Request: When you start casting, make it stop character movement and autoface the mob

It used to be this way ...

I don't know why they took it out. You can keep it so that moving cancels the spell but getting that "You can't cast while moving" message, or having to stop and wait on the server delay is unnerving.

So yes. Please make it so that when you press a spell whilst running the character stops and turns to the mob.

(I know about the face mob button, but I use a gamepad yo! Still seems silly for it to exist..)

this would have been a very simple solution to the whole issue.

if you are running and cast a spell it stops you and faces the target it would work for both keyboard users and the controller crowd. if you keep running after you hit a spell it cancels it, but at least it would give the controller users a way to face target without having to use a macro as a work around of a bad game design.

This is in regards to the time it takes before being able to cast a spell after moving, which we have received a lot of feedback on. There are two reasons for this specification.

①The time it takes to communicate between the client and server

　　　⇒This can take up to 0.3 seconds for transferring packets, plus the response time.
　　　　As an online game, this is unavoidable. (In order to prevent cheating, we cannot use the client only)

②Inability to cast due to movement intertia after stopping

　　　⇒We have reduced this spec as much as possible while maintaining the quality of our graphics.
　　　　Similarly to when /facetarget is used, if we reduce the inertia period any more, we would have to remove it. Since inertia is mapped in the server, it is not possible to cast spells during this time.

　　　　With that said, my decision is:
　　　　“If /facetarget is not used, minimize the negative hit to graphics quality”
　　　　“If /facetarget is used, prioritize performance over graphics quality”
　　　
I believe that this is the limit to what we can accomplish before the 2.0 re-launch.

Of course we have considered forcefully stopping the movement of the character’s feet as soon as a spell is cast, but this would be too substantial of a change. Also, we plan on implementing spells that can be cast while moving in version 2.0, so we would like to avoid this idea. (It would also be very difficult to separate spells between those that can/cannot be cast while moving, but we have more time to spend on this issue.)

learn to play your job and you don't have that worry. i didn't get hit by them before when you were stuck in animations and this wouldn't be any different.

it could have just been a mode option not the entire game forced that way if you don't like the idea, but i can assure you it's an option i would have taken in a heartbeat. like it was stated if you kept moving after it started casting the spell it would cancel. it's just like the /facetarget, but that a controller user would not have to map a key using a 3rd person program or use a macro for a work around.

i see zero difference.
running >hit /facetarget(your character stops and turns) >start casting spell > move to cancel
running> start casting the spell > it stops and turns you around > move to cancel

both ways have the same number of actions needed to stop and attack a mob. the second option would work better for a controller user due to it would be completely based on keys already on the controller(no mapping/macros needed).

How come other MMO's don't have this issue with moving and casting ?

Is this autofaces thing and stopping before casting really that hard? I'm just wondering cuz I've had no trouble
I don't know of it's cuz I'm a controller user or what tho.
But you don't HAVE to autoface if that's the impression you get. I think autoface is just meant so you don't get back attacked while casting.

no what they are using /facetarget for is basically nothing more than a stop button. it sends info directly to the server that you are stopped moving and you can directly start casting a spell instead of having the delay while the server figures out your position. all we were asking for is that for a controller user to add a battle mode where we could turn off face target as a key press and make it to where the start of the spell would be a stop.

this method would have a button on the controller to send the info to the server so we get the same delay as keyboard users get. right now there is a difference in response times for a controller user to begin casting spells compared to a keyboard user that actually has a button they can hit to begin instantly.

edit: facetarget is not just turning and facing a target. it tells the server you have stopped moving so you can instantly begin spell casting. we are using facetarget as just the use it has not actually the turning towards the mob. it's just the ability to say you are stopped as soon as you hit it instead of the delay from running.

a keyboard user can be running and hit facetarget and they stop running and turn so they can start casting instantly whereas the controller user runs and stops and then has to wait for the server to register it.

If using a controller, I would make a /facetarget macro. It is not perfect it is better than nothing.

