HoH feedback

Overall I like HoH. that said the failure to properly segment starting points is extremely frustrating. having to start at floor 21 every time you want to clear the content is a 4-5hr commitment, which is ridiculous.

Please consider segmenting the dungeon to 1-30, 31-60, 61-100. Fixed parties have an intrinsic issue regarding scheduling players' time to align which results in limiting access to the content.

Here's something annoying that happened to me today-- we were in the 60s, got a bad pull and I dropped (I was tank)... RDM raises me as the others die, I get up, prepare to pop a magicite-- and it says Duty Failed, despite the fact that I was up.

It should not fail you as long as someone is raising. That's just garbage.

you either make the time committment to run it all in one go or break it up over a period of time. it's called a challenge for a reason. even after all this time they still don't have a similar way of doing PotD challenge floors so why would this be made any different?

They would have either increase the floors from 61+ or severely reduce the number of pomenders you acquire otherwise the challenge becomes piss easy. The whole point is how risky the higher floors are due to time constricts. That becomes nil and void if a wipe on floor 84 sets you back an hour and a half. It just makes easier, which defeats the entire purpose. Likewise, if you allow a second tier, people are going to ignore whichever offers less EXP. That's how 51-60 became the go to spam for PotD.

Can you not commit to do things on more than one day? I've never had issues doing this with friends, we just go when we feel like it, do some floors, stop when we had enough, get back to it again later.

It's an mmo, time commitment is a thing.

The time factor and the idea of wiping = going back to Floor 21 and starting over is part of the challenge; it’s supposed to incentivize you to not screw things up, plan, and think about how to use the resources you have. If the challenge was changed and players were able to start on Floor 51 or Floor 61 instead of Floor 21, that part of the challenge is erased. It’s supposed to be very gauntlet-style.

4 to 5 hours for HoH is a Saturday afternoon. Or two evenings before or after dinner, before bed. That’s not a huge time commitment. PotD took longer because you had to go through a minimum of 150 floors first so you would have a semblance of an argument there (though it could still be done the same way as HoH, just you would dedicate more afternoons/evenings to it), but HoH is only 80 floors...

Adding more floors per tier would increase the time commitment, rendering this a moot argument; 61-70 becomes 61-80 and 81-90 becomes 91-100 and so on. The mobs cannot get much stronger or they'll one-shot tanks without CDs, which you simply won't have enough. The time commitment is part of the difficult. Can you not set aside two hours one day and agree to meet up another if spending four times all at once is too much?

Except you don't have to do all 70 floors in 1 sitting.

You are adding another difficulty to savage, which is already hard. If you change where the floor saves are in HoH/PotD, by adding more, you basically remove any difficulty.

They did this in A6S. You know, the tier practically every raider sings praise about. So...

Regardless, this comparison falls flat because you aren't required to do a full 100 run in a single setting. My static only two hours last week. Quite the dilemma! How could we possibly have managed. Oh. We rescheduled another day. Why is this such a herculean task if you aren't able to set aside 4-5 hours?

That’s basically what Ultimate is. We see how well-received it is by the raiders, so I don’t think they’ll complain much. :)

I guess dedicating a weekend, 2 hours a day for HoH Floor 100 clears is just too hard, then? You don’t have to do it all in one sitting, even with HoH taking significantly less time than PotD did. You are more than welcome to get a group of friends together and make a weekend of it: 2 or so hours on Saturday, another 2 or so on Sunday. Is that difficult?

Im game for this, but just so you know tier 1-4 takes maybe an 1.5 hours and thats for slow clears. I bet most farm groups get it done in less than an hour

Well no, my point is that instead of just doing one floor for the night and pugging your last member because one of your DPS got called into work tonight, you don't have that option. You're stuck with your fixed party, whether it was pugged or not, and have to restart from floor one if you disband it. That would generally add a lot of time for doing runs, and be a fairly big inconvenience at times because you don't want to have to do the first two floors again just to practice on the second phase of the 3rd. I'm trying to show how the time burden can not be fun for people, especially in pugs or for a party whose last member can't always show up when you want to do it.

