Shark Mount

Just got the Shark mount. Interesting mount, however, uses the usual generic mount music. Was hoping it would have some other theme, but alas. Posting here in case anyone was curious what it looked liked and how it was done.

Got it by getting 5680 points and then having an 80% bonus at the end. Used krill & ragworms while using Patience 1 and popped Hi Cordials like candy until a Spectral Current popped then switched immediately to Plump Worms and went all out. Was not level 80 at the time either so can be done before max level.

Hope to get mine today. I didn't get to do much fishing yesterday.

It constantly feels as though I am doing something wrong in each of the ocean runs I've done so far. I can't explain it. I always seem to be much lower on points than most of the people in my party and I am doing the exact same things as described by people with the mount on both here and reddit:

- Use krill/ragworms normally
- Constant use of Patience I
- Constant Hi-Cordial use
- Plump worms in spectral
- Double hook in spectral

I know you can't get the points to reach the mount without spectral happening at least 3 times, but I have no idea what I am doing different to see others in my party reaching 4-5k points while I may only have 2.5k.

Seemingly there are people that got the mount even just with two spectrals (I also just missed it by 900 points) if you have the right amount of bonus. Maybe you get less points because your luck is bad and you get lots of NQ fish? Also its a big difference if you can only double hook once or twice per spectral and if you get lucky and have !!! when you use it. (And on top of that the NQ)

I am honestly not really sure if I like that new content. We already had people drop out after the first round because of no spectral (and it being quite difficult to reach 10k with that) which of course made it worse for the rest of us. I also wonder when the first people will go there just to troll others by doing nothing. Seeing how you need the bonus at the end which you only get by doing it as a group.

I'm not sure why people swap to plump specifically in spectral. There seems to be a huge overlap in what you catch with any bait.
Personally I'm trying to figure out the rarer achievement bonuses you can get. Tried catching 15 or so octopus types as a party and it wasn't enough it seemed.... Wanna be an Octopus Traveler!

There's just a higher chance at catching the bigger fish worth more points with the plump worm, but the big fish just take too much time to catch outside of spectral.

plump worm is just so fast you wanna use that to get as much fish as possible in spectral window. unfortunately for me i've never been on a trip where there's been more than one spectral :(

This is the big issue I'm having. Is there any actual trick to triggering the currents? Is it pure RNG?

Why double hook in spectral? It seems better to use GP on patience II with powerful hookset etc. as you get more HQ fish out of that. Do two-four fishes give way more points than one HQ?

I've seen somebody get over 11k with just two rainbows, it is possible, so don't give up after first area.

With a sitting animation it seems to take longer to fish, during a spectral current? But maybe Im wrong

I think party finder groups may be a better option to coordinate. You can make 3 teams and say enter the duty after 5min when everybody solo already entered. You can assign 2 people for one bait so you get the most out of every zone, which is important for the 10% bonuses at the end. Spectral fishes seem to be fishable with more than one bait anyway, they overlap.

You trigger the currents by catching Spectral fish. I don't know how many are actually needed to get a Spectral Current to pop, but I did get an extra 10% bonus for being the person to trigger one of them. Pretty much everyone needs to actually be fishing to contribute towards the goal to get all three Spectral Currents. And you absolutely need the three currents to get enough points to qualify for the mount. It looks like this is having a side effect of some people joining a voyage and if a Spectral Current doesn't pop in the first four minutes of the voyage they'll quit the voyage and launch another voyage.

I was using Patience I to conserve GP and using Precision for ! and Powerful for !! & !!!

I would recommend not sitting as the animation is longer losing out on cast time. Same with tossing fish back. That is a couple extra casts you could be making.

The XP is absolutely insane too. Went from 70 to 80 in 5 voyages.

With patience II it not only costs a lot but you will only get 1 fish per catch, while double hook can catch you up to four big fishes in HQ if you are lucky. But its probably too early to tell which is better? I in general dont use patience II, I mostly use I since its much cheaper.

