Increase glamour plate limit.

From 200 to oh, about 10,000 please, or ∞ There is no logical reason for such a limitation. Or flesh out the glamour system to be more like WoW's transmog system. Say what you will about WoW but the one thing they did right is how their cosmetic system works. Every item you obtain is added to an appearance library and unlocked for the entire account. Glamour plates is like halfway there to be honest. But they're heavily limited. Only 200 slot. Sure that's another 200 slots to help take some pressure off our poor retainers but I'm stilled forced to prune some items, can't keep everything for glam because how much unique items there are versus how much inventory space is like not at all comparable. There is also the amoire but like countless sets won't go into it even though it's a set. I love FFXIV but the cosmetic system has always been cumbersome. Yes there has been lots of improvements made and I appreciate it. But I feel like something more drastic is needing. Especially as more expansions and more content patches are added with ever more unique gear and armor. Especially with new jobs coming in with unique armor sets. You can even keep the glamour prisms. And the plate system to make a more streamlined and sensible system. Because combining plates with traditional glamouring is kind of awkward. So basically the glamour plate mirror/dresser thing should be made into a gear library. When you use a prisms to add an item to the library you can then put them in sets you make with the plates. The difference is instead of physically adding the item into a limited space special inventory you're unlocking the appearance in the glamour plate library. This would focus most glamour to the plate system. It would also allow us to clear out mass amounts of inventory space and make room for other things. Especially for those who do DoH/DoL they need that space. I've avoided doing those just because I don't have the inventory for them. I know the main devs are Japanese so they may never get this message, or not like it. Maybe they're convinced inventory juggling is somehow fun. I don't know. But I'd really like to see this change.

I agree that 200 is low, but I don't think we really need more then 1,000.

The logical reason is this is not WoW, and the game is still working on old 1.0 code which brings a ton of other limitations that often take several years to see fixes/changes.

I have said multiple times, they need to go all in with the glam dresser and make it more useful.

It is useful now, but it needs to be more useful in ShB.

Increase the amount it could hold to maybe 1000 or no limit even.

They need to increase the amount of glamour plates to equal the amount of available jobs, including crafters/gatherers.

I love using a different outfit for every job, so more plates would be great.

You do know WoW didn't originally had a cosmetic systems at all right? That WoW is running off a modified version of the original Wc3 engine? And they made it work.

While I agree that the system needs expansion, we've been told again and again WHY they can't just open it up. Every time we get a few slots it puts a certain amount of traffic and load onto the item servers. If they just opened it up and said lets just let them go till they break it, it'd kill everyones game. I'm also all for an overhaul but I have my doubts as to players actual willingness to wait for new content while the limited resources of the FFXIV team gets devoted to redoing such a core component of the game.

And like I said, this isn't WoW and what Blizzard may have done cannot be so easily replicated by SE, and besides players may not want the same exact thing in another game. If it was so easy to add this they would have done it a long time ago, but considering how long it took for the glamour dresser to be added to begin with, a glamour library is just a pipedream. Also WoW doesn't have platform restrictions considering XIV is on PS4, so that's another thing that can delay big changes (see PS3 history).

This is one area where WoW kicks the absolute crap out of FFXIV. It's not even close. And WoW is older, so FFXIV has no excuse. This game is way more cosmetic-focused, too. So it's extra bizarre. They need to stop making excuses and buckle down to remedy this. I dunno what's going on with this dev team or server infrastructure where adding features seen in other games will somehow light the servers on fire, but I'd rate that as a critical issue, because it's very abnormal.

Then in the very least they can greatly increase the limit of the items in the dresser. 200 is pitiful.

To be fair, the gear library (wardrobe?) in WoW wasn't added until after 2.0 released (June or July of 2016 if google is telling me right). It wasn't even on the dev's horizon until much later. And it will be improved. It will just take them awhile to get it working.

Yeah it sucks cuz while the system for transmog is better in wow. The options aren't nearly as good. Most gear especially chest and pants is literally just a 2d texture over your character model lololol.

They're aware of this type of request (increasing dresser capacity). It's a server optimisation thing again. They're testing this, it will take some time, it will be increased at some point but not by a giant amount. I don't know why there isn't a glam catalog type thing like you describe WoW as having. I'm guessing it's just much harder to implement than we might imagine. Do any other mmos keep record of every gear you've ever owned?

There's always technical hurdles in cramming in features that the game wasn't original designed to have. Sometimes after feasibility study they just say no, the amount of resources would be too high, we can't do this soon or maybe ever. There's always this unending list of other stuff to work on, like how long until more smn egi glamors? They want to keep improving the game but sometimes the dev resources versus benefit to the player isn't a good ratio to proceed or to give a high priority to.

