The One Thing BLU Got Right.

You have all your abilities when level synced.

And even then they're only OP at lv 30 and lower.

There's many things that BLU did right. The Masked Carnivale is a welcome addition to the game, for instance.

After you beat it once, it's 15 minutes of content a week for rewards you don't use at 70.

It caps at 50. Why should it give rewards for Lv70?

I think the point is more "it doesn't give rewards at 70; why bother doing it?"

Allied seals and poetics are always useful. Mount speed maps, aetheryte tickets, and ventures. Gear for the new jobs, battle materia for lvl 70 jobs, etc.

As much of a dig as this is at BLU, It was also a "I hope regular jobs get this someday."

I think it depends on your perspective. Of you view blue mage as a new type of content its great, but as the implementation of a actual new job...it leaves much to be desired.


The only 2 ways I see it going is: they either keep coming out with more blue mage content, additions to the carnivale with unique rewards (unique glamour for the more challenging fights would be a good start) or they eventually remove the limited aspect of the job, lift the group restrictions and give it a more coherent play style. I'm banking on the former happening tbh.

It's going to be updated over time and is much along the same lines as FSH. Not designed for everybody, but a fun challenge for those who enjoy such things. A classic side activity in an RPG. To pretend as if it doesn't give rewards is deceptive, too - it does. That you're not interested in those rewards is a different matter entirely. Even as someone who is actively involved in hunts, the allied seals are valuable to me as they pay for aetheryte tickets and ventures. Then, of course, there's the glamour rewards, achievement points and titles to consider.

I'm looking forward to seeing what other rewards we get in the future. Maybe orchestrion rolls for the battle music that plays in the arena?

Though I think the excuse for not keeping all your skills while level sync'd is for it to be less unfair when grouping with lower level players whom just don't have access to those skills.

Ignoring completely the whole thing with ilevel sync making you absurdly powerful compared to on level players as it stands anyway >.>

Masked Carnivale is literally the furthest from being a challenge there could possibly be. Given that not only does Final Sting/Self Destruct cheese exist, but also the weekly "Challenges" literally force them to design stages in a way where you can just brute force your way through using a limited skillset and ignoring literally any of the "Puzzle" factor of picking the correct skills to deal with the encounter.

Well i enjoyed it gave some life to the overworld for two days

Eh, I cap on them just from S ranks alone and I have over 1000 grade 6 combat materia by now.

Enix's issue is throwing tomes, seals and materia at almost everything as a reward. There are only so many you need.

But they can though, so it's not entirely correctly to say they "don't". For players that only own the base ARR game, they have a level cap of 50, they have access to BLU so therefore they have a limit. Granted it's a small population, but BLU wasn't made with the latest expac in mind therefore everyone has different limits to their gameplay.

I guess the issue is with the design of BLU being capped.

Like, with things like Roulettes, they give rewards that aren't useful for level 70 characters - Poetics and experience. But then doing them at level 70 they give Mendacity and Genesis tomes instead of experience.

With BLU, it only gives these outdated currencies with no possibility of leveling your BLU up to a cap that is relevant for normal jobs, in order to get an altered reward.

Which kind of shoots BLU in the foot a bit, by reducing the desire for players whom don't need or care about these outdated currencies to actually play the job when its only unique thing is obtaining these currencies.

Yeah, at best, I can see them trying to frontload skills somewhat. Putting a larger portion of learned skills in the 1-50 levels and then utilizing more traits for levels 50+

So you not only come online as a new player faster, gaining access to more skills at a more engaging rate (As opposed to the current system where inexplicably, each expansion makes it slower to get skills by removing a bunch...) but also when players get sync'd down, they lose less of their skills.

With character progression during 50+ being more focused on upgrading skills and synergies as opposed to unlocking new skills (Or job gauges >.>)

But we'll see what they end up doing in ShB soon enough.

Yes, because being balanced doesn't mean anything; this wouldn't work in group content.

I think at low levels they should reorganise the low level spells for classes so there's more interesting spells at level 15.

It should stay and it works very well imo, but it feels boring when level synced at the first instance levels.
