Fatal DirectX Error 11000002 (Laptop)

Okay I need to report a problem on my problem with the DirectX error I'm having, and I really want this problem to be solved. I've been having the same DirectX error (11000002) problem during Stormblood. And now I'm still having the same problem during Stormblood. For now it's set to DirectX 9 but whenever I go to a huge party like ranked enemy parties, the game freezes and kicks me out.

I tried other solutions from other people with the same problem. Compatibility mode, FPS limit, and it still gives me the same problem.

Here's my system information in hoping someone can find a solution. However I'm using a gaming laptop, not a desktop.

I'm not sure if you tried this as I was having this same issue with artifacting.

Install DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) which not only uninstalls your display drivers but also all the trash files and folders and registries along with it.
-You can literally Google "DDU" and it will be in Guru3D.
It was recommend to run this in safemode without internet connection so nothing gets interferred while using this.
When you run the application you are given a one click option to remove everything (this will include GeForce Experience)
Your computer will automatically restart after the process finishes

After your computer restarts you can reinstall GeForce Experience and then reinstall your driver.

This cleared up so many issues without me having to underclock my GPU or doing anything fancy.

I'll have to give the DDU a shot. But first I must watch a video of how it works.

It's pretty straight forward. They made it super easy to understand since you don't really "install" anything rather it's a application that just opens after you download it.

Alright I did a DDU, hoping it won't give me a DirectX error (11000002). If it gives me the same error, I'll update the status.

Did you used to have the same DirectX problem?

I did, except I had artifacting occur and all my windows turn white and my screen would turn black so I think my hardware is also dying too. But any case, I'm not having much problem myself after DDU.

This has been going on for months now > the Mods here will give you the same response they have been giving for months. Everyone is trying everything under the sun from the newest systems to the oldest. Its a game issue period. I did everything and finally did DDU and installed Nvidia drivers from just before Shadowbringers launch. Some days I can go for a few hours with no problem other days like today every 20 mins. Seems to happen the most when the server-load it high and I'm not really doing much now. It has something to do with FFXIV not being completely compatible with the newer GPU drivers.

Area51 answer: SE is working with Nvidia to make us think we need new machines and people go out and buy new machines or GPU's since new video cards and the like have recently been released much like cell phones when they send you that needed update and magically you phone stops working.

Hi Dynratygus. Apologies for the delay.

I've first experienced the problem during Stormblood, I think during 4.3. I don't have a problem when I switch DirectX 11 off, but the framerate gets slow and when I join a huge group such as Eureka and hunts, the framerate freezes and crashes the game.

For now I'm doing okay and so far I'm not experiencing any DirectX errors (11000002) thanks to J-Sharpie's advice. But if you have a list of helpful advices for laptops with DirectX error problems, please let me know.

I am happy to hear that you are no long experiencing crashes. If the crash happens again, please try any of the following:

-Switch to DirectX 9 mode (select ‘Config’ from the launcher)
-Update/reinstall Graphics card drivers
-Disable all programs/overlays running in the background
-Perform a clean boot*
-Set compatibility mode to Windows 7**
-Make sure that any anti-virus software they have has the appropriate exceptions
-Install game on C drive (The same drive as the Operating System)

*To perform a clean boot for Windows 10: Open the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC.


**To change compatibility mode, right click on the exe file (Default location: C:\Program Files (x86)\SquareEnix\Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn\boot\ffxivboot.exe), right click it and select ‘Properties.’ Select the ‘Compatibility’ tab and select Windows 7.

UPDATE: I'm just playing FFXIV and I got the same DirectX Error (11000002) problem again. Not one, not twice, but three times just now. The only solution that works is switching to DirectX 9c. But the problem is that whenever I'm in a huge group (like hunt groups), it freezes the frame rate and it kicks me out.

I heard about people underclocking but I don't want to screw up my laptop's driver, unless if there's a professional I can talk to.

I'm getting the Directx 11000002 error as well. Game was working flawlessly, until I upgraded to RX5700 XT. Then the issues started. Sometimes it crashes 15 minutes into the game, sometimes it's instantly after the I login and spawn, other times I can play for hours without a single issue.

I've tried the 5700XT on my old i7 3770K system, as well as my new Ryzen 3900X system and FFXIV crashes randomly on both. I just built the Ryzen PC and has 100% fresh drivers, so please don't ask me to DDU it. This is the only game that's crashing for me right now and I can run 3DMark and Superposition Benchmark without a hitch. This is not a budget PC.

I only started playing a few months ago. My renewal is in 3 days... not sure it's worth the hassle to continue until this bug is fixed. Still debating it.

In the meantime I'm going to try shutting down my Discord and see if it makes a difference with stability. Trial and error, right?

Greetings! I am having this same issue, the game will crash and I will get a Fatal Directx 11000002 error.

I am playing on a desktop, I have a 970 GTX, i5 processor, etc. (though I think computer spec doesn't matter here as it seems to be happening to people of all kinds).

This error does happen more in some places than others. I've also been having it for a couple of months now, so I've noticed it happens more in some places than others.

Praetorium: I will be fine for the first half or so of Praetorium, then when we get to the Nero cut scenes, my game begins crashing once every 3-5 minutes. Both in cut scenes and out of cut scenes. It makes finishing Praetorium super annoying to continuously have to log in again and again, but I do eventually get it done. I have had no crashing problems with the first half of praetorium ever.

24 man Raids: I barely crash at all in raids. It is incredibly rare if I do. The 24 man doesn't seem to be burdening the display driver more than Praetorium's 8 man.

Eden (normal): I tend to crash 2-3 times on Eden 1, and 0-1 times on the other Eden fights.

Hunt trains: I have NEVER crashed on a hunt train, even with 70+ people around me. It just simply hasn't happened on a hunt train, so player density doesn't seem to be the issue.

Leveling dungeons: I will get occassional crashes in leveling dungeons, but maybe 0-1 times per dungeon average. The exception is TEMPLE OF THE FIST, where throughout the entire dungeon I was crashing every 3-5 minutes.

Free company workshop: About half the time I bring airships back from their voyage, I will hit complete their voyage, hear the loot go into my inventory right as the game freezes and crashes. It seems to only happen with airships and not submarines.

For fixing this issue, I've tried just about everything under the sun. Clean installs. Clean configuration (rebuilding my UI and bars). Disabling overlays like reshade and discord voice chat overlays. Playing doctor and performing surgery on my registry. My friends have suggested so many things and I've tried every single one of them. The issue persists. I kind of want to do Eden savage, but the crashing issue in the Eden raids makes that impossible.

Liathen, could you create your own thread and provide a system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

I would like to request to close this thread as I found my solution that no longer gives me a DirectX Error 11000002.

For Alienware laptop users with a 17 series (R1, R2, R3, R4, etc.), an Alienware Graphics Amplifier with a really strong graphics driver (like a Titan X) helps a lot. I haven't gotten any crashes ever since.
