Problems that need to be fix for 5.X

I know that no game is perfect and have always room to improve but 3 things will get worst in 5.x if they not fix.

1 -> I think most of us have encountered the same problem over and over again with ppl have no idea about mechanics at all. I’m not talking about new mech or mistakes in the level that they supposed to learn those things. But levels 70 (max levels) that still have no idea about stack mechanics for an example or role basics.

I’m not against a skip potion or HoH/PoD, since this is probably the most eficiente way to get level 70, behind MSQ. But I think they should improve the Hall of Novice (do something that really help) and make it a must if you buy the jump potion for a role for the first time if you don’t have level 70 on then. Spam HoH and PoD is just good for leveling up, almost don’t help in game.

2-> Add min ilevel for all the dungeons. Who haven’t have a paper tank, no dmg dps or can’t heal healer because his/her ilevel is way to low. And I can’t blame them since is a game problem not player.

3-> Fix the Mentor status, make something that gives proud for those using it and make it account wide. Also do something about Ex trials specially because now most of the ppl get the clear using unsync so they sometimes have no idea about the fight at all.

I'm all for min ilvls for dungeons.

There have been plenty of times where someone gets a dungeon via roulette they don't have the gear for, such as tanks in Bardam or later SB dungeons who have leveled via HoH or for whatever reason don't have the gear for it. They might not have meant to get into a higher level dungeon and just hoped for a lower level one for exp, but now they're a liability the group has to cope with or replace.

Also, any duty past level 50+ require a JOB no classes.

I think something should be done about mentor roulette in general, the amount of successes i've had when mentor roullete queues you into sync'd ex's can be counted on one hand, because the kind of person who queues via DF for those duties are generally not skilled enough to go blind into any ex content despite out gearing it, and no amount of mentoring can account for that (especially on EU when you factor in language barrier). And I get that the point of that roullete is to help people clear things and to teach people, but getting chucked into sephirot ex with a gaggle of sprouts isn't a learning environment, its a shit show.

They should probably make the mentorship system an opt in thing which pairs up newer players with a mentor if they choose to want one. Make it like a beacon that new players can toggle on when they unlock the duty finder and the mentor roullete throws you in with people with that beacon active, then once you meet the qualifications for mentorship (which should be raised), you have to apply, and there can only be a finite amount of mentors on any world at any one time, you get placed on a waiting list, and eventually you get given the status when room frees up, and then you have to keep doing the mentor roullete or you lose the crown and have to reapply and go back on the waiting list.

While we are on the subject of the mentor system, I have to say that one of my biggest gripes with it is how easily you can become a mentor.

I figured mentors are supposed to help new players with stuff like general game terms and what not, but also gameplay and classes, and since the only requirement to become a mentor is having one class of each role at 50 or 60, the result is ~80% mentors being players who haven't even read their tooltips.

I -think- there might've been some other requirement for becoming a mentor, but since I've had the mentor status for years and can't remember what it was, it must've not been a big deal.

Most importantly make it a must to clear the ex fights synched... and maybe try to force language a bit more, i cant help if they cant understand^^"

1) Player issue. Not sure how you expect developers to fix an issue where players don't take the time to learn their respective roles. Also, this should be a non-issue in non-savage and raid content since dungeons are easy and generally considered leveling content where people learn their roles.

2) I agree with this. No arguements from me here.

3) Player issue to an extent though some developer help would be appreciated. There should be some sort of way for mentors to police their own or a rating system for mentors based on their helpfulness.

For 1 & 3, no solution will make everyone happy.

1 is difficult because several jobs' rotations and mechanics change a fair amount depending on your level. The best I could come up with would be to have some sort of solo-battle competency test every 10 levels or something, but unless the system was smart enough to point out what the user was doing badly, you're bound to just get people that go "this is too hard". They'd also need to force a rather low iLevel cap on them (or treat them like PvP instances where your gear is irrelevant) so people couldn't just outgear the challenge.

