Suggestion for the new WAR animations in 5.0

After seeing the Job Action trailer a few days ago, and seeing my main job Warrior getting so few new animations, I've been checking the tank forums for anything regarding this. I've found some, but nothing that really suggests new animations.

What animations am I dissatisfied with?
Well, the only one I really find "lame" is actually Mythril Tempest. This skill is an old AOE 3.X PvP skill, and it doesn't have the greatest animation in my opinion compared to the new AOE combo animations of PLDs and DRKs.

So, I have a suggestion for a new animation in its stead, and as a matter of fact; the animation I'm talking about already exists in-game, which I've wanted ever since I saw it back around 3.4.
This animation comes from Hullbreaker Isle (Hard) where the final boss uses an attack named Galadion Ram.
Basically, you swing the axe with one arm over your head and into the ground, like a stronger Overpower.
But there are other cool animations this boss uses aswell; such as Ghomorran Splitter, where you stomp your feet in the ground erupting the ground beneath with "flames". Or, another one, Maelstrike, very close to Steel Cyclone, yet you don't actually spin upwards but instead it looks almost like our old Brutal Swing back in 3.X. (which could also be a replacer for Mythril Tempest's animation.)

Well, this is just me opening my mouth for the first time. Apologies if similar suggestions are out there and I haven't seen them. Also, while this isn't as important as actual ability tweaks for jobs, it is something that would certainly let me enjoy Warrior a little more.

I agree. The only proof needed is that the analysis of the job action trailer listed the 1st gauge move as Inner beast since they just recycled the animation in its entirety (changed the particles a bit) and now we know that was actually our new lv 80 job defining action Inner chaos.

That is hugely disappointing. If they can create shadow clones and holy explosions, surely they can make the hardest hitting tank move have a little more pizzazz than recycling inner beast we have been using already for 5 years.

I wont speak to your specific suggestions as I havent played hullbreaker in ages, but anything with more impact would be appreciated.

One side of me kind of thinks that the re-used animation of Inner Beast is a.. nice one, merely because we would never see it ever again beyond Lv54 if Inner Chaos didn't have it.

However, another side of me also thinks that the animation does indeed, like you say, not have as much impact as it should have for a 900 potency direct crit.

I'm actually OK with recycled animations, but only those of which we've lost, or will lose. Butcher's Block, Deliverance, Brutal Swing, Foresight, Unchained... it's sad that we lose more than we gain.

well i think they recycle too much warrior ability's. imo we only got two and a half new ability animations in sb. upheaval and onslaught, half for ir, because it looks like a mix from infuriate and berserk, half for a bit more style with red eyes. in shb we got 1 new ability animation, the "new" helicopter move (thou i heard this animation also already existed). so in 2 expansions 3 and a half new skill animations and 2(maybe 3?) and a half reused ones, but we didn't lose the reused ones, which might be ok with ppl, but the problematic thing is that 2 of those still exist, but for lower level. inner release is acceptable thou and a bit nit-picky on my part perhaps.

For Mythril Tempest I would prefer more of a "hammer throw" style of animation which we technically already have in the game since it's been used quite a bit in the Hildibrand quests.

The fx for Chaotic Cyclone are pretty good but I wish there was more of a "tornado" look to it. As for the animation, I would like to see it be an evolution of Decimate with the WAR jumping up into the air before slamming down, but this time while in the air they spin around real fast with their axe out to match with the whole "tornado" theme.

For Inner Chaos, like Chaotic Cyclone, I would like to see it also be an evolution of Fell Cleave. The WAR would slam their axe down onto the ground in front of the target and then use the shaft like a pole to do a head over heels flip, then using the momentum from the flip to bring the axe around ending in a basically the Fell Cleave animation.

Will the devs ever do the above, probably not, but I can dream.

I think the Decimate animation might go well after the Overpower animation. I don't like how Overpower is a cone aoe and Mythril Tempest is a 360 AOE. It just doesn't flow well.

Ideally, I'd want them to:

(1) Replace Mythril Tempest animation with Decimate Animation and have it be a cone AOE like Overpower (or just turn Overpower into a 360 AOE).
(2) Replace Decimate with Steel Cyclone
(3) Replace "upgraded" Steel Cyclone with Chaotic Cyclone
(4) Have new unique animations for Inner Chaos and Chaotic Cyclone

Or like you said, I think they could use the Brutal Swing animation. I think it looks better than Mythril Tempest. Which makes no sense. Like how would spinning an axe from the center like a staff be an attack? And it wouldn't even spin very well because it it's perfectly balanced, meaning if you were to spin it like with Mythril Tempest the center of the spin would have to be closer to the heavy axe head. Which means you'd just be hitting people with the butt of the axe shaft.

I dunno... I think the large fire ring that Mythril Tempest has makes the animation somewhat decent.

Also, I'd like for them to change the animation on the tank stance graphic. I don't like how the "wind" that wraps around the warrior looks flat, like a paper wrapped around into a silo shape.

