Melded materia deleted trying to glamour

Good evening all!

I recently found my materia destroyed on my gear forbidden melded gear (ilvl 480). I had no idea what caused this until I had to re-read several times on a warning identifying the issue.

The Cause:

I placed my gear into the Glamour Dresser so that I could have a glamour plate of it and not have to keep casting glamour dispell when I change glamour plates to enjoy its appearance.

In reading the warning for the first attempt I could read out that soulbound, signatures removed, and durability set to 0%. I have an impairment which causes words to swim around or eventually become a mass of blob in low letter spacing from a recent visually impairing incident (welding related, not my cause).

So I failed to read that materia gets destroyed (quite literally devoid of my view, physically imperceptible at that time) and didn't even suspect it because it serves no practical function other than another gil-sink to destroy attached materia, as I thought at the time.

What I want:

A much more professionally made warning utilizing color cues, MUCH fewer words, and bullets rather than written list, such as:

Warning

A Glamour prism will be consumed for this glamour

The following customizations will be removed

*Materia

*Signatures

*Aetherial bonuses

The item will be spiritbonded and condition set to 0%

What I'd like:

A rollback of my character to a point before the materia destroying incidence occured. I understand this may be alot to ask for but I involuntarily (due to visual challenges) destroyed my materia from a poorly made warning.

Why I expect it:

I want Square Enix to exercise the same level of customer support I've experienced in other MMO titles such as WoW and GW2. I want devs and GMs in this game to show they care for the playerbase and respond to issues like these where handicaps cause people to perform unintended actions or circumstances arise and an increase in quality of life is needed.

For example, in WoW when my step brother quit the game and left behind characters my brother and friend enjoyed, Blizzard actually separated the characters into 2 different user accounts, and allowed them to refer a friend one another for a great leveling experience.

The warning is there. If you're not 100% sure the warning isn't warning you about something you wanted to be warned about, read the warning thoroughly before you double confirm that you want to do what it's warning you you're about to do.

If you bothered to read the above, my complaint is about the failure to give effective notice.

Allude to reality, me walking in a business in Texas with a concealed firearm lacking 30.06 and 30.07 signs in a conspicuous manner cannot incriminate me on grounds that I failed to notice signage set too low or too high on their windows.

And print on any contract signed must be of a certain size and location because even deceptively formatted contracts can be held invalid in courts.

Inb4 hurr durr this is a video game not a court of law, I'm paying money for a service and improperly listed warnings giving one word among a wall of text instead of an ergonomic list to those of us with a few sight problems, is frankly taking advantage of a disability.

I mention this because failure of effective notice is a legitimate concept. I've pressed through the warning 400+ times well beyond the glamour cap not having materia to worry about so this one time mistake is extra punishing. Why did I fall for it? Materia is mentioned once in a wall of text without any bullet list or color discern.

Is much more ergonomic to the eyes and less strain on reading disabilities. This is why job aids and professional training manuals utilize such formats.

You clicked through the warnings fully aware of it and now you complain about it?
Then it's your own fault that you lost the materia.
SE made an excellent job to warn about everything that causes to lost something.
Besides if you enjoy the melded gear so much then buy/craft another copy of it and put the copy in the glamour chest.

You're quite literally ignoring everything I've written, willfully it appears. I was not effectively notified because of my visual impairment. One word among a wall of text.

I'm starting to get the vibes that you players and devs believe that failure to present a professionally made UI and accomodating vision needs should result in the disabled suffering.

Your last statement is a good solution to this problem but I've never had to get another piece of gear to glamour itself. The idea as a first thought sounds extremely silly (and is not an option for Unique gear). HQ unmelded gear is about 2.5-3m for full set on Crystal Data center. One expensive glamour set to workaround poor design. A topic for another post.

Not being aware of lost materia, I did not think of this.

As frustratingly denied a response by a human being and being informed to post my case on Feedback forums, story is as follows.

Good evening GM support team,

I send this message to voice my complaint that materia that had been Forbidden Melded on most of my current gear has been destroyed due to placing the gear inside the glamour chest.

