Machinist is prolly better then it ever has been or will ever be.

The Class has been transformed Possibly into imho the Most enjoyable experience the game has to offer, Honestly, i may not even bother levelling a Other Job, because Machinist feels that good.

I dont really know how SE intend to top this for Machinist gameplay, as tbh, its Pretty much perfection, i almost feel the SB Bards experience of being almost terrified to what could happen, Because i dont feel it could do any better.

SE Really has finally done justice by the Job :D Im just here to really say Thankyou for delievering on Machinist this amazingly ^.^

Im very aware, that Due to how Fast Machinist as become in Gameplay, has affected players with high pings, but the class was Not any for viable in high ping situations in Stormblood Either so i dont think its Nesseccary to change. I feel for those who Feel the class cannot cater them being on a higher ping. but i dont feel Completely removing a Playstyle from the game for that Sake is a Wrong move.

the game has Enough Jobs, and Enough Jobs which fill the Same Roles to offer both playstyles. those who have Ping issues have Bard and Dancer, which realistically Dancers only have a high burst OGCD phase every so often rather then repeatively and Bard has the lowest APM of the three in physical Ranged Role.

A small buff to Flamethrower would be nice so it doesn't feel that... lackluster. (ffs it's a flamethrower!!!)

In MCH's case, the biggest offender is that you can't get 6 full heat blasts in during overheat and/or you clip cooldown Gauss Round/Ricochet's cooldown if you sit on it. Both of these problems are fixable.

If you reduce the amount recharged OR increase the number of charges up, you can make it so you don't need to single weave during heat blast without removing the ability to single weave during heat blast. If you make it so overheat gives you a flat amount of charges allowing the use of heat blast, then you will always get a set amount of heat blasts out of it. Even 1 more second on overheat would do wonders even if high ping would never be optimal

Both of those would fix MCH's biggest problem right then and there with regards to ping, and since a solution is viable, things should be done to fix it. Either way I'm happy you enjoy the class, the class looks really good. It's just unplayable to me at a ping of 110.

Weaving OGCDS on a Reduced GCD through buffs will ALWAYS be problematic to those with high ping, and it'll Reduce the capability of optimisation reguardless, Lets not forget Machinist has ALWAYS been a job which has been unfriendly to high ping users, I understand that frustrating, but u must reliese ur Fixs reduce the Jobs APM... Bringing it closer to playing like Dancer Does entirely, Do we really want Machinist to once again be a Worse version of the other Ranged physical Jobs.

The Attraction to Machinist right now is how fast it is compared to its other 2 Options, Ranged physical Play so Similar in playstyle by nature realistically this shouldn't be a issue, because the game offers you bard as a Slower Alternative with the same playstyle.

Removing its ability to weave, Will reduce APM and those who love current Machinist, Will hate those changes and theres Nothing else in the Ranged Physical Role to cater to us after that, those with high ping already have Bard catering to them with bigger Slower hits without Weaving.

I mean yeah it'll fix it, but it'll feel worse then it does now, it will feel sloggyer then it does now, the reason I love Machinist is because I absolutely adore the OGCD System and Weaving systems.. the potiental Double Weave systems.

also have u considered reducing ur need for weaving will make Double weaving a requirement in non-burst parts of your rotation?... high ping also kills players ability to double weave, and realistically removing reason to save the charges will mean u will just want to Spend em as fast as you can... which will result in Another set of bursts AFTER overcharge, via Double weaving your Next 3 attacks.

High APM Jobs Arent fixable for high Ping players without Removing its Ability to perform high APM, which Ruins a Class for people like me who desire it, my point on it is realistically. that's the problem, REMOVING something is far worse for the game then current, Limiting Options only Reduces how many Players this game can be Aimed at, one of the reasons A lot of people Are put off by this game is because compared to some other MMORPGS our APM is actually very low, We are pretty slow combat wise against that, if it already turns players away, reducing this further will only Damage the game in those eyes more.

Has anyone confirmed that 6 heat blasts are even possible? Last I heard, some people were able to get the animation to play, but the damage didn't go through. It seems like it's designed specifically so that only 5 are possible, giving you about 1 second of leeway.

Drayos, I think you missed the point. There are ways to preserve the playstyle intact while still making it lag tolerant, simply by increasing the buffer OR reducing how much cooldown was generated, AND making it so you could reliably get off 5 heat blasts during the cooldown regardless of ping. You don't need to touch the GCD, you don't need to prevent oGCD weaving. None of that needs to necessarily change to allow it to be possible, you just need to give people with high ping the ability to bank up the resources at times that they cannot spend them reliably so that they can actually spend them. You're not deleting a playstyle doing this, you're opening it up to more players.