I wonder if catching the fish itself is RNG then? And people have pointed out on reddit that you dont need all three currents to get the mount. I was around 9.1k with just two and if I had been more lucky with my HQ I would have made it. So I guess having three just decreases the luck you need but at the same time in all of my voyages I never had people reach that.

I caught the Spectral Megalodon and triggered the spectral current in the first area, and caught the Spectral Bass in one of the others but that didn't trigger it for some reason. They were both HQ, but maybe multiple people need to catch them or something?

Man, this is starting to sound like content I'd be better off avoiding for a week or two while all the hype dies down. Can just imagine getting grouped up with people that'll get upset that I'm "not fishing hard enough!"

This. But im also afraid if i wait too long i might not get enough people doing voyages for the top prizes to be in reach.

It seems to be the case because I have also caught quite a few spectral fish and nothing happened. I also wonder if you need certain bait to catch these or if its just purely random?

The problem with waiting is that a lot of the bonus multipliers require a group effort to catch enough fish to trigger them. Also, the bigger the group, the more likely someone will trigger the spectral current. If you wait until interest dies down, you might not get full parties, and that will make it tougher to get enough points for the mount.

I wouldn't worry about getting yelled at. In the dozen or so runs I made, no one said anything to anybody beyond a few greetings at the very beginning. Most people are too focused on maximizing their own score to worry about what everyone else is doing.

One final note, in the run where I finally hit the 10,000 mark and got the mount, there was a guy leveling in the single digits. Even low levels can catch fish and contribute to the group effort.

I tried double hook a few times now and I never caught it. 400GP is still expensive, idk if its really worth.

And yeah low level players can contribute too, but it's like going in Baldesion Arsenal with randoms, it is better if people have an idea what they want to achieve and go for. Better that they already have all baits and maybe even bufffood. And gear for enough GP, that increases just the chances for the whole group. Ofc rng is still looking at you in the end. But I will just make premades at this point, seems more efficient if you really wanna go for the mount or title.

Hm what did you not catch? I am only using double hook in spectral phases for !! and !!! and it always gave huge amount of points. Some guy on reddit even says that he does not use patience at all and still won over 10k because he simply used three double hooks while spectrals were going on. I guess there might be different strategies to reach the same amount but those that have reached beyond 16k (at least those that posted on reddit) did it with double hook.

It just utterly frustrates me how random this conten is. Had one run where we got not a single spectral even though I had caught a couple of spectral.

got mine today with 55xx points, after 80% bonuses ended with 10168.

I stopped using Patience altogether. I used Chum if my GP was at max just so it was sitting at cap, aimed for conserving GP so that I could Double Hook 3 times during Spectral Currents with a Hi-Cordial.

Seems to be the real solution. Double Hook and its multiple fishes grants more points than HQ fish. People hook up to 90 fish that way. Can have three double hooks per special current window. You might get the 10% for 35 fish during special current on top of the one for 15. And your team has to focus to get the rare big fish of the zone for the extra completion 10%.
That is the only reason we need to switch baits tbh to catch all 10 different fish of an area.

It would be nice if spectral currents weren't so vague or the fish to trigger them weren't so random. The first time I went I saw all 3 spectral currents, but I only ended with about ~6000 points because I hadn't done it before and I was rusty with fishing. Ever since then I'd be lucky to see it once, and I always end up in the top 3-4 players on the ship and I'm not sure what else I can do to make it go better.

It really doesn't help that the last time I went the party leader gave up halfway through the last spot. We weren't doing well anyway, but they just fully left and screwed the rest of us. There should definitely be a lockout if you join a voyage and then leave early to try to get in to another one. Maybe it would stop people from jumping ship because they're not getting what they want.

Yes it would be nice if less RNG is involved because its really demotivating to finally get a spectral fish and to not start a rainbow at all. Especially if you already had one and only needed another to finally get the mount..The problem with the lockout is, that people could then simply go afk on board and the result is the same.

I also dont know why they stopp us from fishing around the 0.30 mark..why not let it go down to 0 and after that start a one minute time where people either can relax, talk, repair or buy more bait..

