Eureka NEEDS some changes to dissuade people from simply afking next to fatetrains

I was super excited the first 2 days when it seemed like I finally had a reason to grind my ass off on my beloved BLM. I love grinding and farming. Atma was one of my favorite relic steps.

But then fatetrains came to life...

The problem here is this:

The #1 most optimal way of getting exp is farming mobs 6-7 lvls higher than you in group, and running to a fate when it pops.

BUT! The 2nd most optimal way -simply afking next to a fate train- gives you 90-95% of the exp/hour of the 1st one. We have gotten to the point now (atleast in Chaos datacenter) where I can't even fill a grind+fate PF within 30 minutes anymore (during peaktime!), because everyone joins fatetrain pfs or simply enters solo and shouts "LFG fatetrain". And they're right. Why would anyone actually tryhard when they can literally do nothing and get 90-95% of the exp?

On top of that, the few people who are still doing it the intended way, have a relatively high chance of not even making it in time for the fate, because there are 120+ people NUKING the shit out of an NM the second it pops.

So basically, the fair and honest and hardworking players are getting punished, and for what, the 5-10% extra exp/hour, IF you dont miss any fates? As soon as you miss 1 fate, you would have been better off just afking next to the fate train while watching a movie.

Right now I am being forced to join these fatetrains against my will, because I literally cannot fill up "grind+fate" PF's, and solo'ing is also not an option because my 24" monitor is too small to have the map open 24/7. :(

Please do something about this, SE! Nerf fate exp and boost mob exp or something, I dont know. But just standing around and waiting for fates is the most boring thing ever. (And I cannot help killing mobs with my fire 4's that deal 80 dmg)

Edit: Someone posted a VERY good solution to this problem: On top of boosting chain exp/nerfing NM exp, make it so that fates spawn semi random, that way people are forced to spread out + this way there will be actual hype for NM's when they spawn, instead of just "if we afk here it will spawn 100% within 5-10 minutes"

It's more of the party leaders actually if they AFK they should kick them off -.-, they have a 10 min no movement they get kicked off auto. What they should do is if they don;t do mini damage they get Zero credit, no crystals, no items.

Indeed, it is quite awful that the entire chain system isn't being used how it was intended. I think there lies the solution though, simply buffing the chain system. If instead of starting at +0% and then gaining +3% every mob in the chain (plus bonuses at every multiple of 10) it could be viable. For instance, if the chain were longer, let's say 50 as a placeholder, and it gave +2% every mob that would make small chains less rewarding but big chains extremely so. For every multiple of 10 in the chain they could increase the Protean Crystal drop rate further, give a chance at a higher Protean Crystal yield (from 2 to 4?), and after chain 40 add the chance for an Anemos Crystal to drop would make chains vastly more desirable and worthwhile. Would be nice if at chain 50 it gives you 10 Anemos Crystals guaranteed as well as a pat on the back for getting there. As for the chain's time window, it could start at 90 seconds and decrease by 1 second for each mob you kill, the last mob needing to die in 40 seconds.

Either way the devs definitely need to address things so that the train as it exists now dies. It isn't a fun ride for those carrying their weight, it isn't a fun ride for the afks, and it's ruining the entire Eurekan experience.

I've seen people straight up afk next to the fate train (including group leaders) and it can be frustrating. I understand low level characters not wanting to get involved with higher level mob farms, because they do next to nothing damage wise and can die very easily. That's what I've seen more of. Best to just stay out of the way and let the higher levels do their thing until the fate spawns. Some people genuinely do have to AFK during fate spawning, it happens. Done it myself a couple times. But people who are blatantly obvious, mounted up and everything...come on now. Do things die in seconds? Yes, but at least contribute.

This is bugging me too. Just left an instance which I felt was moving too slowly because 100% of the players gather in one place then 70%-80% of them afk while waiting for the others to pop an NM on that position. They use persistent cheering emotes with the glow sticks while they wait; it's like a meme thing now. I suggested a couple of times for us to split up and farm multiple monster types simultaneously to make use of all players and make more efficient progress to popping NMs, but I didn't sway anyone.

There's actually one specific NM I've never seen because nobody ever works on that one. I hear it's a cerberus type enemy but it's not viable for me to trigger it solo because the drakes in that cave are a few levels above the player cap I think so I at least need 1 party there, not just me alone. Like you said, if I do go off alone somewhere I'll miss the one NM that everybody stacks on because all the afkers return when they hear the fate music and mow it down in 15 seconds. It's always the low/mid level NMs like Serket which people farm on my datacenter, even the players up to the lv20 cap, so I will see those ones 50 times each before I've seen the higher one that I'm interested in but other people aren't.

