Please change Road to 70. Forcing new characters 90 days bonus exp is a punishment.

First = how to take road to 70 off of my new character in preferred server?


Second = road to 70 should be changed so it isn't forced onto users.

The road to 70 forces bonus experience onto new characters created on preferred servers. And as far as I understand, it's double exp. And the minimum restriction to be stuck with double exp is 90 days. For anybody who isn't a speedrunner, this is in no way shape or form a reward. It's a punishment. Because to put it simple - it is extremely game breaking, and ruins the game. No amount of level synching mitigates how bad it is. Any sort of workarounds users have to do in order to prevent themselves from getting too much exp is a burden on the user no matter what.

The silver chocobo feathers and the 15 day incentive for level 30 is nice.

But too much experience points during progression towards max is already a problem in standard servers. You should not be getting that much exp. The game becomes too easy. And users leave the game not wanting to play anymore. This is not how RPG progression is supposed to be designed. When it comes to standard servers in this game, exp is already waaaay too much as it is to really enjoy a balanced playthrough of the main content. Even to the point you will end up getting leveled down in dungeons you're supposed to be doing as part of your progression. Despite doing pretty much nothing additional from normal gameplay. And this is on a standard server.

And now preferred servers are forcing additional exp onto new characters. With no option to prevent this for users who do not want the pointless additional exp. Yes the bonus exp is a benefit for power levelers and speedrunners. Typically, these are users who make an alternate character that they just want to level up high because they already played through the actual game normally. But for new users who have never played the game or even anybody else who simply wants to play a main character through the game normally, they cannot do so on a preferred server. Unreasonable amount of exp you get on a standard server is already a major problem inherent in this game. This bonus exp just makes that problem much much worse.

Rather than being forced for all new characters on a preferred server, it should be a consumable item that the user receives when creating a new character on a preferred server. To be used as a choice to the user if they want the road to 70 bonus exp reward or not. If they intend to speedrun the game, then that choice to consume the item for that bonus exp is available for them. If they don't want to speedrun, and just want to play a normal game, then they are not forced into it and stuck with it for 90 days. Because they simply don't have to consume the item. Or they will have it in case they might decide they want to use it sometime later.

This is important because many users might want to start playing the game on a server their friend is on. But what if their friend just happens to be on a preferred server? I myself was supposed to start my main character on my friend's server prior to the latest patch. This was fine because it was a normal standard server. But I wanted to hold it off to start out in the new patch. Because I wasn't aware of the possibility it could change status after a patch. Suddenly, the new patch turned it into a preferred server. Now if I want to start a character on there, I'm forced into that road to 70 bonus exp. And it will be stuck on every class/job I do that is below level 70 for 90 days straight. With currently no ability I know of to get rid of it so that I can simply play the game legitimately on my the same server as my friend.

Furthermore, the most important thing to consider is the entire point of being a preferred server to increase user population. So new users should have incentive to join a preferred server when starting to play the game for the first time and choosing a server. Well when I started the game for the first time not knowing what server to play, I made sure to NOT pick the preferred server in order to avoid the bonus exp. If trying to grow server population, implementing something into that server that will deter new users from choosing it defeats the entire purpose. For new users who are not speed-runners due to wanting to play the game for the first time normally, forcing bonus exp to deter them from choosing a preferred server is a contradiction to the purpose of trying to get users to join a preferred server. Yet only incentivizes users to join servers that are already overpopulated in order avoid the exp bonus. As was the case with my choice on the first character I made on the trial.

You realize that most instanced content level syncs you? And while the extra exp is nice for most other players, I assume the game still level locks you behind story a bit--even with the new story progression changes. You can still do the game at your own pace. You are still free to wear whatever gear you like (which directly effects your level of play). The faster leveling will honestly only affect open world content and again, depending on your item level, probably not enough for you to even notice. The real bread and butter of this game is Item level, not so much Character level. Killing on the world map is made to be the easiest content. It's the instanced content that is designed to be harder. So I'm not sure why the prospect of leveling slightly faster than normal would matter beyond open world duties (and again, gear is more the factor there) when you can still do the content at your own pace.

Duty Finder has a minimum ilevel setting if you want to do the content at the original setting. As for the world map--just wear gear appropriate for the area. You'll likely not even notice the difference. Just saying

Claiming that additional exp has zero impact is simply false. As it does have an affect. And extremely noticeable affect even on standard servers.