And I don't know if 6 GCDs is viable. Most I've gotten is 5, sometimes 4, depending on if I am trying to weave or especially if I activate overheat as soon as oGCDs can activate after a GCD.

yeah I think this is true.

A lot of people have reported from A lot of Classes, they've limited some features More, OGCD wise to make OGCDs feel better across the board for everyone.. I remember someone mentioning this and a few other things with other Jobs APM/OGCD Wise which did kinda Negate some of the bad effects these classes have on high Ping players.

So if your managing 5 ur already capped, I’m guessing you were late to this news. But hopefully will stop u feeling like your failing it as you are not.

I actually don't like MCH. I think it's better than it was don't get me wrong. I just doesn't feel like it flows well... Clunky I guess is the word. I like that they are moving toward using machines instead of guns but then you still have things like Gauss Round and Ricochet and Hypercharge and Heat Blast. To top it off half your new machines are just AoE versions of single target abilities so you only really use the one. (That being drill.) I also don't understand the point of Wildfire as it basically does the same amount of damage as a regular Drill most of the time.

As a high ping, relatively high preforming MCH that cleared both ultimates.

New MCH is FAR worse for high latency players, its not even really easy to make a high ping rotation for it either like we could for SB.

This new version of the class is fine but it forces anyone thats been playing this class on high ping to go find a new job and I dont think thats healthy job design.

Also I think this is fundementally wrong, in my experience talking to other machinists, old and new, the appeal of the new job is just the cool animations that it is. The speed of the class has been a frustration to more than it has been an appeal. MCH has its own unique thing to BRD and DNC now that it wants to just be a full damage heavy hitting class. I dont think being "fast but weak, strong overall" is really important to this image at all.

TiL that you can only stack wildfire with 5 actions, I been lining up 3 gauss and 3 richochets and been wasting it.

Untrue. Machinist was second highest favourite on surveys held, several streamers are saying they’d consider giving up their main for it. And tons in streamers chats talk about how amazing it is.

I love the MCH as is except for one problem and I don't know if this is my latency or ping or w/e. When you summon the queen or rook it takes 3-5 seconds of your its time before its even attacking. The time itself shouldn't even begin to count down until they have been fully summoned. It feels awkward that Its only use is to come and use its overload IT NEEDS to be summoned faster or more time up. there is something to be done to improve the queen and rook other than using overload

Yeah it’s summoning animation is weird as hell, espically given its blow up ability is based on how long it has.

I didnt say it hasnt improved in the majorities eyes. I'm saying a robot and drill were enough to get the casual playerbase interested again.

And that the issues with MCHs clipping have become far worse due to their design on hypercharge. I dont think the appeal is from this fast and clippy part of the rotation but instead comes from the fact that drill is one of the coolest abilities in the game currently.

Mechanist is definitely in a better place than it was but there are several design problems still.

Wildfire: Maximum of 1200 potency on a 2min CD, that could be wasted if the target dies to fast or goes invulnerable. For a 2min CD, ending it early with Detonator makes it even more meh.

Barrel Stabilizer: This is just an extra 2 buttons to start the Wildfire + Heat Blast spam. Could just be combined into Wildfire and auto apply Overheated.

Hypercharge: Increases single target weaponskill potency by 20. Why exclude Auto Crossbow or even have this? Might as well just boost base Heat Blast by 20.

Auto Crossbow: Why no cooldown reduction for at least Ricochet? The aesthetic is wasted for this and Bio Blaster for just AoE.

Flamethrower: 1m CD that does 1000(1100?) AoE potency over 10s. Why does this not build heat? Why does movement or changing direction need to stop it especially since it's a low range skill?

Battery Meter: It takes ~25-30sec to bring it up to the minimum requirement for turret/queen. There is no way to "bleed" battery power, so saving 100 for a burst phase is penalized. Would the turret/queen just be better as a 30/60sec CD, while the battery is used to power/overcharge tool useage?

Chainsaw: Please.

I like the way the class plays but I have some issues with it. First of all, I hate that I'm basically forced to watch my hotbars 90% of the time. Could we maybe move some oGCDs to the gauge? Wildfire also feels very bleh. It used to our big thing but now it feels very weak and just kind of a throwaway spell. I don't like how our Queen is just a fire and forget spell. It doesn't have any other interesting interactions with our kit.

Flamethrower should have Synergy with Bioblaster IMO. As is it just feels weak. Total waste if AoE's spawn on you and flame thrower is wasted.

I feel like instead of weaving oGCDS during Heat Blast phase I'd would just use them between each part of the GCD combo leading into Drill or Hot Shot/Air Anchor.

Split > GB > R > Slug > GB > R > Clean > GB > R > Drill or HS/AA > Hypercharge > HBx5 > Repeat

Has a nice flow to it. Dunno if optimal but I prefer it to the weaving during Heat Blast. I'd rather get my 5 HB in every time. And Wildfire seems like it's only going to be used for 5 HB and that's it. You aren't getting 6. 5 is cap.

