What is everyone’s thoughts on the next possible healer class? I’d say something cute or fun.
Ready the memes in preparation for the inevitable rush job that will be the healer role's new kits come 5.0.
Will we get a healing job with little to no means of burst healing in raids again?
Will we get a healing job with little to no AoEing in dungeons again?
Will we get a healing job with no utility and little else to offset that?
Will one of the healers get a poorly thought out and literally game changing healing oGCD again?
Will Yoshida make good on his promise to Aoi Yuuki? (Yuuki-san plays WHM, and Yoshida hesistated but hinted that WHM will be made much easy to play.)
We'll find out in the patch notes =(
White Mage is a bursty, reactionary healer. Scholar takes the role of preventing damage via shields. Astro is a mix of both and gives the party buffs via cards. I think the natural progression of the next healer should involve debuffing the enemy while healing. Just a few ideas off the top of my head
- Able to apply debuffs such as vulnerability and all resistance downs (piercing, slashing, blunt, magical) .
- Has a debuff that is applied to a mob (that can be spread with a Bane type ability for SCH), with reduced effectiveness the more enemies it is put on, that heals all attackers for 20% to 40% of all damage done per skill/spell attack. Higher % of course being with CD buffs to self.
- Could focus on HoT spells that can be enhanced to provide stronger healing/better duration with CDs or consume certain ones to provide a huge burst of healing.
- Paladin type cover ability which will link you to another player, changeable at will of course, for a short period of time which will split damage taken 50% for each. Some tank busters will avoid this but others are suddenly 50% less effective.
- Able to transfer DoTs on friendly targets to yourself, or an ability to swap debuffs into buffs. Hit with a morlbro's breath? Suddenly your target has 9 buffs!
Would be pretty interactive I'd think, juggling all that.
Still stand by Chemist and Geomancer. But I wouldn't rule-out an original job either.
Beside an original healer, I'd really love to have the Chemist as next healer..
If the rest of the playerbase's reaction to Healers being annoyed at being shafted again is any indiciation.
We should be ready to lick the bottom of Yoshi's boots and thank him for the opportunity.
But on a serious note, I don't think we can really be expecting anything until 6.0 now. Unless you think having more samey healing given to use in the guise of balacing counts as a thing
Well there is a rework of the battle system.
I'm not expecting anything that will shake healing fundation but who knows.
Maybe healer will change so much that it would be akin having new healers.
Like AST diurnal / noc and SCH eos/selene drastically changing healing (beyond 1~2 spells or hot vs shield) with something new to WHM
Again, I'm not expecting that, but who knows. They can't be oblivious to the point of not knowing healer were expecting a new healer after SB
Of course they were expecting it, we should've been expecting as well after the red flag of the Trust system was introduced. They knew healers would be p***ed so they introduced a system to allow people to level without them. Sucky that they decided that creating an AI for dungeons was a lot less work than giving 1/3rd of the trinity some attention.
I saw someone mention Green Mage as a magic and hammer user from FF Tactics in another post, and thought it could be interesting. The hammer also made me thinking of Meru from 'The Legend of Dragoons' game whom also uses a hammer (she's also cute and fun). Maybe a healer that constantly channel their single-/multi-target heals and such by resting their hammer on the ground with a leylines looking circle surrounding them, and if the enemies come too close hits them with the hammer? Lobbing magic by hitting it with their hammer, for Cure III/melee aoe ground pound attack type magic? Pounding the ground for Medica/Helios type healing? Sorry if I'm not making much sense, these ideas just popped into my head, and I wanted to air my thoughts.
Whats next should be fixing BLU. If green mage somehow gets in as a real job before BLU I'll be very upset
I support Chemist. Or, at least as I'm imagining it, a somewhat fresh take on it (since I doubt they'd just have us lobbing potions at people), which they might rebrand under another name.
But anyway, I'd like a more "non-magic" healer. Using gadgetry, maybe somewhat like Machinist, like a device that creates a healing field and maybe can amplify/switch another function (okay maybe I'm stealing from MCH's turrets a bit much there). Maybe they could "auto attack" allies to provide heals with a healing-based weapon; a lot of weapons in older ffs have this trait. Maybe it could be like a "biotic gun/gadget" (think Ana and Baptiste from Overwatch) that has like "Potion Shot", a round infused with Potion continuing the traditional Chemist schtick but keeping it logical in a real time combat environment. And an "Ether Shot" for resource. They could still keep cast times on most things for balance if necessary.
