The sheer amount of salt from half the raid being oblivious and not doing the mechanic would be epic.

Gosh, why? How about they come up with something a little more challenging than seeing how many people can glue their eyes to a focus target and do a U turn?
Gimmick mechanics have to go.
I think all bosses should have Titan Ex mechanics. You get knocked off and you are locked out of the match for the rest of the fight.
The difference is recovery (and these fights don't have enrages). Being able to revive someone is much better than being down a person for the remainder of the fight. A wipe is almost guaranteed if it's the healers and/or tanks who are banished from the arena until reset/clear.
I cant really get behind this idea for a 24 man raid. The extra 16 players can potentially add enough lag that people with less then ideal connections(or less powerful machines) can end up almost unable to dodge mechanics and have the system recognize it(im sure im not the only one whos ever been all the way outside the aoe before it went off and still got hit because the system didnt see it yet). Besides that, not every battlefield is set up in a way that makes sense for falling and not returning. I would propose a compromise. Fall off and get brought back onto the field after a delay. Maybe Cid has to use some tool to lift us back up(im picturing those claw machines from the arcade) and return us to the field(dead but now resable).
Good point (aren't queue times for tanks longer when it comes to 24-mans?), though if we got another fight like Ozma, then permanent stage death would be an issue (since Ozma attacks every tank).
I prefer tether-style mechanics personally. Perhaps tether to other alliance members. Or rot/virus-passing mechanics that involve the whole alliance. The chaos on the first day would be entertaining to watch and to be a part of :p
Rot-style mechanic would make an alliance raid unclearable unless it could be cheesed like Allagan Rot.
They could simplify the rot-style mechanic to something like pass the rot to any tank/healer/dps in another alliance. Maybe something like: if a dps gets the first rot, pass it to a tank/healer in another alliance, then pass it to a dps in the third alliance, then to a tank/healer in the first alliance, and repeat. If a tank/healer gets the first rot, then pass it to a dps in the second alliance, then to a tank/healer in the third alliance, etc. Doesn't seem too complicated, but still keeps it somewhat engaging.
Only if the Twister are like the original Twintania at first.
Rabanastre is almost a year old or something at this point and people still can't do the water spouts for Mateus. Hell, people still struggle with keeping the add and boss separate during Scathach.
Coordinating eight people to handle Aether Rot is a hassle enough as is at times, tripling that would be impossible with duty finder groups.
