I'm surprised how many people even bother to make cross-server friends. I basically don't talk to anyone unless they're on my specific server. Anyone else might as well be a non-person.
People crying about losing friends and families from other servers. What the heck is wrong with the statics on YOUR server, or the people in your FC? It feels like folks are making this into a way bigger deal than it aught to be.

Woah, woah. I can't say that I have had many friends made across server lines either, but that's not to say that those that have friends between servers have issues making statics on their own servers. There are a lot of things that can go into that, like time zone differences and availability. For instance, on Excalibur, despite we're an NA data center, we have several people who play from Europe. I imagine other servers are similar.
I may not have made a ton of friends between servers since the implementation of the cross-server friends list, but it looks like a lot of people have. I think that's pretty cool. I am thankful that, at the very least, we'll have free server transfers for a bit- but people are still gonna have to do a bit of finangling to get these puzzle pieces to fit. -

People are making a big deal out of this because people they've played with for months to potentially years are going to be cut off from them.
And no, transferring isn't the solution, because they might have equally strong ties to their own server. Making an alt isn't a very good fix, because it takes a large investment of time to maintain more than one character, for the interests of raiding at least.
There's people still progressing AlphaScape; say they don't kill the tier before the change, they'd have to choose between leaving friends/FCs behind or leaving the static and thus losing weeks of prog.
It also doesn't personally affect me, but I can see how its terrible for the people it does effect; essentially making them choose between groups of friends.
Posts like these don't help; some opinions do NOT need to be shared with the world. Crazy concept, I know. -

I'm serious though. If I want to raid. I join a raiding FC. Even if I have to transfer servers to be there. So I have a hard time comprehending this 'split community' thing. Why would someone stay in one FC and yet raid with an entirely different group of people? Why not just raid with your FC, or become good friends with your static and transfer to their server?
I've never seen an MMO where people stayed in one FC/guild while actively trying to raid with another group. It just seems so foreign. -

That’s not an easy decision for some people—not everyone wants to leave behind their friends on their home server for that, and not every server had a large raiding scene (Cactuar didn’t have a large raid scene until Creator when cross-world became a thing; it’s since grown and does quite well, but it’s still no Gilgamesh or Sarg). People are moving from Crystal to Aether because the raid scene will be larger here, what with Gilgamesh and Sargatanas both on here (both of which have the highest rate of clears). I just hope when most of the raiders move away from Crystal they won't take all the regular competent people that do normal content with them is all. But I do empathize with SE too, it's something that needs to be done, and there's little ways to make it happen without hurting someone. Someone that makes a friend from other server should be mature enough to know that THAT could happen someday. And now that it's happening, what else SE should be offering to help? Talk with your friends, make the decision, you have the time, you have the free transfers, you can hire additional retainers to store housing items untill you have your house again (Let's be realistic and assume that SE will not provide any retainer for free, and if you REALLY will lose items for housing you should be responsible for that decision, is it worth losing these items for a mere additional fee?)
I assume for SE: Not making it or changing servers from side to the other sides are not options.