Like it to be made so I can have 30 glamour sets and hold 500 glamours.

During the Euro fanfest, I think, they asked what people wanted most, more plates, more space, or more locations to cast glamours. The results were in that exact order, so we'll most likely see more plates first. That is my main request as I personally don't have an issue with space, but I am a lala, most gear is meh on us, and I'm very particular too. I feel there should at least be as many plates as there are jobs. If they double what we have, I think we'll be okay.

More plates is pointless if I don't have room to store glam. And location doesn't matter to me that much. Not nearly as much as space.

We need all three.

Their current glamour system is so clunky and limited despite the attempt to alleviate the issue. We're coming to the 3rd expansion; we've had loads of dungeon, tomestone, crafted and raid gear spanning from ARR up until now. Just 200 slots doesn't even cover a fraction of even just one role's armor/weapons armor available now (which are largely relegated to only being glamour, given the rapid gear progression). They know gear aesthetics is a big part of their content, otherwise we wouldn't be having a new set from the Mogstation like every month (which can't be stored in the armoire).

Glamour plates themselves are still awkward and brought down by limitations. They won't update unless you're specifically in a main city/residential area. If you actually like the base look of something you are currently equipped with, there's no work-around if that job shares even one other glamour plate; the appearance will be overwritten unless you manually use a glamour dispeller each time. And the limit of 10 plates is stifling, especially since most roles share their gear across 2-3 jobs.

ShB really ought to be coming with an expanded dresser and plate limit, especially if they aren't handing out more inventory space. That's 10 more levels of dungeon sets, and 2 more years of raid, tomestone, PvP, whatever gear coming. I really would prefer if gear sets truly were disconnected between jobs using the same gear. Like say, you have your WHM set- maybe using JSE AF glamoured on it, but then swap to say, SCH or AST; the gear with WHM AF on it has an error and you're forced with the unglamoured base gear. The glamour plates are supposed to alleviate this but god forbid you're not swapping jobs in a city/tomestone hub.

If they're asking a question like that, they likely think they can only do one or two of those things and not all three.

The system needs to be designed again from scratch. The current system is so mind-bogglingly bad I'm amazed they let it out the door. The whole thing looks like a high school CS project, not a professional game studio.

Which would involve redoing the entire way that gear data is stored, accessed and monitored. Likely delaying ANYTHING else being made since it would at least partially rely on the new system. How much of the playerbase do you think would be OK with waiting 3-6 months for ANYTHING other than a new inventory/glamour system to come out?

I'd be fine with it. Glamour is the true end game, has the only real longevity, and oh... brings in a lot of mogstation money. I know because I tend to buy every new outfit that comes out for both of my characters. Someone at SE should be reinvesting that money into making glamour more user-friendly (which, in turn, would help promote mogstation and generate more profits).

I'm going to say a decent portion of the playerbase would welcome better inventory and glamour systems.

To be fair it's been stitched together over time. But yes it needs a full overhaul to be functional.

With the current glamour system, i don't even buy all the outfits on the mogstation.

I would have no where to put them. My dresser is full, my retainers are pretty full, my chocobo saddlebag is also full.

Its sad to say, but improving the glamour system would probably kill sales on retainers, and i think that's why they hold off.

But that's just my salty opinion.

I don't think anyone is disagreeing with you on the fact that, realistically, MMO development is a balancing act aimed at retaining the largest possible playerbase month to month.

However, I feel you grossly underestimate the amount of resources SE has at its disposal. It's not even conjecture - we have seen clear evidence that they have the resources and manpower to commit to short-lived and catered to niche audiences (by Yoshi's own admission @ Eureka) content like Diadem, Eureka, Verminion and Rival Wings, just to list a few off the top of my head.

They can do that, time and time again, without compromising any of the core content that retains the majority of the playerbase, that being MSQ and casual 4-, 8- and 24-man content as well as, to a much lesser but still comparatively substantial extent, Savage and Extreme.

So... no. I do not buy for even a nanosecond that SE would have to sacrifice a noticeable segment of their playerbase if they decided to skip another iteration of Diadem for one expansion and instead reassigned those resources towards perfecting the game's glamour system (and resolving any related server or engine-side issues in the process).

TL;DR: If SE can waste their employees' time on Eureka, which was intended for a small subset of players and relevant for only a limited time, they could just as well waste it on finishing the half-baked glamour implementation, which would add lasting value to the game as a whole.

