BLU definitely got it worse imo, but I definitely understand the disappointment with Dancer being a ranged dps. It has probably been way too long since healers were thrown a bone.
I guess it would not be limited anyhow because dps was more important in their eyes...
As someone who really wanted a new healer to go with Gunbreaker, the fact that it didn’t become a limited job still isn’t enough for me. Healers just got stabbed hard, and healer mains, understandably, are NOT taking this well at all. (Save for the occasional one who thinks that healers shouldn’t get any new jobs)
My heart completely shriveled the moment DNC was revealed as a DPS. No amount of “at least it isn’t a limited job” is going to stop the sheer amount of salt pouring out of me tonight. I realize BLU got it worst, technically, but I’m going to be very salty over here regardless.
Yes but on the bright side we have a Throwing Dagger DPS Job now.
I can only assume now 6.0 maybe where the new healer is and it better be unique and good if they held it off this long.
They added yet more classes. So much for that precious balance and identity.
The gender lock is just the icing on the cake.
Since BLU is the only one being thrown under the bus, thus far, just pray your favourite job isn't the next in line, everyone.
If you want change you're going to have to protest and demonstrate your concerns. I only wonder what the Japanese are actually thinking about this entire ordeal right now.
I am feeling bitter sweet disappointment.
I am happy with the animation, the clothing style, the fact they support the party and the job itself.
But the role? I was hoping deep in my heart for a healer, it's a shame.
Yeah that... was kinda a low blow. Astro was just SCH and WHM mash up to begin with but even counting that, you're talking four years with no new healer unless they pull a fast one and drop an additional full class in 5.0. People get tired and you /need/ people to not get tired of playing healer just as much as tank, especially with a new dps incoming. I mean guess only upside is I might see some in need bonuses for healer more often but whatever new stuff the existing ones get better be off the charts well designed and fun. I see one more reused animation in my WHM or gods forbid another stone, I'm going to scream.
I dont care that dancer isn't a healer... but no healer at all... that is just absurd after this long.
I'm actually happy that dancer is a ranged phys dps. It looks great and has elegance that can compete with rdm. I've been wanting another ranged phys dps in the game for a while now.
That isn't to say I'm happy we got no new healers. But I was concerned about the idea of adding a new healer when we got some obvious balance issues with the current three. Mainly how whm is very much in the shadow of the other two. I'd rather SE get that right first before tossing in another healer into the mix. So in one sense I'm relieved, but in another I'm a tad disappointed.
If I wasn't so in love with sch I would be very disappointed.
Most of my salt is being tossed on the confirmed gender locking on races but that's another conversation altogether.
Healers are in a good spot. Yes no new class but there isnt a need. the number doesnt matter but the flow and quality and healer has it down.
Also, dancing on people's graves? that is ridiculous. Range is much more suitable
I didn't care about dancer, I cared about healing. Utter disappointment. People who got limited blue at least got something in the form of BLU. People who wanted dancer as a healer at least have dancer. People like me who only wanted a new healer got literally nothing. I want to wait until the interviews come out before I go off too much, but 5.0 hype is destroyed right now.
The salt will be met with the same hardcore defenders that somehow still think BLU being limited is okay. First, they came for BLU then healers; next is you.
Guys i can understand no new healer announced this time. But when they showed Gaia Yoshi talked alot about how they can make the hammer work so possibly a new healer they might spring at the last few months before release.
Personally i was hoping for dnc healer to go with the new Gunbreaker but either way dont just give up hope yet because Yoshi hides too much in what he says.
Anyway heres to hoping for a hammer healer for all you healer mains who keep tanks like me alive.
Personally, I am a little disappointed that Dancer isn't a healer class, but I'm also glad that it's a ranged DPS. That way there's at least thee jobs in each role. Hopefully the Devs give us another healer in the future.
They're literally shooting themselves on the foot.
Their competitors have nothing to show for themselves, BFA is a massive flop, GW2 is stagnant and nothing is out. ESO is stagnant just as much.
