Can we get her killed with the trust system?
The return of the "return to walking sands so I can speak to you something I could at linkpearl"-type missions.
Looking foward for it.
Like why / how she is still alive? And in this childlike form? Are you excited she returns, etc.
already talking about in lore section...

As i said back in that post...
She's an eye candy. Hopefully she won't be a brain-killer though. But she went too far with photoshoping her photo...yup, yup...
Seriously though, Minfillia was really an "eye candy" from the get-go in 2.0. She had the misfortune of the developers misusing her though. With no frickin' idea of how to develop MMO's over the years, they made all the worst mistakes they could with her character development, making her early incarnation a really, really irksome being.
But I hope that they have learned more about what to do and what not to do with MMO characters by now. I expect her to actually be more "mature" and less of a "leech" towards the main character...even though she'll be the damsel in distress. But hey, 'damsel in distress' can be very well done. Technically the runt from Dark Knights story was that, yet she was quite a decent secondary character.
FFXIV 5.0 Waifubringers
I hope Thancred is going to be the father figure she never had that can teach her to respect other people's time and use her goshdarn linkpearl the way it's supposed to be used.
Looking good looking gooood
The first time I've ever wished murder on a child in a video game (and I played Skyrim.)
I'm not a lolicon but... i want to protect that smile.

Seriously, I thought we were done with her. I wanted absolutely nothing to do with her again.
I’m happy she’s back but at the same time. I don’t really care.
Good to see FFXIV finally catch up to the 2019 anime winter line up of loli's, moe and harems. Joking aside, very interested in the story this time around as it's back on the scions and ascians, and not just events happening around the WoL.
I'll never understand all the Minfillia hate. I'll admit she was a poorly written character, which is why I'm excited for her to be back and for Shadowbringers to add some much-needed development/depth to her. Must protect.
My 2 Hypotesis without time traveling.
I.- The Light Avatar: This minfilia is just a different manifestation of Hydaelyn that the one we know, "our minfilia" is gone still, probably still busy trying to recover the shard of derplander. Thancred just has an extra motivation to protect Hydaely's avatar.
II.- The Evil Light Avatar: This minfilia is just a different manifestation of Hydaelyn that the one we know, "our minfilia" is gone but was defeated or betrayed by the Hydaelyn and now she is using these Avatars as heralds of her victory over Zodiark, we gotta stop Hydaelyn while also preventing the awakening of Zodiark and for this we have to go to another Shard and tip the balance there as a Warrior of Darkness, this would lead to us exploring maybe, regions of Hydaelyn "The planet" still undiscovered by us and in a different version. Thancred is being manipulated or even better yet, maybe is willingly protecting this Evil Minfilia and we will eventually have to face them both.
I know is pretty probably not gonna be like this because time traveling is probably be a thing, but i think we will have to travel shard by shard trying to restore balance while not awakening Zodiark nor letting Hydaelyn just roll over.
This is interesting, because we could potentially visit the true "Void" one day.
I still say it is one of those "same name but different person" type of plots. Yes she is Minfilia but when it comes to her personality she is a completely different person from the Minfilia we saw leave us in 3.X.
The "rebirth for second chance" plot has been done before in different stories but it is a matter of how does the rebirth affect the person.
A) The person is completely reborn with no memory of their past life thus they grow up to be completely different person with different ideals, skills, and knowledge.
or
B) the person is completely reborn with all memories of their past life and remains the same person.
My guess it is going the A path with Minfilia's rebirth as a child of light maybe due to sacrificing everything to save WoD shard from the Flood of Light thus leaving only enough to be reborn as a child again with all aspect of her old self gone so she grows up into a different person depending on the actions of WoL.
Don't forget the one aspect of 5.0 story is that the WoL goal is to protect Minfilia as shown in one of 5.0's art. It would be interesting if players are given choices in dialogues through 5.0 that may determine how child Minfilia will grows up into X type of person.
Probably just some Buddhist style reincarnation mixed with WoL aether reconstitution ability.
I am tired of protecting a weak individual who adds nothing to the party. I prefer Alphinaud, even with him messing up the scions pretty badly.
Minfillia was just a bad character and had no real character development like the other scions. Almost as if her death gave the WoL a new voice. But now that she's back its like and represents light and since we are now the WoD, I hope she is the enemy and I will sadly go through Thancred to slay the Waking Sands Tyrant again.
She's just here to vaccum the light, she'll explode right after!
Tbh, I'm less than thrilled about her return. I knew she would be back a some point, but I was hoping that when she did return she wouldn't have any significant screen time. Sadly, it seems like she is going to be fairly important in Shadowbringers. After the train wreak that was Lyse I don't have much hope that Minfilia's return will improve her character. But hey, at least Urianger got a makeover.
It is thancred's role. Not ours.
If anything, we have been shown in very different places, WoL/D was in something that looks pretty alien to me, either new regions and a new world.
Thancred was in a different instance or version of Gelmorran origin it seems.
He could perfectly be defending a manifestation of Hydaelyn we as Warriors of Darkness need to defeat.
The whole Elidibis wearing a white robe amongst black Ascians and the warrior of darkness amongst the scions is Reminiscent of.....

