Limited Job: Chemist/Salve-maker/Apothecary?

Seeing as Blue Mage has a spellbook, it could be neat to have a Mix-based job with some kind of recipe book for different effects.

I figure instead of using potions from your inventory, though, enabling people to just immediately mix items together and make everything on launch, maybe it could involve manipulating some kind of new item drops from mobs. Perhaps something like the seed/dust materials in Octopath, or the items like Beast Liver from Bravely Default.

Given the versatility of Mix, you could have attack themed recipes, ones based around healing and longevity, or ones based around buffing your defenses or stats.

THAT'S IT! I'VE COME UP WITH A NEW RECIPE! (sorry I had to say it)

Please no, CHemist is my second favorite job. If 2/3 of my top FF classes are limited jobs I'll be extremely sad that the only one I get to enjoy is BLM while CHemist and Blue Mage both get stuck as minigames.

Considering things pointing towards the next expansion to take place in Garlemald... Chemist would thematically work as a regular healer class as they've established that Garleans can't use magic

Chemist as an Hybrid DPS/Healing class.

Similar to what Alchemist/Biochemist was in Ragnarok Online, just Final Fantasy themed. Throwing both potions for single or aoe healing/buffing and other salvo as DPS solutions. Maybe very AoE oriented. Like AoE ranged combos. Throwing water bomb, then fire bomb, then electric bomb to create a thunderstorm area, or oil and then fire for a fire damage area, or stuff like that.

One class i would love to see is Risk Breakers. I kinda wish Gunblade class is called that, a very high risk, high reward DPS class, kinda like RDM but instead of magic, physical damage. Calling it just "Gunblade" doesn't cut it. Soldier could be...?

Thing is, most original FF jobs don't really work well in their concepts with our very limiting trinity. BLU mage doesn't fit in a world of DPS-TANK-Healers. Nor does Chemist actually. These limited jobs are probably a way to implement, eventually, highly demanded jobs, while leaving main classes additions exclusively to XIV originals or new re-interpretations of existing jobs.

I think this limited job thing, is exactly for that, implement "weirder" classes in a more "classic" way. Like, for people that wants a more legit Blue Mage that actually progresses differently and has skills that cover all three roles instead of just one. Or future... IDK. How would you implement a Mathematician, Oracle, Mime... Has "very exclusive jobs" most of our jobs could be literal prestigie classes/hybrid classes on other MMORPGs, i know for sure from homebrewing D&D that FF classes make for amazing advanced classes, yet they do not fit with extremely tight concepts of pure performance and perfect balance... You gotta give them, proper scenarios.

FFXIV can: Add new classes never seen before. Re-interpretate old classes, many of which are diferent for every fan based on their experience with them (For me Samurais are either Spellcaster tanks or CounterAttack glass cannons, not these... Sustained DPS with bursts...?) Or finally, try to implement their unique features as classes and create some scenarios/conditions so they don't bother the main classes rigid balance and can be implemented for fans.

Either shot they call, someone will be very vocal. I think this action is good for more "advanced" classes. The other thing, would be to revamp the whole combat system and allow a 4th role which can be fulfilled by many "advanced classes" like "Support".
I mean you can also just slap the name blue mage, give it generic skill names randomly, remove all this progression system, make it a caster and call it a day. But then again, would that be a Blue Mage?

In my book, DRGs don't jump enough, Samurai should be tanks that do counter damage and block/counter based on stance dancing, and lalafells shouldn't exists.

In more seriousness, no. BLU is horribly designed and implemented in its current state. I think they made the "Limited Job" idea just to give themselves an excuse to be lazy. I would not encourage them to make more such jobs until they get thier act together and figure out what they want to do with them. Personally, I'd rather them just ditch the idea all together and actually implement real jobs. Have some creativity. Why couldn't BLU have been a limited job in the sense that equipping spells gave you points and stats toward one of the three main roles and you could freely flow between them outside of a duty? I'll admit that I was never optimistic about the idea of limited jobs, but with BLU in particular they had so much potential to make the limited job idea shine and... it fell so flat. Everything about the job right down to the quests seems so lazy.

Chemist and alchemist are two different things. You absolutely should not mix them up with each other.

As for the thread, that would be rather...weird. No, Chemist should not be a limited job simply for the fact that it screams "healer". And a healer/tank being a limited job is pointless, seeing as these are very much party-oriented roles.

Pretty much, before the idea of limited jobs, BLU, BeastTamer and other such jobs were pretty much "No, they won't work." Then someone at SE likely said "OK, so what if we just make them even if they don't work and limit them?" It's likely this is the only way they'd even consider some of these jobs for inclusion.
I also don't really see BLU as lazy, it's simply different. I mean we're still getting at least two full jobs this expansion, just like we did last one, BLU is simply something extra and it's different.
It also likely took as much work as a full job given the amount of spells and the Carnival, it's just designed differently.

I'm not sure how they could make chemist a limited job, since unlike BLU it never had any true tanking capabilities, though I'd be down to try it if they did. Just having the "Mix" ability really doesn't help justify it either as simply relegating it to combos would provide the same affect. I would much prefer it be added to the game as a healer however. We have a few too many aetherically inclined healers. Something down to earth with flasks and grenades would be a fun change.

Here's a list of all the 'Mix' variations across the series.
FFV: Mostly self buffs and recovery
FFX-2: It's one of the most broken jobs in the game, but it's Mix ability mostly produces healing/status effects and buffs. (Rikku has this ability in FFX but it's not as expansive.).
FF Tactics: Support, movement, and recovery.
Bravely Default: Again mostly heals and support.

And so on and so forth. While it can be fundamentally broken like in FFX-2, where the best strat to beating the secret boss in the dessert is to use three chemists, it's nowhere near as broken as BLU. BLU has always been built from the ground up to reward player persistence with high level spells and abilities that take time to earn, but are worth the hassle in the long run. It's a good trade in a single player game and a nightmare in an MMO. Chemist doesn't really have the same amount of hitches.

Even if blue mage is fun i'm still sad i cannot use it in "normal" content

But where would the fun in them being limited be? I mean yes you can mix stuff after grinding for it but then what? I just cant see any long term fun in that. The same with jobs like beastmaster. So you can collect monsters to use them for what? Maybe the beast master version of the carnival but that would be it. (I doubt they would make a pokemon like game for that job where you can fight against other beast master all over the world)

Not only do I find the long term fun in that missing (and how many times will each limited job be updated if we have a couple of them in the future?) but we will probably not get much glamour or weapons either so no fun there either.

Being serious or not have nothing to do with what I wrote to you. I wrote to you that chemist is a different thing than an alchemist, nothing more. The fact that the whole bit was a joke is not relevant here. It's purely semantics. If you want to claim that the "semantics" of chemist and alchemist are the point of your "joke" on the other hand...then it's completely illogical. It wouldn't have anything to do with the thread, as far as I can see.

An alchemist is a protoplast of chemist, biologist, astrologist, physicist and few other science groups. It was divided into several separate categories. An alchemist is a protoplast of chemist, biologist, astrologist, physicist and few other science groups. It was divided into several separate categories. That's part of the reason why Alchemist crafting canes, books and rapiers is reasonable, even though these things have zero to do with chemistry.