And what happens? They manage to accomplish this.
And in regards to BLU it would have been better to not get BLU at all instead of getting this "limited" experience that didn't last a second and serves only to anger the BLU fans.
ESO is getting a new chapter very soon btw Elseiwheir (or however it is spelled) Khajit homeland with dragons.
Considering how closely it resembles Bard in older FFs with buff / debuff songs/dances, I'm surprised it wasn't the most-expected role for it to be honest. I think more people are bothered that there's no healing job at all, as opposed to Dancer not being one.
You don't like it because you don't understand it's potential or what they meant by limited.
While I don't main/play healer often, I completely understand why healers are disappointed.
When this summer rolls around, it'll have been 4 years since a healer was added to the game. If you've been playing for that long and only played healing classes exclusively, that's 4 years of the same 3 healers. Sure they've gotten new skills and reworks over the years, but they aren't anything new.
I've been playing tanks for over 5 years and I have to admit that halfway through Stormblood I was having role-fatigue. All the tanks felt the same to me and I had been doing it for so long that I was just bored with it. I'm sure there are healer mains out there who feel/felt similar to that too. However, when Gunbreaker was announced I was really excited that the role I had mained was getting something new. Sure, come Shadowbringers I might not like it, I might fall back into that same role-fatigue, and I might feel like they're all the same and not want to play tank again. But for now, the excitement has made me pick back up tanking and I eagerly look forward to Gunbreaker. Sometimes a little bit of hype is a good motivator.
Now healers that are in that same boat were probably giddy as heck when they started watching the Dancer teaser. It's been 4 years since we had a new healer job, we just got 2 DPS for Stormblood (3 if you really want to include BLU) and they just announced a new tank. It makes perfect sense to assume that the second job would be a healer. I can't even imagine how devastating it would be to hear that we're getting a 3rd (or 4th, again, if you want to include BLU) DPS in 2 expansions and tanks are once again getting something that you're not despite healers being considered a high demand role as well (I'm looking at you, 6 tank exclusive mounts).
I don't think healers are necessarily upset that Dancer isn't a healer, they are more upset that they are being left out. If we had gotten a healer and DPS for Shadowbringers instead, I know I'd be upset as a tank. I'd be sitting here thinking, "Tanks are the most in demand role, that's why we have exclusive mounts and why they added clusters to some of the roulettes. Sure healers are in demand too, but they aren't as rare as us tanks and we have more DPS than braincells in the Duty Finder. Why are they doing this?" Sure we don't need a 4th healer. But do we need a 4th tank? A 10th (11th if you, again, count BLU) DPS? No. But it does get you excited to try that role/try something different in that role.
So to those who main healers, play healers, love healers and are disappointed. I am so sorry. I hope the job adjustments are wonderful for you and make you feel better, but I completely understand your frustration.
People already worked out what it means.
It means a job that you can only use for a couple of hours and then leave to rot because even if you wanted to play it there would be nothing to do.
It also means that it WILL lag behind the other jobs, so it will not be able to do current content or even follow the STORY.
It also means that you can't do stuff like Eureka, or HoH, etc.
It means going through RNG for abilities that need not be RNG.
Finally, it also means they're willing to butcher other jobs for the sake of cheap content, as it all sets a terrible and dangerous precedent on how they can treat ICONIC jobs.
All of this masquerading it all under the pretense of "balance" and "enjoyment".
Bonus: It lets people understand that "limited jobs" the way they are now, have been ultimately unnecessary and do not corroborate what Yoshi-P said regarding the indivisible necessity because they're so "intrisecally" tied together so that certain jobs may exist.
I don't care that Dancer wasn't a healer, I care that there has been no healer reveal period.
I was so jazzed when I saw Dancer in the trailer and thought... "Finally, finally they've done something potentially unique with a healer class". To have SE turn around and be like "Lulz, no healer for you, it's a DPS". My anticipation/excitement tanked, like 100 to 0. I honestly don't care about the expac anymore at this point; they've actually ruined it for me.