Level sync is not a valid solution for two main reasons. If you were on level, there would be no need to sync. The very fact you're level syncing implies you're leveling past the content. The second reason is that it is also currently a poor design. It should never sync past the level of the base level requirement. But it indeed goes multiple levels past. Thereby, not even legitimately syncing. Not as bad as Guild Wars 2 level down system which is horrendous. But bad enough.

Bonus exp does indeed make progression way more screwy than it already is at default. Which is already very noticeably screwy due to exorbitant amount of exp being given at default. You can name every workaround under the sun. If there was no problem, then there would never need to be some workaround to go out of your way to make yourself weaker. That's simply senseless. The idea is wanting to make yourself more powerful. But that whole concept of RPG gameplay is out the window in a game that makes you way too powerful.

For any well designed RPG/MMORPG, the user has to be concerned about gear as well as ways to gain more exp to be able to access next level quests. This does not exist in this game because you end up with so much exp that you never ever have to worry about leveling up to access your next quest. When your next quests can even often end up multiple levels below where you already are because of the design of giving way too much exp. Nothing regarding any sort of gear can change this fact. Character level is extremely important and no less important than item level.

It is possible to avoid outleveling content even with the Road to 70 buff, namely by spreading earned XP over several classes/jobs.
Of course, new players won't know to do this until they already have way too many levels compared to where in the story they are and start asking around about this.

Yes it won't be something immediately understood by new users. But even still it is a workaround. Much better to offer this buff as an option of a way to disable it.

Man, I wish we had this buff when I started the game.
I literally don't understand how someone can complain about extra experience. Getting higher level than the quest doesn't make you "speedrun" the game since you will be forced to go through all of the quests anyway. Unless you skip all the cutscenes (the most heinous of crimes) you can't "speedrun" it.

First of all, you can spread exp between classes. Once you reach a certain point (somewhere around lvl 15 quests) the game literally tells you that you can take up other classes and how to do it. All you need to do is read the guides the game kindly provides for you.
Second - do you have any idea how frustrating it is to be stuck 1-2 levels below your next story quest? How frustrating it is to spend a day trying to level yourself just to do a couple of quests and then get stuck behind leveling again.

Honestly, be grateful this buff exists because you know what is worse than having too much exp? Having too little. And having to literally ditch the main quest because you're too low level. And in many cases it can be quite immersion breaking. I love being in a middle of some emergency situation in the main story just for the game to make me ditch the NPCs and go kill some mushrooms in a nearby FATE.
You have no idea how good you have it.

I would prefer having too little exp over too much exp gained any time of the day, MMO's are grindstones by default and by having a slow leveling experience, being max level actually means something. In our current situation, by the time you reach shadowbringers content, you can easily have 1 max level job for every role (tank,healer,ranged dps, melee dps and a caster) when you consider the additional EXP boosts from free companies and food.

Unpleasant flashbacks: leveling 39-44 during ARR, before HW came out. It seemed like months to get to the last pre-50 ARR trial.

100% as false as can be. It's definitely not a good thing to need to go way beyond out of your way to level up in order to continue to the next quest. However, having to do a bit of catching up is indicative of a well designed game. Oh not high enough, OK there's a FATE nearby that I can jump in. Or something to do here and there. This is because in any standard game, the idea is to gain exp. Not to avoid it. This game by default, you never have to do a FATE or anything else to get the exp. Because you already get so absurdly much by default. So much in fact, you level up past the qualification levels of your main campaign quests. It's a really screwed up design when you already end up having to go out of your way to avoid getting too much exp in order to not level up too fast for the sake of some semblance of balance. Double exp makes the matter much worse due to breaking the game, ruining it in a much bigger way.

If this game was well balanced by default, it won't be too easy to go over the level of the quests you need to do next. Maybe do a side quest or FATE to catch up. And doing the quests at the same level the quest was designed for makes for a more balanced experience and enjoyability of the quests. Being too high level for necessary quests is not in any way enjoyable. This includes having to be level synched for reasons that are not what level synching was ever meant for. Considering it was meant for those who are already higher level to play lower level content with users who are on the level of that lower level content. Not to compensate for a flaw in the design that dishes out so much exp that you end up out leveling the content you're playing. Getting too much exp is a balance killer that totally kills the enjoyability of the game. It's already bad enough at default. All the far worse with road to 70 buff. When you just can't play the game do to being completely pointless due to never feeling like you're actually taking something on. The amount of exp given out to water down this game is already an enormous problem without the road to 70 making the problem double worse.

