Are there any waifu threads around here?

If not, we should start one. I would like to see who the most popular waifu is. Perhaps someone could direct me to a poll?

When running a survey for stuff for my FC I threw in some joke questions like "who should I get a waifu pillow of?". It was a draw between Doctor Robotnik, Lyse and Merlwyb.

And out of curiosity I found a Doctor Robotnik waifu pillow, but it was $65 and seems a bit much to pay for a dumb joke.

Y'shtola has always been and will always be my waifu. Yes, I've reached that point in the Rak'Tika Greatwood story, and nothing has changed.

Nevermind, false alarm, for those of you who made it that far in the story.

This thread made me realize that I don’t find any of the female FF14 characters attractive, or waifu material, so to say.

Maybe Sadu or Merlwyb, as I’m not into cutesy wutsy/shy/submissive women and and those two don’t have even the slightest inkling of those traits. Only problems are is Sadu is fcking insane (please don’t ban me again), and Merlwyb is essentially a pirate queen running a glorified den of pirates, so I’m not sure how much better she is than Sadu really.

Been there; done that. I was banned for calling someone a little b---- because they were complaining about something or another (probably said the f-word in there somewhere too). I think it had something to do with a player being called a pedophile for playing a Lalafell. Their feelings were hurt and I called them out for being a thin skinned punk. I'm pretty sure it was a female that started the thread, which would certainly explain why everyone was being so bloody sympathetic and encouraging her weakness. Long story short, the reply was deleted and I was banned for a few days.

At any rate, back on topic. I can see why you might call Sadu your waifu, as I like her character for the same reason, but she isn't my waifu. Honestly, I could never understand what people see in Merlwyb. I mean she's not bad, but my character started in Uldah so I never got to know her better.

I've searched Google and now feel like I'm the only person on this rock we call a planet that thinks Y'shtola waifu material. What is it about her that turns everyone off?

• Kan-E-Senna is a Padjal and implied to be older than she appears, possibly older than any of the main cast. We also don't see really see her in a personable light, only as the speaker for Gridania. (Missed opportunities to see her as a big sister to Raya and A-Ruhn).
• Merlwyb's hat is that she is a badass pirate admiral. And that's it. We don't see her in any other light.

If you're into husbandos, however, FFXIV has you covered. You got brooding bad boy Thancred, the personable Aymeric, confident and charismatic Hien, and your pick between two handsome silver foxes: Raubahn and Gosetsu.

The one true waifu is the WoL herself.

Looking at FFXIV in general and fan impressions, while more people play female characters, there are more noteworthy husbando than waifu. You have fans of characters like Y'shtola or less extent Merlwyb; I am big on Mom-E-Senna myself, though really the characters getting fanart, crushes, etc. are your Crystal Exarch, Emet-Selch, Haurchefant, Aymeric, etc. Even a mid-tier daddy like Thancred has more people frothing for him more than a lot of the major female characters.

As someone who is bisexual I'll take all of them.

Like someone said, the game sadly doesn't have many female characters you get close enough to. Y'shtola could be one on Thancred level, but both aren't very close.
Hilda is a good mention. I guess I had a thing for Tsuyu but that's also not very personal and we all know how that ended. Ysayle maybe? I'm just realizing the good female ones don't last. :/

For males, there's indeed a long list. My favourites were always Aymeric and Hien, but now Ardbert surpassed them a lot.

And...Khloe really? That's a marriage life of eating pinapple pudding, and not even every day. :P

Why? It only makes as this is a japanese game.. which has a very anime plotline. If anything tho I see more people gush about the guys in this game then any of the women. If I had to pick one tho.. Lyse all the way. She has the best jacket in the game and a pony tail. Pony tails are there for mass pulls. It also helps I play with Japanese voices on so Lyse doesn't get on my nerves.

Y'shtola is basically the hardest heroine in a gal game. Most of your first picked choices that seem nice will be the wrong ones. She's the one who will also disapprove of most of your actions. In fact, while some of your actions will please most of the ladies simultaneously, she'll definitely be the one to get greatly displeased points. And even, if by some chance you get somewhere, you'll be tasked with the hardest thing to do, usually within an extremely small time window to get it. Oh sure, after all these trials and tribulations, you might get rewarded with the most... passionate of endings, complete with a kekkon scene, so to speak-cough- but you'll be left wondering if it was all worth it.

I think the biggest reason folks have trouble picking out Waifus from FFXIV, is that most of the prominent female characters are WOMEN, rather than GIRLS. The HUGE majority of popular Waifus on the 'net fall into the age range of 14-18 (or, at least, are physically 14-18). About the only major character with proper Waifu qualifications in this game is Allisae. In addition to being a proper Waifu level of physical maturity, she even has a classic Tsundere progression, being all Tsun-Tsun at the start and working her way to Dere-Dere later on.

Husbandos, on the other hand, typically tend to be mature types, so the men presented in this game are much easier to categorize that way.

(On the topic of the Waifu-quality of Y'shtola - she's pretty much indifferent at most times, but if you're unfortunate enough to draw her attention, she's all Tsun. Just ask Little Sun. :P)

I always found it odd how the beauty standards of animated toons differ from reality. I was told Mulan & Chun-Li would be considered fat. To each its' own.

I do understand why people love Ysthola (good looking, snarky woman) but for me she is not that great.