She's been in the world of darkness and we're apparently becoming the hero of darkness. sort of seems obvious
Seeing her name there in the title makes me realise: Ward. Protection. How long have we known her full name for?
It's been suggested elsewhere that the desolate landscape the WoL is in resembles Mor Dhona.
And actually, after a lot of puzzling over it from the first trailer, I'm fairly sure that Thancred and Minfilia are in Limsa. The doorway and lamps visible in one of the shots, and the architecture in general, seem to be a close match to what can be found in the city. Certainly far closer than anywhere else I could find.
If so, then the shot of them running up stairs with a blue light behind them could potentially be at the lighthouse in Limsa's harbour.
It would also fit with his "this town has changed" remark, because it's actually where he lived prior to being recruited by Louisoix.
One of my all-time favourite NPCs happens to be a light-aspected damsel in distress!
Specifically the PS2 game ICO, which is effectively one big escort mission with a mysterious 'child of light' and a whole lot of shadow-demons out to get her... it's short (5-10 hours) but excellent, and it made me care about her so much by the end.
Between the Amano artwork and the 'Thancred and Minfilia' section of the trailer, it's definitely reminding me of that game and Shadow of the Colossus, which was by the same creators.
I swear.. if i have to bounce between the waking sands every other quest, i'll help the other side just to finish whatever is going on. >.> But i know.. we'll do all the hard work, and then she'll waltz onto the scene and act like she helped when she did nothing.
Seriously though.. if they avoid doing those two things, there's hope for this character; and i do want whoever they (re)introduce to be a good character rather than an annoyance.
Well, you answered your own question actually: she is (was) poorly written.
The issue is that the work she did was barely implied and never actually shown, giving us the impression that all she did was just sitting behind her desk all day while calling us back to the Waking Sands every 5 minutes out of boredom to ask us to save the day yet again. Or even to save her ala Mario & Peach. That's why when Alphinaud took over her responsabilities, even if he did pretty huge mistakes, people were more supportive for him as he was actually doing stuff.
Had she came with us in a few of our adventures, and simply used her Echo to do stuff other than the exact same stuff we were doing ("Did you see it too?" Yes, Minfillia, I did, I have the echo, just like you...), she would've felt closer to us. Heck, they could've use her the power to speak every languages, and it would've make a lot of sense for her to come with us and try to use diplomacy with the beast tribes.
So yeah... It did feel like she basically had no other purpose than to annoy us with her requests and get kidnapped. In short, she appeared to us as useless and helpless. When she was called by Hydaelyn, I think people were more than happy to see her go, simply because she was given an actual useful purpose.
I hope that her return means that she'll get an important role and focus point, and something more that "oh, she lost her memories and is now a child needed to be defended", because that'd basically make her more or less what people hated about her previously: helpless and useless.
I have no problem with weaker characters as long as they don't pretend to be leaders of people. Hopefully she will be given a different role this time.
Not a huge fan of Minfilia but not hating her either. I'm okay that she is coming back, it was hinted so before anyway.
But by the Twelve don't make her defenseless child who will need protection all the time, or get kidnapped again...
And please no Duty missions where she is NPC I have to keep alive or something.
The only thing Manfilla did well was get herself kidnapped. Alisaie Leveilleur was a 1000 times more capable then this woman.

Minfilia was the token "pure princess" that everyone worshipped for no apparent reason. She was nice enough, to be sure, but she wasn't a diplomat, she wasn't a fighter, and at no time did she show herself adept at anything other than ordering people around - often after getting lost in decision paralysis until someone more competent spoke up to decide what needed to be done. What traits, skills, abilities did she have to warrant her leading the Scions? A pure heart, burning to do good? "Means well" isn't a job qualification. She was dead weight, there simply because some people thought she was cute, and some people thought she was sweet, and doesn't every story need a princess to rescue?
Except that they don't. And I'm tired of the storyline continually going back to her as if we owed her something. She's a deus ex machina, and I'm frustrated by all of the good characters we've lost, who have been deprived of screentime, or who we didn't get to learn about because we were too busy tending to Minfilia having vapours or being indecisive or getting kidnapped, again. Alphie annoyed me through most of 2.0, but he was at least active, and he had a really good coming-of-age/growing-up arc. Minfilia has never had one, because the game treats her as if she's already perfect when she's simply a tepid, 2D sprite.
"Maybe she'll be better written this time!" Sorry, I'd still rather they give the screen to someone new and interesting that doesn't give me flashbacks of "WoL, dear, please carry this piece of paper across the room, I called you all the way across three zones for this."
Minifilia "the useless fetch quest giver" coming back yeeeey...
Not fan of her or Alphi. But if i would have to choose choice would be clear. Pretty boy has been carried for too long
Why we need Minfilia 9ne more time? She was dead and in a good way. Things like this is what make a good story in to shit.
What is this fairy tail here? She is not dead she in a different world?
It could be due to her weakening and the only form she could take on
She's the avatar of Hydaelyn. That makes her fairly important when the Source is coming apart at the seams.
Also, when she left for the First, she said that she'd find a way to do the impossible and find a way back to us, as we always did for her. This is her fulfilling that promise.
They should have kept Minfillia on that bus that drives people away from the plot.
