other Castrum instance ends. The instance doesn't commence unless there's 16 players signed up to it, and the difficulty is scaled according to the number of players so that it is more easily completed with just 16 players.
5. Add a reserves system for the solo engagements. 3-5 players can queue, and if anyone wipes within 3 minutes of the engagement, the next person queues in and the timer resets.

1) Never do anything like Castrum again
2) Never tie the relic to a zone like Bozja again
3) Never tie meaningful lore to a zone like Bozja again
4) Never have death set back your progress significantly again
5) In fact, never make anything like Bozja again

Certain essences drop only in Castrum. I'm hoping they increase the amount of those in the hotpatch along with other meaningful incentives. You can buy them on the MB but they're certainly not cheap and I would like to get more in zone.

Durubrum is an awful lot of fun and using essences and other actions are a really interesting part of the experience. I ran DB on Spriggan yesterday morning and the DPS was incredible. Later that day on another run on Crystal the DPS was terrible and it's cause people were not taking advantage of the buffs these actions provide.

I had a run the other day where I was the only tank, and my friend who queued with me was the only healer... in the entire instance.
Despite several deaths and probably several depleted Lost Arises, we still cleared it in no time at all, skipping some phases of some of the bosses.

Intersting enough I blew an essence when we loaded in during one run and found there was no tank in the group. We all had to leave.

Damn. There's no essence to increase enmity generation then I take it. I've only really used the tank ones though I know there's essences that essentially give DPS/healers the same HP and defence as a tank, but that obviously doesn't mean you can tank without the mitigation skills for tank busters and some way of holding aggro.

I use Essence of the Templar, Lost Raise and Lost Protect. I always heal the raid. In the weak dps raid i had to ask if anyone had Bravery cause they weren't using it. Some then did and continued to.

1) Apply scaling to CLL, such that it can be completed with less people. The intent would not be to make it easier, just achievable at different size groups with the assumption only some people know what they're doing (you could do less if everyone was spot on already). Or alternatively make the rest of the instance slower, noticeably, while CLL is getting set and then return to normal after, if CLL wins make the rest of the instance much higher value (value in terms of reward vs time, just add value to people's time)- then people would do it just to make other things worth more (and not less lol). CLL won instance = good instance.

2) Make a way for Actions to be learn-able. I think a lot of people, myself included, are consumable adverse (I do not like using non-easily, painlessly, obtainable consumables to help myself in battle unless I HAVE to use it to win, I don't purposely lose of course lol). But if you gave a carrot at the end on use you'd see a lot more spell use, which would just increase the quality of everyone (by the fact they're using bigger spells). Heck add an achievement or something to it too (learning X spells). This could be done a large variety of ways, from FFIX to FFVII systems to one special slot you earn or something. Maybe like DnD or darksouls where you can rest at scattered locations to restock.

3) Consider adding a maximum mettle loss to certain content like CLL ("your level bracket is your max loss" yeah I don't mean that lol). And the maximum loss is less than the maximum potential gain. So if you died and died but then won, you made a net gain, if you died and died and died and lost.. it was limited damage for the attempt. Also if there was a skill learn system, or something like that (point 2), then people would have lost less as they may have made progress to learning a skill at least (or have already learned it and didn't lose that). Yes I'm aware you can buy them from the market, no I don't feel that makes it fun to use- like I said I just don't like using consumables. In WoW there were some easy to make potions in the wild, I made and used those, there were bottomless potions.. I loved those, then there were hard to make consumable potions.. I didn't touch those except maybe to sell because I hated the gameplay feel of it. Loss, imo, isn't that fun of a concept. I get some mid to hardcore raiders are totally fine with it cause they use the potions and food, but I'm just sharing perspective of someone who at this point in their life just likes to take it smooth and not make every step hurt (unless I'm playing a game for THAT purpose, like a Souls-like game, but even then they've some nice mechanics to smooth things out, herbs are pretty cheap, potions restock themselves- I don't play FFXIV for that experience, smooth doesn't mean it has to be brain dead easy but as in each step I make shouldn't feel wasteful). Naturally might say the content isn't directed at that sort of player but I don't think CLL is terribly hard, especially if more people used their skills, and I strongly believe that Relic content design should be focused to those casual players (as the mid-hardcore already have savage and ultimate weapons, they don't, imo, need another weapon when casual could get great gain from such a concept). Alternative thought to that- Mixing 2) and 3) may consider any actions lost in a CLL are refunded at the end, that could have it's own problems of course (and personally still want to lean towards learning, because I just mentally as a person, do not like using consumables that are not aggressively easy to restock- I even have a silly amount of gil, I still don't want to bother buying them like that, maybe if it was from an NPC and cheap or something, but just sharing a personal preferred play style and I've seen others voice this opinion and from my experience watching people play in general I think it's pretty common in the groups I play with, although, some of that is probably because some people don't even use their normal abilities lol..... but hey if you added a learn progression system and an achievement even behind it I think people would go out of their way to use them).

