As most of us are painfully aware, trying to obtain a house either for personal use or FC use is next to impossible on high population servers such as Gilgamesh, Balmung and Mateus.
The wards that have been added were full within minutes on those servers and they will be filled again (Within minutes) come the release of 5.1. It's long overdue that we get a more reliable answer to the housing problem on those servers.
Of course we can argue the finer points but I think we all agree that it would be nice for new FC's to have a chance at housing and for solitary players to also have a chance. There have been many suggestions made ranging from FC only wards, to adding in limitless instanced wards for those who don't mind instanced housing.
Whatever the case may be, we KNOW that SE can add more wards whenever they so choose. It's been very clearly stated that it isn't an issue. So why are wards being added so slowly? With what, 14+ million subscribers there shouldn't possibly be a funding issue if it's a matter of server space allocation/server load.
I for one feel that it's high time we receive regular ward expansions (And by regular, I mean every single update if necessary.)
Or we add instanced housing wards for those of us who don't care that we have instanced housing. I think the Devs would find most of us just don't care - as most MMORPG housing IS instanced in every other game. We're already used to instanced housing and it WORKED.
Do you have other ideas to solve the problem? Should players who own more than one personal house per server be forced to just pick ONE and receive a refund on the default purchase price on the others to free up space? Considering some players own ENTIRE WARDS of housing?
We need to come up with solutions because new FCs only have 1-2 chances per EXPANSION to try and get a house for themselves and it just isn't fair, nor does it feel good.

Housing isnt a huge issue on the JP servers, so they dont see it as a big enough issue.
They like to combine that with forgetting the JP playerbase is smaller and has 25% more housing than NA has. -

Also a long while back Devs mentioned that they're trying to figure out a way to improve apartments, larger versions and such, think once they do we'll see less housing issues as apartment should basically end up as "personal homes." -

As someone who was on Balmung during the last time they added new wards I can tell you that the only thing that was filled within minutes ((And I mean like 15-30 minutes)) were the Mediums and Larges. I had no issue upgrading my small to a medium during that in one of the new wards and that was 20 minutes after the servers went live. Hell in the older Wards they lasted even longer, we were seeing mediums in the Goblet hours after the new wards went live. Then there was the fact that most of the new wards were then empty beyond belief since no one was really buying smalls at all. It wasn't until they lifted the restriction on personal house purchases that they filled up.Quote:

It doesn't matter if they're gobbled all up by FC's, or gobbled up by a combination of FCs and Individuals: There's still many FCs that are homeless and can only buy a house during the RARE ward expansions like this one and there are PLENTY of individuals who would love a private home and can't get one because they scarcely come open.Quote:

They will only add wards and zones for about 30% of the server populations to get housing. That's what they're doing this time as well. This hasn't changed in the past 4+ years, and I don't see it changing in the future. It's a good design imo, it's just that the current plackard clicking is a stupid mechanic that needs to be changed.
