5.0 WAR - QoL suggestions

Overall new Warrior is feeling pretty good, but one obvious thing keeps glaring at me.

Storm's Eye + Mythril Tempest

It would be really nice if Mythril Tempest applied Storm's Eye instead of strictly extending it. It's a technical pain to grab a whole bunch of mobs and then 1-2-3 before being able to actually go ham. Other tanks get their damage buff without having to perform a single target combo, just a nice quick oGCD. Why is it a DPS loss to put up our DPS buff?

Please consider allowing Mythril Tempest to apply Storm's Eye somehow. It doesn't affect anything else with WAR's arsenal, just a nice QoL for dungeon running.

Or, hells, even just move it to maim. Even that would be better than nothing!
So many times I've forgotten to stop and do the storm's eye combo before aoeing. ^^;

Or remove the buff and storms eye completely and make heavy swing give 5 rage like pvp = p

Replace overpower with mythril tempest and replace mythril tempests place as the second part of aoe combo with storms eye.

Overpower as a cone aoe is awkward when used with mythril tempest.

That seems a bit much, I just want our damage boost for AoE, like the other tanks, without having to waste time prepping a single target combo.

GNB 150 + 250 = 200/gcd + 20%
PLD 120 + 220 = 170/gcd + 25%
DRK 150 + 160 = 155/gcd + 10%
WAR 130 + 200 = 165/gcd + 0%

It's the least they could do considering WAR got virtually nothing new this expansion.

Yeah. Would be cool if we didn't need to prep single target combo for the buff.

I guess they could add it to mythril tempest. Or overpower maybe?

They could also add it to onslaught. At least that way it somewhat justifies it costing rage. Or they could add it to chaotic cyclone.

Also, they should make mythril tempest give rage from the get go imo without needing the trait.

I agree but would also love to see it giving 10 gauge(might be a bit much to ask, i know :P). DRK & GNB get a gauge ressource out of their aoe combo finisher, PLD & DRK also get mp.

Still i would be more then satisfied with a 10sec buff from Mythril Tempest.

War has always been the only tank that needed to do a ST combo before AOE. It was always fine before. Its much easier since you can maintain it forever now via AOE. It should never drop in boss situation when adds pop as youd have it already. In dungeons its extremely easy to maintain between pulls by refreshing towards the end. Start it up as your running through gathering mobs and you have it when you arrive at the end of the pull.

If you have intelligent party members that don't start pulling mobs as soon as you grab one, then perhaps you can get off a single target rotation while stutter-stepping to the next mob group. Otherwise you can only get ready for the next pull and apply it after most of them are dead.

And yes, it has always been a "problem" of counting mobs and guessing how long they'll take to finish off, and whether or not spending 3 gcds to set up a 10% buff will pay off by the time all the mobs will die (which is now approx 35 seconds).

Adding Storm's Eye buff to Mythril Tempest eliminates the guess work and awkwardness. But that's not even the point. WAR damage was always under the assumption of slashing and Eye/Maim buff. Even with the buff our normal AoE is close to the weakest, and with all other tanks getting abilities that match or exceed our raw potency on other abilities, and a single button to increase from there, it's only fair to ask for an easier way to get our buff up. I mean, it's already half the strength no reason it should take 3.5x longer to apply.

You dont need to have 'intelligent' party members. You just grab the 1st packs and should be sprinted ahead a bit. When you get to the last pack (2-3) mobs, you heavy on 1, ogcd the 2nd(onslaught or upheavel), maim the 3rd. Rest if the pack is gathering up on you as you hit eye on the 1st(the on with heavy) or the 2nd (if you onslaughted instead of upheaved. Pick the lowest potency one to eye is the point).

You have a giant pull and delayed your smashing by all of 1 gcd after they are within range.

If you are pulling, have everyhing gathered around you and then start to do 3 step eye combo you did it wrong. The 1st couple gcds will never hit the entire pack that is still playing catchup. Use that.

Is it 'more work' than just hitting dark side ogcd and spamming quietus? Yeah. But its hardly a performance loss, and even if it is, its only for trash pulls in dungeons. And only the 1st one as you can literally maintain eye for an entire dungeon now only using eye once and extend it via aoes.

Pardon me for not being scared to ask for a buff on WAR (even though it's hardly a buff). Perhaps there will be more important things to adjust but for the moment this one thing stuck out to me so I posted.

War always needed to prep or build up for max damage. At least that was the original intent. I dont know if this is relevant anymore, so Im all for adding buff to mythril tempest.

Similarly, if they could remove the rage cost from onslaught that woild be great. I dont like having to prep rage when going into a new zone so i can gap close at will like other tanks. Its kind of annoyjng.

Not being able to self target nascent flash in PvP is also slightly annoyjng. It only makes a difference in front lines or rival wings, it woild be a great qol change.

Hopefully they address some of this stuff in a patch soo.

They just hit intervene for the dps then?

If they just made it that Mythril tempest reset SE back to 30 sec instead of just adding 10 sec to SE, I would appreciate that. Honestly the only issue I have is that Infuriate doesn't reduce Inner Release's timer cost by 5 seconds. Though that is just wishful thinking as it would make WAR op again effectively putting IR on roughly a 60-70 recast. I always remember a quote Yoshi said back in 2.0 when he compared PLD and WAR. He said PLD is like driving automatic and WAR is manual. You have full control of your damage or mitigation and when to use it as opposed to PLD where you just press a button and it activates. Obviously WAR has lost some of that synergy but NF/IR decimate is probably the strongest self sustain burst in large pulls atm.

I don't think it needs the full 30 sec since in aoe situation we're gonna repeat it a few times at least. It just needs to apply 10 sec if it's not up, then you could start and extend it while gathering everything on a pull and be set when it's time to burst.

As for IR reduction, I don't really think that's necessary. It might end up as a significant buff but you could throw out ever trying to stay lined up with raid buffs and such. In the end it's probably better if it stayed a strict 90 sec, and if we end up needing a little boost we can get it elsewhere in the form of Onslaught/Upheaval buff - since both of these are currently the weakest single-target oGCDs of all tanks.

While it would be a nice QoL change to see WAR get something like our Storms Eye without having to drop the Mythril Tempest combo to get it, I would ask how would that affect us in keeping us on par with other tanks. GUN dps increase has a cooldown of about one minute and lasts for 20 seconds, I can't speak for the PLD or DRK equivalent but ours is capable of being consistent. So from a balance standpoint, what would they have to take away to make this feasible? I know I wouldn't want to get a change to Storms Eye if it became a cooldown ability.
