The Future of healers

I realize for many this is a faus pas within the community but years ago I played WOW. Now WOW healers had very interesting healing kits, such as bouncing heals that triggered off other heals such as waves of healing so it would trigger often targeting the next player at lowest hp, seed hots when hit with another heal would bloom into an aoe heal, a heal that triggers another heal into another sort of like a healing rotation with sometimes branches, shields that when target player with said shield gets healed it buffs the shield to a cap or adds a regen.

Now I realize atm this is probably too much as it seems to me at least that FF14 is trying to make healing jobs perhaps more simpler or pure healers? I like the direction of this idea, I do not like the identity of classes and what people are used to in others being taken away (I am an Astro main so for me its identity and the taken away remark is for Scholars).

I think what would be beneficial is if we could have the long term plans of what is in store for the healers happen now or be available soon, but sadly I feel like we have to wait for another expansion in order to see these changes fleshed out. Until then it appears to just be a case of being scared of change and with good reason for some or many.

All I can do though is play old content to have good memories of what is soon going to be 'what once was' and try my best to give my opinion on what I think was right and wrong with the changes and hope for engaging healer jobs skills and actions in the future that will not just make our healing capabilities more interesting but perhaps with some side flair like Afflatus Misery perhaps? Where our healing will be rewarded with dps?

P.S. I would love a starfall-esque ability for Astro <3

Mmm, it's not change people are concerned with so much as they can look at what's been previewed and have a fairly accurate idea of what that will play like based on past changes and how things currently play. We know it is unlikely level 1 to 70 content will be altered to reflect the new changes in healers. So even if the level 71 to 80 content is more intensive in the heals and engaging because of it, it still leaves prior content as less engaging.

I didn't have to wait until SB to know Lilies were meh at best back then though. Most people are upset because they look at these changes and they see classes they enjoy as now less unique, less engaging, and less fun. That's not a good place to be going into an expansion where the hype should be real.

I am fine personally with mostly healing, but it must be engaging to do so. I don't think the developers can make it so given the code they have to work with and the servers themselves. I'd be glad to be proven wrong though. But I also want prior content to remain engaging... as someone who loves leveling alts.

I would not mind playing a pure healer IF I felt like I was actually useful for the entire fight regardless of difficulty.

Describes my experience in a nutshell. :/ I went to the Vegas Fanfest as a WHM. The hype was real. I may switch to Dancer too. I've been considering it.

Sums it up well...this will be the first time that I don't plan to continue healing in something and that thought itself scares me.

My hype died down tremendously with their healer announcements these last few months (or lack thereof). Honestly if it wasn't for Viera my interest might've fizzled completely. I might still heal... at least for the story but I don't know what I want to main anymore. It's definitely not going to be Astrologian.

What were you hoping for? I am just asking out of curiosity.

It just depends on if they've designed healing to be closer to Stone Vigil's cure II spam (yuck) or undersized-party-Hunts/raid content with super fun weaving of all kinds of spells and reactive healing. But, it's most likely that they just want players to not be entirely focused on DPS, or letting Eos/Selene and essential dignity heal the tank like in leveling content, which is way too easy and totes just malefic spam for the entire dungeon

I was hoping to play a Viera, but I prefer to play a male character that (somewhat) resembles me. (Red hair, blue eyes...obviously the ears and tail aren’t natural...or are they?)

I was looking forward to the addition of a new healer. I wasn’t expecting Dancer to be a healer, honestly. But they kept saying they were adding “multiple new jobs” and, to me, multiple implies more than two. So I thought, “Ooh, maybe we’re getting one of each like in HW!”

So basically the Tokyo Fan Fest announcement was like a Stone IV to the gut.

Then I read an interview with Yoshida either at Tokyo or after where he said they really wanted to focus on bringing the three existing healers onto the same page before adding a new one. As a White Mage main, I was like, “Yay! Maybe I won’t be the useless healer!” I mean, I play the other two healers, but WHM is the OG and just my favorite.

(Side note, I don’t think WHM is the useless healer, but people have said that to me when I mention how it’s my favorite.)

So yeah, then after the media tour came and went and we saw how the healers had been assimilated into basically three White Mages with different skins and effects...I was basically just done with it. I don’t know what to do but shrug and shake my head.

Sad and true. 5.0 will ruin my favorite healer. I've all but stopped logging in the last few weeks as a result. I couldn't be more unhappy.

Talking to my healer friends and from reading the forums, most WHMs like myself wanted to be brought up to the level of the other two healers (either through straight DPS abilities with proper weave/oGCD heals or through utility) and all three healers to remain unique and engaging while obtaining more skills to further compliment and flesh each out.

It straight up looks like they gutted SCH and full on knocked AST flat to the ground... I don't know personally any WHM mains who wanted that to occur. *sigh*

I'm on vacation so I don't have a steady internet connection on my laptop to play most of the time... I am finding myself hesitating to play or staring at skills I won't have soon with nostalgia when I am on though.

I was planning to work my alt through the SB MSQ with his SCH when I get back next week, but now I've lost a lot of my motivation to do so... at the same time... I don't want to be under 70 and leveling a healer in the future... it'll be a slog fest of boredom.

