All mounts should be able to fly

As the title says I feel that all mounts should be able to fly. Now before you get your panties in a bunch let me explain my reasons I feel this way.

The first reason is due to how swimming was implemented. Since swimming just copy & pasted flying it is locking some mounts from being used that should be able to such as the Elbst and Enbarr.

Second non-flying mounts are next to useless once you start to fly. Right now we have no reason to use many mounts 12 areas because flying is much faster. This is stopping many from using their favorite mounts for the sake of convenience.

Lastly and this is more of a counter to some responses I know are coming. Many are going to say that it doesn't make since for many mounts to fly, BUT we have many mounts that have no reason to fly already such as warsteeds, the t-rex, the tiger, tank mounts, and the elephant. Why is it OK for these to fly and not the others?

I know this will most likely never happen but i just wanted to throw it out there and see how others feel.

I think so too. All fly and swim. They already broke a realism barrier making turtle, elephant, bear etc fly. So that is not an issue. Of the remaining ARR mounts, most can just run on the air like the bear does with no additional effects necessary. Can then remove the flying mount roulette button since the normal mount roulette would work the same.

Agreed. The flying chair and elephant remove any reason for other mounts to not fly at this point. It's just a nuisance to have a handful that don't.

I'd say the opposite actually... I'd like to see mounts that shouldn't be able to fly be grounded... the trex just looks silly... the Christmas bear can be explained away as can a few others... but I don't want to see flying behemoths... the ponies should fly... should be case by case... not all new mounts should fly either...

those mounts become useless then, because after getting the currents you pretty much never need to be on the ground again.
i'd be ok with it if we could use ground mounts in all cities, though.

Those mounts arent useless in ARR areas. You still cant fly in those areas.

To be fair, the elephant only flies because it's wearing magic carpet.

Agreed with the others you mentioned though and let's not forget flying chocobos and korpokkur and freaking floating plesiosaur.

Please let us use the old mounts again!

If recent mounts had more to them than literally just running through the air, sure. Something like Fenrir or the Raigo mount come to mind.

Hey, I know I'm living in a fantasy world when I see a flying elephant followed by a flying t-rex... followed by a spinning fire-propelled flying turtle. It just makes my day as an adventurer.

You know, in the past, I'd have been against it.
Land mounts running through the air is stupid, doesn't make any sense, is just a lazy unimaginative way of doing it, etc.

Frankly though, hard to care these days.

Would be nice if they had restricted a lot of the mounts that do currently fly to ground(panda/bears/lions/panthers/t-rex to name a few), and one to be 100% swimming only(Syldra), but since they kind of went the way of "let it fly!", why not go for all of them being able to fly now?

I may be wrong but I thought there was talk at some point that the ponies from ARR Extreme primals would be able to fly, but it hasn't happened yet as far as I can tell. That would be a fairly simple one to fix, either make it where they fly like the war steeds or use the skeleton from the nightmare pegasus (although I could see some people getting upset over that since you know, PoTD pegasus is pretty darn rare and special!)

Agreed. And to the ones dwfending the "Lore", keep it for your self, if you don't feel t-rex is able to fly, then only walk on ground with him and don't fly, simple enough. All mounts ahould be able to fly, we collected the aether currents for it, and we should be rewarded properly.

Make everything able to fly, make everything able to swim. The lore is already shattered in the name of goofiness for FFXIV anyway.

One thing that'd be nice that could help resolve the immersion issue, though I've no idea how hard it'd be to implement, is an option to view others' Mounts - regardless of which they're using - as a generic Chocobo. I'd use it all the time. Beyond the ridiculousness of certain Mounts, many of them are also so large (here's looking at you, Yol) that they obnoxiously clutter my screen and egregiously clip through everything in sight. Please, let me just overlay them with a standard chocobo if I want to.

It's pretty much certain that all future mounts will be able to fly. otherwise what would be the point of using them? Pre-HW mounts don't fly because flying did not exist back then. But for all future mounts there is no reason to. WoW players have this same argument about why every mount also needs to be a flying mount without realizing why having half be ground only and the other half being flying is terrible. No one would ever use those except for before you got flying and after that it's just to add to the collection.

Well Flying Chocobo is normal, Black Chocobo was the original Flying mount from Final Fantasy In general... We did a quest to make other Chocobo fly tho lol

That's one thing that cracks me up with the Fat Chocobo, swapping the Gysahl herb for a piece of cake makes them fly out of excitement, lmao!

The Marid doesn't even flap its ears to fly, so whatever. You had ONE JOB, mount team!

Seriously though, with the marid and rex they have shown that they don't really care to make stuff mesh with flying anymore, so just make them all fly at this point. Whatever.

I flew the serpent pony a few times just to see how stupid it looked. It met my expectations and then some. Terrible. :P

I'll stick to using it for ARR/Eureka/Frontlines.

No thanks. I really rather not see ash drake farting fire like a rocket to stay afloat. Im ok with comedic flying where a mount is intended to look comedic flying, but some of them do not belong in the air. Id rather they just make swimming not a half assed feature. I hate the screen transition and the fact its just an inverted flying system is pathetic. Yes let me go float through that giant shark. Lame. The fact there is no underwater combat was also an immense let down. Just another system showing how poor the base structure for this game is.

In all seriousness though, I'd be happier if less things flew. I have to admit that I frequent ARR areas and Eureka though so distinguishing between land and air mounts is nice.

Yeah, I would rather have mounts that cannot plausibly fly be grounded. I wouldn't be upset if they took the route of making everything fly though, in that case I would just stick to flying with mounts that seem like they could fly.

I finally got my favourite mount in the game, the Leviathan pony...and I often can't use it :(

So yea I fully support all mounts being able to fly.

I appreciate that you feel strongly on the subject, but people should not be told to keep their opinions to themselves. The forum is a place for everyone to share their opinion, regardless of whether or not it happens to be shared by you.

I’d rather all mounts have music that applies to the area/dungeon they come from, or originated from. I already know Yoshi used the excuse of limitations for not having it, but I still want it. I’d love to have Pharos sirius theme on the Zu, or Haukke Manor theme for the Floating Eye. Etc.

Okay, but why? Music is stored client side. Do they store mount music as entirely seperate copies of the tracks?

I just can't fathom what technical decisions were made in the past to create this issue now.
