Story and Lore

-Please note, I have made a Geomancer healer before, but after reading it, I needed much work, plus it was my first attempt at a concept, so I made this new one.

As our story presses on towards Garlean Empire, the Astralagians come across a different breed of Geomancers; ones that's forces derive from the Grand Mother Crystal of the Garelemald. The Grand Mother Crystal shifted their conjuring quite significantly, than those found in the middle most parts of Eorzea.

The Radiance coming from the Crystal also peaks the powers of the Astralagians too, both finding slightly altered versions of themselves in this area and have different abilities.

The High Astralagians guild in Garelemald, are also honed in with the forces of Earth, thanks to the powerful Mother Crystal: allowing the Astralgians to slightly tap into some of the newer energies that come forth the surface, rather than Constellations.

The Grand Geomancers Guild, located in an undisclosed location somewhere in Garelemald, are sought after, and are outcasts; the High Astralagians of this kingdom find them as a disgrace, and wish nothing more than to eliminate that form of conjure for good.

What exactly caused the tension between the two parties is yet known.

This war, that has sprung from this "unknown," has caused both parties to begin fighting each other, opening the door to the Battle of Space Time, and Earth; the leader of the High Astralagans, Forette Attuone will stop at nothing to find the location of the guild and eliminate them; so he takes advantage of the player's knowledge of Geomancers, and tries to manipulate them by giving them access to the powers of the Garlean Astralagians.

The Geomancers, though an outcast, have no price on their head, just yet, but Geomancers as a whole are rare; so most don't comprehend when they lay eyes on a Geomancer, as they are so in-tune with an Astralagian, they mistake them for one: until they hear the chime of the bell.

The Geomancer's Earthen Connection

Where to begin. As much as I want a unique healer, a Chemist, I believe they could make Geomancer a unique healer. Instead of me creating a new Post, I just updated this post. I put in a Google.doc that explains things in real detail as to effects, levels, and such.

What makes Geomancer unique? Manipulating Weather Patterns / Manipulating and changing the Terrain.

[Healing Spells]

Gave them the spell "Luz" which means Light in Spanish, because the Geomancer uses the power of the sun to cure it's party members, and then uses the Earth's array of forces to further bolster, cure, and repel the enemy.

Certain Storm Spells grant a healing, for example: Rainstorm gives a "Regen" Aura on whoever the targeted party member has this on.

Hailstorm does the opposite, it tags the Enemy with a "Drain" Effect, which grants party members who strike enemy with MP. Sort of like: MP Samba from FFXI.

[Explaining the Forms]

As the Geomancer can acquire 3 forms: Wind Form / Water Form / Earth Form
These forms allow the Geomancer to manipulate the terrain with Weather Effects, combining two effects create a Terrain Aftermath; which can be accessed with "Earth Ordinance." Read the tooltip below or on my Google.doc to see what it does and the terrain effects the Geomancer can produce.

• Restores Target’s HP.

Photosynthesis: Grants a powerful Regen and Refresh Effect to Self

Prevailing Wind: Envelops a designated area in a veil of wind, healing any party members who enter.

• Cure Potency: 250
• Duration: 24s

Flood: Deals water damage to enemies in a cone before you with a potency of 300 for the first enemy, 10% less for the second, 20% less for the third, 30% less for the fourth, 40% less for the fifth, and 50% less for all remaining enemies.

Thunderstorm: Deals lightning damage to all nearby enemies with a potency of 420.

• Additional Effect: Increases Critical Hit and Direct Hit by 15%

• Additional Effect: Increases Magic Attack by 5% to self

Hailstorm: Targeted Party Member(s) in range receive a MP Aura

• Additional Effect: 15% of Damage Dealt is converted to MP

Earth Ordinance: Wind, Water, and Earth Forms are enhanced and given Special Bonuses. Combining One or More storms produces Terrain Effects to Party Members within range and enemies within range. Wind Form, Water Form, and Earth Form are required for effects. Astral Ordinance bolsters form acquisition by an additional 10%.

• Geomancers can only have two Forms active at any given moment.

Turbulence: Empowers weather patterns to produce grander effects. Increases Terrain Durations by an additional 50%

• Under the Effects of Weather Forms Geomancer Corresponding elements are bolsters by 10%
• Duration: 10s

Seismic Disturbance: Increases the potency of the next Quake and increases the effects of Terrain Effects by 15%. Doubles the duration of Terrain Effects. Allows the ability to have more than one Terrain Effect.

• Duration: 24s

Umbral Ordinance: Fire, Thunder, and Ice are enhanced and given Special Bonuses. Combining an Umbral storm with a Terrain produces Grander Terrain Effects to Party Members within range and enemies within range. Umbral Ordinance bolsters effects by an additional 10%.

