I 100% agree with you. I hate it when male and female roles are forced this way. Unless those unique character customization features let me make a Hrothgar that is feminine, and beautiful as a male, I will not like this.

Sadly, I just unsubbed too. After a nearly full 5 years of playing. Gender-locked races is too much to handle. I thought XIV was better than this.

As it stands, I think I'll only be resubbing for the XV event and coming back once a year for my favorite holiday event (All Saints' Wake). I know SE doesn't particularly care about losing old players, but it still hurts to see them go down the path of "yeah, but no one would ever want to play Male Miqo'te... No one would ever want to play a Female Roegadyn" all over again.

Hopefully they get a lot of new players with the inclusion of the new Hrothgar and Viera. (ノಥ_ಥ)ノ彡ΛIXℲℲ

Considering I'm an older player than all of you, I don't think SE is going to be losing too many old players. I think they're only going to be losing people that never really cared about FF to begin with.

You presume far too much about others. Everyone who came to this forum is probably an enthusiast. While they won't quite be losing me, since the franchise has made itself part of my life, this is not something that can be let down.

Pretty much this. Were you ever truly a fan of the franchise if you are going to quit a entire expansion that they worked hard on just because they didn't live up to every single players wants by giving them a specific race for their gender? Is it disappointing? Yeah sure, going into anything with expectations and finding out that your expectations weren't met would disappoint anyone, but quitting a entire expansion because of it? That's kind of ridiculous.

I've played every single main FF game from I to XV, played all the Tactics spin-offs, 4 Heroes of Light, Bravely Default, World of FF, the mobile games, own Advent Children twice (Original and Complete), own Spirits Within, and Kingsglaive. I'm considering unsubbing because gender-locks are an absurd decision, does that negate all the love I had for the series?

I really hate the "no true fan" argument because it's really a "no true scotsman" fallacy disguised with more sentimentalism.

No offense, but it sounds like it wasn't making you happy to begin with if something so trivial like this was enough to trigger an unsub before the expansion even hit because the developers didn't cater specifically towards what you liked. It just sounds like you weren't loyal to begin with.

There could have been parts of the expansion you'd find fun later down the road, but you'll never know now.

This has absolutely nothing to do with any kind of "bad sign for the future" or "bad choices". This is people being upset because they didn't live up to your expectations and give you what you wanted. People like to go all doom and gloom as for the games direction whenever SE doesn't give them what they want. It's not just FF either, every single MMO's player base does this and it's extremely immature and embarassing.

As an equally old player (just because I didn't join the forums right away doesn't mean I haven't been here since the beginning) I must say this is an extremely stupid way to look at it. If you're a "real fan" you should just lay down and take every bad decision they throw at us? I guess we weren't real fans to begin with since we let 1.0 die.

Excuse me? How? Gender locked races where the male is a hulking monster and the female is a god damn sex doll are incredibly bad signs, ESPECIALLY when the original iterations of these races are not gender locked. Not to mention, the new storyline for SHB is basically tryhard bullshit where you have to ~express the evil to balance the good~ and then let's not even get started on how they have decided to make a tank and no new healer?

There's many many things that are telling of messy, ill thought and bad decisions, it's just these races are the biggest glaring misogynistic pile of 2007 garbage out of them all.

I can almost guarantee everyone here saying they are unsubbing is going to be resubbing before June 28th.

Very much this. I remember first joining FFXIV because I constantly heard they didn't really do the typical "same armour on man is a bikini on women" type of thing, and that men could even be skimpy if they wanted. It goes much further than cosmetics (though that's certainly part of it) in that it's so obnoxiously typical of games to make the man a visual powerhouse and the woman some eye candy for the male players.

This is the first time im tempted to race change for the ronso personally, that being said im a firm advocate of vote with your wallet :) So you do you, I stopped playing wow for a simple reason, i felt it wasn't a game for me anymore. I do ask for people to be at least honest though, development time and resources are finite and a beast race is something Yoshi P has been asking for since the 2.0 remake. Acting like this choice was done to spite you personally is absurd, they said right on the keynote their reasoning for this. Last time making a race and limited resources. No conspiracy, no homophobia (fack if ppl knew some of the norms they fight in japan as is!) Was plainly and simply explained, resources and choices made.

It is only seen as a sexist act. Women must also have a variety of options.

These races are homages to the originals that they were based off of: Ronso and 12's Fran.

Stop using buzzwords you have no business of using because you're talking with feelings rather than logic right now.

Thank you for putting it this way. The absence of male viera is a mistake but the inclusion of gender-locked Ronso takes it further and turns it into an insult. Not how SE wants their consumers to be feeling, I think.

Just adding me voice to the "Thanks I hate it" crowd. FFXIV has made a big mistake with this one.

Everything they said is completely on-point. This is an homage? To Ronso? The Hrothgar look nothing like Ronso. They look horrible. And there were female Ronso all over FFX that looked awesome. You're way off base here.
