[Job Creation] Time Knight

Hi, I want to share with you my 3rd and last job of this expansion Stormblood.
Dryad (healer) and Meteorologist (dps) were shared on their respective forum last year, but because Time Knight (tank) is my last, I wanted to share it where there are more people (all the jobs are on one document).

I have changed a bit how I organize my informations in the google sheet.
Indeed, I'm afraid that too much informations could stop people reading the document.
I don't think I will change for my healer and dps, though (or maybe later).


My intentions : I think my first though has been to demonstrate that a job with the time theme can existe despite the presence of the Astrologian (which possess this theme too). Afterwards, I was thinking about Quartz and Demi for a tank version, and I knew I wanted to do a tank. After, my second thought has been to do a Noctis combat style (FFXV), and because he generates some kind of illusions with his attacks, I had chosen to do this for my Time Knight. Because of his dynamical agile aspect, I implement that for my tank too, so I needed to create a new type of tank : dexterity tank (instead of strength). When I began all of this, it was before Stormblood, so there wasn't role actions. So, I improvised by creating one specifically for dexterity tanks.
I have tried to mix illusions with time of the best I could and I am satisfied of the result, mostly after the time past to look how to do two kind of stances (Scission and Decoy), and a whole illusion system which functions. The goal is to have a new type of tanking, original and ambitious.


Time Knight Story : When the 1st calamity struke the Source, all the history of the world has been forgotten and disappeared forever. To avoid such tragedy in the future, courageous and valiant survivors created a secret order, guardians and conservators of the memory of the Source and his reflections.
Charge to watch and protect their timeline, the Time Knight is a discipline that so few known about because of his extreme rarity, considering often as a myth or even a legend.
However, feeling a great threat emerging in the First and his repercussions on the Source, they appeared again hoping to find new disciples desirous to learn the art of controlling and protecting the time.


So, what is a Time Knight ?

A tank manipulating time granting him the capacity to attack and move faster, to slow and stop enemies.
Furthermore, a new system based on illusions allows him to transfer his enmity to them, exchange his position with them, do more damages, and absorbe them to generates several effects.
We can see illusions as past and future versions of the Time Knight.

just no... Time is what we ast are for.. if this was a rune knight idea id support it but no... 2 time knight or dps thats our uniqueness as ast

I wonder what devs think of all these jobs suggestions when they usually just go for what is already popular, what is already used and if it fits their thematic universe.

So technically you can have a time-themed job so long as it remains thematically, mechanically and visually different from Astrologian, which isn't that hard since Astrologian's primary theme is stars and space first and foremost. Also, it wouldn't even be the first time it's happened since Bravely Second had both Astrologian and Time Mage.

The only real issue is that due to itemization designs brought on with 4.0 adjustments, any tank that is not strength-based is impossible to make unless they manage to un-shoot themselves in both feet by reverting tanks back to vitality-based damage, removing strength from Fending accessories, readjusting every single tank ability, and permanently removing main-stat materia to ensure that tanks aren't gaining the materia system like they did with late Heavensward--all of which would be incredibly unlikely to happen just because it's easier to keep the current itemization as-is for the sake of balance adjustments. While I understand that this concept was made pre-Stormblood, it does stick out pretty badly now given how tanks have changed since then.

Aside from that, this is still one of the better time-themed job concepts I've seen. I'd recommend looking more to previous incarnations of Time Mage though, especially that Time Battlemage from XII since it wears heavy armor.

MorbolvampireQueen6, there are so many thing we can do to create a pure and original job based on time.
For me AST use just partially (a little) this theme.

It was an idea from my first concept and I wanted to keep it intact, but I understand it could be complicated for SE to create another category of tank.
If SE wants to use this job, I'am not against the removing of dexterity attribut for a strength attribut. It's not a problem at all.

Nice ideas , should make this tank in the game :D

To start, congratulations for all the work around this job (and for the two previous ones).

I really like the idea and the changes that this tank could bring to the game (many ideas that would diversify the game).

I hope can play this job someday in FF14 :)

what on earth made you think it would be a good idea to force the dps combo to contain two separate increased enmity moves?

do you have any idea how horrible that would be?

are we just going to forget how bad HW paladin was because it had even one? (savage blade -> royal authority)

edit: also potentially having to use ground targeting mode to place an illusion potentially every 15 seconds. no thank you.

Astrologian is not unique because of Time. The main theme is on it's name. Time is just a feature, a mere tool.

FFXIV lacks a main Time manipulator Job imo, and I'm not satisfied with just Astrologian. I want a Job in the level of Ultimecia Job, and not just a little feature when it could be a whole lot better.

I see you have some inspiration on my attempted Time Job Source Blader, thanks for reading it if so. (Spacio-temporal Safeguard at least)
I had a similar way of utilizing "illusions", but I did not want to call them illusions because it would just not fit the time theme for me. So I've come with an explanation and made the action different. I call myself from the future, taking control over him and leaving my character with the AI. The AI will copy every action for 15s and then he will enter in a portal to the past, so that he can become what I am now and complete that timeline. That's how I explain how we can utilize illusions.

It's a interesting job, my Sourcer Blader is a multi role, it's lacking the Tank and Healer variants, although only having 2 sketch Lv 30 stances. I would surely utilize that future versions/illusions as a additional tank mechanic, while expanding it a whole more lot too.

Hmm, I was not aware of this issue, but yeah I have noticed one combo was useless against boss, so I swapped two weaponskills and now we have 3 combos useful (one specialized in enmity).

In fact, the active illusions are created on your position. No need to position them.
However, you have to do it for Self Reflection which is a passive illusion. This ability is not mandatory but you have several ability which interact with illusions, so you may miss some opportunities if you don't do it.

I remember have read your job and like it because of the theme and ideas but I have forgotten everything (been nearly 1 year, now).
It's not impossible I may have unconsciously taken inspiration from your work.
Your explanation for the use of the illusion is nice too.