• Terrain Duration: 24s
• Tempest Terrain + Thunderstorm produces: Hurricane: Party Members within range are granted with a critical attack bonus +10% and reduces enemy attack by 10%
• Dust Storm + Firestorm produces Heatwave: Party Members within range are granted with an attack bonus +5% and reduces enemy defense by 5%.
• Rainstorm + Hailstorm produces Blizzard: Party Members within range are granted a magical defense bonus of 10% and reduces enemy magical defense by 5%.

Cosmic Oculus: Reduces MP cost of all spells by 100%.

• Duration: 12s

[Magical DPS]

Water: Deals Water Damage with a potency of 150

Quake: Deals Earth damage to all nearby enemies with a potency of 200 for the first enemy, 10% less for the second, 20% less for the third, 30% less for the fourth, 40% less for the fifth, and 50% less for all remaining enemies.

• Duration: 4s

Sandstorm: Deals Earth damage over time.

• Potency: 40
• Combo Bonus: Water
• Combo Potency: 55

This refined Geomancer concept takes Terrain / Weather Effects and puts them at the Geomancer's disposal. Again, all the basic healing toolkit is there, from the DPS Spells [Single Target / DoT / AoE] to it's curing abilities [Luz / Aluz / Luz III] and it's Regen Spells tied to Storms.

It begins shifting as soon as its able to create Terrain effects by combining different storms. Nothing complicated, but the options are there to bolster the team and inflict status's to enemies.

I did strongly believe Geomancer should have been added to Shadowbringers, as it was portrayed in the AST story line, so maybe they can add GEO in 5.5!! Wishful thinking I know.

I think Conjurer's are practically Geomancers in term of lore...

If Geomancer were to exist as a job of it's own, it'd probably have to be somehow related to them.

Funny thing though is their relation to AST. They’re the AST of the Far East. I feel like SE muddied the waters by including named Geomancers in the AST quests.

The original Conjurer in V1.0 was closer to FF Geomancer in concept (6 elemental magic), but not execution. The original thaumaturge was closer to the White mage in concept, being something like a Priest, but THM became BLM by taking half of Conjurer's magic, and most of the stuff that was cut from Thaumaturge was put into Arcanist and Astrologian.

If you want to get more specific however, Geomancy is what's more commonly known as Feng Shui. Thaumatugy is non-elemental magic of prayer/miracles (eg divinity.) Realistically, without trampling on the game's lore too much, the dev's REALLY should go back and put the original classes back into representing what they were in V1.0, and make them completely separate from the FF "jobs". Bridge those back to the game's jobs by posing a "but what if there's more?" question at level 30 instead of just dragging the player by the nose to it, replace the basic toolkit entirely. It won't happen I know, but it feels like "jobs" obsolete the classes instead of being something completely different, which is what should be implied at level 30. Why waste development time on making the lore fit perfectly when players are basically encouraged to grind past the first 30 levels in a class because they're boring to get to the Job.

Like nobody said the developers have to adhere to logic. It's a game that has flying ships powered by unaspected "magic" as a power source, even though it would make as much sense to hitch one of those floating rocks as a source of lift. (I mean the airships don't make a lick of sense at all, but we just accept it because it's cool. )

It does have its connections with WHM I suppose; but I haven't actually played WHM, so I can't really talk much on how I'd like it to be.

The problem Geomancer is going to have as a healer is that it is competing with WHM heavily thematically. WHM in FFXIV are already tied to the elemental balance thanks to their questlines and it is pretty much impossible to disconnect them at this point. Geo could be a really nice dps class or, ya know, they could break the trinity and make it into a killer magic support but that won't happen either.

Personally I feel GEO would be better off as a support-DPS, like BRD in a way.

Does damage, but also has skills that will benefit the party in some shape or form.

I really like your concept of GEO as a healer but i see geomancers more like dps. Like taking the dps parts of WHMs and combine them with bubbles that buff the party or DoTs the enemy. Maybe even take the Luopans things and make them their own.

This! I think casters need a support caster like BRD/MCH so we can get some more diversity in these parties and how we play the game..

But I believe that Mantle should be given to Red Mage!

However, the fact that SE didn't already incorporate any sort of support utilities to Red Mage, like it's classic Haste, Refresh, Temper, and perhaps a Shell, maybe Geomancer could fit in that role.

I'd love to see a caster in that form; but again, SE could also flesh Red Mage out in 5.0 to be support/caster and allow Geomancer to be a new healer.