I have the choice between healer and tank this expansion and whas A healer main for a long times now. But even I consider swapping to a tank the problem I see here will be finding decent healer when a lot of veteran and experienced healer just change jobs like me. So I maybe stay healer to keep the static alive more or less.

I am main healer since ARR and played them all across the years on every content.
I'am forced to remain healer because, it was planned since February with my static for the progress of 5.0.
But if I would not have static, I would switch to Tank (Paladin or Gunbreaker) or Dancer.

All while taking the worst part of AST (it's dps rotation) and using it as a model for the other healers.

My hype has definitely died down alot since last vegas..I was hoping for male Viera ( even though I like male hrothgar, I still want female hrothgar too), nope okay, another healer? Dancer? Nope..red mage having a white magic healing action from their kit, no...now AST which I main from when it was released at 3.0 " We changed the cards, so all the cards gives balance now and less DPS actions" We went from poker to goldfish.

Dancer looks interesting and Gunbreaker but I don't think I will be playing AST this expansion

Balance has always been adjusted for end game, which would be lvl 80 content in ShB. So the concern of the play style pre ShB is kind of a irrelevant (With the exception of two trials but I'm sure SE will balance around them).

Tbh I'm rather disappointed in most healers recently. I've been seeing a lot of healers with the same generic answer of "can't even play healer anymore they ruined the job so I'm forced to play tank or dps" when in reality, if these healers that claim to "I love healing SOOO MUCH, it's by far my favorite job!" yet jumping ship. My viewpoint could be skewed, but SMN in 2.0 was trash, low tier damage, no mp sustain, etc. It had a lot of issues, but I still mained SMN because I loved the job at it's core. I dealt with the terrible SMN for 2 years before it got it's major change. So when I see other people who claim to "love their main so much" yet jump ship ASAP just disappoints me.

Some people liked healing in this because it was constantly engaging, from the Stance Dancing Cleric's fun until SB to the fact we could still work with DPSing and healing constantly, still do our jobs while helping out the group in other ways. SE has, for this expansion, basically said "That way of playing is wrong." and left a lot of us in doubt as to whether or not healing will be engaging or fun. It could be, and some of my most fun on a Scholar were the moments where I had to keep everyone alive moments from deaths and/or wipes, but there's been nothing to show that this will actually be the case.

Remember, you can like healing, but if the jobs aren't still fun and engaging, you may not like the jobs. Seeing as there isn't even a new healer to get that brand new healer playtime in, it doesn't surprise me that a lot of healers are getting burned out. This is the second expansion in a row we didn't get a healer, the second they said they were going to balance healers, and the second all the information we have so far looks boring at best. I don't blame people for jumping, and while I will still be going through the story on my Scholar (I don't usually use SMN for solo instances), there is a very real chance that the fun I have currently is just...Gone.

Yeah... I don't main a healer, but I've been playing SCH a lot lately to get it out of my system before ShB.

Less than three weeks left for me to get in there and be the best I can be, having Eos heal 80% of the dungeon run while I go to town with DoTs on everything, and feel increasingly somber with every roulette.

This. So much this. To all the players wondering why a lot of us are upset. Read this. Then read it again. Then read it a third time, because this right here is exactly why we’re here.

We should be able to enjoy the game we play, and we’re worried that what we love to do won’t be fun anymore.

I've been maining WHM since the launch of ARR. I've held out for years now for WHM to be made more engaging, fun and unique while also becoming competitive on some level with the other two healers. How many more years and expansions do I have to go through to obtain this? Time and time again they take our skills and make them role actions or they feed them back to us as a higher level skill with a longer cool down. When is it too much? When is the time to move on? It depends on the person, but my patience and hope is wearing ever thinner. For some people that hope has died with what we've seen. The previews will only change potenties of the skills, but not the skills themselves and I'm not impressed. Simple as that. WHM didn't get gutted like SCH or slapped like AST, but it was behind the other two to begin with. Nothing's changed based on what I'm seeing. It's not like I won't level all my classes to 80, as a completionist, this was already in the cards, but unless I find them engaging still, I'm not going to keep playing them past that, not if my current level of fun with the classes is diminished even further.

Just do something that you enjoy if healer is no longer your bag anymore than move to something that does engage you. I'll always have a max healer (or all) a max tank and two max DPS usually a ranged and melee if I get bored by them I move to the next and keep going from there. Theres so many choice to choose from that I have no doubt all of you will find something you enjoy and play that most of the expansion and still have a blast. there will always be other times and expansions other changes that will happen over the lifetime of an expansion that might bring back the spark that you loved but constantly complaining and being pessimistic just makes that mindset more prevailent and likely to remain regardless negativity sticks. try soemthing positive.. and if a class no longer interests you to the point that you're just feeling like constantly complaining about every flaw it has then maybe that class isn't for you this expansion it doesnt mean it will always be this way it just means that it doesn't pique your tastes right now. Give it a try and a fair shake and then go from there. (I'm pretty estatic about Holy no longer having that idiotic diminishing return.
