I have this property that I don't even use, but I go in it every week to stop the timer (when the timer is active). We should have like a renting system to allow people to rent out our properties.
This is a good solution to our housing problem.

I wouldn't mind having the option to do this, some extra gil coming in and giving my friends a place to rent till they can find thier own.
Only if they make owners pay rent too. It'll be a good gil sink to be honest.
Oh! Yes please! I want to RP as a slumlord!
great, now i can be behind in rent ingame too
i came to this game to escape late stage capitalism and socialism-hate, not to play a game that promotes worker oppression ugh
If your not using it but want other people to be able to use it by renting it out.. why not just drop that plot and let someone else who would actually use it have it?
Renting it isn't a solution to the problem. Hogging to plots and not even using it when there are people who would actually make use of it is part of the problem.
Can't you already do this? Just make someone a tenant, agree on a regular fee, and evict them if they don't pay it in time.
Though I agree with Evergrey; if you're not using it, just let someone else have it.

Is it? No one can even see you own a house.
There are many, many threads on these forums alone that would suggest people do care.
I mean you have, it's just all those people that go into the request threads insisting that the current system is working fine.
I'm not saying their reasoning is in any way valid, but those demands do exist.
Edit: Oops broke my promise to myself and now I have to do the disclaimer.
Obvious bait thread.
Or you know, They could just not buy plots they don't intend to use so there is more for those that DO want a house.
Crazy how that works.
The housing situation would get even worse in this sort of situation, since now people would be encouraged to buy out as many wards worth of plots as they can get their grubby paws on because they can turn a big profit just renting to those who would have owned it outright themselves, had someone else not bought it with the intent to letting someone else "borrow" it for a fee.
I thought you could already make someone a tenant?
The solution to not having enough homes for players isn't to give players an excuse to hold even more properties hostage. You start this and everyone will just want to grab a home to use it to try to make money- it just makes the system even more garbage for everyone who just wants to have a house to enjoy.
At least this means you're paying SE every month, so it's all good.
Apart from that, I'm glad we don't have a rent system, and seeing how SE has taken measurements before to prevent players from abusing the housing system too much, I very much doubt we'll ever get it. Enjoy your status and please keep supporting this game with your money!
i'm against it just because then the people who don't have a house gonna shout louder, yes even if they have chance to rent it they'll shout how they have to pay and owner don't and bla bla bla, just click that placard dammit.
A rent system would just encourage house hoarders to keep it up. No thanks. If you're that sad that your house is empty, either actually use it or vacate the property and let someone else have it.
You're a good example of why I dislike lala's very much ^^
Though this is a troll account, he has a point. People don't play games to experience "real life simulator". They often play them to escape some of the not so great things about the real world.
So you just want people to envy you. Well you've already got that from just having one house, never mind more than one. You don't need to become a landlord in this game for people to envy you.
If you own a house in a populated server but don't actually decorate/use it, that's extremely petty towards people who would use that same plot for things. Nothing I hate more then seeing a basic looking house with only maybe a crystal outside that's been there for months like that, even more so when it's a Medium or, in the case of my neighborhood, a Large.
Guys u are aware that we can only have one personal house and one fc house arnt you?, So I wouldn't fear the slum Lord situation anymore, you've got worse fears now which is actually getting a house with this stupid random timer situation we got now.
Only other people that I can think of that got around this was the people who owned all those lots before they made the change to one personal and one fc house per account, I could be mistaken here but didn't they get grand fathered in thus keeping there houses, if someone knows the answer on this one please let me know cause I heard about this but don't remember what happened in the fallout.
Other then that all I can think of is the guy or girl who pays for multiple service accounts and like it or not he or she has legitimate claim to his or her property, not something I'd do but if there willing to go that far then ya I guess.
imagine wanting to rp as a land hoarder for status in an online game
I actually really like this idea. But there would have to be a lot of rules within the system to ensure fairness, and to ensure it isn't abused. Rental laws essentially lol.
While this wouldn't solve the issue of many properties being owned by few people (in fact, it might incentivize players to purchase properties for the sake of renting them), it would allow people that otherwise might not be able to utilize housing to do so just the same as homeowners already can but on a more limited scale. And I think that's a really cool concept. With proper systems in place (like reasonable rent ranges/lease period options and "rental laws"), it could be a really viable, safe option for time-limited housing. But who knows. Maybe I'm crazy. if they did add this, I'd love to see a "rent to own" option, along with direct housing purchases lol. But I doubt that'll happen. But it'd sure be cool!
But I do want to say that I don't think this should be an alternative to adding new wards/locations. Personally I think they should change how apartments function to be truly instanced so everyone can have (at the very least) a small home. But this, along with those changes, could make things really interesting and cool in a way that they aren't currently.
Certainly not necessary, but a really cool thought!
Wow I woke up to a lot of comments regarding my comment about houses being a status symbol. Well I'm clearly not wrong. Having one of the many limited spaces on a populated server like Cactaur is indeed a difficult feat and requires much dedication.
Answer 1: no, it would just make the housing situation worse.
Answer 2: imagine thinking you're cool just because you own a house in game.
