I think some people thought that but I really wish we had balloons popping out of our characters head when we talk in /say chat. That would help to see if a person next to you is saying something.
Have Yoshida said something about that in the past?

I... am not sure if it's actually a good idea? I just imagined Eureka, where people use /say chat a lot, and the screen almost completely covered with balloons. And more than that they will just change every second because of "one word per message" thing.
I might be wrong but I think 1.xx had a similar feature with pop up messages. I think it was just facial expressions but I could be confusing this with an entirely different MMO.
They do, I actually changed my text colors to be closer to how it's in WoW out of habit (/tell is pink, party chat is blue, fc chat is green, etc). I honestly miss the speech bubbles - unless it's a really long text, it's easy to read then and there rather than deviating my eyes to the corner of the screen. I can see why it would become a mess when there are many people typing at once, like the other comment said, but it'd be nice to have at least as an option that can be toggled on/off.
I've seen people who don't want this saying things like "But it would have chat bubbles all over the screen! You wouldn't be able to see anything!" And I can only be snide with my response and say "You've never heard of the options menu, have you?" I really scratch my head at people who don't even consider that such features would have an on/off option in the menu.
Well if it would be implemented as optional thing that you can turn off - that's okay. If it's something what you need to deal with, it would be a mess. Not everywhere though, mostly in places like Limsa and maybe few quests spots where you need to shout things in /say chat so nothing really that criminal, but still could be annoying.
I know ESO has an option to turn this off/on. So I think that could be cool, for people who want it, but also people like me who don't.
I think the lip flaps are enough. There's really no point in having 2 chats to pay attention to, especially when
people lol talk
like
like this because
they are soo excited
or think it's cute
and/or are like me who go on 3 paragraph tirades sometimes.
Only if it's made optional, but we are also talking SE here where looking at other things they've implemented they don't have a good record of putting things in that won't be annoying and won't have an option to be turned off. As how much spam you get and how fast those bubbles would be during the hunt train it would get annoying real quick if it wasn't optional.
As someone who rps, itd be nice to have so you can see when someone specific talks in a crowd of people. It would make gold sellers more noticeable and annoying, though..
It would have to be optional. Personally, player text bubble chatter annoys me to no end so if it couldn't be turned off from day one--absolutely not.
A thread about this does pop on the forums occasionally and the forum community seems pretty divided on it. Its probably not a priority for the team to even consider since there isn't an overwhelming demand for it.
I don't really get the division on it. The side that's against it, a large portion of them seem to think it would be mandatory and no option to turn it off. Not sure where they're getting this idea from that it wouldn't be optional. And they appear to be basing their resistance to it on this alone.
Just baffling...
We suggested this once upon a time in the beta forums I recall, the reply was along the lines of UI memory limitations due to PS3, albeit they used to use that for many requests as an answer.
From Misteq or however you say her names recent interview, seems they are continuing the whole "We are limited" asnwers, along with "we have only so many people".
Honestly these days I wouldn't mind a slower patch cycle for better content/QoL which is different to previous expansions structure.
For those of us not into rp this would be horrible. It's bad enough with /sh spam and some ppls awful 5 chapter macro messages. The last thing we need to do is offer and incentive to use /s more often. Anyone who is talking in /s or emote spams gets automatically blisted. If you like using them, great, but my log isn't going to be filled with your random conversation because you feel the need to use /s instead of /t for whatever reason and if I have to blist you to prevent it, so be it. And I am not the only one who feels this way. I know plenty of ppl whose blist is full of open talkers and emote spammers.
If they ever would implement this, they either need to uncap our blist limit or restrict it to rp servers.
Drowns in the sea of chat bubbles whenever I have to go to the quicksand.
I've been in Eureka a lot and 90% of the people use shout chat.
That being said, bubbles could be disabled in instances aside from your party members maybe?
Bubbles are honestly nice, its easy to miss new text in the window, especially if someone is crafting/spamming emotes/etc. The bubble would still be on your screen to read.
Simple as many other features: make it an option in the chat config menu: "Show player chat bubbles."
I really wanted this for too long, because of dungeons and raids.
Let me tell you, sometimes (esp. as a healer) I have to keep my eyes glued to the central part of the screen, where I put the party frames, resources, etc. Sometimes a player types something important in /p and I miss it because of that. If I could have chat bubbles appearing, I could've seen it because it would actually be in my field of view.
So, please... Chat bubbles, but make it optional. And while you're there, also an option to stop text auto scrolling when you're looking back old messages.
This right here. You have multiple tabs, and I highly doubt the mass majority use Battle when just talking on the streets. I have mine filtered to Say/LS/Retainer/Craft+Free Company. No mess, shiny green notifications. There's also the option for the additional tab to detach. Make that for talking with friends chat and it's essentially a perma bubble. The tools are already there.