Somebody in my FC admitted to just going into Eureka to afk and play Nintendo 3DS games while waiting for the one "fate train" NM to pop. She hates the content, but I feel it's the way people are playing which makes them dislike it so much. If people spread around the map, farmed things at their own level range and then courteously waited for arrivals from other parts of the map when their NM spawns, I feel we'd have more fun and progress faster.

I think we at least need better protean gains when playing solo or in a small group just chaining enemies.

I hit level 19 by day 4 of patch (day 2 of me not being suspended) and have done it all. 8 finsihed relics. a finished dyable gear set. 33 feathers and 1k anemos in my bags. I've chained mobs for xp. spawned high level fates. Grinded mobs for proteans. and done pazuzu more times than I have a use for feathers. I'm at the point where I just need anemos to finish the last relics and honestly I afk a lot of fates now. If mob chaining groups rewarded better protean and anemos I would do that. But I get the "whats the point attitude" when the mob died before I get off a fire III or IV or even a blizzard III as blm.

I'd say multi-spawning is the answer but I tried switching to that and found I was missing fates because the NM's are dying so quickly that I am not getting there in time even with a mount. :(

I straight up reported two players who were gathering via bot scripts, they're of the same FC and the telling part is how exact and precise their movements are, the fact that they follow a set path every single time, and that it's the exact same path shared between them. Literally all a GM would have to do is watch them do it for ten minutes like I did and they'd be through, but what happened? Still botting to this day. Honestly, I love FFXIV, I've played since 1.0 (lost that account after quitting mind you, before picking it back up again in 2.0), but with each passing season I see nothing but the same, and the same is bad. It is making have contempt for the community. I tried again to get some people to split from the afk train to help me farm enemies in a different part of the map but I only convinced one person, a ninja, which isn't enough. We could be working on 3+ enemy types simultaneously but this datacenter only wants farm 1 thing at a time with utilisation of just 20% of the players while the other 80% afk there.

I joined the main group 'fate train' farming and tanked the mobs but died doing it. I looked over at somebody in my party who could have been heal/res me, but they were sitting in a chair mount not helping. They didn't leave afk to help me (somebody in a different party had to resurrect me) but they immediately stop afk the moment the NM spawned to get credit/loot. We could have more NM spawns if they helped fight enemies, especially if we do more than 1 monster type at a time.

I will have to look for a video on certain NMs just out of curiosity to see what they look like because the choo choo afk train people never do the lv18 and lv19 NMs. They could go many days without a single spawning because I can't convince people to help me farm lv23 enemies instead of afk at the low/mid level stuff waiting for other people to spawn those.

Can you imagine how unacceptable it would be for this much afk in any other content. Like you go into Lost Canals of Uznair and 6/8 people just sit on the floor in each room watching 2 people working hard to clear the enemies, then the other 6 people still roll on the loot.

Part of me feels like the afk timer which removes people from an instance due to inactivity should activate here if the player does not engage enemies. Just movement wouldn't be enough, they have to be on enmity list for a enemy at least every 10 minutes. Doesn't count within sanctuary (port surgate), only starts counting inactivity when out in the field to discourage people waiting at an NM location but not helping to attack enemies there. Not an ideal solution, I'm sure somebody could think of a better one.

Eureka is currently kind of like ARR s-ranks - if you leave the fate train then you won’t be able to get to the boss before it drops dead, but if you are popping your own NM then the train will come and kill it.

Given the slow pop rate of monsters it is probably fine for 80 people to be afk and using /cheerjump.

I feel it creates its own problem. They drop dead so fast because everyone is there. If people split up, in addition to spawn more NMs at once, you can also have time to travel to them before they die because only 20-40% of players are at each instead of 100%. It took a group effort to reduce the efficiency and the fun. In the first few days we did have multiple NMs being progressed toward pop at once and people playing in different parts of map instead of afk huddle.

This probably varies by datacenter and region. I would be surprised if they were all as shamelessly leechy as we have it on Chaos. I think people proved that they cannot be trusted with large group content, like if tomestones were offered in open-world content it would be abused. Even at a group size of 24 like alliance raids you get a portion of participants not trying and waiting for the other players to win the battle.

there's just not enough incentive to split off from the lowest common denomiator type activity.