The only ones who like more exp are late gamers who are only interested in speed running and power leveling to get to late game content. They don't give a crap about the game itself which is namely the base ARR game that applies to everybody no matter what. And the most important content of the game. Which is the most relevant in regards to being an enjoyable experience. As in an actual game. The amount of exp you get all throughout progression is not an actual game. As in something with some semblance of challenge. Even for anybody not looking for something hard core. It's pretty much a joke right now how easy it is.

You should always have too little exp so that you're actually trying to level up. As in trying to gain exp to get to the next level. That does not exist in this game. And the double exp is just super annoying and makes it pretty much unplayable as an actual game that should be about trying to level up.

While I wouldn't say an MMO necessarily needs to be any sort of grindstone. This is an extremely valid point that you should have to go out of your way to an extent for exp. Definitely not going overboard, but you most definitely should always have too little exp all throughout the game. Therefore, there's some semblance of being an actual game to get to the next level. And 100% getting to high level actually means something when looking back on your journey that was worth it because it was enjoyable. Definitely not how it is now - which is just each and every level handed to you for free. Which makes it a total joke of a game. Getting so much exp that you're outpacing your quests in terms of level is evident of poor design. FF14 isn't alone in this problem. Too much exp is a common problem of quite a few MMORPGs.

Until devs do something about this problem, and balance the actual game better, at the very least this road to 70 thing is something that needs to be addressed. It's no doubt a great thing for those who want it. Such power levelers/speedrunners. For example, you already played through the game, and just want to get an alt to max. Nothing wrong at all with that or nothing wrong at all with users who aren't interested in the actual game, and just want to play late game. But being forced on users who just want to play the actual game on certain preferred servers for whatever other reason, or being forced onto new users unknowingly, is a huge problem. Hopefully, they at least address this so it can be disabled or something optional.

With level syncing it's still way too easy so I get where the OP is coming from.

I'm just going to put this out there: Road to 70 ONLY applies through the first 90 days. You want to know why? In no way does Road to 70 ruin this game. You're still going at your own pace through MSQ(not telling anybody new to RUSH IT like you apparently assume new people are prone to do) and I literally told my friend who I gave a sub to to take the story AT HIS PACE. That's literally all that needs to be said. It doesn't matter if you're going 50 days or 80 days without doing anything in regards to MSQ or Leveling, it's still going to help push them through MSQ faster. The only hang-up right now if you're pushing MSQ is around Stormblood Lv 67, and that's still pretty close without Road to 70. Even so, THIS IS NOT A PUNISHMENT.

Also, let's read into your assumption about speedrunning this game, shall we? That community is literally 0.0001% of the playerbase, and is extremely minute in size. As far as people trying to speedrun the game, they probably just don't care about the story and want to get to content. WoW Players have been like that before, even the Refugees; but that's just stating some things I've seen with a fraction of that community in particular. A supermajority of people however will watch the story even with the buff on because they want to understand what's going on in said cutscene and the like, and how it leads into other things. If you're so afraid of a BUFF that helps new characters, then you do you Boo-Boo. I'm just stating the facts here, and speedrunning has not been a prevalent thing in XIV at all with new players just joining the game for the very first time.

I am lvl 76 and get synced in every instance I join, including main story. I don't see a problem at all.

I'm in stormblood and will be 80 by the time I get to shadowbringers. I don't really get xp from quests, its all from roulette daily . I wouldn't say its too easy at all, the only thing thats faster is random open world mobs which are very few and far between sticking to the MSQ.

I would rather this than having to grind boring side quests, I never had a bonus xp either I just did daily roulette a lot through ARR and heavensward so it can happen either way. Does it really bother you that you have access to more abilities to get out of the boring 123 button rotation faster? I have quit this game multiple times due to extreme boredom in rotation until 60+..

OP hasn't wrapped his head around levels not mattering in this game until your MSQ is caught up.

The buff exists to accelerate new players, because a level below 70 should be beneath your notice.

I still don't really understand this gripe. So I am going to start a new character and see how this plays out. Because I only have one alt and I made it back in Heavenward and it was the same horrible crawl to get past the lvl 50 content, into the Expac. Still got stuck behind dungeon level requirements. Still struggled through story instance battles (back before the game gave you obligatory healing during those). So I'm not seeing where being a higher level and still being hobbled to story areas with vendor gear suddenly becomes game-breaking.

