5.0 and the Marketboard sales

I watched the Fanfest video where it shows you can finally select which world you want to go to on the fly and change it back and forth in minutes as long as it's within your Datacenter.

Does that mean every marketboard will be linked together in 5.0? Datacenter shared Economy? o.o

This is a really cool question I hope they'll answer it for you today at the PLL.

I get the feeling we'll know more about this stuff maybe at EU, more likely at JP. They don't really go into a lot of details until much closer to expac day - but this is something that I know is worrying a lot of people so it would be nice to get a yes/no answer. They don't have to explain the whole thing, just reassure us that they've actually given thought to all the ways this could be terrible for a server.

That would destroy so much. Visors should be heavily restricted from MB and housing. The hunt thing is already a major issue, since hunt trains cause enough problems as it is.

Knowing SE, they will not allow trading on other worlds, including MB purchases or sales, for example you cannot send items or Gil to anyone on your Friend List that is on another world.


Of course, they could link all the worlds on the DC to one universal Market Board, but i doubt that will happen. Imagine if you could purchase Land on another World.


I would expect the minimum interactions mentioned in the stream, which are good enough, but they could always surprise, but this is SE, who will not even allow you to Friend your alt characters, share your house with alts etc

They should prohibit mb access when visiting another world. I'm on a med sized world and it would break the economy if ppl could just go to balmung and buy things like shinryu scales and other high priced items for "pennies" and bring them back to sell or craft with.

They clarified today. All MB's are still world specific, but you can visit a world and buy from their MB while there. You cannot however put anything up for sale while visiting and you access to retainers is restricted.

They said in the live letter you cannot SELL on another world, but you CAN BUY items and resell them on your home world. They seem to be OK with prices eventually becoming regulated on the entire data center, so if you don't like that idea... you should probably start making some noise.

I'm hope such things would be locked out for visiting players.

Well that doesn't make sense xD. Wish they would make the Marketboard sales Datacenter wide if they're going to do that. It will suck for players currently on servers where everything is cheap like Balmung, but it will even out in a few months lol xD.

Plus it will save us the time relogging to multiple worlds checking the MB for rare things at the cheapest prices.

I was really hoping they'd just block other players from interacting with another server's economy entirely.

This is what I expected, but I guess if they wanted (and it seems they DO want I suppose) the economies to have parity (at least within the data center), then this works.

They making a big deal but it's nothing really. Will be crazy at the start but will stabilize later. As a consumer it's good news for us as more competition among sellers mean they have less chances to rip us off.

I'm all for lower prices if we get them but think one of the worst things to deal with is the constant undercutting, it'll only get more prevalent on a centre-wide economy.

This is good for High Pop servers - Some with overinflated prices.

For example, my friend was telling me on his server VI materia is like 200k each. On Leviathan, our VI materia is like dust in the wind. 25k~or less prices.
Same with some Glamour choices.

On Hyperion glamour is dirt cheap , our server is like 6 mil for things that shouldn't be LOL
even furniture ~.~

I think that's mostly due to bots/rmt though and SE is horrible when comes to dealing with them.

One of the worst things to come out of this is that now bot farmers will be able exert an influence on the economies of servers that didn't have a problem with them initially.

Infusion prices have already been tanked to the point where it's scarcely worth the time investment to craft them for profit on a lot of servers, but now that's going to be the case regardless of whether your server has a bot problem or not because everyone will just flock to other servers to buy if they know someone is regularly selling cheaper, be they legitimate or otherwise.

I wouldn't be against the change if SE actually did something about the gathering/crafting bots, but they don't, so...

They want to break market disparity between servers among the same data center.
That was their idea and they said it.

Rip you off? I already don't make much off sales for end game gear, considering time invested. It's not easy competing with bots. So maybe don't judge someone, before knowing the situation.

I love how people don't even understand the correlation between inflation/deflation and a server's population.

How do we rip you off? We put in time, effort, months of leveling our crafters to 70, gathering materials, gearing up, melding millions worth of materia, making craft food, tea, searching for rotations and so on, and give the casual player a chance to obtain a massive range of items and it's a rip off because we expect a small profit per item?

If you're talking low demand items being sold for far more than material cost, that's because these items can take weeks to sell and take up retainer space. Often you can buy the materials and request a crafter to help too, I do that all the time for free.

But if you feel profit for items is a rip off, by all means level your crafters, gatherers, get into treasure maps and get them yourself for "free". No one's stopping you.