Arithmetician - pure MAFFS
Memes aside, my preference would be Geomancer with a strong mitigation toolkit (ignoring the fact that mitigation in XIV is a mess to begin with). The whole thing about Gaia and the hammer makes me think of "Cleric", but that seems to be less of a unique and identifiable job considering how WHMs have the priestly/Christianity image on lockdown.
I wouldn't mind seeing Necromancer as a new edgelord healer.
I think it would be a nice change of pace from the "Everything is sunshine and daffodils" that is the current healing jobs.
Inb4 "Asian culture prohibits depictions of undead" (Ignoring all current undead, necromancy and wayward spirits currently featured in the game already)
I really like the idea of Chemist and Geomancer (actually, I'd be thrilled to have a Geomancer, even as a DPS!).
Necromancer would be awesome thought.
well, lets look through some possibilities.
Chemist (i hope for this one the most personally.)
Geomancer
(these two being the most commonly talked about)
Oracle
Psychic
Necromancer
Seer
Sage
Orator (i wounder how many even remember this job existed.)
from there theres still plenty of possibilities for a brand new job made for ff14.
All of these are awesome everyone! I didn’t expect this post to explode like this! Thanks everyone!
Copy/pasting something I commented on a YouTube video:
Quote:
I wish XIV took a page from LotRO. I think Captain and Rune-keeper (and even the WHM equilevant Minstrel) had some very interesting mechanics to work with. Captain being a melee healer (when slotted in the healing skill tree), Rune-keeper using short heals over time (which stacked), an aoe hot channel that required you to stay still and inanimate runestones that also did small aoe hot heals wherever it was placed. Minstrels built up ballads that buffed its healing output. Really, it shouldn't be that impossible to come up with something new that doesn't break the game entirely.
Like... Dancer could've been a melee healer that uses only 1-3 heals or just damage skills from melee range, but are still capable of healing from a distance as not to have to suffer too many melee-mechanics. Or have them use multiple hots from melee range, so they can then step back and continue healing from a range. Y'know... kinda dancing back and forth with range. :p Oh well, that's nothing more than an empty dream now.
My solution is just to play dps and deal with the queues.... I'm sick of the same 3 healers
I'd like to see a witch job; someone who creates magic healing circles and sigils with salts and herbs, chants magic spells, makes lotions, brews potions (and possibly soup), flings blessings, curses, and hexes, and even manipulates objects to defend themselves and others. Bonus points if they let our characters cackle when we successfully brew a potion or something.
If we're going to take inspiration from other games...
Warhammer Online had some great healers.
Warrior Priest could sit back with a 1 handed hammer and book and cast spells using a resource that they had to channel to restore (Much like a Samurai's Meditate) or fill via casting ranged spells... Or they could grab a big ol' 2 handed hammer and go smashin' faces and healing in an area around themselves.
Disciples of Khaine were similar only they used 1 handed sword and chalice (But weren't very good at the sitting back and casting schtick) or go in dual wielding swords and being a whirlwind of steel and death. Oh, and people around them got healed, if there were any and they didn't just run off to go 1v5 a bunch of people xD But they also had a bunch of buffs, debuffs and HoTs to use while they were slicing and dicing people.
Shamans were cool. Every time they used a spell they build up a meter towards one of their 2 gods. Healing spells built towards the damage god and thus empowered your damaging spells and vice versa. This meant that you were constantly shifting between healing and harming based on what bonuses you had and what you wanted to build up.
Can it be something that has outfits that people won't call me gay for wearing, at least? I love you, ast, but your level 60 set makes it look like I'm literally cross dressing.
need a angst healer somthing like chemist or a mad scientist type of healing
I seriously would LOVE a dark healer class! Could be plague doctor-esque Chemist, could be some twist on Necromancer or an original caster class where healing and damage both work by manipulating the aether in the bodies of targets. Could be used to repair damage, could be used to inflict horrible contortions and/or status afflictions.
My biggest concern over GEO is that from the descriptions given in the AST quest line it is a little too much like CNJ with a dash of AST - and AST is already rather a lot like WHM with a dash of SCH. Healers already have enough issues with unique identity, I feel GEO might make that worse.
