Restricting Egi Glamour to allow more glamour option

First of all, I don't know if DPS Roles is the right place for this (since SMN is a dps but the glamour itself has nothing to do with the role) so if it's supposed to be in another place, please tell me.

I believe that if SE restrict egi glamour, it will actually allows them to create more glamour. It may sound counter-intuitive but trust me on this. Currently, SMN can glamour their egi to any carbuncle (Garuda to Topaz for example) but this actually limits the option for their glamour because now SE MUST make a glamour that can fit all 3 roles for the egis (and at this point, only carbuncle fits the bill).

If they restrict the glamour so they can only glamour by role however, I believe that this actually allows SE to make more glamour. For example: Garuda can only glam'd as Emerald Carbuncle, currently this will be a restriction, but this allow them to create another egi to be a glamour, for example: Ramuh-egi. Ramuh is an obvious spellcaster type, so his egi will be a caster type as well and can't fit all 3 roles. Limiting what glamour Garuda-egi can use will allow SE to create Ramuh-egi for Garuda.

This of course, extends to the other 2 egis. Example: Ravana-egi for Ifrit or Bismark-egi for Titan and so on.

Of course, this is just my opinion, I want to hear what you guys think about this.

To be honest, there's no reason why both options couldn't be available.

Like, having unrestricted glamours such as Carbuncles, which are a safe neutral glamour that merely have different colours (Where's OUR Onyx Carbuncle SE? Why Alpinaud gotta taunt us with his shiny silver Carbuncle ;_; )

While also having restricted glamours such as other primals who would be more suited to certain roles.

But I guess part of this comes back to if SE have any plans on actually giving players other primals to summon (As either permanent pets akin to Ifrit-Egi/Titan-Egi/Garuda-Egi or as temporary pets akin to Demi-Bahamut) which would limit the possibilities for glamour.

But yeah, I also not sure if SE themselves have any plans to create more egi glams.

True, but I can't see a reason why they wouldn't be able to do it.

If they're able to restrict glamours to prevent you from having, say, Ramuh-Egi instead of Ifrit-Egi. Meaning that you could only glamour Ifrit-Egi into Ruby Carbuncle and Ravana-Egi.

Then there shouldn't be any reason why they couldn't just open the pool of possibilities up to include multiple other options, I.e. Ifrit-Egi being able to be glamoured into Ruby Carbuncle, Topaz Carbuncle, Emerald Carbuncle and Ravana-Egi but being unable to be glamoured into Ramuh-Egi.

Since, it's not like these are specific classes like with our equipment glamours with the Carbuncles being like "Jobs" for the Egi's that would normally prohibit their use with other "Classes" but SE allowed to be used unrestricted. But rather just a limited pool of glamours available (Likely because of having to create new spell animations since it wouldn't make sense for a Bismarck-Egi to be slamming down Earth skills when used in lieu of Titan-Egi)

In all honesty, it might be that the restrictions themselves are what's causing the issue of the lack of glamours. How would they go about indicating what glamour restrictions each Egi had as well as what options are available (Since, currently, the quest just tells you about the 3 Carbuncles)

Now that I think about it, yeah, you're right.

They can do that (un-restricting carbs but restricting other egis) to allow even more options. About animations, they do need to make a different skills for each egis (kinda funny seeing Ramuh-egi doing Aerial Blast or Bismark-egi using Earthen Fury), so I guess it depends on how much development time they willing to spend for this.

About glamour indication, they can have an NPC that tells you which egi can glamour which (maybe in Limsa Arcanist Guild or Y'mhithra can do that for you).

When they initially announced egi glamours I assumed it would work like this. I’d gladly take the restrictions if it meant more egi options.

Unfortunately though, I’m convinced that the devs have forgotten the system exists entirely lol

They've already answer'd that.
We'll never learn Onyx and Silver Carbuncle, they are what defines Alphinaud's spell. Unless Y.P comes back on his word, we will never have them.

I also agree regarding the restriction, but on the other hand I don't think this is the reason why we don't get any Egi glamour, it's just that they don't invest ressource into modeling and animating new Egi. That's it. It's simply not a priority.

If it were, we would have had those for a long time, the glamour system has been put in place, now all they have to do is create the art / animation for new egi, and this might take a lot of time because this is definitely not something of high priority.

I'd rather they just add new Egi's.

I agree with the OP and have suggested as much. They should just divide the glamour into two catergories; Melee and Ranged, then design the Egi's based on that. Personally I hate Unrestricted Carby because it's difficult to tell what the other summoner in the group is using. If I see blue I assume it's Summon I or red for Summon III. I remember when it first came out we had people troll groups with Summon II made to look like something else.

That still happens to this day, but it's more down to confusion rather than trolling. Rarely ever use Topaz Carby so I thought you know what I'll use it to glam Garuda or Ifrit, only to get some players shouting for attacker pet and I'm like it is, the Firey Cyclone or Radiant Shield kinda give it away....
Definitely it could do with something to make it stand out as to what the type of pet it actually is, like an icon such as a shield, staff or sword perhaps for each one so players don't get confused and will know what it is.

Would it be possible to just let the Egi keep its name when glamoured?

Like, as far as I can tell, there's no actual reason that your Egi's name needs to be glamoured too. Just have Carbuncles running around called Ifrit-Egi, Titan-Egi and Garuda-Egi.

Leave the actual Emerald Carbuncle and Topaz Carbuncle names for the Arcanists who are summoning actual Carbuncles.

Well, having the pet name tied to what is actually summoned, rather than the glamour would mean that if someone wasn't sure on what summon the SMN was using, they could just target it and see the name. Irregardless of if say, Ifrit-Egi was glamoured into Ruby Carbuncle, Topaz Carbuncle or any other potential glamour that they introduce.

As for the second part, of course that was implied. Leave the Carbuncle names for the ACTUAL Carbuncles rather than also use them for glamoured Carbuncles.

I don't see the problem with restricting egi glamours at all really.

Its not like you can glamour Fire IV into Megaflare or Rage of Halone into Bloodspiller. Skills are what they are.

Ifrit > Ruby > Ravanna
Garuda > Emerald > Ramuh
Titan > Topaz > Bismarck

No problems telling what's what, no need to keep the correct names, and you summon what you need based on it's function, not just on it's aesthetics.

While we're at it:
Eos > Moonstone > Moogle (green/yellow pom)
Selene > Obsidian > Moogle (purple/red pom)

I wish we could address the problems with the pet's gameplay before we push for glamour options.

I don't care if it looks like a Carbuncle, a chicken or a moogle, I want it to cast Aetherpact when I press the button once. :(
