MATERIA changes to save inv space

What would you think of resist materia just being combined with the other more popular materias instead of having 2 pieces. I don't think resist materia would make people to OP so i don't think it would be an issue.

Combine sleep resist with hp
petrifaction resist with mp and so on.

The materia system is still new and needs adjustments, i think this would be a good one.

EDIT:just wanted to point out the second agenda of this topic is to make use of less desirable materia by combining them with more desirable materia. quality over quantity.

I'd be happier if materia didn't take up space in my inventory at all, it never made sense to me that it does, my character is carrying around several thousand fire/ice/lighting/whatever crystals but because materia is a different 'type' of crystal it takes up a precious inventory slot.

this idea is also to gain the effects of less desired materia without having to sacrifice stats for it.

for standard materia i think they are doing away with all the different potency's and just making them NQ HQ so they can stack

I think materia should be done like crystals in the inventory and made stackable have ...so if you have say 4 +12 str they shoudl all be one stack and the +1 strs should be in another stack.

that's a really good idea actually.

they put off the +2, +3 materials to get more space in our inventory and they add grade I,...,V materia, dark matters and stuff for craft and materia attachment, so it doesn't change anything at all to our inventory space...

yea, i have a retainer maxed with materia. when i have time i blow it up on multi melds.

That's why they should give us a unique tab for materia, make an universal and only one grad of dark matter and the attachment for materia, also, only one type of them, not 3 different despit your a miner or a botanist.
Beastmen currencies also deserve their own tab (if there will be someday a use for it).

Seriously, why add so much things where one would make no difference.

all good ideas as well. Esp since they intend to limit our inv to 100 again(although the screenshot with items bags would suggest 125)

But even after all that would would use a resist materia instead of a stat or crit materia or something. i say combine them onto more important materias as a bonus effect.

the effects of materia are pretty low as is

Woah Woah woah, what?

I missed that news and it makes me VERY SAD. I'm pretty sure just my gear and crafting materials take up that much space, by the time you have a primary and secondary tool for each crafting class, a handful of craft materials, +1 variations of things and items you haven't unloaded onto a retainer yet - I can't go back! I don't know how I coped with 100 and I don't want to find out.

yep the 200 inv is a temporary solution they said. when we get private housing it will go back down. they said 100 before but the screen shot shows 5 bags each holding 25 items.

also they plan on giving us gear mannequins to take gear outta inv, i don't know if they'll be kept at housing though.

Well that's better than nothing I guess, I have a habit of carrying around premade metal plates etc. that it would be irritating to have to make fresh each time I crafted but I guess that's going to have to happen. *sigh*

would be nice if you could summon your retainer anywhere

Materia should be HQ and NQ for each tier its stupid having so many different versions per tier.

This would allow them to stack, agree that having something like resist silence on MP materia would make sense.

And yes put them in the same tab as crystals.

Someone mentioned that in the JP translation thread but im not 100% sure it was an accurate translation as google translate suggested something to do with crafting materials not materia.

they said that but they finally go into the N.Q and +1 (as it is for now).

This is what I have been saying for some time. If it must take inventory space, then let it do so in this fashion. Besides, more and less desired materia is a subjective way to look at it, so this is the much better solution.

(Example: If you have a Mind materia +16, Mind materia +18, Mind materia +18, Mind materia +20, and Mind materia +16 again, it will only take up 3 inventory spaces instead of 5 spaces. The two +18s will stack together, and the two +16s will stack together.)

Edit: uh... I guess this goes the same for NQ and HQ materia if that happens. It should stack to 99 NQ or 99 HQ, etc, in my opinion.

it may be subject to say more or less desired but i don't think it is subject to say that combining them into one would make them better without being OP.

Regarding the main point of the thread, I think it goes against the idea behind multi-melding. I mean, combining materia or providing more slots for melding is exactly the same thing in the end.

That being said, I could see that the rates of success for adding an additional materia could be considerably higher if added materia is from a completely different category, like you mention.

Instead of dropping to 25% success on 2nd damage-related materia (say 1 +str materia and 1 +attack materia), you could drop to 75% success if 1st materia is damage related and 2nd is resistance related.

This would promote balance in the melded-gear rather than stacking up only the most obvious materia at a high risk rate.

Oh, well I thought we all wanted more room, that's why I said it that way. If we all didn't want to save room in our inventories then why was this thread made with that as one of the main points? lol My point was, that it's more efficient overall to just be able to stack them in the inventory.

The materia overall would be too powerful combined together the way that you described anyway. =p

you could make even more room by doing it both ways. removing some materia and just making them bonus effects on other materia, making the HQ and NQ to stack. I like all these ideas. I like the idea of some materia being a bonus stat so that example: on mrd i add 70 hp to belt bonus stat +10 pet resist. its nice to get the bonus, but i woulda picked the HP had i needed to choose one.

I see that the new goldsmith recipes are taking this approach as well, quality over quantity.

It's just too powerful, is all. That's what I mean. People are supposed to make great gear by melding those materia together on gear now, if you pull it outside of that, they will say it's unbalanced and too easy in that regard.

Edit: Also, as far as we are aware, we cannot and will not be able to meld materia on to accessories, so they need to be of good quality to begin with in that regard.

that's were opinion comes into play. i don't believe having resist attached as bonus would make things op(as long as its balanced which im sure they would. i don't know anyone personally that would take a double melded resist gear over something that would actually benefit damage def hp mp or magic pot.

That will change once people understand what resistance does and when it actually effects the fights.
I have never read some one so one sided as you about combining them. Just triple meld and be done with it, I'm sure there will come a time when we will be about to meld materia to materia at a 25-50% success or something.

Well, it depends. What if in one of the new dungeons you get stunned.... a lot! Double melded stun resist gear might be something I think most people would choose over hp and mp for sure, but it depends on other parts of the dungeon too. Not to mention people can change their gear in combat, did you know? People could macro different gear sets in different situations. No, you can't change your class and you need to be in passive mode to do so, but we don't know what future content is going to be like is my point.

It is opinion to say if something is too easy, but it is the opinion of the developers that also shapes this game. =p I'm not saying your idea is bad, I'm just saying it seems like it would be too powerful and would lead to us having more materia overall, because they can't get rid of the materia people already have or remove it from gear people already melded.

Yes, but I'm trying to tell you that is counter-productive. Being able to combine the materia will just end up with more kinds of materia being in existence, because they cannot get rid of the materia they have already implemented in the game.

they woul jsut phase out like they did with crafting. and it sounds like you think i mean the player cobines the materia. thats not what i mean.

I mean, change the stats to the existing materia so they have the bonus effects while removing the materia that are those effect from game.

so add pet resist to str, and remove pet resist from game as a drop.

do you ever convert gear to materia and get a resist, yea, it sucks. if they removed resist from game and added them onto materia as bonus effects then that wouldn't happen anymore.

It's an interesting idea, but they would have to go through another round of dated gear then, because people have already used the current materia we have on gear. Melded, double melded, etc. It wouldn't be equivalent anymore if they just dated that materia, and allowed gear with dated materia on it to remain existing.

only time will tell. there has been alot of complaints about the system and being they plan to limit our inv in 2.0 i think they should change it before then.

i cant sell the resist materia, and im not gona save them all, and i dont use them. its a shame i have to npc them.