Statics already have this issue. many choose to reschedule over losing loot for people.

and its still not a black and white comparison. You say its the time issue, but the time part of HoH is part of the difficulty. we can remove the time part if you want, but only if it becomes savage difficulty. You'd still have issues clearing it, but due to how hard it is now, not how long it takes.

That’s when the static chooses to reschedule on a day where they can set aside the time necessary for the content. Because they already do that as it is rather than sacrificing loot.

Again, as I said repeatedly to you, you can set aside a weekend and clear HoH in ~2 hour periods on both days, and it’s not that difficult to find 2, 3, or 4 people that can do it within the same time frame. HoH takes 5 hours at the most to clear.

If you want to do gauntlet-style content, find reliable people. Go with your FC mates you can rely on. Or your friends. Talk to them and formulate a schedule for a weekend of deep dungeon fun. That shouldn’t be that hard. :)

EDIT: I’ll give you an example where I literally just did this— I cleared Floor 100 again last night with two of my static mates from my UwU group that wanted to do a run of it. We did it in a little under 5 hours, and that was with taking breaks in-between, especially after Floors 81-90 since we had a rough series of floors in there and wanted to stretch a bit before tackling the last ten.

A couple of hours later, I had another friend ask if I wanted to do a Floor 100 run with them. I figured why not because I still need 2 more clears for the Juedi mount anyways, and I wasn’t doing much aside from idling. We gathered two other people we knew, and went in. We stopped at Floors 41-50, however, because our tank said that he suddenly felt sick and wanted to go lay down. What did we do? “That’s okay; are you free tomorrow evening so we can continue?” “Yeah, we’ll be free tomorrow evening to finish this off.” It wasn’t that big of an issue for us, and we all know that we’re free. That’s literally all you have to do, and it makes it even easier if you are doing it with FC mates and friends because you can stay in contact with them if there are any sudden changes/need to reschedule. If you have some flaky friends, then go with non-flaky ones.

and savage static planning is unfun and annoying, and one of the many reasons people choose just to pf single runs, since that was made available due to cross server party finder. Not everyone can plan their time around 3-8 other people in a game, especially if the work full time or they log on at odd hours, like eu time on a NA server. If you choose to, you add a large time burden to a single event that often ends in disbanding it anyways, if one person gets tired of it, gets sick and is offline for a weekend, has to go back to school, loses their internet, has connection trouble, etc.

There's a reason why NA tend to do it all in one sitting, and that's due to those factors. Not everyone likes them, which is why pf and df exist. HoH removes that more or less entirely for the challenge floors, and previously potd kind of suffered because of it

There have been instances of one sitting runs and divided runs that work out fine. That's what I've been trying to to tell you. But, again, you don't actually read what I write because it doesn't fit the way you want things to be. And are you sure this is an NA-exclusive thing? Any proof that this isn't also done on JP servers? Or EU servers?

Basically what you want is to be able to pug the higher floors at your leisure. Sorry, but that's not the way the content is designed. From the shenanigans I see happening on floors 21-30, I wouldn't want my floors 91-100 reliant on 3 other random people that use pomanders willy-nilly, or don't bother to use them when a situation is dire. Or get a party that's 4 DPS with no tank or healer. That's a recipe for disaster up on those floors.

To make them puggable, you would basically have to remove the challenge from them entirety: paper mobs that can be downed in 10 seconds with zero threatening mechanics to them, and each set of floors plus the boss takes 30 minutes or less. Which would defeat the entire purpose of those floors. They aren't made to be puggable in the sense of random matches parties. They're made for premades where communication is used and needed.

If you want to do them so badly, rise to the challenge. Plenty others have done it.