It's really not a server capacity thing at all. At least it isn't in WoW, because they designed their glamour system sensibly. Instead of keeping track of each individual item and its stats and what storage system it currently has to exist in and all that jazz, the thing basically functions... hmm, let's say like an achievement system, but even simpler. There's a big list of items on the server, and you either have a 0 if you've never obtained an item, or a 1 if you have. That's it. No need to store individual item data and have it in a storage locker or some nonsense like that. It's basically a small .txt file filled with what I assume is "item id 902=1" or "item id 14=0" rather than whatever crazy shenanigans FFXIV is doing.

As a matter of fact, I might go a step further and say Square has a vested interest in upgrading our inventories as slowly as possible, they have a monetary incentive in doing so, as they sell additional retainer slots at a premium... like a free-to-play game, if I might be so bold. We heard from Yoshi-P over and over and over, year after year about how the game has a sub because it's supposed to be a premium experience, yet we must still deal with being sold inventory space, a cash shop, and a borderline useless mobile app that requires you to use super limited free currency or spend real currency to get it somewhat functional. WoW also has a cash shop, but does not sell you inventory space and the mobile app just eats this one for breakfast, with no microtransactions at all, to boot, let alone for core functionality.

Why upgrade our storage and our glamour solutions when they've been selling us the intended solution for years? Better to make excuses about server capacity and hope people stop caring rather than actually addressing the issue. Not like a premium MMO can afford to hire additional people to handle issues like this, after all.

The more I think about it, the less pleased I become. Notice how for the low low price of $2/retainer you can essentially quintuple your inventory. But giving that functionality away for free? Oh, no. That would be stressful for the servers.

Ugh.

An alternative would be, to let us save more plates locally and just switch out the active ones, like the bluemage spell book does.

You are comparing an implementation on top of the existing systems to reworking a base game system. The problems we have with our glamour come from limitations on how the game tracks and manages our inventory. Reworking that is no small undertaking and would take far more than the team it takes to make a biggish patch. The redo of the inventory system is akin to tearing out the foundation and supports in a house , whereas the situation you're envisioning is more like adding a room.

The glamour system is not the problem, it's a system built on top of a crazily limited inventory system. We're definitely talking half a year (at very best) or more for a rework of that along with NO new content during the rework as any new content would have to use the new system.

Hell, get rid of this entire awful system. Storing items like this, just make a damn catalogue that shows if character has acquired this item yes/no. If yes, they can order it in via a wardrobe assistant, create an outfit, delete pieces.

It could have been fun. Collect all the pieces, get achievements, just like the Orchestrion. It would certainly entice players to old content.

They're going to have to address the inventory at some point though.

They can't just keep adding more and more items to the game, more and more crafting materials, fishing baits etc.

Without looking to address something as fundamental as how inventory works. Given how long and arduous a task it seems to be to add some extra size to existing systems (I.e. Glamour Dresser increasing from a paltry 200 items), all the issues they encounter with the repeated requests for more inventory space, more saddlebag space, more retainer space etc.

At some point, they have to make a decision to rewrite the base code, no small feat for sure, but one that saves TONS of time in the future when they'd have to keep finding workarounds to add in small extra bits of space constantly.

It's the same thing for Character Creation systems. As it stands, they have a hard time implementing things due to the trash code that its based on. Thus, at some point, the work necessary to do basic things like adding new hairstyles, will have taken up more time that it would have needed to completely rewrite the base code so that things like this would be simpler and more manageable.

That said, it's not as if these sorts of things have to be worked on full time by every member of the development team. You can have parts of the team work on it when there's a lull in development time (I mean, given they did BLU and Mahjong as side projects it shows that they aren't 100% busy 100% of the time doing core content)

Yes, it would mean it takes longer to complete... But how long? 2 years? 4 years? Given that ShB is about to release, a 2/4 year timeline would mean coinciding with 6.0/7.0 and could thus be used as a selling point.

A few things I believe would really help people out with the glamour system are:

IMPROVEMENT REQUESTS

• Increase Plate Limit to 15 or 20 (Or, at least one for every class)
• Increase the Total Items Permitted in the Glamour Dresser to 250 or 300
• In the Clamour Creation window, Add a drop-down which allows Creator to unselect already equipped/assigned items, or add an indicator next to all assigned/currently equipped items so the Creator knows which items not to deposit
• Set the Armoire to accept ALL MogStation clothing and weapons in addition to current clothing and weapons accepted
• Set a warning prompt whenever a Creator is about to remove an item from the Glamour Dresser that is already in use in a Glamour Plate

I genuinely feel that implementing these would significantly reduce player frustration with the Glamour system. :)

I just need an unlimited storage for all the weapons and gear I have, too much space taken up in my inventory.