You realize that no new players can play the game 'as it was originally intended' because it has been changed with every Expac? In the days of HW, only certain areas carried certain level gear and only for the classes/jobs that city would unlock--now the major cities carry all the available gear up to level 50 without you having to go to the area appropriate to that level. Back then, to advance your job you had to level a sometimes completely unrelated class to lvl 15 to get your job stone. And you could only use certain skills if you leveled the class that had that skill to the appropriate level. You want Swiftcast? You better level that THM, cause that's the only class that had it. Not to mention certain skills being locked behind job quests.

ARR is an almost completely different animal now. But it can still kill you. The fact that you can level faster just makes it so you can survive being smacked around a little better (and honestly only just). But to each their own. I'm going to start a new character and see how much the extra leveling negatively affects my experience.

On a side note, have you tried doing a new Game+? I'm curious as to how that plays out.

As an unrepentant (read enthusiastic) altoholic the Road to 70 is a godsend. Not having to worry about that inexplicable xp gaps before and after level 47 is fantastic. Leveling past the point where those stupid frogs in Mor Dhona just ignore you is worth it. Similarly the mob density of the Sea of Clouds is no longer a bother. And before somebody says "b-but mob kill xp" the paltry xp you got at level really was not worth the aggravation. Being able to unlock DNC and GNB before setting foot in HW is brilliant.

I wish there was a way to shut off exp gain entirely either an object I had to buy in the store or something in game. When I hit 50 I still had a huge amount of stuff left to do (beast tribes, harder modes of things, side quests). After a short time I gave up and started Heavensward MSQ because I was outleveling so much. Well now I am finished with Heavensward MSQ and my character is even more above level for Heavensward. Once again I don't dare do ANYTHING but move on to the next xpac. I haven't even unlocked everything in Heavensward yet. It is frustrating the heck out of my completionist way of playing.

I am the sort of player for whom getting to max level usually destroys a game for me. So I am not looking forward to it. I really wish I could periodically stop my experience gain and just sit at a level for awhile until I finished everything I wanted to do on level.

I get it this is not how most people play games. I am not talking about changing a thing for others. Just give us an option to choose to shut off/turn on exp at will. Even if it costs gil or even real money in the store.

The thing is though, level stops you from doing none of the things you listed, want to finish unlocking everything before entering HW? You can, your level means nothing, if you don't want to blow stuff up or be unkilable you could just go get a low level weapon and gear and control your power that way, being level 80 and doing the ARR beast tribes is no different than being level 50 and doing them, all you are is stronger, which you can easily throw away if you're so inclined.

But there's a even easier way to fix your issue, just use another class, you get two that start at 50 for ARR stuff, two that start at 60 for HW stuff and many others, if you're new and want to always be at level you can do that, but like I said, pretty much all your power gained is in your weapons and gear, want to do stuff like a level 50, just put on 40ish gear and away you go.

You simply do not understand. I shouldn't have to start over on another class. I do not want to play another class. I shouldn't have to deliberately downgrade my gear. Why can't I just turn off my exp at say 60 and stay there until I am ready to move on? It does not affect anyone else's game only mine. Why so resistant to the idea?

There are some real disadvantages to being 67 and seeing 60 content for the first time. For one people expect you to know a whole lot more than you actually do. Sometimes they can be pretty darn ugly about it too. For another others expect you to rush to endgame and refuse to see why you might not want to do so. I do not enjoy playing games at current endgame. It destroys games for me. I much prefer to meander through content at my own pace. So I ask again why so much resistance to the idea of my being able to shut off exp gain at will? It does not affect any one else gameplay only my own.

Edit: I have even gone so far as to look into getting a new account and simply buying the game one expansion at a time to put a hard cap on my leveling. Looking at the options though that really is not one either. Also I shouldn't have to get a new account and start over because as a newbie I was dumb enough to buy the more economical bundle of expansions.

You seriously just don't get it and I suspect that the real thing is that you fear any dev time being spent on it.

I want to shut off exp at major milestone. 50/60/70 etc. I do not want to see quest markers for content that moves me on to the next xpac. I do not want to have to google every quest to see if it MIGHT be one that goes to the next xpac. I want to sit at the 50/60/70 point until I finished everything for that point not have to sort out what goes with which.

People ARE rude. You tell them its your first time in a level 60 dungeon and they say you are 67 you are lying. Far easier to just BE 60

In any case I strongly suspect I could not make you see my point as you do not want to see it.

Well, this is a new one. Never heard anyone complain about getting too much exp before. Even so, if people want to lock their levels in place I don't see the harm in doing so. I just don't think it's worth the time and resources and I'd be willing to bet the devs feel the same. If they were to add something that allows it though I truly wouldn't care.

