Linkshell crests

Hello!
I would like to see implemented a system in which your linkshell crest gains emblems. The emblems won't alter the color of your crest, only add to it.

Emblems will be for achievements such as downing Ifrit, Moogle, Gaurda, HNMs, and completing dungeons or having a certain amount of members?

Not hoping for anytime soon but 2.0 would be great!

What do you guys think?

Let's start by fixing the LS icons first... they seriously stinky!

i agree, i would just prefer the ff11 linkpearls instead these ugly things, but the best would be a system which would permit you to create your own icon.

Yea a system where you can create your own icon would be nice.

I liked just picking a color in XI. I don't really like the 'shield' look. They need to add linkshell admin tools first though >.>

You guys prefer plain (1-colored linkpearl) to something that actually has some differentiability? Wow...

Free company would allow you to make a crests but they said you can't upload your own but they going to add a lot of option so you could make a Crests more unique to your free company. They also said they going to see if you could add crests onto your shield and gear and chocobo.

So too 2.0 there not much they can do maybe allow us to make our Crests any color we want would be a good thing too 2.0 free company.

Honestly I still kind of want a RO system where you could actually level up your guild xD that was so different

That will be awesome, but not like it was on Ro where you donate part of your exp to the guild exp, i would like some kind of guild quest to level up, maybe the first levels something easy like gathering some items (im thinking of gathering a lot of materials to "build" a guild HQ) and on the last ones something more difficult like slaying a big nm or clearing a big dungeon that requires 4 or 5 full partys working together.

:o I like this, maybe both? like maybe exp/quests/dungeon/gathering/nm for different things? Could be to get new abilities that members in your guild can use, new guild actions (spray paint your sigil, hire salespeople for your guild area), then level up your own guild area with gardens/buildings from gathering, or new rights for your members when you clear content. would be fun but thats a lot there~

The current Linkshell Emblem actually resembles medievil heraldry rather closely. Historically, such emblems were used to identify a lord and their household. Members would proudly wear those colours to represent whom held their fielty.

Their application in this game is so appropriate it's uncanny. Please don't take them away. Maybe expand them, add the ability to add mottos (like titles, but for groups), mascots (ie: Garuda can be holding the shield if the shell has bested Garuda) and other decorations. As an example:

The dolphins (yes, that is a medievil depiction of a dolphin) are the mascots, "Sense of Purpose" is the group's Motto and, of course, the emblem itself is the arms of the group.

Now imagine if the shield was your Linkshell, the kangaroo and emu were instead Ifrit and Shiva, and the plant around the base were shrubs native to Thanalan.

This is the sort of thing I want for my Linkshell.

This is the kind of crap people bring up that has no bearing on gameplay, which is the major problem right now. Leave your Goobbue mount requests and Linkshell emblem requests for 2.0!

Calm down. There is nothing wrong with ASKING for them to implement something like this. I personally don't expect them to add anything like this til 2.0 anyway.

I was about to go into a wrath laden tirade on the value of historic influences in a game that takes so much from the late Roman to early renesanse (sp), but you've done a much better and mentally stable job.

Im gonna leave this here just so ppl see how was on RO:

As you can see the first 2 skills you can level up is the guild aproval (needed to enter the War of Emperium) and the guild extension and the guild extension gives 6 slots for new people each level. The guardian research make Guardian pop on your castle when you are defending and the Urgent Call one is an active skill that can be use by the guild master to teleport every guild member to his location.

Well all this skills have the main purpose to use it on the War of Emperium but outside it can be used and will help a lot.

SE should add something like WoE, a big scale PvP where linkshells fights each others for something.

Not sure if that's what you meant, but yeah, I think that visual that signs that acknowledge collective LS achievements would be great!

That would promote collaboration even more and provide collective goals.

Not sure personal achievements should have anything to do with LS icon tho

I actually liked this part of the implementation. That way people with capped classes would still have a way to make their exp useful

As for not being able to upload your own emblem, it's really a pity. RO did it quite simply, all they had was a cache folder where the emblems of LSes you encountered were stored, and with the small size of 16x16 pixels it wasn't such a huge bandwidth/space issue. Those few mb do not matter if you have 11,3GB client data on your hdd <.<

I rather like the shape and heraldic aspects of this games Linkshell indicator. What bothers me most is our color selection. White or Yellow for a base color. Seriously SE, what I would do to a Roegadyn in a Ul'dah back alley for a black and green crest.

I think it's pretty good as it is, there's no need to over-complicate it for such a small icon. I think all they need to do is add a bunch more colour and shape options. If we have more base shapes besides the 'shield' base then that would be cool too.

I like the coat of arms consept, having too many shapes would be silly, but only having one doesn't make sence.

We should be able to pick our colors from a color wheel. I don't really see why we couldn't in the first place.

Before they do ANYTHING, admin controls need to be implemented.

Also, I like the coat of arms concept as well.

I agree about the pearl icon being better, but I like the idea of adding some sort of crest to the icon. I would see it being something along the lines of a crest that shows when your shell has earned the right to summon a primal, and disappears after the right has expired.

The colours and shapes available actually match medieval heraldry. You have two metals (gold/yellow/or and silver/white/argent) and five colours (black/sable, red/gules, green/vert, purple/purpure and blue/azure). Any tincture simmilar to one of these colours is considered to be that colour. For reasons of visibility and recognition, metals and colours are always placed one on top of the other to create contrast. So you can have gold on red, or blue on white, but not white on yellow or purple on blue. The whole point is that you would be able to recognise them from a long way away. And considering we're talking about small icons on potentially distant players, this principle can be considered to apply here as well and all the possible colour combinations are in fact available when considered within these rules.

Those are just some of the more simple examples.

On the topic of shapes, they are also all heraldic ones. A horizontal line is called a bar. A diagonal line is a bend. An arrow-shaped bar is called a chevron. If facing the "wrong" direction, it gets named accordingly, such as "a bend sinister" when the diagonal line is going from top right to bottom left (left handed = sinistral, as opposed to right handed = dextral, the implied norm) or "a chevron inverted" when the arrow is pointing down.

I could go on for hours. :)