I am -extremely- upset because as it is known, forbidden melding is an extremely time consuming and resource consuming process.

I proceeded to place my current gear into the Glamour Chest to make a glamour plate of it since I enjoy its appearance, but I find it -extremely- arduous to have to remove the glamours each time I want to enjoy its appearance. I use glamour plates alot to change outfits for roleplaying.

I was not made aware of materia being lost in the glamour chest as there is no practical reason to do that. I only remembered glamour chest gear going to 0% Durability and becoming bound to the player so it could not be sold on the MB.

The notice for materia loss is represented in a few words at the bottom of a wall of text each time I load a piece of gear into the glamour chest, which itself is very tedious. This is not effective notice as it is not highlighted in red or another color and listed in bullet points, instead placed in paragraph form.

I am extremely upset to see my stats now heavily reduced as well as have a cushion of stats to help support my allies while keeping up my damage as a Red Mage.

I want my equipment to be melded to the way it was before I placed them in the chest, even if I must lose the current gear in a glamour plate in a rollback. I am requesting a rollback if there is no other solution.

tl;dr, I can't keep my glamours on my current gear that I like to use as an outfit as of itself because it is my highest ilvl. I need to cast dispell glamour on each piece to use the base outfit.

I have a claim to this property by United States consumer law, my materia that has been destroyed, and it is illegal by failure to provide effective notice that accommodates visual disabilities.

Furthermore, Section 5(a) of the Federal Trade Commission Act prohibits “unfair or deceptive acts or practices in or affecting commerce."
Deceptive practices are defined as those in which the seller misrepresents or misleads the consumer, and the misleading practice is substantial.

Substantial being I spent more than a day gathering capital to afford this Materia melding. I have a legitimate stake in my materia lost and cannot be argued as Square Enix's intellectual property due to my real time effort input and legitimate means of ascertation.

You are wrong there. The warning text is quite clear in its meaning, and is not unusually hard to read. It does not constitute a "wall of text" as you claim, but is just a single, relatively short, paragraph of text.

You don't own the virtual items in the game, SE does. It's in all caps and underlined in the user agreement:

Buddy... it sucks that you lost that materia, but it tells you. It doesn't matter if it's not flashy or 'ergonomic'. You skipped over the text, clicked the check box, and clicked yes. Since you like irl comparisons... That's like signing a contract and then when something happens that you don't like and they tell you it was in the contract, you get mad because you didn't read the whole thing and demand they undo it.

Listen, I'm dyslexic, but when a prompt comes up when I try to do something, and even makes me check a box saying I know what it says, I stop to read it. There's no excuse except that you didn't read it, but you're still responsible. Sorry.

My guy....As ppl have said above, I'm sorry you lost the overmelded materia. I pentameld and know how tedious it can be and how much materia breaks when it doesnt work. But I think youre blowing it out of proportions.

1) Materia is easier than ever to get in the game so replacing what you have lost shouldn't take more than a day
2) If it was VII and VIII materia then do like 3 hunt trains you'll have made back everything.
3) Its fair to ask the devs to change the warning in a future patch if the current one isnt working for you but on the flipside, you also didnt take the time to read the existing warning before taking the action that resulted in your current situation.
4) Personal recommendation, but delete the part in your original post after the tl;dr. I was sympathetic to your situation until you started quoting international law.

Bruh, its just materia, you can get more. Just run a few roulettes as the requested class or jump on a hunt train

It's funny how someone is able to read through heavy wordings of law and opinions of the court... just to blame SE for a warning they've overlooked in 6 short lines they call "a wall of text".

I guess I must have signed the above clause that they claim all in game commerce as theirs 7 years ago.

So it seems like my takeaway is that I'm expected to spend another 2m+ on gear to make a "copy" of it in my wardrobe to avoid having to constantly glamour dispell when I want its appearance again.