All I did was point out how what you want exists, just not exactly how you'd want it which is fine but that's why I'm less sympathetic, not because I don't want you to have what you want, but because you can you're just not happy it's done exactly to your liking.

I have a friend who likes to clear everything as he goes, he'd finish the MSQ and when he could see it wanted him to go to the next expansion he'd just veer off and start clearing stuff, if he ever picked up a quest for something he didn't want to do yet, he'd just drop it and move on. He was 70 (pre ShB) before he was mid way through with HW and it didn't bother him at all, he had no issue finishing everything ARR and HW and then strolling into SB at his own pace.

You'd be willing to consider rebuying the whole games and starting over but not simply doing the few things the game provides to give you the experience you want, if this was more desired like NG+ was, then I could understand, but it's a request few seem to share and the devs have little to no reason to grant, so I pointed out how you could make it work within the confines of the current system.

Again this means literally nothing to me, I'd not mind at all if they did add it, however it's very unlikely so I just gave an already achievable alternate.

Remember when we used to have to stop the MSQ to grind because we didn't have enough exp to meet a level gate?

While I don't think there's a major downside to over levelling, I kinda agree.
They know how much EXP it takes to reach each level, they know how many quests are in the MSQ, they know how much EXP they give. There's absolutely no reason why they couldn't set the 'Road to 70' at exactly the right amount of EXP to just meet the requirements of each new MSQ duty.

You then have the option to so side content for addition EXP to take you above the required level. Otherwise you will still hit level 70 as quickly as you possibly can, because you can't outrun the MSQ, your level and MSQ will always be neck and neck.

They could do this, and then increase the armoury bonus, so that you still get a significant levelling boost to your secondary jobs.

Not sure what you mean by not how most people play games. Most anybody (in their right mind) who enjoys RPGs will typically be interested in much of the additional content you mentioned, if not all of it in regards to your sort of completionism. Hence, the main going reason why most people don't play FF14 and some other games that have a similar problem.

But no genuine interest in the actual game itself. Yet late gamers are by far not most people. This goes especially for those who apparently troll the Reddit sub and here as well.

There should definitely never be a real money charge for turning off exp gain. Nor should you have to push an on/off button for it. The fact that you would even need to do so, implies a major problem with the design. Even without the double exp, the amount of exp given by this game at default is not even how any Final Fantasy game in history has ever functioned. While imposing double exp just completely breaks the game for anybody who isn’t trying to bypass content. Which is fine for users who want to do so.

Yes you can start some other classes/jobs. But definitely not an option for users who are only interested in one particular class. Or maybe a few certain ones, and outright don’t want to play any other class.

So yes, there should definitely be leeway in regards to leveling that implies doing side content as part of the leveling process. Basically, things available to do towards a goal of the next level. Getting way too much exp removes any semblance of this. It would make far more sense for to reward much less exp. Therefore, playing additional content implies exp incentive. Therefore, the incentive of exp gain from doing side content is there. Something that doesn't exist in the case of getting so overloaded with exp that you end up leveled too high for even that content.

What? So it actually used to function in a way that makes actual logical sense? I'm not completely sure what you mean, but indeed without going overboard on being grindy, leveling up should indeed involve something known as - actually playing the game.

Part of each level implies a goal to get to the next level. As in presuming you’re not getting way too much exp. Getting to the next level actually means playing the game. What a concept. Something many users around here don't seem to have any sort of comprehension of.

The whole entire idea of leveling is to get to the next level. As in not just doing the main campaign. But also going for side quests and other activities. So that you're actually playing a game. Not levels being shoved down your throat for free.

And sure enough, the problem exists on standard servers that aren't even double exp. Yet even from playing on preferred servers with double exp, anybody who is claiming this doesn't ruin the game big time must be playing some other game. Because the difference to a standard server is pretty extreme.

Forgive me, but I do not think a forum account created for the specific purpose of this thread posted by a guy who's highest class is a 28 rogue is a trustworthy source of information on the topic at all.

Either you're an alt and can't speak for new player experience, or you've barely gotten started in the game and are already complaining it sucks.

You had the option of making your character on a different server if you wanted to avoid the XP boost and worldhop to your friends if you want to play with them. There is absolutely no excuse here.

Oh, for those leveling their umpteenth alt, the Road to 70 buff can be great. No question about that.
For new players on the other hand, I strongly recommend staying away from Road to 70. It causes more problems than it solves for them - because it doesn't really solve any problems at all for new players.