I'm no crafter/gatherer and probably never will be. Maybe someday I might level one crafter/gatherer out of boredom who knows. Doubt most people level those do it legit to begin with. I came from FF11 where most people used 3rd party programs.

More competition is healthy for the MB sorry if that pisses you off and better for consumers such as myself. As for the issue of bots that is on SE and not me.

You said I ripped people off. I told you that wasn't the case. We don't make much on Coeurl.

It's actually possible we end up making more, since we are a crafting server and buyers from multiple servers may benefit us in crafter to customer ratio. However, we don't know for sure. Once you start to merge economies, you can cause a lot of unintended changes. This includes potentially giving bots more power over real crafters/ gatherers, potentially destroying that aspect of the game and encouraging RMT. The weaker real tradecraft people are, the stronger RMT will get.

Edit: I've also crafted a lot of things for free.

Bots really do dominate the economy on most servers, whether they're doing it for RMT purposes or simply for personal gain.

This change is likely going to force everyone to adopt their unreasonably low prices that are only profitable if they're spending little to no money on mats (Which is generally facilitated by them having gathering bots fueling their crafts). A single aethersand presently costs more then a craft's worth of infusions on my server as a good example of how badly they've screwed things up.

At least this will help alleviate the problem. I have alts on multiple servers so seen stuff either not in stock or priced 2-4 times other servers. Thus my view on being ripped off.

The obvious solution to this whole issue would be for SE to just stop being absolutely terrible at controlling bots, but that's probably never going to change, lamentably.

A lot of people on my server simply gave up on trying to craft for profit entirely because of how oppressive the bots were getting, while others actually changed servers to escape them, but now there won't be any escape.

Honestly, I think they should restrict access to marketboards while you're visiting other worlds. No buying, no selling.
It would prevent world markets from spilling into each other, as well as deny bots the opportunity to capitalize on it.

But you put that on a specific individual. Reputation is important.

So I'm trying to understand how is this is a bad thing in the long-run? Especially if the aim is to move towards a unified MB across the DC.

I'm currently leveling my crafters and on Balmung, I think what's going to happen is that initially our prices will go up as visitors buy stuff. We might end up becoming the de facto shopping server of Crystal.

Then if our prices keep going up, the prices on other servers will go down and then people will flock to whichever server is the cheapest. This cycle will keep repeating until the disparity between the MBs on the DC are reduced.

As a crafter and gatherer, it means the days of DOH/DOLs selling stuff for high prices on smaller servers might be coming to end.

However, judging by my experiences of selling stuff in a saturated buyers' market, DOH/DOLs will be able to sell stuff faster albeit for lower profits.

What does concern me is gil-laundering and RMT activities. How does SE plan to tackle that when people can buy stuff on visited worlds?

So now every person on every server of Crystal who wants to sell anything first has to go to balmung, check the price of every single item, write it down and transfer back, all to match Balmungs price, repeat this every single time you want to update prices. Really not seeing anything wrong with that?

All this is gonna do is encourage the use of illegal 3rd party programs to keep track of the marketboard because that's gonna be the only way to compete.

If they wanted to unify the economies they should have started with unifying the marketboards. But of course nothing is ever simple in this game, every new feature has to be added in the most convoluted way.

So if Balmung becomes expensive, due to visitors inflating the price, some other server will take its place as Crystal's de facto shopping server, until price disparity is reduced to the point, where it doesn't make sense to travel to another server for cheap items.

Not sure about 3rd party illegal programs but experienced DOH/DOLs already use sites like ffxivmb to keep track of MB prices. On reddit, I've already seen someone set up a website to keep track of prices across servers.

Don't see how they could have done it overnight without wrecking the value of personal mats and gil wealth of players. By working towards reducing price disparity they are gradually paving the way for a unified MB across the DC.

But how do you reduce prices to match Balmung? You have to enter and exit Balmung every time you want to adjust prices, hence my post.

Yes and when another server becomes cheaper,sellers on Balmung have to do the same. This cycle will keep happening until price disparity insignificant across the DC.

That's not going to be as prevalent as you think. It requires too much effort. Will some players travel for market reasons? Sure. But it's not going to be that widespread and all most people will need to do is be concerned about current prices on their home market. These are the same markets that pay a premium for NPC sold items so that they don't have to travel within worth to acquire.

Some servers have gear that is way overpriced. That is going to change as people can now buy things on other servers at much lower prices. No more huge price disparities from one server to another.