Realistically however, if we are getting a new healer in 6.0 (and let's face it healers are so dreadfully hard to balance that 2 years from now we might be hearing the same thing for the third time "we need another expac to balance healers") then it will be GEO. I think there are too many hints for this job to go with anything else.
Geomancer - but only if it's a rugged version, not another dainty mage with a bell or staff and standard healer spell effects. Weapon is a Two Handed Hammer.
Their gear aesthetic would be cloth, but with maybe a heavier look and feel - closer to medium armor, stylistically. Maybe even make Geomancers live or practice their craft underground and give their artifact helm/hood a detachable breathing mask.
Their standard cast animation is a wind-up where they smack the ground with their hammer to cause a burst of aether to erupt from the ground underneath their target. Kind of like a healing geyser.
Chemist - A magitek caster. I envision them as wearing some sort of magitek device that they load potion vials/cartridges into. Maybe a massive magitek glove, with a ring of vials around it, similar to scholar's HW artifact armor gloves, but bigger and more detailed.
Maybe a belt/bandolier of potions for their artifact armor or coupled with their weapons.

It would have an opening that either fired the contents of the vials combined with the users Aether or used the fluids to charge the Chemist's healing magics.
Perhaps a segment of the glove would spin around the user's arm like a turbine during cast animations. Basically, a healing Barret arm but with the hand still attached. An easy AoE idea is to spray a healing mist, perhaps the game's first conal healing aoe?
Just some off-hand ideas.
I would like to see a Chemist.
Your tank is fighting something. You throw a potion at them. When it hits the ground, it heals the target for a small amount and leaves a puddle of healing goo behind that slowly makes a player standing in it have their HP tick back up.
A tankbuster comes. You throw a drinking straw at your tank, and they consume the remaining puddle all at once for burst healing. Or instead, you throw a second potion into the mix to create a new effect that is unlike either of the potions you mixed (temporary boost to max HP, or some sort of damage resistance, and so on)
Alternatively, you throw Nihopalaoa from FFXII at the puddle to make it damage enemies instead.
I'd like to see something along those lines. A ground effect based healer that can mix potions to create different combinations of effects.
In terms of aesthetic, I wanted something like Dancer that wasn't defined by robes and cloaks. So I'm not that interested in a Chemist or Geomancer healer, because that's what I'd expect them to be. I don't really have any specific ideas for what I'd want now though. Something original I suppose.
Between CNJ covering most of their potential and AST stealing the rest as well as Oracle/Time Mage alongside it, all I can say about Geomancer is /doubt.
Calculator is literally covered by Arcanist's lore already. Their magic is math.
Psychic is kind of a weak include and some of its aspects don't necessarily work without proper justification and I don't see it happening anytime soon as a result. It needs proper build up. And by proper build up I mean lore supporting it before it shows up.
Alchemist doesn't completely obviate Chemist but reconciling those two will matter. Implementing Mix sounds like hell or Mudras so also hell but rehashed better.
Necromancer could absolutely be a healer and even lean in on the hemomancy element but I doubt SE wants another SCH or AST mess so I doubt they'll actually do it proper justice. I'd expect another caster DPS with a raise just as much as a healer tbh. Probably with a plague mechanic which instead of applying a dot instead applies some generic Corruption/Darkness/Shades of Black debuff that we consume for heavy hitting nukes, sorta like BLM in reverse with hints of stuff like SMN's Fester. It really depends on where SE wants to lean with them.
The only other option I can really see is Sage. As what people expected from Red Mage, drawing on a balance of black/white magic, sort of. I get that's covered by Scholar and White Mage to an extent, so I imagine the direction they'll take with it will instead lean instead into a traditional 'Cleric' theme. ie, a mage that draws its powers directly from the gods themselves. What would work for this? Well, what about drawing power from both Hyedalyn and Zodiark at once? Or the Twelve? Or another avatar that represents balance between Light and Dark that isn't Sophia? I don't see it happening this expansion but I can absolutely see it happening in 6.0 with the right build up, given where the story is headed we're all but guaranteed to loop through the Warrior of Darkness plot we had in Heavensward so I could see this being introduced as part of what we do in an attempt to break the cycle we're on in 5.x without committing to the Ascian's solution.
