What if they gave like 5 of the current tomestone for gold completion at level cap?
JUST A THOUGHT, I still need to cap for the week because I'm lazy and I don't really feel like spamming dungeons at the moment.

fates were never meant for that. don't be lazy.
I would be fine with this. It wouldn't be too different from expert dungeons in tomes/minute unless you have a good FATE party, but it would be a nice extra option, especially when you only need a few more for the week. And since there's a weekly cap on the tomes anyway, it's not like it would cause any major balance issues.
just do hunting or treasure maps to get tomes in overworld and 5 for 1 fate it way too much anyway.
The participation on FATEs seems kinda wonky... to have the cap be obtainable only through FATEs might cause some efficiency issues but maybe if they added tomes as a reward to the weekly FATE Challenges they could be supplemental content for weekly cap.
Join a hunt discord. You get a 120 tomes really fast last afternoon/evening with 12/12 Shb hunt trains. They ping if you request it with trains on the various servers. I have it set for trains, S ranks and boss fates. I'm doing less and less dungeons with my alts given the trains are so fast. They also give a ton of Goetia and Nuts.
120 Phanta
240 Goetia
480 Nuts
Eh, nuts don't do anything for me.
I was mostly thinking it would be nice to mindlessly spam something while watching a show or movie and still make some weekly progress.
I think peak hours are passed my bed time :(
It might be reasonable to reward tomestones if you do it enough, but 5 tomestones is way too high.
That would mean that 20 fates gives 100 tomestones, which is about what you get for doing a combined leveling roulette, expert roulette, and main scenario roulette. You can burn through 20 fates extremely fast, even in max-level zones like The Tempest.
Making it more like 1 tomestone for a fate is much more reasonable.
It definitely does feel like the reward for FATEs is a little lacking, and I'm not really sure the Shared FATE system really did anything to fix the problem as it is. Maybe if the vendors opened up by higher shared FATE ranks had more meaningful items. Still, I can understand that it must be difficult to balance. If they make FATEs too rewarding then everyone would do nothing but FATE train and that wouldn't be good for any of the content that's not FATEs which just ends up shifting the problem.
Except people would not just do one fate and call it quits. They would spam them. The little insignificant single-digit number would add up really fast. You don't want to challenge the in-place incentives to run actual dungeons and roulettes for tomestones. Other sources are supposed to be additional 'trickle' sources and nothing more.
Just to take note here, it takes 396 fates to rank 3 cap all of the ShB zones.
Are you saying it should take more fates to weekly cap doing this method than it does to completely finish capping all the fate zone levels (which was meant to be content to keep fates from dying which, surprise, people stopped doing once they capped it.)
What they should really do is add a few tomes/scrips to the exp granting challenge logs at max level. Gives capped out people a reason to care about them and makes everyone else feel less bad about accidentally completing one on a level 80.
I have had a few ideas concerning FATE's for awhile, none too original, but possibly beneficial to the overall system. However i hate stating new threads so... meh.
FATE scaling due to inactivity/ area Boss FATE's: The premise is simple, if a certain number of FATE's are failed in any given area, FATE's progressively get harder in that given area, if FATE's are done with certain objectives completed the chance of A boss FATE being summoned is increased.
Boss FATE rewards: Galmour is the true end game, why more FATE's don't hand out more glamour items is beyond me. There would be much more participation in any given FATE if progression is made to the acquiring a glamour set themed for a given area. Same goes for barding. No reason not to add a few options for our feathered friends. Should an area progress to the point where boss FATE's are spawning, why not hand out smaller tome rewards for high level players? FATE's should be prioritized to gain the most player attention.
As stated before neither of these ideas are original, some are already used in game, the issue is that they are not used in ARR areas and only partially in 3.0/ 4.0 respectively. Retro actively fixing this should be a priority, as it would give a much needed impression of a certain amount of activity in terms of player interactions in the greater living world. Something very important to mmo's, particularly for newer players.
