Please make the Soul Eater heal not Grit-locked with DRK 4.3 changes

Seeing the listed Dark Knight changes in the preliminary patch notes for 4.3, there was a lot of good and much needed stuff in there, so thank you very much for that.

However there was one glaring omission that was disappointing to myself and many others to not see among the list of changes, namely the removal of the Grit requirement for the heal from Soul Eater.

This change has been one of the most highly requested changes for DRK for quite a while now.

Please consider slotting in this much desired simple change with the upcoming patch, it would be greatly appreciated by the Dark Knight playerbase.
If it is cutting it too close and is not possible with 4.3, then please include it with 4.31.

This was change I expected the most. Really surprised it didn't happen. But yeah, that'd be great thing.

Eh. I wasn't expecting to get a free heal on every combo used. It'd make more sense on something you can hold / use tactically, like a DA Bloospiller or Dark Passenger.

While that'd be awesome to have, and I certainly wouldn't complain, I think a 20% HP leech on Blood Weapon would fit the job very well too. In a pinch you could try to line up Bloodspillers in the BW window for the heals, and it would make Delirium even better. In Grit you'd have a more bulky and non-cooldown restrained heal and damage mitigation, while out of it you'd rely on/take on the challenge of doing good damage across the board to keep yourself sustained.

I agree and think it will happen if people keep asking for it.

It's definitely not going make it to patch 4.3 though.

While I would love to have it for 4.3, I doubt that is a possibility.

However, if they are considering more changes down the line for DRK, please make sure this is considered.

Much like the Shadow Wall change, this is just as highly requested.

I too was hoping and/or expecting this change. But I like the other changes DRK will get in 4.3.

Agreed. Though I doubt we'll see in it this patch since SE normally finalizes job changes with the preliminary patch notes, I'd really like to see it in a hotfix or later patch.

Anyone here know Japanese and willing to post this in the "DRK Improvement Plans" thread over there? Getting visibility on the Japanese forum would probably be a good way to get more folks on board with the idea.

There are three changes I hoped for but we didn't get (in no specific order):
1. Soul Eater HP restore unlocked from grit
2. Blood Price out of grit
3. Delirium as a trait for blood weapon/blood price

That said I'm pretty happy with the changes we did get. I think dark knight will certainly feel tanky.

The fact we get all these changes in 4.3 and still want more shows how poor of a state DRK is in...

Top of my list is living dead, people have wanted that adjusted since DRK was added.
Then souleater and abyssal drain having a 50% hp drain as standard, then 100% with grit/dark arts respectively.
Just making blood weapon and blood price into stances and adjusting delerium to boost them.
Shadow wall could still use some kind of gimmick like how vengeance gets counter attacks.

Yeah as I think about it there are still things that feel like they could use adjustment. For example why do we gain less than 50 blood with blood weapon, when not enhanced by delirium? Why not tune this to be worth 1 bloodspiller, without requiring delirium? Why does blood price on its own generate only half a bloodspiller and needs dark arts to get a full bloodspiller. I realize thats alittle harder to balance with multiple targets, but single target is generally what people care about. Just my two cents. Why not cap our mana out just a smidge higher to be able to hold 4 dark arts instead of being 120 mana short of 9600. Just tweaks, nothing major, but things that would just feel right imo.

To be clear, the changes are great and a great step forward, but I agree with you the conversation is not over in terms of a few things still not feeling just quite there.

I agree DRK could still use tweaks but these were a step in the right direction for sure.

Since the idea SE seems to have for DRK now is strong personal mitigation on shorter CDs, a thought I had for Shadow Wall was a Regen effect while up. Combined with the new Sole Survivor it could be a pretty powerful counter to busters you take with Wall + TBN.

Changes fixed some good QoL things for the class, but there's still more that can be done to improve the job. Really just highlights how much / little design thought went into how they made DRK for 4.0

Boggles my mind how the Dark magic/blood knight has such weak leech abilities. WAR knocks DRK out of the water with self heals

add increse plunge range to 20y, idk why they keep it at 15y it will help a lot.

Honestly I'm glad we have this many changes. Seems they almost learned from pld 3.x

Let's hope the changes continue so that we aren't having to wait until next expansion.

but i would also like them to rework Blood price into a defense CD that restores decent amount of MP per hit instead of garbage amount SB blood price gives ,and not be grit exclusive of course

I mean, don't get me wrong the patch is a lot better than a few minor potency tweaks, but I'm honestly shocked they didn't address Living Dead and Souleater. Dark Arts is another strong point of contention, but I can at least understand that given how integrated it is with DRK's entire kit.

On the subject of Blood Price, I just want the old HW MP regen for ARR/HW content. Right now it's terrible to run old content on DRK because it's currently balanced around the blood gain, which doesn't exist for sub-60 content.

Because SE is apart of our combo, and you'll hit 2 SE during BW. So about 7GCDs and 4autoattacks, plus the blood from SE, should be at least 50 blood under BW.

This is definitely not a urgent matter but, anyone would like some sort of rework on Unleash and Abyssal Drain
In the sens that they're exactly the same, except that Abyssal Drain does more dmg, cost more mana and is at range (and you can DA it to give hp back)

This is just a personal request but I'd like Unmend to become Abyssal Drain upon using DA
It would also make the 30% chance proc on Unleash a bit more useful

I don't think Soul Eater healing out Grit is what the job needs. That's like WAR having heals in Deliverance. I feel that blood price needs to have some kind of defense buff or increase the MP generation when being hit. Dark Passenger can have blind removed and get like a increase damage debuff on the enemies.

Edit: To be fair, it's only a couple thousand HP every other combo for them, but I don't think Dark Knights are expecting a Souleater drain to be as effective outside Grit either. I think most feel the drain potency cut in half would work. That and Sole Survivor would go a long way in assisting their damage intake between busters and lessen the reliance on chancy TBN uptime.

WAR is designed around stance changes. It costs no resources to do so and is oGCD. You also have Unchained to remove the Defiance penalty.

DRK is not. It costs both a GCD and half a DA use to change stance. It does not make any sense to lock parts of DRK's toolkit behind their stances.

Lifesteal also makes a lot more sense on DRK both from an aesthetic and series lore standpoint. The only reason it exists on WAR was because it was grandfathered on to the job. If you want more tank jobs in this game, you have to reclaim these mechanics off of the original two tanks. This game was created with only two tanks in mind, but that mindset needs to stop.

Lastly, a job that has to put up with Living Dead's healing requirements ought to be at least consistently competent at self-healing.

I've been playing WAR lately, and looking at Storm's heals it's not that small after all imo. It might not be a gamechanger, but even those heals are a fluff mitigation on level similar to using TBN every 30s (quick calculation during fight, correct me if I'm wrong). Souleater deals more damage and can be DA'ed for even more, so it'd need some more balancing than just adding lifesteal.

I posted this on the other thread, but I think it'd make more sense for there to be a 20% HP leech added to Blood Weapon. It'd be buffed by Delirium and CD locked. Grit would still be better for mitigation and a bulky/non CD restrained heal, but BW would give you a little risk vs. reward system.