Doesn't seem like a particularly hard content but I think some of the rough edges are a big turn off to certain audiences (stop making consumable spells, at least let me learn them or put one into a special slot to keep ! lol), compounded by that there isn't too much value in running CLL but a decent amount of loss (time, mettle, actions), given that Relic is behind all of this I think it would be wise to try and avoid making things too easy (gameplay wise) but still shave off some sharp edges.

1) Remove mettle loss completely - I have seen (and been in) games where death punishes your level/rating. Result = players simply stopped doing the content.
2) Improve the drop rate of the latest 5.45 memories inside Bozja
3) Have the latest 5.45 memories drop from zone fates similar to the previous ones. The zones would naturally be a higher level and would bring back some life into these player deserts.
4) Remove rng. This is not a free to play Korean grinder, but this latest content feels like it is. This game should be a run content x number of times = get reward (i.e. mount).
5) The last one is a bit open and relates to Bozja as a whole. = There is something wrong with the instance, it doesn't feel in any way encouraging to players. Maybe it's the absence of a boss or two that spawns where everyone gets together and has a go, along with the wonderful chat that large groups have.

Remove Mettle loss and add it to the Duty Finder. This really is not that hard of a problem to solve. They just have some FF11 devs working on this content who do not remotely understand the playerbase of FF14.

You can use essences and other lost actions to try and act like a tank, but there's no real replacement for tank busters. They still one shot, or nearly one shot a non tank. After a certain point the pain and mettle loss isn't worth it.

Technically tanking as dps should be possible. You have Lost Incense, instant with a short cd for enmity. Then you add Deep Platebearer, Protect and Stoneskin. Keep in mind Incense is also reducing damage by 20% for 20 sec and can be maintained with full uptime. You can add to this further with Lost Font of Power which reduces damage by a hefty 50% (unless any tankbusters are magical?). 2 dps could tank swap between each other to always have Lost Font available since it's a 2 min cd.

Sadly, that's just too much effort and coordination for many dps to even consider, so most groups simply leave.

Incense should probably be an aura or last at least a minute or two per cast and Stoneskin instant cast.

Castrum rewards should be 50k mettle,Increased drop rate of Augments(doesn't have to be a huge increase just something like older primal mounts),Tome/Exp reward at the end just like any CE/Fate

There needs to be mettle rewards from clearing both Castrum and Delubrum Reginae.

The queue for the latter also really needs to try to enforce a standard role set-up, because while lost actions can cover for missing roles, the average player in Delubrum can't be bothered to even bring/use an essence for free DPS/survivability and I regularly see people just opting to leave the instant they see that their party is devoid of tanks and/or healers. The tanking actions also do not provide nearly as much mitigation as standard tanks have access to, with the persistent 20% from Incense being the only thing that's practical to use and not sufficient to avoid getting floored by a tankbuster + immediate auto-attack follow-up.

1) Allow mettle to be gained from mobs, Skirmishes, CEs, etc. This means your only option to rank up isn't another endless FATE grind. You can do a little bit of everything and still progress or just focus on one type and still progress. This gives the zone wider appeal because players can choose how they interact with it.
2) Have daily missions for mettle.
3) Have options in the challenge log that provide mettle.
4) Make the story a solo questline. Make any group instances have either a group option for those who want it or a Trust option. People wouldn't be nearly as pissed about the relic if they did this. And there wouldn't be "bads" as someone mentioned previously in CLL because they wouldn't be forced into there. Plus the relic questline is usually pretty good and integrating it meaningfully into a zone is kind of neat.
5) Make relic drops equal both inside and outside. That way they also maintain the idea that players want in having options on where they get their relic items. But there's no reason inside should be less than outside.
6) Keep things like CLL and DR as optional content. Then they can be designed with additional challenge and remain that way for those who enjoy that sort of thing.
7) Get rid of mettle loss. Seriously, this isn't 1999. Punishing players for playing your content is not the way to get people to play your content.

