Permanent collaborations

In the past, I was asking for Shantotto's return. Here I wanna talk about all old seasonal collaboration events: Lightning, Shantotto, Dragon Quest, Iroha, and Yo-kai. I would like all of them back and, this time, to be permanent, not seasonal.

There are many players (like me) that may want to play those not just for the rewards, but for the experience and the story. Seriously, the only one I haven't played was Shantotto's, and I truly would like it... By doing this, both old players who didn't could play them and new ones can have the opportunity. Like with the Garo collaboration, which by the way doesn't have a story.

I know both Lightning and Shantotto's rewards are already in Mog Station, that's why I suggest new rewards from those, but the stories and FATEs would be the same.

I'll explain my ideas of how this should work now. It includes new rewards for these collaborations, a new NPC vendor, and a new item:

Syngiwyb NPC

This Limsa Lominsa NPC vendor from the Lightning event would become now a permanent vendor, so we could get the new collaboration rewards in exchange of tokens, both from old collaborations and possible future ones.

Syngiwyb would be now focused in special collaborations rewards, in a similar way to the Calamity Savager.

Iroha, Dragon Quest, and Yo-kai collaborations

Since these collaborations' rewards are not yet in Mog Station, they would be again available from their quests without many changes.

Yo-kai rewards would still be available from its vendor at the Gold Saucer.

While Iroha's gear would still be a quest reward, Iroha's FATEs would give now tokens to obtain new introduced rewards from Syngiwyb:

* Minion: Wind-up Iroha
* Orchestrion Roll: Recollection (I think that was the theme played in the event's final cutscene).
* Crystal Memory: Iroha (I will explain this later)

Shantotto collaboration

Its story would be the same, but since Shantotto's original reward (her minion) is already in Mog Station, a new reward would be available from the quest, but a similar one to the minion to fit in the story:

* Furnishing: Shantotto Plush
* Suggested title: Test subject...

Also, her FATE would give tokens to obtain new rewards from Syngiwyb:

* Mount: Morbol (allusion to the fact that Morbol is a mount in XI)
* Orchestrion Roll: Reign of Pain
* Emote: Ohohoho (Why not?)
* Crystal Memory: Shantotto

By having now these two XI stories (Shantotto and Iroha) permanent, we could have a 3rd and final new chapter based on XI (since I felt the Iroha's ending was... "uncomplete"). This 3rd chapter could be now a high-level quest set in another place like Othard for example.

Lightning collaboration

Just like Shantotto, Lightning's original rewards are already in Mog Station. So this would give also new rewards while keeping the same story:

* Crystal Memory: Lightning
* Suggested title: Pulse l'Cie...

While from tokens, we could get these things from Syngiwyb:

* Mount: Dreadgnought (a mount I already suggested here)
* Minion: Wind-up Lightning
* Orchestrion Roll: Blinded by Light (heard in some of her FATEs)
* Orchestrion Roll: Saber's Edge (heard in her final FATE)
* Orchestrion Roll: March of the Dreadnoughts (Dreadnought mount's theme)

So, that's what I think. As for those Crystal Memories item, I'll explain it in other thread: HERE

Personally I wouldn't mind this if it was limited to just games from the Final Fantasy series, especially given how long ago it's been since the Shantotto event was around. It'd make for another good way of honoring other elements of past games.

As for other series like Dragon Quest or Yo-Kai, I'd say no to just because it feels like it'd draw too much focus away from the Final Fantasy series, which is what I think the game should honor more.

Yes, absolutely. There's so much history there with the FF back catalogue and even more in-house Square(Enix) stuff with the Mana series, Chrono series etc.
The cynic in me says that the ones they do are all a quick cash-grab, however.

Huh? Kind of make sense if they are temporary events. If you step back and look at the big picture they are temporary events to get publicity. Why should people who took their time to actually do the work be slapped in the face for those who were to lazy to do so. If people really want the items place them on mogstation. To those who lack common sense think about it the following ways. Why would those collaborations stay permanent if theya re ot tied to the main story and two, Do you really think Shantotto has nothing better to do than stay in this world rather than continue her research. Should Lightning be stuck in this world even though she has her own problems? No.

Now whole new rewards and events and rewards would be acceptable. Old ones no thank you.

Quite frankly, I didnt like seeing the FATEs during the events already - they're clearly drawing from a different visual design that doesnt fit in that well with the design we have in FFXIV. Some of the Lightning enemies made it into Azys Lla, yes, but they still seemed extremly out of place in Eastern Thanlan to me.
Same goes for most of the other event-FATEs - and all of that is fine during the actual event! Its 2 weeks of seeing something special, something that doesnt belong in this world... and then have the world return back to normal.

The garo collaboration is only offering gear and mounts (that dont look like they belong in Eorzea either, if you ask me... main reason I never use them myself and probably why I rarely see anyone using them...). Its not adding anything to the open world, or, as I see it: disrupting said open world.