Nerp. If FATES were an option, it would be the main source of acquiring these tomes and there would be no point using them to give incentive to run older instances. People would complain about tying yet more rewards to FATES and then do them anyway.
This is entirely optional, so if you don't like the acquisition method then don't do it.
Stil, in the vein of thought with this topic, I'd like FATES to have a bit more of something to them.
Maybe while the Moogle thing is happening, you get one or two of those Tomestones when you finish gold in a FATE? That's a fun way to get them and do something while waiting for the DF to pop as a DPS lolz
It makes sense to at least update the challenge logs to give some other currency in place of EXP rewards. There's little incentive for anyone at cap to do something that rewards EXP. Granted, there are debates about some of the currency being trivial, but right now as it stands, run all the roulettes for 2 days and you meet your weekly cap. So weekly tomes' value is already restricted by "450" a week, regardless of what you do, and any claim of flooding for things like the uncapped tomestones is moot since those floods last a few days at best.
As a completely different sidenote, I'd rather see them retcon the shared fate system to old areas for other materials to farm and not just use retainers.
Pixie beast tribe quests.
Zonureskin treasure maps.
Shadowbringers A and S ranks.
I really don't see them adding the current tomestone as a reward to FATEs in lieu of XP considering how easy they are to farm. I could almost see them adding Goetia but that would mean updating every FATE every time a new tomestone was released.
Is not too much. As much as i have loved and still love this game for the 6 or so years i have been playing other games out there (Tera, etc..) you get far better rewards for even just playing.
Adding tomes would at the very least keep areas somewhat still occupied? lol. Not saying Shadowbringer areas are completely dead yet however.
Either way the fates need a revamp, i think adding the currency for doing fates that you can purchase items in each area was a good start.
Two of those require a handful of people, and are not something you can just zone out and spend time grinding.
This is another thing I am aiming for: keeping the zones alive. Also yes, when the shared FATE system came out I was of the same mind that it was a step in the right direction. Still needed work, but a solid start.
90 FATEs? Eesh, I didn't even do the math. Average that out to what, 5 minutes per FATE?
That's definitely way more time spent doing FATEs than any other content to get tomestones if you just went strictly that route.
it's more like 2 minutes per level 80 fate and it' much faster if there is a fate train going on, they just melt instantly.
i think its a good idea as a replacement for EXP
like all my DoW/M are capped out and if they add more ranks to shared fates feel like a waste of exp
I have a hard time with the crowd that says it's okay for FATEs to become irrelevant after you have reached a certain point. It would be great if there was some form of incentive to do them at level cap. It doesn't have to be anything huge, but just enough to make doing the FATEs not a complete waste of time at cap. A few tomestones. A higher gil reward. Hell, maybe another rank in the system where all of the fate vendor items just cost less after you hit it, which would make the purchases of materia and crafting mats more worthwhile because you get more for your time spent.
Either way, I feel like implementing the shared FATE system and then letting the FATEs fall by the wayside is a terrible practice, and I hope something is announced soon.
Same. When I returned and did ShB, people had already stopped doing fates, apart from those near pixies dailies. So basically I have barely done any in the other areas because there's only so much FATE soloing I can stand (it takes too long compared to rewards). I miss the times when FATEs where relevant.
remember how doing fates was for relic? how FUN THAT WAS? no. no one thought that was fun. especially when Seps didn't show up for like an hour.
And yet people still did them.
And did them for their HW relic.
And did them for the shared FATE rewards.
The problem they always seem to be a one and done deal. You got your thing, that's it, you're done. There is no added value. There is no reason to go back and do it more. There is no incentive to a level capped person to go back and FATE at all.
People already dodge roulettes like the plague, myself included. If I'm seen in an expert that means my portal luck was TERRIBLE.
I also like how you say it'd make tomes "too easy to get" as if there's an actual difficulty to getting tomes. The hardest part for getting my weekly tomes is literally "Did we get portals and doors?" and "Does my expert not suck?" neither of which is difficulty by design, but by luck or just people not participating.