I see Geomancer bridging the gap between WHM and AST. But at the same time see it being completely broken and underpowered at 5.0 launch

They could but currently red mage is a failed caster support, rezzing is fine in progression even healing is too, but past progression it's not useful and healing takes away a GCD that could have been dmg and as over tuned as healing is it's just oh so unnecessary outside of solo play...

Knowing SE they will fail at properly making RDM a caster support as they will probably continue to rely on the rezz and healing gimmick :/ but we will see what happens

My problem with this Geomancer idea is that it feels like a white mage upgrade akin to a white sage because they use the same elements, and they even get some white magic spells like dia and haste which makes no sense for a Geomancer. I feel for Geomancer to work, White Mage will need some animations/names changed to more holy things....

But then the conjurer lore would make no sense.... so it's a really tough situation.

Honestly what I would do is the following to allow the Geomancer to fit into the game:

White Mage:
1.) Rename Aero to Dia. (Change Animation to light based spell.)
2.) Rename Stone to Banish. (Change Animation to light based spell.)
3.) Rename Fluid Aura/water spells to Dispel. (Change Animation/Change effect to Make it remove one buff from normal monsters. Basically dispel would work on any enemy that the pushback used to worked on.)

As for Geomancer (Healer):
1.) Give them stone,aero,water (With some gimmick dps mechanic)
2.) Give them quake,tornado,flood (As a finisher or upgrade)
3.) Give them channeled heals as their gimmick.

I'm sure they were playing it super safe with Red Mage, you can tell they didn't want to give it too much utility; but maybe they'll change Red Mage a bit in 5.0 and give it some iconic abilities or spells to be that support/caster. But again, if they're playing it safe, as you can tell they have, they'll probably just add another job to fill that gap.

Instead of replying, I'll edit it lol:

Spells RDM can see that can make them somewhat a support/caster:

*Temper: Perhaps increase Attack
*Haste: Increase movement speed / ability and spell recast
*Shell: Increase party members Magic Defense by a certain%
*Refresh: AoE Manashift kind of ability

What Iconic spells or abilities? Red Mage Iconic thing is to dualcast and they already got that at launch. FFXI is a outlier it's a uncommon build of RDM they never had a focus on debuffing/buffing that was a niche FFXI created. historically they were a jack of all trades that copied a little bit of WHM/BLM/WAR and had dual cast.

I like all those ideas that you added too, changing some spell names around on White Mage to make it be more divine. bc at the end of the day, as my best friend told me, all spells, abilities, etc. are somewhat the same, its just that "Flavor" Text that changes.

I doubt the lifespan has anything to do with it. When SE removed Stoneskin in 4.0 they just gave it back to us in a holy version and changed the name to Divine Benson im certain they can do the same for our DPS spells it's not like it would take much development time since Dia,Banish, and Dispel all already exist as npc spells. I seen light elementals use these spells plenty of times.

Heck we can even add the AOE aero as diaga I seen monsters use this as well. Basically all the resources are there the only issue would be lore, but even SCH lost ruin with broil at the higher levels so I don't see an issue. Just make it that when a conjurer player hits level 30 and equips the white mage crystal their spells are converted to the holy equivalent. And add the Geomancer job teacher right in the conjurer guild to unlock the job akin to scholar and that would be the upgraded aero,stone,water job arsenal. Meaning GEO would start at LV30. Sure two healers in the same guild might seem redundant but in the great scheme of things it doesn't matter we focus on jobs not specs so its not like WHM and GEO would belong to CNJ they would just have to make the experience gained after level 30 be determined by the job not the classes which I am afraid would certainly affect SMN/SCH auto leveling but that was a unfair advantage in the first place and should have been fixed ages ago. You should not be able to level two jobs for the price of one.

With few differences, like renaming Douse I-III to Cure I-III, Gaia's Embrace to Raise and adding Holy or Ultima, for example. That way, White Mage would feel more like a mage, not like a priest. If, unless make GEO like your concept, S-E revamp WHM to be like that, that would be perfect.

Lore-wise, Conjurers have the close link with the nature as defended on this concept of Geomancer. And White Mages is nothing more than Conjurers with prestige (at least on E-Sumi-Yan's opinion).

If I were Yoshi-P and wanted to make the Lore fit correctly again:

- Reset CNJ and THM's kit without a job stone to look more like V1.0's, with THM mostly being Astral/Umbral, and CNJ being 6 elements themed.
- Make White Mage, Astrologian and Geomancer "Upgrade" jobs from having CNJ at 30.
- Make White Mage, Black Mage and Red Mage would be an upgrade job from having THM at 30.