As for your IRL time constraints: I cleared PotD Floor 200 working a full-time job that never had the same schedule each week, and I very rarely had weekends off. I still made it work with friends a couple of hours each night for 3 to 4 nights until we cleared. It wasn't hard or stressful or annoying. Go with people you can trust and rely on, or start networking to find those types of people. You like to bring up FFXI, well networking and forming parties was core to that game. So do it in FFXIV as well. It's not difficult.

If you read her comment, she's already talking about the part of the community that does Savage content. Not everyone in there wants a static, but that also means that not everyone finds statics and their scheduling "unfun and annoying", since, naturally, the ones that have statics with schedules wouldn't be doing them if they found them "unfun and annoying".

My point still stands: this content is designed a certain way, and people either rise to its challenge and do it the way it was intended (i.e., premades for the challenge floors starting at either floor 1 or floor 21), be it in a single day or over multiple days, or don't do it at all. If you want to do the challenge floors, put forth the time and effort needed for them.

And I've been telling you HoH is 5 hours at the most for Floor 100 runs. That's a Saturday afternoon, or two evenings during the week, the weekend, whatever. It can be made to work out in multiple sittings, and no it isn't always something that leads to "a long time spent doing nothing" if you take the time to find reliable people for it; or just ask people you trust to not flake. I don't see why you can't understand that you're blowing the difficulty of finding a group way out of proportion. Heck, you can even do this solo. You have all the tools at your disposal to get your Floor 100 clear; use them.

The Dodo isn't even from the four runs, by the way. It drops from Platinum sacks on Floors 71+. You're thinking of the Juedi mount, which requires four runs to purchase each accessory to meet the requirements to receive it from the HoH NPC. If you have issues with content longevity, take that up with the developers. Not me.

I would argue that the content SE has been putting out is in fact underwhelming. What ever happened the "never seen before in an MMO" content

Real feedback, I enjoy HoH. I appreciate that they made it only 100 floors. It makes it easier to find people who you can count on to run it without worrying about time. Instead of the ultimate goal being one long ass run it's 4 shorter runs.

One day, you may have a kid, and the idea of "only" five hours is going to seem so ludicrous to you that you 'll marvel at the person you were then. There are a lot of people playing this game. The genre in general is increasingly skewing older, and that's why you spend all of fifteen minutes fighting in savage, and not spend four hours getting the pop item to trigger a sky boss. Just the OP has a reason for asking this, even though its futile. SE spoke in my opinion, if they don't fix something they like it.

God forbid we have differing opinions. You really cannot fathom people not adhering your bias rhetoric can you? Considering the vast majority of raiders join or search for statics, I suspect the raid community likes statics just fine. You know why? They offer stability and consistency. I prefer adapting to a group of players I play with on a frequent basis than dealing with randoms. The former allows us to develop strategies which work for us whereas a PuG can be entirely hit or miss. Statics also help alleviate the risk of bad or simply inexperienced players. While I have no problem helping someone, if I'm aiming to get weeklies done, I don't want someone who can't handle mechanics or does low DPS.

All in all statics offer thing sa pug never can. So I'll take my "tortured logic" over your bias perception.

The controversy stems from you demanding everything cater to your whims and preferences. You claim SE "knew how we felt" yet dismissed a direct quote from the Director/Producer who outright said players preferred floors 180-200. Even if we allow some embellishment leeway and chop that down to 150-200 or thereabouts, SE did listen. The community, according to their data, doesn't agree with you. I know this is difficult to process but you're not always right.

If you find savage fun, cool. But no raider I have ever known has liked raid planning. Keeping, scheduling, and retaining people is a huge chore, in any MMO. Trying to defend this as part of the challenge is dumb. The time burden aspect is not a good defense either, considering how much this game was designed to counter said aspect from FFXI. People took way more than five hours getting a single level sometimes in FFXI, that didn't make it more fun except in the stockhom syndrome way we had back then.

