Viable or not?
You mean repairing my broken healer soul? Hopefully soon. It feels so woefully shattered with the cooldownless tanks and the stand-in-the-bad players I've had in the past two weeks.
But if you mean your equipment, you can easily go to a repair npc and click on the 'Repair All' on the upper right corner of the window.
Yea dude. Repair all been in the game.
I think Yoshi-P was asked about this recently and his answer was basically "AHAHAHAHA!.. No."
Hopefully it gets added eventually. Really annoying having to click like six times to repair all my crap. At least I can actually repair stuff without the npc now that I finally got around to leveling my crafters :/
Would also like a water/fertilize all option for gardening while we're at it...
I assume it can't handle actually repairing everything in the time it takes to click one button, but it would be nice if they could automate the "go to next category; repair all" process, even if it takes a couple of seconds to run, so it's one-click even if it's not instant.
Could even add some cute tinkering animation and sound effect, would become a soothing action to be honest lol. Like skinning in a game but less frequently repeated. If they are worried about being locked in or money costs let players cancel the action with like a 1s progress bar that launches consecutively for each category.
It takes me about 30 secs top to repair everything. Would you really prefer a developer spending more time to dig back into the code so you can save 30 secs every few hours/days?
I don't agree with it being it's weakest point. There is always a way to improve it, but it has one of the best UX in an MMO.
It's already 7 years old, so of course some things don't age well. But I'd rather have other things improved than the mender.
Many more things take a lot of clicks, the mender is just a few.
Sign. Really don't get why this hasn't been added. Almost every single other modern game I can think of with gear durability has a button to fix all your shit at once; there is no reason why this game can't also have one.
It's IMO already bad enough for gear durability to exist in a video game to begin with (there are points where chasing too much realism in video games is a bad thing that impacts the fun/enjoyment, and this crosses one of those points), but if you must have it, at least don't make it a chore to handle.
Yes, I would.Quote:

What kind of silly question was that?
This game has one of the most frustrating and excessively click-bloaty interfaces of any MMO I've personally played and it's always been near the top of my list of complaints about the game. The repair system is just one of a long list of issues it has, and fixing it would just be one of many QoL improvements I'd love to see in the interface.
While they're at it, remove dark matter from the game and make it a direct gil cost.
Fine, l agree. Just remove every requirement on everything.
Make the game easier, so that I can get everything I want in seconds.
The new relic is a great improvement, let's hope the rest of the steps are easy too.
Let's actually type every command in chat to move an item to the left or right, that's somehow will made a game harder.
This is needed QoL that they need to implement. But outdated UI is kinda japanese fetish at this point, so I don't think they'll ever make it better.
Yes, because that's clearly what people are talking about when they want something unnecessarily convoluted to be simplified. Clearly they just don't like challenge.Quote:

I'm not talking about MMOs, I'm talking about video games as a whole.Quote:
Gear durability in MMOs isn't about realism, it's about having an easy to implement gli sink. Same reason we have MB and teleport fees.
Also, a lot of the things you consume gear durability on in this game generate gil (usually generating more than what is consumed, too), so I'm not sure the "gil removal" argument really flies. Even if it did, it still doesn't make gear durability any less tedious or un-fun of a mechanic.
... Nothing you said really changed anything about my post. A bad UX is a bad UX. Yeah, it's an MMO, but we should stop using that to excuse poor practises. Prompts in all the wrong places, inventory management systems that don't support system design elements (like being able to select multiple items for desynth, GC turn-in, etc.), and countless beginner traps (tomestone vendors are a nightmare), are just scratching the surface of the UX abomination that is FFXIV. It's a fantastic gameplay experience but the actual systems surrounding it are abysmal.
Keep in mind, a lot of these are just very general software or very general videogame things... that are done better with bigger limitations, worse development environments, smaller budgets. Stuff done better on 16-bit game consoles with few gamepad buttons, or like Windows 3.1 user interface. There's really no excusing it.
You are mixing up UX design, an overarching software concept, with game design. The impetus of UX design is to reduce the resistance in the user experiencing what they want out of your product. A good UX is something the user doesn't even notice. That's not making enemies weaker, or giving the player more items when they win, or bigger stats. It's allowing the player to get into the best parts of your experience more quickly.
I know what UX is. But this helps other people that don't.
And as I said before, there are many other things that could be improved that are way more annoying than repairing.
The menu they added when interacting with the summoning bell is damn slow, it's frustrating trying to quickly move out after checking your retainers and being stuck in the menu until you cancel it from the button.
Before just clicking outside the window (like with any other menu), or pressing ESC would close the retainer's menu, which was much better in my opinion.
And there are many more issues related to UX and not necessarily the UI could be improved. Honestly the mender is not so bad.
Edit, so I tried the retainer thing again, and realized it only happens when I sell items through my retainer (as in selling to NPC). I get stuck in the ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO LEAVE...?
But really, it's so annoying, I still forget and press ESC a few times before realizing I have to press the button.
It's not that big of a deal to me, doesn't take long at all and boom I'm done repairing, even if I'm repairing multiple jobs, if they made it quicker I wouldn't complain but personally it's alright the way it is.
Unless it's just a flip the switch thing then I'd rather em focus on way more important things like hrothgar/viera headpieces being added then making the repair process quicker when it already is quick.
It has nothing to do with being "easy and fast." There is no difficulty involved in repairing gear and the seconds saved by scrolling through all the repair list will not add to more dungeon/quests/etc time. It is about the experience. Repairing your gear via the Mender should be as simple as talking to him, and have him repair all your gear at once. I would assume that the code has several lines, one for head/chest/arms, another for leg/feet, etc. when all can be simplified into a single line which reads "if player gear<100% then repair" and that's it.
An actual repair all equipment without the need to select all the dropdowns has been asked before many many years ago. It was either toward the end of 1.0 or during ARR beta. I am going to say we probably won't get it XD
My main problem with the current system is it's easy to miss things when you are in hurry. Maybe instead of a menu have buttons with colors indicating something need to be repaired in that set, so you can tell at a glance what you have and have not done. Of course that would probably be more complicated than just having repair all.
Wouldn't mind a few seconds of repairing time for the piece of mind for knowing I got everything.
What in the world? Repair ALL items? Even the junk armor you just moved into your inventory to sell to a vendor or desynth?
Only thing that really matters is your current gear -- you know, the gear you're now wearing, not the gear you used 4 levels ago and haven't got around to cleaning out of your bags ...
You could get an addon to repair everything..
Oops, wrong game :)