I am so friggin' salty I can't even right now and if I see one more thread about gender-locking on Viera and how unfair it is while the Healer elephant in the room just quietly stands there I'll probably table flip.

Except a big part of the problem with healers right now is that AST is trying to fill the role of both regen and mitigation, and there isn't really a way to do that without either gutting it somewhere else (WHM/N.AST lacks SCH's burst healing) or making it so strong that it's just plainly better than the other two (See D.AST vs WHM right now). The design problem AST had in HW never really went away; trying to balance one job to fill two roles, but only one at a time, is probably impossible. But adding a 4th job could solve that issue by allowing AST to focus on just one side.
I'd like a 4th healer...but I'd also like them to actually fix AST so it can stand on its own two feet without having to be a "clone" of the other two healers. And by that, I mean drop the damned Sects, that's the reason why the job is in such a spot. Try to fix Diurnal? Too bad, you made certain skills of it OP/worthless. Try to fix Nocturnal? I'm sorry, you've done the same thing. Only when they drop the Sects and start turning it into its own thing (pseudo Time Mage or Gambler anybody?) will it finally be able to be balanced.
Off that tangeant...disappointed that DNC is not a healer. But the concept of it being a ranged DPS IS interesting.
AS much as I would have loved Dancer as a Healer, Ive come to realize that it would pretty much be Ast 2.0
Because it would pretty j7uch be doing everything an Ast can do. Just replace The Draw System with Dances.
So after some reflection, as much as I want a new healer and not another DPS....I support the decision now.
Still looking forword to it.
I wonder if perhaps the reason a healer and tank job combo hasn't materialized is due to them wanting to prevent a repeat of the storm blood ques issue, and there solution is to change the formula. SB gae us 2x DPS. 5.0 is giving us 1x tank and 1 x dps so 6.0 should give us 1 x heal and 1 x dps. This would alleviate the queue death that occurs when we only get DPS. The other solution is for them to return to the HSW formula and give us the holy trinity each expansion.
Damn, I got baited. I thought this was actually a useful thread, but it was just a Blue Mage complain in disguise.
Or just stop adding yet_more_dps. We have 10/11 now, in a place where organized raids cant take more than 4 or 5.Quote:
so 6.0 should give us 1 x heal and 1 x dps.
If healers and tanks can go entire expansions without having new toys to play with, dps can be content with still having almost 3 times as many options.
I am bittersweet. I feel bad for healers seeing how many healers wanted a new job. I know your pain I really do. I am a Bard main and I was shocked and happy to see we got one. I actually thought DNC would have been a healer and it would have been us physical range that went without a new job. After the casting nightmare of 3.0, and the nightmare of 4.0 MCH where it felt like Bard was our only job; I was overjoyed to actually see a new range job. Though I feel absolutely horrible healers didn't get their job. Like we stole it from them. I actually get kind of nervous talking about DNC as a range and what it'll be like because someone told me not to talk about it or I might come across as gloating while all the healers are upset atm and I could risk getting kicked from discords, free companies, and linkshells over it. It's even made a taboo topic in Novice Network and one of my discord servers... Feels like I'm getting the cold shoulder. :x
sad truth is, dancer doesnt fit into the regular class paradigm of FFXIV, healers just wanted a new class, and thays a fair desire.
i personally would have enjoyed a dancer that broke the rules of ffxiv and was a hybrid, or support oriented class, and used some interesting new dance mechanics, but within ffxiv ruleset, the closest thing woyld probably be a supporty dps like bard, which is what they delivered.
though i might love it, i am sure many people, as you say should be happy it isnt limited.
perhaps though the real answer is that maybe they need to destroy the tank/healer/dps paradigm, as well as have jobs that operate under different combat paradigms. then few jobs would need to be limited, and they could design jobs true to the spirit of the job, rather than needing to shoehorn it into one role.
I mean, by that logic, we're at 0 ranged tanks and 0 melee healers.
