Curaja is so ugly and isnt Curaga supposed to be AoE only?
also for THM:
Sacrifice, Sacrifira? Sacrifiga! Sacrifija... hooooo
Cure, Cure II, Cura, Cura II, Cura III, Curagajagahagahagajaha
Curaga was only exclusively AoE in XI. Due to the system they had in place, they decided to use their normal spell naming system to differentiate between AoE and Single Target. As a Result instead of Cure, Cura, Curaga, Curaja, Curasa, you got Cure, Cure II, Cure III, Curaga, Curaga II.
Personally, I'm in favor of the renaming of the spells since we can toggle AoE on and off. There's no need to use the traditional tags to separate Single and Area in this game. And personally, I think Sacrifija sounds awesome. Also, my favorite spell of all time to say was Banishga. It's just fun. Needs more Scourgra and Scourgaga.
Curaja is also known as Cure 4 in the original final fantasy.
I think Scourgera and Scourgega might be more applicable when it comes to trying to pronounce those... Although Scourgega sounds like some sort of horrible gum disease or STD...
this is actually a good point, i would prefer Cure > Cura > Curaga > Curaja. Because i can actually imagine npcs referring to them this way, rather than with numbers.
I've always liked the -gas and -agagas and -ajawajjas, they're a bit more creative than I, II, III and so on.
Hadn't really thought about it but nixing the II and III for (quoting Tessa) "Cure > Cura > Curaga > Curaja" would be okay with me.
So what about melee. PUG have Second Wind and Second Wind II. I don't want Second Windga. In game all names must be given by same rules. If you rename Cure II in Curaga you must rename Second Wind II in Second Windga.
Second Windga would be hilarious!
I think the II versions of a melee skill should flat out replace it(that's how a certain other MMO does it...); I don't see a point in needing to use Second Wind I if I have Second Windga, but of course, there are those who do, so I imagine the "upgrade-replaces-old system" would have to allow you to set the old skill to your bar also. Maybe it could just have a different icon?
lol agreed Windga...bahahahha!
And Enrei raises a good point, tier II spells share the time cooldown timers and there is no need to differentiate since the better should always be used. The only time it wouldn't would be cross-class use shooting for 'optimal rank'.
I imagine some code-monkey magic over at SE could enable the tier II(henceforth known as Windga abilities) abilties to automatically scale down to the Wind level ability, an then apply any rank problems from there. Or have a little scroll wheel/arrow next to the Windga ability, which would allow you to scroll down to the Wind rank, or up into the Windaja ranks(if we get TIII that is!)
Second windga made me laugh,bravo.
There's a difference between Spells and Abilities. So you could have Fira and Second Wind II. You don't always have to keep all these crazy naming rules the same across the board. After all, Jecht had the "Sublimely Magnificent Jecht Shot Mark III" (AKA the Jecht Shot) and Tidus learned Jecht Shot II, but the magic in X followed traditional naming rules like Haste and Hastaga.
As for replacing old skills, in the field of abilities I have to agree. I'm not gonna ever use Skull Sunder again when Skull Sunder II does the same stuff place can incapacitate. The only way I could really see a need to keep the old skills is if they add some NMs that get more brutal after they get incapacitated. In other words, you'd need a skill that didn't incapacitate'em.
Instead of Second Windga they could just rename them the same way they rename the regular attacks, Like light < heavy (Swing, Stab, Thrust etc...)
I guess the "What's in a name?" argument could be made but I'm in favor of a renaming
Why couldn't Second Wind become "Endorphin Rush" or "Re-Energize" or if you want to stick with a similar naming convention You could call the first one "second breath" and the upgraded one "Second Wind"
windga hahahahaha, i like cura and curaga, but we must think in windga and windra, and... oh fuck that xD, i preffer I, II, III and IV lol
I like numbers just fine. No thanks.
.__.
^Poker face. Lady Scourgaga approved. True story.
In all seriousness, I think that renaming the magic in the game is one of those super easy little things that SE can do to make 14 feel more like a Final Fantasy game. For the people who don't know FF games of the past, it wouldn't matter. For those of us that do, its a little nod to what we know. Sure it doesn't mean too much in and of itself, but a lot of little changes like that can add up fast to make the game "Feel" better.
Can't help but point out that it would probably be Windaga, not Windga. Wind, Windara, Windaga. Which makes me think of Wendigos.
the -ra, -ga, -ja is a japanese thing not just an SE thing
Do you have other examples?
I consider myself well versed in the ways of JRPGs and Anime(read: I'm a weeaboo), and I've never run across another series using -ragajalala, unless they are clearly referencing Final Fantasy(Welcome to the NHK! did a small arc about FFXI, for example)
Isnt those name Cura, Curaga and so on came from FFVIII? if i remember that correctly.. :D