I suppose I can hope to expect that a rollback that does not benefit at all, only hurt me for some gil I have earned since then, is too much to ask for a fairly bad mistake. Checking a box over 600+ times filling up glamour chest over and over and taking things out and not running into this problem until its too late.
World of Warcraft has done things in interest of the player for ergonomics: they've split accounts of my friends into 2 so they could have characters they individually enjoyed on it separated. I've had WoW employees stay up all night with me helping to secure my account and start an authenticator while actively battling a hacker.
This issue happened because visual impairment is a recent development and I seek to have nothing I did not already have and I am hoping that Square Enix can provide the same good customer service as I have experienced in other online games.

@MistakeNot, I don't appreciate you being insensitive to my visual disability. In this forum you can magnify text. I have my UI set to 200% for UHD and as large a scale it will go in game, nonequivocal.

It took about 700+ materia of mine to forbidden meld, the % success drops to 10/7/5/5 if I recall.

The what. Who is witch hunting? Who is accusing? Presenting ideas with malicious intent? Are we looking at the same thread here?

I know it's hard to see, but not everyone is your enemy. People are telling you that you should have read the warning. Disability or no, if you didn't read it, you shouldn't have clicked to confirm it. Telling you that is not malicious or 'witch hunting'. You made a mistake. Keyword being you. There's already been folk here trying to discredit my visual disability on behalf i can highlight text with ctrl f and magnify it with ctrl + and i must not have an impairment. The witch hunt is trying to suggest my disability must not impair me on monocolor text with a low text spacing distance. And sarcastic derailing comments. I appreciate the ToS reference on property rightsof the ecommerce however.

I skip over words now and i have been using thousands of glamour slots with chest
That same warning and not having a materia loss issues until i decided to glamour current tier gear this time after a few years.

So i apologize if somehow ive convinced all i did was ignore a warning insteadof me jumping a word, with an impairment i just developed.

I realize its an incidental mistake on account of my recent condition but that's why I'm asking for a rollback and not to generate materia on my behalf.

Let me grindout all my tomes and money ive made since then. Its very important for me to feel the reward in that work especially becauseit was my first time forbidden melding and i like high stats to helpcarry my friends in learning a fight.

That's the thing with a recent condition, its a learning process ive yet to adapt to. I don't have even any forum post or support request history about it.

Id like a rollback which actually puts me at a disadvantage to have to get some eden tokens and tomes back.

It sucks that you lost time and effort, but you aren't gonna get anyone's sympathy by demanding squeenix fix a mistake you made with real life legal arguments.

We've all made a mistake that's made us waste a lot of time in a game before. Best just to accept it and move on, being sure not to do it again.

I didn't actually physically perceive the word "materia" as words swim around and i read over that the item does become spirit bound and reduced to 0% and loses signatures which all of those were nonissues to me.

I interpreted it as a deceptive ecommerce sink and it drove me to do some research that night. I can't demand a return on ecommerce now isaw the ToS clause i signed 7 years ago but I'm going to talk to square tonight after this shift to explain the situation. Not that long ago we had someone come in complaining that their account had been rolled back three months after they'd requested it. Do you really want to wait that long to play the game again over this issue?

That sounds like a very difficult impairment to expect people to cater to everywhere and in every situation. You've given examples like a shop being required to display a certain notice in the window - what if the "words swim around" and you can't read that either?

While I can't claim to know the legal ins and outs, I would assume that if you have a visual impairment that can stop you from comprehending the meaning of text, then it is your responsibility to ensure that you have understood things correctly because it sounds like something that would be impossible for others to plan for and guaranteeably prevent.

On a side note, you have been rude to several posters for "being insensitive to your visual impairment" but it took you a long time to say that you have one.

At the point when you have already melded materia onto it, yes.

If you had put it into the dresser and onto a plate prior to taking it out again and melding it, you wouldn't have needed to buy a second one.

Additionally, unless your data centre has really bad inflation compared to mine (JP Elemental), the price has probably dropped and you won't be paying anywhere near as much for them after the initial rush.

I think a core difference here compared to those examples is that nobody else was involved in actively destroying your materia.

Rightly or wrongly, you did not comprehend the warning, and put the item in the dresser yourself.

Doing so means that you destroyed your materia.