For storyline reasons, WHM would need the player to have played the storyline to 30 to get the WHM stone normally, but can also get the WHM stone by getting THM to 30 and initiating the same quest, but will be blocked from the SB WHM storyline until Conjurer is completed or skipped, as all level 30 jobs are compartmentalized to at least level 60.

Equipping the White Mage job stone would create an entirely new kit that is Astral based (replace Stone/Aero/Fluid Aura with Dia/Banish). Equipping the Astrologian would create a new kit as Astral/Umbral kit like it does presently. Equipping the Black Mage kit would do what it does now. Red Mage would replace existing conjure magic names with Astral magic names/animations, but otherwise be the same. Geomancer as a Healer would look like Conjurer does now, except have all 6 elements represented, not 3.

Like I imagine a Geomancer having two sects, one with something like this

Where the Pink lines represent one sect, and the green lines represent the other. So in one sect, you have one healing kit(healing shields) and two DPS kit (eg single target melee and AOE melee), while the other sect has two healing kits (eg ranged cures and damage reduction shields) and one DPS kit (AOE ranged) assigned in the same place. Or all elements can be represented at once, but they linearly upgrade (eg stone I to stone IV)

I'd have to really look at this more indepth to make sure I've given the idea the time it deserves, but I noticed a few things at a glance.

1, please organize your skills. FFXIV is very gradual at skill prigression and easing players into their rotations. Having your skills organized help players understand the flow, and helps you identify and gapes you may have created in the process.

2, List your traits. It's okay when explaining to show the corresponding traits, but listing them all out helps.

3, Be careful with casts, recasts, and potencies. Some of your abilities have odd cast/recast times, and times. If something is a GCD ability it'll always have the same recast; cast 5 or 7 and recast 6 or 14 seems odd. And for the timers, the intervals are basically 3 and 5, 3 for server ticks, 5 for utility. Other times aren't wrong, just might feel out of place. As for potencies, the best suggestion I can make is look at similar skills on the same role of other jobs for an average, then factor in your design ideas and go from there.

4, This one isn't so much your idea, but a suggestion. Look at the Geomancers of past games and take inspiration for job skills from there. Tbe only one I really see is Bolster. It's not needed but a nice touch.

For storyline reasons, WHM would need the player to have played the storyline to 30 to get the WHM stone normally, but can also get the WHM stone by getting THM to 30 and initiating the same quest, but will be blocked from the SB WHM storyline until Conjurer is completed or skipped, as all level 30 jobs are compartmentalized to at least level 60.

Equipping the White Mage job stone would create an entirely new kit that is Astral based (replace Stone/Aero/Fluid Aura with Dia/Banish). Equipping the Astrologian would create a new kit as Astral/Umbral kit like it does presently. Equipping the Black Mage kit would do what it does now. Red Mage would replace existing conjure magic names with Astral magic names/animations, but otherwise be the same. Geomancer as a Healer would look like Conjurer does now, except have all 6 elements represented, not 3.

Like I imagine a Geomancer having two sects, one with something like this

Where the Pink lines represent one sect, and the green lines represent the other. So in one sect, you have one healing kit(healing shields) and two DPS kit (eg single target melee and AOE melee), while the other sect has two healing kits (eg ranged cures and damage reduction shields) and one DPS kit (AOE ranged) assigned in the same place. Or all elements can be represented at once, but they linearly upgrade (eg stone I to stone IV)

This is awesome! I absolutely enjoyed reading this, and just maybe, we can see something like this happen.

As far as the elements go; that right there is so impressive. If I were to incorporate that into the design, it would have a stance like:

• Astral Sect. and Umbral Sect.

the only issue I'd have is what sort of spells the GEO would have in Umbral stance. I know in a previous post I had GEO have the ability to manipulate weather patterns, perhaps Heat Waves, Thunderstorm, and a Blizzard like ability; without stealing any thunder from the Black Mage.

That would be my only sort of fear. Of course, Scholar in FFXI had the ability to be a full on healer then change stances to be a Caster DPS. Doubtful SE would do anything THAT extreme, but you never know.

Didn't want to resubmit a new thread, so I refined this one, added a Google.doc, seeing we didn't get a healer in Shadowbringers, maybe slinging some ideas for healers could help. I'm all in for GEO still as well as Chemist, but only time will tell. Thanks FFXIV community, hopefully this redefined vision seems fun.

Casting Tornadoes, Hurricanes, Earthquakes, and Europtions? That's not the stuff of a healer, Geomancer should be dps.

True but it’s sort of a fun shift right? Sort of like if Chemist were introduced it would be a unique concept that is outside traditional means of curing.

The GEO cures with the forces of the Earth’s so weather / patterns / and such. Idk I still wish with all the GEO hints in 4.4 and on it would have been a third addition to SHb jobs.