Reset your oGCD charges with Heat Blast phase. 75 seconds of reduction so wait till both are at 15 seconds and just bring your 3 charges back up.

If you're referring to dungeons, you can definitely eat at least one AOE and still be fine. I've done it quite a bit recently.

Are you perhaps hitting Wildfire > Hypercharge > HB Spam? If so, you're probably having trouble getting 6 Weaponskills in the Wildfire window because the first second or so is consumed by Hypercharge's animation lock.

You could try:

Only other issue I have with the class is that charging the battery takes a long time.

There are loads of people out there who can’t reliably even single weave between Heat Blasts without clipping. That’s bad design.

I usually hit hyper charge first, and then wildfire I haven't had issues, it's close but it works.

I still miss HW MCH. :/

Though I'm surprised that flamethrower made it to production as is. I personally would like to see a buffed Flamethrower be the skill we use during overheat in dungeons. And just have Autocrossbow be an upgrade from spread shot.

I liked HW Mch. I was not a big fan of how mch ended out in SB. I am absolutely in love with ShB mch. I just wholeheartedly hope they keep the ideas they have put into machinist now and refine and/or expand on it. To me everything about it just feels so good and fun to play.

i agree and disagree.

games cant cater to every audiences, theres thousands of things that disable players in games today.

Missing Limbs.

Bad Computers.

Brain injuries/issues.

If they tried to cater to everyone for this "good Design" we'd be on 3 button Rotations usuable by a Mouse Alone.

a 5.0 GCD to cater to pings uptoo 999 MS.

Reduced Graphics and Animations to help Poorer PCs to perform in the game.

Slowed down Mechanics to let people have more time to make decisions.

Does a game on these terms Attract you as a Player, because thats what ur effectively saying "good Design" is. u cant argue that people with high pings Should be adjusted for and ignore every other problem out there thats Inhibiting Players from playing this game.

the game has High Ping friendly options and Low Ping Preferencing options. that is good Game design, it caters to everyone simultaniously.

Your insistence that this particular implementation of Hypercharge is the only way to create a fast-paced, high-APM class suggests a lack of imagination. There’s no reason that both couldn’t be possible: change HB’s recast to 1.75s, perhaps, or reduce the animation lock of Gauss Round and/or Ricochet. Either one of those could ameliorate the clipping problems people are experiencing. Maybe the HC/HB window could be altered to a rapid-fire-multi-GCD-combo situation, instead of having to be an oGCD weaving one — would that inherently dumb down the fast action that you clearly enjoy? I don’t see why it would.

Moreover, a desire to reduce Machinist’s ping-imposed barrier of entry has been central to the community’s feedback for two years now at a minimum.

I don’t think your argument-to-absurdity of some sort of “slippery slope” caused by adjusting around these ping issues is worth taking seriously in the slightest. Particularly because most of the folks asking for the ping issue to be adjusted would also like more complexity and inflection points of interesting decision-making _added_ to Machinist. It’s just as much hardcore optimizers and theorycrafters asking for these changes as it is new players, if not moreso.

Dropping a flamethrower turret and continuing to do our normal thing would be awesome. I hadn't even thought of that. Rook/Queen is trash for AOE pulls. RIP Bishop buddy.

One can argue that MCH being more fast passed is more fun... Sure... But it doesn't have to be more fast paced in a way that makes it feel like you're tripping over your own shoes. Between the conflict between Air Anchor and Drill that make it difficult to have a clean rotation, and the Wildcharge phase being reduced to "Spam Heat Blast and pray the richocette/Gauss shot buttons register", its less "fast paced" and more panic inducing.
For me, old MCH actually DID feel fast paced; it felt like every other rotation you were unleashing all your energy at once in a rapid fire, and afterwards you got to cool off. Where others thought it was inconsistent, it felt like the Job gave you all the tools you needed to MAKE it consistent.
I'll grant that the old heat gauge isn't as good as how the new one works, just by nature of being activated rather than being automatic... But that's low comfort when I'm wrestling with such questions as:
1) How many combo lines to use between one Drill or Air Anchor and the next?
2) There's a gap between when Drill finishes cooldown and when Air Anchor finishes cooldown, is there time for a full combo in there?
3) Given last I checked, Queen Automata adds to Wildcharge, how do I consistently get Queen Automata activated in time for Wildcharge?
4) How often should I expect to use Overheat while Wildcharge is on cooldown?
5) While using Overheat, is it better to just spam Heat Blast for more Gauss shots? Or should one use the normal combo?
Basically nothing lines up cleanly, and it feels chaotic... Which is fine... For about ten minutes; when you realize your attention has been drawn away from the fight itself to a bar of abilities you're never sure when they're going to be off cooldown, and a pair of bars that you're constantly trying to use up before they're filled up and you waste resources, regardless of the ideal time to use them.
With old MCH, everything lined up. You had two reliable cycles of combos a minute thanks to Reload, and one of them was reserved for Wildcharge. There was enough time to fish for a SINGLE combo rotation between reloads, and with the short timer of Quick Load, you could easily be sure to force it up to third if the first one proc'd on its own; and if it didn't proc in the first couple, you could just use that time to refresh Hot Shot and cool off the gauge so it didn't overheat.
Needless to say, Gunbreaker feels a lot more like old MCH, so if anyone is nostalgic for old MCH due to how chaotic the new version is... Well... That's a pretty good Job to go with for now.