This is my biggest personal problem from all the way back in Eureka. Nothing sucks more than popping an essence and then realize that the instance is dying and it also makes it very annoying changing between jobs.

Losing mettle isn't a punishment for playing, it's a punishment for dying. Don't die.
If you're increasing the amount of mettle you gain and the actions that award it, which I completely agree with, then there's no reason to change how mettle is lost. (although I would maybe reduce the penalty for returning to the start in Delubrum when out of combat)
It's very easy to regain any lost mettle as it is, and it serves as an incentive for those who have cleared Bozja to return to it (along with acquiring more lost actions), after all they lose mettle by dying in Delubrum Reginae.

1) Make Castrum the best way to earn anything after rank 10. Including mettle, clusters, relic tokens and xp.
2) Add non-tradeable cosmetic items that can be bought with a lot of gold coins. If it's something you can keep grinding and are guaranteed to get, people will keep doing the content. Unreal is proof of this.
3) Don't kill any instances. If it isn't full then you can add more people to it.

The number of times I've died due to tanks zoning out and not taunting and/or not using tank stance in CEs or Delubrum has probably cost me a couple hundred thousand mettle at this point.

The mechanic really is kind of arbitrary in the grand scheme of things and there are better ways to encourage people to return to content then forced regrinding (And you bet they'll require you to be at 700K when 5.5 drops for one reason or another).

If they remove the penalty for dying, then they'll have to reduce how much mettle you gain from the content.
It'll just turn it into another long linear grind along with the memories, longer than it currently takes.
Currently it's a dynamic process that is largely under your control, and you can gain more control by using essences that increase your survivability, or lost actions to heal/mitigate/revive.

This is my main issue as well. I didn't really have any interest in doing Bozja, or at least not right away, but now I have to in order to continue the relic all of a sudden. So I spent a few days getting to rank 10 to do Castrum and continue on my way, except barely 20 people went in, people argued, gave wrong information, and we floundered for 15 minutes until people just started dropping out. If it can't even fill up all the way like the CEs, how are we supposed to do it?

Either remove Castrum from the relic requirement, change it to be a duty finder duty, or give people a reason to do it more than once. At least on NA servers, people won't ever do something to be nice and will only do it for loot or rewards.

I resubbed to continue the relic weapons, and now I'm completely stuck until something changes. That's not good design.

1. Make critical engagements have a 100% drop on memories you need to upgrade relics on the recollection step. This will encourage people to do skirmishes to pop them and give a competitive method for farming fates outside bozja.

2. Castrum drops increased bronze coins. reward some mettle upon completion. increase chance for upgrade item for first set of bozja gear to drop. Add some other type of reward? It just doesn't feel like there is a reason to go back and do it after you complete it.

3. Make it so that after you collect x number of a lost action you unlock it permanently. You are already limited on how much you can carry with you anyway. Give players a reason to farm and a permanent reward for it so that people wont be afraid to have fun with the new system!

Honestly, I'm fine with losing mettle; I agree with you there.

From a system design perspective, though, I'm less-fine with a system that can penalize but not award, because it disincentivizes people from engaging with said system. This is a problem with Castrum Lacus Litore and Delubrum Reginae; I know a lot of people who are reluctant to run them because they can lose mettle in them but not gain them.

And yes, you can go earn back mettle in the Southern Front skirmishes and CEs; it's not like it's an insurmountable penalty. But it does demonstrably decrease involvement in that content, which is content that requires buy-in and participation to make it viable for those who do want (or need, for story progression) to engage with it.

This is why CLL and DR should either do away with mettle loss, or award some rank-appropriate mettle for defeating the various bosses within. I'd prefer the latter (since it does still mean you can leave at a loss if you are incautious with mechanics), and I think the risk of 'I might lose mettle' is actually a neat factor in engaging with those; it makes them feel more like a battle with actual risk.

But even doing away with mettle loss in there would increase player engagement with that content, which I think is crucial.
