Only if it's optional. Most of my gardening is intercross and I don't want to be tied into an "all or nothing" UI.
Not really needed for planting. As mentioned, a lot of gardening is intercross and then you need to plant them one at a time anyway.
Now, if we could get a "Tend all plants at once" option, that would be really nice. I can't think of any time when you don't want to tend them all.
Seems limited, first means your plants need to all be G3S or G3T when you might want a mix. Sencond is too small to hit the soil box, already do a few misclicks with small things.
And with the first how do you do the first one of an intercross series? The one you normally plant and throw away because it has nothing to cross with.
Edit: likewise, if you have a 1 day plant like AzLav and then a longer one like Jute, how do you refresh the soil on the first?
First will never work, and current method is better than second.
They never said it would have to be the same exact seeds for every area. The concepts look similar to selection boxes, simply meant to allow you to put all the seed types you want into the appropriate squares and have them all planted at the same time.
Which would actually be far less annoyance than having to go one by one as we do currently. So I'm all for it, though making it an optional toggle somewhere wouldn't hurt either for those who like to do the slow method.
Could see the concept working so that partial planting is doable as well, for when you need to leave one type of finished plant in but replace the cardinals with new ones for intercrossing.
I'm still trying to figure out the intended benefits of your suggestion beyond having the option to plant the same seed/soil in every bed simultaneously. Maybe instead of trying to use a mockup of what the UI would look like, list step by step how you intend it to function.
Right now, function is:
Select bed
Select action (Plant/Harvest/Tend/Fertilize/Remove depending on current state of the bed)
If Plant, select seed and soil to use from inventory
If Fertilize, select pomace from inventory
Game then completes the requested action in that bed. If the player has more gardening to do, they select a new bed.
What would the steps be with your proposed UI?
As I said above, and I still hold it, the soil hit box is way too small. No way I could ever drag/drop soil there.
How do you remove a sparking plant? Is that done from the plant? If so, you have 2 differing methods for planting and harvesting. Likewise how is fertiliser applied in this screen?
It also seems to assume you will always click your plot from position 6 (Facing the scarecrows face) If your plot is rotated 90 degrees and you come in at point 4 or point 2 instead of point 6 does the orientation change so that the plants are lines up with the layout, or do you need to spend time making sure you are about to rip up the correct plant since the plants wont line up with the diagram then.
Edit: I guess the big one... how does it handle with a gamepad? Is it faster and easier to plant when you don't have a mouse to move randomly?
No, the OP is asking for more than just a window UI that duplicates the layout of a garden patch. He's specifically asking for a way to plant seeds simultaneously or to select a specific soil type for multiple beds while using different seeds. Try reading what he has posted instead of just looking at the mock up he has created.
If you're having issues targeting, try standing in the middle of the garden patch with the camera looking down instead of standing outside of it looking across the patch horizontally.
We genuinely do not need more UI elements cluttering up our screens, especially ones that only duplicate what we're already able to do through normal interaction with the game world. It would be better to be removing some of these layers of menu blocking our view of the game world, not increasing them.
I would be happy if I didn't have to right click into a menu to water my plants. Stardew Valley already had this figured out.
I wouldn’t mind a complete overhaul. I stopped doing it because it’s a bit boring after a while and like anything in the game, the market isn’t consistent.
I would love a UI update, even if it's just for replacing crops when grown or to speed up tending all the crops at once.
Right now if you have a fully grown (crossbred) garden and want to plant new seeds you have to carefully click four of one seed type and harvest them individually, then click them all again, select a soil, select the new seed. Then repeat the same click fest with the other four plants.
I can't imagine any interface that could be slower or worse than the current system. Anything would be an improvement. I'm constantly clicking the wrong thing (usually my minion which I have to then put away each time) and/or having to make sure select right seed (because I assume everyone else probably has both seeds in their inventory at the same time too).
And then the constant clicking for fertilising/tending... I gave up fertilising years ago simply because of all the clicking and only do the tending once a day now.
I would love to have an all in one UI, SO MANY clicks to get stuff done currently. Nice mock up :)
As for crossbreeding I think simply having the order you place the soil and plants matter, and can even have a little number next to them as you go to show you (so you could 'plant' everything in one confirmation button, but it would still keep the crossbreeding system). May also allow players to save templates if SE felt like it (locally saved).
So you can crossbreeding, mix and match soils, and plant, ALL in one menu. That would literally save me hundreds of clicks a month while just being prettier to look at and improving accuracy just in case I get sloppy and double added a soil because I forgot my silly pattern (or am doing something more complex than a standard alternation).
Extra points if you can drag the icons from your inventory into the UI and apply them like 'painting' (so you could put down many plants or soils in one inventory click).
I don't mind if it's optional, I don't see the need to force others to use it lol.. why right?, but I would personally MUCH rather prefer a pretty all in one substantially less clicky interface over really simple menus that are far more clicky.
This coming from someone who touches gardens every single day. I greatly think the UI could be improved. I understand there is some nostalgia of the old FF menus, but for myself functionality and initial presentation would out beat that any day of the week. Which is why I also tend to get quite excited when SE makes UI elements that are custom, like for Relic quests or other activities. My heart is not set on diving through 400 menus just because they're really simply. I'd rather it be either super easy (may read lazy friendly instead of easy here, lol) and functional, and or with whenever possible extra immersion elements. Immersion elements meaning like when you open your journal it might be a journal sort of graphic (looks like a book, etc).
Edit: Please use this menu design for watering and fertilization too! Like above, extra points if I can paint these actions as well (drag over icons to complete the action, so you could water your whole plot in one mouse movement).
I really like any UI suggestion that allows me to avoid having to click into a menu, then REclick into a menu and down over and over again to do the same thing. Much like the UI change to collectible turn-ins -- something that lets me do something in ONE screen/window/level of interaction would be fantastic.
If it's a matter of being able to add soil/seeds across a grid i can see all at once? Yes. that would be fantastic.
I could open the window once for the first seed, if that's needed to start a cross bed. Then open again for the rest. Then a 3rd time to remove and replant.
That's 3-4 window interactions vs 8, with a lot of up clicking.