I have no idea how the game notice intersects with US consumer law, but there may be something in the ToS that overrules that requirement - especially when you're not dealing with anything that is worth "real money".

Really, the best real-world equivalent that I can think of is that you bought clothes with specific washing instructions printed on the tag, misread the tag due to your impairment, and it got ruined because you washed it incorrectly. I don't think the company would be at fault in that case.

Yes, posting on the forums, and getting responses from the community is not ever going to help you when you're facing a frustrating situation such as this.

But the fact remains, that the warning is there, so really there is not much that can be said or done in your defense specifically.

Again, it is extremely frustrating, to do something such as this, and its quite unfortunate.

But keep in mind a few things:

1. That gear is not even cap level gear.
2. Materia is easily replaced.
3. Gil is more than abundant (which is one of many options to replace said materia)
4. If you plan on playing this game for very long at all, you will be melding materia countless times again, to countless pieces of gear.

Its all really, just throw away items. The only things that stick with your character, is your glamour, and you'll likely finding yourself changing that numerous times as well.

Just try to shrug this off, and press onward to more enjoyable experiences.

While, yes, this was not a shining moment, and the warning could be improved, but in reality of the grand scheme of things, this mistake, really doesnt warrant your frustration, and more importantly, does not need to brought to the attention of the developers.

Side note:
I think there is an achievement for affixing 10,000 pieces of materia, maybe look at this as an opportunity to move a bit closer to that achievement?

People need to find a new hobby at work, breaking this guys post down bit by bit, when he clearly is regretting something, and obviously frustrated, does not help anyone, but is the definition of kicking someone when they are down.

There's been alot of good information posted here from players.

For point 1 on rollbacks, It's actually nice to know that they backup that far but that is usually for people's accounts being tampered with. Rolling back a week or I think even 2 ... for me wouldn't hurt as I forbidden melded a few days after 5.2 dropped.

For point 2, I can't claim any of the materia as ecommerce for what I signed 7 years ago in the ToS. For the Signage I mentioned, it has a red cancel sign (https://www.safetysign.com/images/so...ages/F8152.png) that catches the eye, and must be made conspicuous, the keyword here, for anyone to incriminate you if you walk in with a firearm. I fit's not conspicuous, then you're off the hook due to entrapment protection (they set you up to break a law). The difference in reality being the signage is very inconspicuous and I can lean so large into the sign that I can only see 4-5 words in my IRL FoV.

I think I mentioned earlier I have a visual impairment but I'm gonna reformat this post and keep my original for reference due to me having to post these things when I get off the j-o-b at 2/3 Am.

For point 3, that's a good strategy I'll remember it but it didn't come to mind because I didn't have an outfit planned. My glamour is MOST of the pieces of Master Recipe 8 gear mixed with eden gears, so I already had melded them for stats using an older glamour. I should make a post suggesting workarounds to this.

For point 4, I understand I've been vague with my impairment I still wish to keep confidential to avoid harassment because this game has little protection for it: Looking at monocolor text with low letter spacing causes them to swim around and words to be missed for me now and even at times appear like an incomprehendable wall. So I can miss a word, in this case it was the word " ,materia, " put in a list. I got no visual cue of it, and only read that the warning in that instance was: spiritbonding, 0% durability, and signature removal whcih was fine to me.

There actually is lots of legislation for goods for your example for labels and such having to be conspicuous. Because product makers could make it inconspicuous in attempt to get you to ruin your clothes to buy more, in a rush overstock then discontinue the item.

I am -very- suspicious of MMO's these days, for example I got in a legal battle with Jagex for 3 months trying to get my end game maxxed skills account back that they froze. because I reversed charges they made in my name, and I was quite -angry- because that is the only mmo my late friend who had ALS could play (point and click). Who lost the use of his legs and forearms in that time span.

The warning is there but I could not digest the information due to a word completely disappearing at that time from my vision, and I'm rather inexperienced with what my visual needs are for this recent condition such as asking friends to read for me.

I know that in 3-4 weeks time I can just upgrade the crafted gear 10ilvl which makes it regular meld only.

