I fell sorry for PLD's...

No, Really!
cant say I've payed much attention to PLD since i despise tanking, but id rather be a backup tank/DD than a main tank... I personally think that the problem is mostly with the stats for MRD's wep attack, stuff a paladin would NEED to tank properly, if they changed pld's wep attack to something like say...
DEX + VIT for Example, off the top of my head, it would be better tanking stats and pld may actually put those stats into effect rather than being either a good DD or a weak attacking brick crap house...

WAR Att+ stats: STR/VIT
PLD Att+ Stats: Str/MND

WAR can beef up its str/vit depending to be a DD and a Tank
PLD Needs to add VIT to itself and therefore can EITHER be a DD OR a Tank
thats what i get from looking at stats and actually playing them a bit, my inexperience with PLD is made up for the fact I never tanked on WAR until 45+

Someone give me a VALID reason as to why I'm wrong before trying to blurt out how HP is more important to tanking, Especially since a PLD hasn't been able to steal hate from me since i started tanking on WAR, I don't need collusion, I don't need Provoke/flash, I just hit stuff alot.

PLD needs some DEF and HP boost ><

either pld need more defense or they need to lower war defense

yea few of my war mate def is always around mine even with me pure buffed up in full sent which should be cause as far as i've always know PLD they had higher HP than war's Gd little bit more DEF donno what way ffxiv is taking PLD but it's doesnt seem to be the way of a main tank no more.

i dont think its so much a Defense problem as it is Emnity, hell, haven't met a tank that can keep hate off me yet when i go full tilt on any class/job

(Before anyone starts... yes, its hate not threat, Threat is a potential danger, hate is how much they wanna kill you)

PLD just needs a very solid DEF boost imo. I do not know why SE didn't implement job specific traits when they should have to define jobs even further. And SirThesd tanks aren't supposed to be able to keep hate on any DPS when they go all out at the initial engagement of battle because the DPS is supposed to wait until hate is established to go all out.

I know they arent, but even if i give them a head start and getting hate, i go full tilt for like 5 secconds and wham! its eyes on me!

Yes, PLD needs buffing, but WAR does not need nerfing. Period.

Anyone can nerf a job/class, but balancing and buffing is the healthy route.

yup pld is pain weak and war is just wow the end

As an advocate for the PLD front, let me say I do NOT want to see WAR nerfed. There's no reason for it. And nerfing it to make PLD more viable would be a cop out by the dev team.

It's not always healthy to endlessly chase balance by only buffing. It leads to power creep. I don't necessarily think that nerfs are needed now, but sometimes it's actually appropriate.

wow, people still think PLD is broke? is that because you dont know how to Play PLD or simply because you dont understand the purpose of a tank ? All I have read in this forum is PLD bashing from people who obvously have never played the job long enough to know what the hell they are talking about.... as far as the DEVs copping out , give it a rest. Only people to blame for the reduction of HP on war are the crybabies in the forums ( >.> ) Not that I care mind you. The more you people talk out your asses the more you make PLD op over WAR soo continue , please, just thought I would inform everyone that PLD is not broke and all this bashing is comming from ignorance not experiance :D

It's not a question of Paladin being broken or not, it's a question of maximizing effectiveness and party cohesion.

Can Paladin tank anything in this game competently? Absolutely, however, Warrior can accomplish that too, and often times in such a way that the enemy dies at an expedited rate, which is typically the best route with Square's new penchant for time restricted endgame content.

They had this same problem for years between Paladin and Ninja in XI. Paladin could keep hate on themselves for days, but it was a moot point when Ninja took little to no damage, and with certain other jobs assisting them, could maintain enmity perfectly fine.

Emnity>HP all I'm saying, considering WAR gets the stats to boost wep attack AND get hp/def compared to a PLD's STR/MND. was I not clear enough in my original post?

WAR AF isn't so good either.

In fact, so far the only AF sets I've found that stand out so far are BRD and WHM.

I have no parses yet to post , till i get them sent to me , this is what i found when testing def on 58 mobs (sphene doblyns)


WAR ifrit's axe
cobalt gear: 644def 96 dmg 282vit (291 avg dmg taken) 3664 hp

AF gear : 586def 292vit (334 avg dmg taken) 3688 hp

058def 96/58=1.66 dmg per def added


PLD no shield
cobalt gear: 656def 292vit (286 avg dmg taken) 3167 hp

AF gear: 604def 278vit (312 avg dmg taken) 2937 hp

PLD with shield
cobalt gear: 695def 292vit (262 avg dmg taken) 3167 hp

cobalt gear: 695def 315vit (248 avg dmg taken) 3190 hp (with a vit+ cobalt winglet.)

tests were done with no jewlry added. I do recomend def materia melded over vit simply because you can add 36 vit on hq rings alone, then you can add vit to legs and the sword , wich leaves only two spots in wich to add def. I recomend to keep the ratio 1 vit for every 2 def. dmg deflected overtime is a MUCH higher payoff over HP materia added. That being said, anytime you anticipate a quick and fairly painless fight, WAR is a better option simply for its ability to add to the dps, but if damage taken or keeping the tank alive for any duration past a 5 minute fight, I would go with a PLD tank as the safest route.

Explains why I'm higher HP than all the PLD's I know, though I dont see any reference to Emnity at all, +Damage = +Emnity fair enough, but thats what I've been trying to get at for god knows how long now.

PLD just need to be able to hold hate, I barely have to do anything on my WAR and I'm blinking red. I've always wanted my MRD/WAR to be a DD; but now I seem to be tanking most of the time. Maybe this is why they're bumping the enmity + and - materia stats in the next patch, hopefully that will sort things out.