I dunno I dont seem to have a problem, I timed myself and usually by the time my control stick is back at center, which happens in the blink of an eye, I can cast a spell. The inertia doesn't specifically bother my casting, but I guess I'm just lucky.

it's not a horrible delay. it's only around a half second or so.

what happens though is like on the controller we have to stop and wait on the server to register we stopped. the keyboard users stop with the button and it instantly registers them. sure a half second may not seem like alot, but i've played some one my controller and with the keyboard and i've noticed the glitch where the spell doesn't go off and randomly stops as well as the timer bar not showing or the animation of casting not showing was not happening to me when using the keyboard.

sure only a half second. it's not long, but when the other glitches and missed animations add into the issue it becomes almost game breaking.

i know how to play my job. dont need any face target buttons or forced spellcasting to cast spells. :D

So you use the game pad? Time to learn to play again. Most of us have to relearn too, and everyone is going to have to relearn a lot of things in the future. Stop trying to keep the old game, It was broken. Just figure out how "to play your job and you don't have to worry." I had to learn to play with this new style of casting, so why after taking my time, do you get to be the lazy one and demand it to change back? I'm just saying, If you don't like this, its only going to get worst. You might as well stop playing all together. :confused:

Agree completely. I simply don't like having to stop running for over a second to be able to start casting.

You appear to be a programmer for Square Enix and working with the Crystal Tools, which is in-house to Square Enix only, can you tell me why the overseer and one who actually can work with the tools would be lying about the difficulty of something regarding an engine toolset that wasn't designed to run MMOs in the first place?

I'd rather hear your explanation, as one of their programmers, than the reasoning from the director and producer of the game.

Dude, its bad game design. You don't make players have to deal with server delay themselves by adding a position check button, you make the system do that. Its insulting to stop running and still get the error message.

The result of that due to server latency was an error message if you cast too quickly. What does quickly mean? Casting when you have already stopped running in your screen.

Do you not think its bad design to have players mentally calculate server latency when playing a game? To have to put cheap servers into their strategy?
If you are casting a spell and running away interrupts it, what's the point of allowing you to keep running?
If you are going to continue running, don't cast it. Simple as that.

I ask you, what scenario happens more often FFXIV being one with roaming parties and not camps? One in which you run, stop and cast or one in which you run, cast, decide against it and continue running hoping your spell won't go off?

Try and justify this as good design. Do try. I dare you.
Yoshi tried to do it by claiming some of future spells will be compatible with running. Yeah, okay. What does that have to do with anything? Seems simple enough to make some lock the player in the spot and others not to and differentiate these spells with an icon or whatever the team can think of.

they actually state you can keep moving stops casting spells in the op, but make it to where a controller user faces the target and stops running on cast. we do not have a button for /facetarget to instantly register we stopped when using a controller. it's nothing more than asking for a button that is mapped on the controller to do the same thing via starting a cast.

you do read this right? it states directly you can keep it so moving cancels spells in the same thing you just quoted AGAIN. it is asking for casting the spell for a controller user to have the same effect as /facetarget has for the keyboard users. if i need to break it down even further i will be glad to do so.

This cheating prevention thing is causing far more trouble than it's worth.

Like I said in an earlier thread, you're not so much discouraging cheaters as you are discouraging players.
Either switch to clientside servers, or find another option that doesn't get in our way SE. Frustrating your players is not worth it.

Generally when someone breaks down to grammar nazi they lost the argument. Yoshi gave a reason why they wont implement what you are asking for. We all want there to be no server latency but half a second isnt going to make or break your ability to use magic.

now that was removed and you get the annoying message "You can't cast while moving" and not sure why they took it out. if you made it to where casting stops you like it did originally you could let the moving cancels spells stay in since you would stop when you begin casting and then cancel once you move afterwards.

yes, there is a /facetarget button for the keyboard and i know about it, but i use a controller and the same option of that one button is not there for me.