It feels really bad though to be missing almost 1200 secondary stats for over a month of play. I got my scorch hitting around 92k direct crit to 112k in raids (no vuln) and hit often (3700 crit, 2500 det and 3100 DH). It's kinda like enjoying something ya put alot of time into like a new body work on a car but it gets a big ugly dent in it and can't repair it in week. Or for a less expensive allusion, working hard on an artwork piece for 3 days and then having forces at work spill your paints all over it and you can't get new canvas for a month.

I think you're misunderstanding. They didn't request to have their account rolled back three months; they had requested a rollback three months ago for something that had just happened, and it took all that time for it to be implemented.

That seems to be stretching the example - Square Enix certainly hasn't deliberately written that text to be misleading so you accidentally destroy your materia. Also, here in Australia at least, it's very standard for clothes to have their washing instructions printed in a small tag sewn to the inner seam, written in monochrome 6-pt ALL CAPS, so if that's a legal standard for clear legible communication of instructions then the only improvement I can see is that they've at least put it in a list. It's still very wall-of-text.

Or another example, and one that you certainly couldn't make an argument that the company might want it to happen... food allergy warnings. I've just gone and looked in my pantry. There's hardly anything with a food allergy statement that doesn't say something like "Contains gluten; may contain milk, peanuts, tree nuts" in small font, possibly all caps, possibly wedged between multiple other lines of text.

If you have a milk allergy and failed to spot that in the list, I doubt you'd be able to argue that they didn't warn you. There's no way multiple companies would be formatting it like that if it wouldn't be legally considered sufficient warning.


Edit: The core of my point is - yes it's miserable for you that this happened and it "wasn't your fault" that you couldn't read it, but that doesn't mean they have automatically legally failed you and you have the right to demand compensation.

If anything it might be a warning to you that you can't rely on your own reading ability to keep you 'safe' if a similar reading failure happened in a situation with real consequences.

If you now know you can miss things in a list formatted that way, you can be wary of that and get a second opinion if necessary.

The thing is with allergies you have a precognition and diagnosis in your mind with the specific idea in grocery shopping that you're looking for milk. This is known as a bias, because I am not thinking in my head ahead of time anything about materia protection when I'm going to glamour something. Why? Because FF is the only mmo I play that you have to store gear and destroy enchantments to use it for vanity.

And actually not -all- the goods are listed there. Because I've had friends with removed gall bladders and companies -do not- always list food dye and it's only known post-de-facto with a hospital visit. Let's PM some more if ya have more allusions to add I feel it's derailing my thread a bit.

you were twice about the removal of materia and you had to confirm twice:

The game tells you the item is going to lose customization (materia) and then lists examples, second example being materia.

Armoire gives a warning about removing customization and has been in the game for years. The Armoire does not mention Materia specifically because common sense would dictate "remove all customization" means the loss of Materia added to the item after receiving it.

Sorry the game doesn't work the way you think it should (materia shouldn't be removed). You were warned but made your own assumptions.

Ok, so looking at your legal judgments you brought up, there's one big thing missing from your example. Which is actual financial loss.
Subscription time lost wouldn't be enough generally. There would need to be a direct correlation between what you lost and related money.

For instance, if it were possible to spend real money for materia, and then you lost the real money materia as "easily" as you did, you might have a legal argument. That's real money directly lost. But since materia is acquired purely with in game resources, there is no monetary loss in your situation. It's purely fictional resources lost, which no court is going to care about.

Are we really kicking up this much of a fuss over materia? Everything except crafting materia is so easily obtained, and even then...

You only have to store the gear into the glamour dresser, if you want to make use of the glamour plate system. The good ol' Cast Glamour system still exists, allowing you to put the appearance of a piece of gear onto another piece of gear, as long as both pieces of gear are in your inventory/on your character. Costs 1 glamour prism per cast.

As an unrelated sidenote, if you're talking about the augmented crafted gear, that won't be added until the odd numbered patch following an even numbered one. So you'll have to wait another 3-ish months.