I'd be okay with them removing the "wind" effect and just keeping the lightning effect of the stance graphic.

I think it'd be an improvement.

Some of the fire effects that happen when you shift into deliverance/defiance could be looped to make it into the stance graphic. I think they look pretty good and would probably be an improvement over the current graphic.

Decimate... Has worn out its welcome for me. It doesn't feel as nice as Steel Cyclone, especially with the long delay on its damage >.>

Personally, I'd like it if Overpower became PBAoE instead of Cone. (So that you don't have this awkwardness wherein Overpower is a Cone and literally your other 2 AoE's are PBAoE...)

Like, it would be super neat if it would like each usage alternate between a / or a \ slash where after the powerful chop you make, it then does the spinny-death-blades animation as it cuts deep into the enemy. Would also make Inner Release look way cooler, when instead of just giving a little love tap with each "Cleave" you're there swinging wildly left to right with powerful feeling attacks.

Yeah, I've never liked decimate's animation and how it feels delayed or slow because of the windup.

I think steel cyclone is beautiful though.

Colossal Fissure is sort of like the War LB now or like a bigger Upheaval, but I wouldn't mind Inner Chaos being changed. I mean the particle effects or the graphic that happens after the blow lands is great (although I wish the fire and particles would linger a bit longer after the move lands) but the fact that the attack animation is Inner Beast is a bit of a let down.

I think they phoned it in on Warriors in this expansion. I think the new mechanics and changes to actions are fine (although I still wish Onslaught had no rage cost), the animations are really a let down.

Especially after getting Fell Cleave in HW - Which is the most satisfying move in terms of graphics and sound imo - and Inner Release and Upheaval in SB - which are both pretty cool looking.

I dunno.

I hope they do something about it, but I know they have a lot of things on their plate. I hope some of these animations gets looked at somewhere down the line.

I've always greatly preferred the animation and sound of Inner Beast over Fell Cleave so I'm actually quite happy that it's basically a modified Inner Beast. And while I don't really like Steel Cyclone's current animation and sound very much, I still like it way better than Decimate. I actually quite hate Decimate and would prefer almost anything else over it, lol. I think it's because the sound effect is so...I dunno? Sounds like something out of smash bros. I'd prefer a low, rumbly sound kinda like the sound it makes when you use Inner Release. Like you're breaking the earth under you.

I want Astaroth's animations from Soul Calibur.

Decimate seems like an animation we're displeased of, atleast in this thread, and I personally agree aswell. Like stated already, the animation's slow, the damage that pops up is slow. But, to be fair it is better for it to pop up when you actually land than when you're in the air. Still, it's slow.

I too, would really like Chaotic Cyclone's animation to be the upgrade to Steel Cyclone instead of Decimate's. Then we'll just have to change Chaotic Cyclone's animation to something else chaotic. I'm still conflicted however when it comes to Inner Chaos though, it looks OK the more I look at it...

I've stated my opinion of Mythril Tempest, and Brutal Swing fits the role of a 360° attack imo, when Decimate's may be an option aswell.

When it comes to the tank stance effects.... ... ..we won't have that amazing animation of Deliverance anymore, and that makes me wanna cry. It is far better than Defiance's. Also, yes, the effects that happen whilst switching over to a stance does look good and I wouldn't mind having them permanently haha

I've seen you suggest this elsewhere, and honestly, I love it. I can imagine it becoming the new signature move with the amazing impact it got. It would most certainly make the chaos in Inner Chaos.
Though, is it actually possible to rip something off like that? We'd maybe need a unique spin on it.

Well, it wouldn't be too hard to keep them different enough to not be a "Rip off"

For example, because FFXIV isn't an isometric turn based RPG, you wouldn't be flinging your target like 30ft into the air and slamming them down (Or other such fancy things that get done in Disgaea...)

Not to mention that Upheaval already gives us precedent for fissures exploding.

(Also, the next skill in the video Violent Storm is not too dissimilar to Storm's Path :rolleyes:)

That and really, my suggestion is more just adding a little bit more to the current animation. Following through with the "Inner Beast" strike, into a jump and slam down. But with a bunch of cool particle effects so the signature "Big Bad Tank Move" actually looks as visually impressive as its potency. (Rather than being nigh indistinguishable from the bog standard level 35 skill we've had for years - To the point where after the Job Actions trailer, many people thought that they were just showing off the new slightly updated Inner Beast animation and were saving our big bad signature move for later to let the other tanks get some hype...)

First time seeing the Job Actions trailer I thought aswell that Inner Chaos was just a better looking updated Inner Beast animation (which I wish it was, because it is cool, compared to Inner Beast now). Same goes for Chaotic Cyclone. I mean, I didn't really expect SE to start off the showcase with the new Lv80 skill, it looked too simple, especially for 900 potency.

I will for 6.0 remember that anything can happen in these trailers.

Yeah, I agree. The actually exploding graphic after the attack lands is actually pretty cool. But the Inner Beast animation part of Inner Chaos looks too simple to be the our Big Bad Tank Move.