It does make the game feel poorly designed when my alt has reached level 56 but I'm only allowed access to level 41 content because of MSQ progression - and despite deliberately avoiding roulettes and side content other than job quests and what's necessary to increase GC rank not to mention picking up a second job specifically to soak up some of that excess XP from the MSQ. I reached level 71 on both jobs while working on level 65 MSQ and it feels a lot better now I'm not getting the bonus (I'm still level 71 for both jobs but now at the level 68 MSQ).

I don't think Road to 70 should be removed entirely but I think it would be better applied only to jobs that are not equal to or higher than the character's MSQ progression level. That still allows the player to get a new job up to MSQ level quickly in case they want to switch their main job, or if they fall short for the next MSQ quest they'll be able to gain the needed level fast.

Something like this would be good, or perhaps only have road to 70 apply up to the level of the currently unlocked msq. I’ve seen too many people get sidetracked leveling everything before they unlock anything notable.

What’s really bad is when someone hasn’t even finished arr, they never leave potd, and eventually quit thinking it’s all this game offers.

I unlocked GNB on my recent alt before hitting ARR endgame. Cape Westwind is actually a decent solo duty at Lv60.

Is it ultimately any different "turning off your EXP at 60" to "turning off your EXP at 80"? Either way you eventually hit a point where your level stops going up.

Also if you don't want to have to pick up another job from scratch, look at the higher-level expansion jobs. RDM and SAM when you hit level 50; GNB and DNC when you hit level 60. If you don't want to take them into dungeons, use them purely as EXP sponges for quests and switch back to your chosen battle class for instances. It's the best way to level a class you like the look of but don't really want to have to play.

Don't roll on a preferred server. Got world visit now.

So let's go over your complaints here.

1. Speed runs you.
2. Game becomes to easy.
3. Level synced to content that should be your progression.
4. Exp, exp, exp.

TBH, it's all baseless whining. While you may be a new player you are forgetting something important that a good amount of MMO's do when they have been out for a while. And that's making leveling easier to catch you up to the current content. However FFXIV is different because everything is locked behind the MSQ and dungeons. So it doesn't matter what level you are anyways. You can be max level all you want but you aren't going to be doing anything level 80ish until you start completing that MSQ that you abandoned at Lv.25. So as follows...

1. No, it doesn't speedrun you. If it did then there would be no need to sell the MSQ completion books for each expansion except Shadowbringers in the store. Leveling faster doesn't mean you will be completing your MSQ and sync dungeons faster. You still do that at your own pace.
2. Past content is already made easier with each new expansion. The longer a MMO is out the easier beginning or earlier content will be to catch you up, etc. This applies to 3 and 4 as well.

You may think it may make the game "Easy" but in reality the game IS easy throughout the MSQ and such. If you want a challenge then you need to reach Lv.80 and start doing Savage/Extreme raids, etc. And once you hit Lv.70 and that buff wears off, getting to 80 will take you a bit the first time going through the MSQ. And of course if you want to level everything to 80 it will take you even longer.

You could always decide to use gear that keeps you at the minimum item level for the part you are on. That is always an option...but not ideal since you would have to be 100% on top of your gear upgrades. That would make it more "realistic" to what you are doing in the story...and possibly provide a slight challenge(not likely though)

I wonder how much experience you had with other FF games cause wow. Pretty much every FF game has way to gain massive amounts of exp FF9 being a major offender (looking at you Rusty). The speed that you level from these gain spots roflstomps the speed that you currently level in this game. These spots and methods are optional and not obivious to the inexperienced or unaware. FF14's leveing is still a snails pace in comparison to what can be pulled off in other FF games.

I think having the option to remove it would be fine.

This seems to be my new main but he's not my first character.

He was leveled on a preferred server and was level 80 before being done with Heavensward. I think Ghimlyt Dark was the first dungeon I couldn't solo (and obviously the trials needed groups still). I FLEW through content.

On a second character this was amazing, I'd seen it all before and I got to experience the story in one straight shot. I remember thinking a few times that it would have been rough as a new player, though. You can outpace content so quickly it can be confusing. I remember someone sighing at me for not having a job crystal when I was nearly level 40 but I didn't have it because I hadn't beaten Ifrit yet.

Not necessarily.
Just because you're running something doesn't mean you're in it for the EXP.
Outside of the fact that there are many ways content can reward you, and that doing the content is often rewarding in itself, if people ran things because of EXP people would stop running a majority of the games content once they're at cap, especially if they only care about 1 job as your arguments seem to focus on.

oh yes you are locked behind story.

Also if you don't personally like it does not mean you have leave to speak on behalf of those that do like it.