My only issue with the class right now is Flamethrower. Really should just be another DoT, like Bioblaster.

I'm enjoying the class right now, but it's only lv44 so far.
Not exactly representative of its end game play style.

The main reasons I never tried the class until now however is the absolutely awful things I constantly heard about playing it (wild fire and gauss barrel being particularly frequent topics of complaint), and it should have been called something more along "gunslinger" for how focused on shooting it was over.... you know, machines.

I have never understood these complaints, and I continue to not understand these complaints. The only change I would have made to the old WildFire would have been to make it last even a second longer so I could get one more attack in; and the only change I'd have made to Stormblood's Gauss Barrel would be to have made it possible to overheat on command.

... One out of two ain't bad.

I also had no problems with the Heavensward Gauss Barrel... It wasn't great, but it was okay; I was used to playing a caster by that point, so it wasn't really a problem for me at the time.

I love the new MCH. I think it's better than HW MCH for sure. I'm still level 72-ish but I'm having fun playing it.

It's pretty simple, straightforward but engaging for a job with high APM, but I can see why some people dislike it.

There's a few issues though like Hypercharge being super ping reliant. I'm fortunate to live by the west coast so this isn't an issue for me, but adjustments would be appreciated.

Then there's Flamethrower. It doesn't really sit well with your AoE skills. I'd like to see it have some synergy with Bio Blaster or have increasing damage the longer you use it maybe.

There's a few more like Drill/Air Anchor disrupting the flow of your combos and the Automaton Queen wasting 5 seconds of its time with the summon animation, but I think they can easily make some adjustments for those. Other than that, I think it's a pretty solid Job and I might main it if I find avoiding AoEs as BLM too stressful, who knows.

I will never stop loving MCH but 5.0 MCH isn’t perfect but welcome change

There’s gotta be a better way to get the full power of wildfire, and does it really need a 120 CD? That’s just ridiculous considering you can do just as much damage with a Reassemble skill, unless I’m doing it wrong since I’m still covering every nook and cranny of the job rn

MINOR nit pic change Hot Shots name!

Hypercharge with Heat Blast feels, clunky. All your moves get a pathetic potency buff but it’s mostly used to spam Heat Blast to reduce your Battery skills CD. Why can’t I just use my normal combo instead of Heat Blast, 100% welcome but Heat Blast feels so uneeded If reworked. Would’ve been awesome to have that speed and reduced CD skill with your main combo instead of pressing one skill

A AOE battery boosting move that shares CD with Anchor would be nice maybe, Noiseblaster?

Gimme Dismantle back Plz! I miss my wrench, also some distinction between Samba, Tactician and Troubadour to not make them feel like a Role skill and actual moves

Oh! And maybe a Aoe Wildfire? Because wildfire isn’t exactly doing it for me for multiple enemies

First half seems to be a personal issue of yours since you don't agree with the aesthetics of the job retaining gun-oriented skills. And that's okay, but they work, that's the important part. As for just using Drill, you don't simply just use Drill. The whole reason Bioblaster and Drill share a CD is so one is used for AoE and one is used for ST damage, you're not meant to use both altogether. Wildfire is just extra damage, I'm not sure why you're pointing it out as an issue when Wildfire is on a 2min CD (which should be used with Hypercharge, mind you) while Drill is on a 20s CD.

At this point, the only issue with the job IMO is Flamethrower being absolutely useless once you hit 72, and even prior to 72, you'd be better off just using Spread Shot.

I love the class a lot for someone who loves playing the techie class for DPS n such like when I played GW 2 Engineer, this honestly feels like they did MCH a solid with how many gadgets and tools and what not that they added, it's my favorite DPS class and I love blowing stuff up. My only complaint is Flamethrower it's underwhelming and I'd rather just use Bioblaster+ Spread Shot/Auto-Crossbow for AoE rather than use that.

Only part about machinist i don't like atm is Flamethrower, would be alot better if it was made into a robot ( or something ) you place and then it use "Flamethrower " in a cone infront of it.

Or just remove Flamethrower and give us Bishop back.