For any non SE stuff (or maybe even for the SE stuff...) there could also be legal complications in regards to wether or not its okay to have the rewards for an unlimited amount of time.

And my last point: It would make the events less special. My concern is a bit that we could also end up seeing less cool events, because there are so many on-going already.

But yeah, main concern: The FATEs dont fit into the game, so I'd prefer not to see them permanently.

That being said, I wouldnt mind seeing those events return on a yearly-basis or something like that!

Lazy... I see how quickly ppl always judges. Not everyone were lazy (If I were, I wouldn't got the Yokai 2nd mount at the event's first time). Maybe some ppl could be lazy, but MAYBE (like me with the Shantotto event) some ppl started to play the game after the last time an event took place. Ppl who would like to play it not just for the rewards, but for the experience of the story. I could buy the Shantotto minion from MS yeah, but it would just be a doll delivered by a Moogle...

I'm asking to turn these collabs into permantent, just like the Garo, or how it looks the MH will be. I don't think collab should be the same word as "seasonal". If you read carefully, I tried to avoid saying the word "event". We already have the seasonal ones (Moonfire, Heavensturn, Hatching...), so I ask to make just for the collabs to be turned from events to permanent, with new rewards for those which rewards are already in MS.

Don't worry. That poster is always against everything that would give players any chance of getting something that right now is exclusive. Be it items or story. He's just the kind of person that goes "I did it when it popped up, so you either should have too or you lose.".

No I'd like to see these stay temporary although I'd like to see another shantotto event in the future. U just have a case of the missing out syndrome and if these were permanent they'd be as interesting as unlocking dyes. And keeping them permanent but also keeping them non canon would be an issue.

If there was more temporary events I would give a no for this. But they are rare like diamonds, so I must agree to more returns.

There is a reason why those crossover events were only temporary and most specifically will not be coming back, and that was because the whole point of the crossovers in the first place was to celebrate certain milestones being reached in those specific games (the FFXI events were to celebrate FFXI's eleventh anniversary of service for the Shantotto event and the official winding up of it's storyline with the Rhapsodies of Vana'diel storyline with that story's main character Iroha respectively; and the FFXIII event was to coincide with the then current release of the second FFXIII sequel: Lightning Returns ~ FFXIII. Likewise the Dragon Quest event was to celebrate DQX's first anniversary of service.).

Hence because all these milestones are long since past, there is no reason to run them, and with the adding of the items they rewarded to the Mogstation, it's pretty conclusive those events are gone and never coming back (it's the same reason you will never see the special events that were run in 1.0 to coincide with the Calamity return, it would invalidate their very reason to be run originally in the first place).

As someone who has been around since 1.0, got all the exclusives there, and have done every temporary event in ARR to date--I openly welcome everyone being able to enjoy the same experience with the game that I have. I think these things should be permanent or failing that, have frequent re-runs of the event. It's not uncommon for these sorts of things to get multiple runs and ultimately, if it gets someone to enjoy something new in this game then I say they are doing a good job.

Certain things like the Calamity obviously can't happen again because it was an entirely different game. But I wouldn't care if people could get the Goobbue and/or Legacy Chocobo mount if they had to do something else. Exclusives are just fake badges of honor, in my opinion. I miss the days when the concept didn't really exist.

Garo is permenant, and is not Final Fantasy. If speculation is also to be believed, monster hunter may also be permanent.

Exactly, whereas fates clutter the overworld and in a way 'take over' the overworld for a period of time. That is not well suited to a permanent collaboration, and would have to be redesigned if put back into the game (at which point, why not just put the resources into a new event). Also, aren't the items on the mogstation? That seems like the easiest solution.

Sounds more like a personal problem. If you play the game should be no reason to miss it unless do to RL. Otherwise website still up with updates and events -.-;

Certain things I could understand PvP Garo is one. Things tied to other things like fates are really just a waste of time. Focus on new content instead. What is the point anyways? Just to collect things? Collaboration events ( hence limited time ) are used to entice consumers to rejoin. So yes being lazy would be one reason. Been since v1.0 but hey I still love this game and FFXI. Maybe in the future once it's dead it may happen just to keep people playing.

Pretty the only reason why as to both is probably due to the sheer amount of resources required for both of those events. I'm personally not a fan because it puts more attention on games not made by Square-Enix (and also because that Garo gear is ugly as sin), but I can understand that with all the work involved to make them happen that they would want to make them permanent.

Certainly not Yo-kai, that happened twice and the 2nd time it came it stayed multiple months.
While i really did love Lightning Returns it was to coincide with the game so i do not think collab events should be permanent.
Only thing that seems permanent is the Garo stuff atm and Monster Hunter we are getting a 8 man fight which is suppose to remain from what i heard.