There are even fish where you need more than 30s for them to bite or you can only reel in when its at 0s or not at all, but then you already start loading into another zone, it feels like it needs to be increased.

If you have fishing results from players enabled in chatlog, you actually see a lot of captured spectral fishes, I would say sometimes people catch around 30 or more of them and it doesn't trigger. Would be nice to have a max value that triggers it besides the certain % chance.

Yeah maybe just having a new one minute timer afterwards would help so even if you start at 0.1 seconds you can still catch it and everyone else can use that time to repair, sell or talk. Just a bit of relaxing time before the next phase beginns.

True and we had someone in our group that captures like three spectral fishes in HQ and got no phase. It really would be great to know the percentage that such a catch brings. Or maybe its not about a percentage, maybe you need x amount of spectral fish.

Also I finally got my mount. Two spectrals and a few HQ fishes got me around 6k, but even with the big bonus, I barely managed it. Finally I am free of this for a while (until I want to catch them all).

I do, she says the voyage is already full - but there's a message to check back in a few minutes. With a Raubahn's Wall level crowd gathered around, it's easy to see the next 24 spaces will fill is milliseconds, so I say 'screw this' & leave.

Then guildmates tell me you don't have to speak at all to anyone to go? Huh?

She opens up at the appointed time, not a second sooner. If you are talking to her before the time the ship opens you cannot get on. Wait until the hour turns and a ! will pop up on her head, which you can still plainly see even if a hundred people are all crammed in there. That is when you can board the ship, not before. They need to change that too-early message to something else because it seems it is really confusing a lot of people into thinking they can't do the content because it's full. It's never full.

Is that not explained at the NPC? I do remember that there is a lot of text that explains how it all works.

Anyway I got my shark and I realized how horrible the flight animation looks. If I stand still my character just lies on him. But as soon as I start she lifts her legs and her upper body..it looks completely off and annoys me..so many hours, stress and praying for luck, only to get a mount with generic music that has a horrible animation for it..

Managed to get Jellyfish Fanatic before I got my shark mount lol

There's more than once instance, this seems to be a common misconception.
24 people per instance, everyones getting on board. This isn't a situation where only 24 people of hundreds are going to get something.

What was your approach to that? Now that I've got the mount I want to try and get those achievements but it just seems impossible without a very specific pre-made group of maxed out fishers who are all on the same page on what needs done, and even then you need ALOT of jellyfish, even with 8 people going at it.

That's right. Patience is for leveling as it grants great xp. But for points it's best to not use it at all. You make it or break it mostly by the number of fish you can catch during spectral shift, so Patience just steals away your GP for Double Hook which seems the most important action.

hey yo Yoshi-P add more fish we need at least 145 species

I'm really not seeing the mathematical possibility of this mount as anything but a lottery ticket win. I've been fishing my fingers off, & have yet to break even 6k. It's to the point I just quit out of the game after only getting 571 points on the entire 1st stop of a journey.

Could this be relabeled as something other than an 'achievement'? Because I fail to see how having the Great Gods of RNG rain down upon you is any sort of 'achievement'. 'Got whacked upside the head by dumb luck,' more like?

I've read the guides, I'm using the right baits for the right areas, I'm level 80 in good gear (not yet 460, but just the step below), I use food for a bit of extra GP, & I save my GP for spectral currents - which, btw, rarely happen at all (even when I've caught spectral fish & had people in my party say that had as well) & even when they do only get me maybe 1-1.5k. Multiple that by 3 stops, throw in a bit extra - maybe someday I'll break 5k before bonus? &... the best bonus is 50%, so... yeah. The math is seriously wonky on this. Effing RNG BS - not 'achievement'.

the highest i’ve gotten (with bonus) was 9.8k, which was more dumb luck than anything else because i managed to double hook 3 funnel sharks and then catch an additional 2. it would have been 10k if the bonus was 70% instead of 60% (only got 2 rainbow procs)

Should have been Sastasha's theme. Alternatively, Sastasha 2020. For the mount music.