Then yoshi has no idea what we felt, which makes sense. Because I am simply not seeing the interest reflected in game. Maybe its a JP thing, but he can say what he likes, if people aren't shouting or forming groups in game for it, then what are we to make of it? I don't reflexively doubt him, but that particular statement is very counterintuitive, so it really needs some proof.

I don't have a kid, and I find five hours of anything other than sleep to be stupid. That being said, I also know how time management works, and have no problem being able to spread that five hours across a couple days thanks to the fact that your progress gets spared every ten levels. I'm sure there's some sort of parenting argument about how they won't let you, but I've also seen gamer parents do a pretty good job working around that.

Also, I love how there are all these complaints about how long HoH is when no one has brought up that it's only half as long as PotD and requires clearing just 80 floors rather than the 150-floor slog needed to clear PotD. In fact, HoH just seems like an improvement on PotD in every possible way, and my only complaint would be the similar lootbox issue that befouled the loot tables for the Eureka chests.

The funny thing is that HoH is actually easier than PotD, since you have far more ways to deal with bad RNG than before. Bad set of debuffs but want to save Serenities? Open the gate asap and conceal to the exit. Items and abilities disabled, with added gloom? Just magicite. The list goes on.

In palace you only had...witching and rage. The latter not even functioning if you had anti knockback on the floor.

As for the main topic of time investment, meh, it's like any other content that requires that sort of thing. My FC's XIV time on Sunday was converted to tabletop, and yeah, sometimes we postpone because people can't make it. But them's the breaks. Same with this. You know it's going to be Fixed-party exclusive, so you plan ahead. When we were running PotD, we'd do it one floor set at a time, maybe two, just because it wore us out that much, and we continued the next week. If anything, making the tiers longer will scare a lot more people away and will be all the more punishing. Now a death means you lost up to 29 floors of progress and Hoards instead of up to 9.

I've already decided to unsub after the next Eureka zone until pre- next xpac. I've come to realize the only thing I like in this MMO is the MSQ, and there is no need to be subbed for 2 years to experience that.

Hmm feedback? HoH in a nutshell: It's not amazing or outstanding I'd say serviceable or ok. It's a reskinned Palace of the Dead really which I guess is fine as long as them reusing content to death over and over again doesn't bother you. I give it a pass because it makes leveling my classes to 70 much easier. So thanks for that I guess. Rewards need to be readjusted I'd say. At least for the silver sacks. Mostly get worthless fireworks from those. I'd honestly rather get potions that heal you like the change made in Eureka. Something useful at the very least.

I just wish each set of floors would award at least 1 loot bag in addition to the potsherd upon completion. It's frustrating running an entire set and not getting a single bag.

I have to point out.... you say people won’t do the challenge floors... but it’s been said that they gave us the challenge floors even earlier than we got the potd ones, BECAUSE they were so popular.

And puh-lease with the “people with families and full time jobs don’t have time wahhh”. I have a static mate who works, has a very young baby, and still can make it to our 4 hour Raid nights. A friend of mine works many hours, yet has time to set aside tomorrow for us to get in HoH challenge floors. You wanna do something, you make time for it. You’re not willing to put aside the time, you obviously didn’t want to run it bad enough.

That was the Role play actions at the end of the story, but they suddenly changed their tone from "never seen before in an MMO" to "never seen before in FF14". I really wont trust any of such statements anymore..they are just overhyping stuff in 99% of the cases..

On topic: It would have already solved quite the problems if they had made 50 floors casual and 50 floors hardcore and let people simply start at 51 as soon as you beat 50 once. If they raise the difficulty at least a bit thanks to that, I would be fine with that because even with complete strangers and missmanagement, no real talk about the usage of stuff and more, we still managed to get to 81.

With how much sustain potions you need to burn to not die on floors 80+ it would be really nice if all of the confetti drops from puches were replaced with those, preferably in quantities proportionate to the type of pouch opened.

I really despise this kind of attitude, they already made so many concessions on this content and STILL ppl complains, to the point it'll be made A JOKE and then ppl wil complain that the content is a joke too.