3 is difficult because different people expect different things from mentors. It's clear that some people want mentors to know everything about everything. I don't remember anything about the HW EX primals, does that suddenly disqualify me from being a mentor? I've never even got a HW EX primal in the mentor roulette. I realize there are a few bad seeds out there, but few enough people run the mentor roulette as it currently stands. I don't think it would be wise to thin the herd even more. Somebody needs to fill those queues.


Personally, I'd just leave things as-is, but maybe add some sort of "apprentice" system, where people could apply to be "masters" and "apprentices". People who think they've mastered a particular job could take a sprout under their wing and teach them the ropes. Should be pretty good at helping people form lasting in-game friendships as well, which this game is in dire need of.

I think an infinite amount of mentors is fine (why limit them). However maybe have no "bonus" like the symbol by your name? Make mentor be something you can do if you want, but it doesn't give any benefits - which will keep alot of the trash out.

Removing all the crown icons and replacing them with watering cans will instantly fix a lot of the perceived mentor problems.

Yeah I think putting a mount behind doing so many mentor roulette was probably a bad idea. Make it a volunteer thing with no reward. Well, maybe like, a good amount of tomes from mentor roulette but no unique rewards.

A watering can icon would actually make sense, considering the new player icon is a sprout.

I agree with this, mentors should be people who want to help, yes removing a reward would mean less mentors but the ones who truly want to help people will remain.

I'd be okay with a watering can for a mentor icon.

I'm probably being vain, but something about seeing a battle mentor with the crown and sword next to their name underperforming/using skills and abilities wrong if at all hurts my soul.

Been said quite a lot, the mount didn't exist when they added the roulette, almost no one ran the roulette for months, so they added the mount as an incentive so people run it. Mentor roulette is not a roulette that matches you with people who need learning, it's just a queue filler, it doesn't even prioritize duties with newbies.

The simple fact that the only global chat in this game is locked behind becoming a mentor guarantees that people who aren't particularly interested in mentoring will still become one.

1 -> The issue is as soon as gear out passes the content mechanics don't matter unless they are instance death and people complain about one mistake and getting KOed.
Look at the 1st 24 men. Last fight where if people don't do Mechanics they wipe, Otherwise mechanics don't matter at all.

2-> The problem here is people get used to content being stupid easy because they are so over geared when they come up against content with a min ilevel it's too hard when they are just at the min.
There is content with min ilevel Go in with a group just at the min. Now go into content with a min ilevel where everyone is that same ilevel and you will find it a lot harder not because you got worse but because you are used to being over geared.

3-> Mentor status, It's just broken but they can't really fix it because some people are working on the mount.

We already have duties that require a minimum item level to enter...the level 50, 60, and 70 specific stuff. It's generally well-balanced, and generally prevents terribly under-geared individuals from queuing in and struggling as a result of gear that is too far behind where they should be.

What they are talking about is treating the leveling dungeons with the same approach. Currently, you simply need to be at or above the level a leveling dungeon starts at. Bardarm Mettle, for example, drops item level 276 gear, and is essentially meant to be run by a group in the 260-270 range, on average.

I can queue into that with an item level of 100 (so level 50 gear range, and not even top of the line level 50 gear at that), and it doesn't stop me from doing so or even tell me that I need to wear level appropriate gear.

And there's nothing wrong with requiring a more appropriate level of gear, even for leveling dungeons.

The lighting.
Please fix the lighting
I don't know what happened to it when Heavensward came out
But there are some cutscenes that are flat out horrifying because of the way the lighting makes characters faces look

Kan-E-Senna giving the memorial speech at night? Nightmare fuel, the warrior of light in the waking sands at the end of heavenward? Nightmare fuel

It didn't used to be that bad
Then they made things "better" in game
Now all the characters are scary looking in important cutscenes because of the way any light at all hits their face at just the wrong angle and makes them suddenly look like horror movie creatures

Please fix it SE