People, by nature, are always going to take the path of least resistance, and this NEEDS to be considered in the design... I don't know what sort of alternative reality the designers at SE live in, but with the current design this was always going to be the result and nothing is going to change until they start balancing the effort:reward ratio between NMs, standard mobs, and any other activities they add. i.e. With the current design NMs are both by far the most rewarding per kill time and per hour and take the least effort to get a reward from; this is absolutely terrible design.

The balance needs to shifted so that NMs are still good per kill time (i.e. reduce their spawn rate dramatically, and put most on a random timer so that 'NM mobs' aren't seen as more valuable than others), but significantly worse per hour than chaining normal mobs (i.e. dramatically increase the XP and drops from normal mobs, and allow the chain bonus to continue indefinitely (but with bonus capped at the 30x level)). With this balance NMs are still worth killing when they are up, but if you want XP and items per hour, you will make orders of magnitude better progress by activity chaining mobs (in any size party) than someone who only participates in NMs.

I would actually like to suggest that the way NMs spawn is changed, not just the rewards. Rather than NMs spawning immediately when the conditions are met, it could just trigger a random timer that is not visible to players, so people don't know for sure when it will spawn or which NM will pop next and can't just wait around in one place for it to happen. The NMs that are popping now will be because players farmed enemies in that area some random time ago. Now when there is not an NM currently active and you don't know the location of the next, you're encouraged to spread out and farm all the different kinds of enemies to put as many NMs as possible on ready status for spawning later. It's ok to do this in small groups since the NM spawn order is not known, you aren't going to miss one from people camping it.

I am always hoping the /cheerjump on rock/branch people die. Even while I was leveling I always helped hit mobs to spawn the boss. They irritate me and if they die when I am on a rezzer, they stay dead :).

They could make killing enemies more appealing if chain bonuses lasted longer, applied to FATEs at a reduced rate, and also didn't automatically end once you hit 30.

Though they should make everyone have their own individual chain value that won't increase unless they generate a certain amount of enmity towards a monster even while partied to discourage slacking.

Unless the entire Eureka system changes, it will not happen. First and foremost, unless you can get a group that is exactly at your level, maybe one or two difference between all members, your group won't be able to grind effectively. This immediately dissuades grinding because it is hard to get a group. Next, the amount of crystals you get is pathetic compared to a single FATE. This is the real end goal anyways since you need it for all your gear. A single Anemos crystal is worth around 3 Proteans so a single NM can be worth around 40 Proteans and few groups are able to grind out that much in the time it takes to spawn an NM. Experience for killing single mobs are also pathetic to the point where it isn't really worth it for people unless you have that narrow level window for your party, further dissuading people from doing so.

The only way this can be "fixed" is by nerfing FATE rewards into oblivion, but that would make Eureka an even more hellish grind than it is.

They really do need to ease up on how heavily you're penalized/rewarded for level differences so that you aren't essentially forced to get a team of same leveled players.

Killing monsters would also be more worthwhile if they had multiple crystal drops as a standard thing, with only the weakest dropping one crystal. Level 25s can drop 10+ proteans per kill, but it doesn't happen often enough to be worth it, sadly.

I had hoped that Eureka would have unique spawning conditions, a bit like some S-ranks, where the perfect combination of factors begin the spawning procedure (eg a mega rare drop is used at a certain place, during a certain condition). Unfortunately we got the same old 'kill this to make this appear' that we've had since the beginning. I find that puzzles can be incredibly rewarding but many people seem to measure progress by financial factors, rather than leisure factors.

You should be rewarded for actively participating in kills in a significant way, but as it is now, that reward is generally so low that it's scarcely worth it.

Not everyone is leeching.

As a low level, I was hitting high level mobs for NM spawns for maybe 10-50 damage. You literally can't contribute as a low level. Running around hitting things does nothing, gets you killed and puts your rez'ers to unnecessary work. By design, as a low level you have to afk in a safe corner on the Fate train.

Rather than punish players for not being able to do anything, the immense damage gap should be relaxed somewhat and players rewarded a small amount of exp for contributing towards a mob kill.

I think the best solution to that would be to just increase the EXP from enemy kills so NMs are more of a bonus then anything else in that regard.

If the NMs didn't melt so quickly, it would still be more practical for low leveled players to just solo same level enemies somewhere else while something is being spawned, since you're at least getting some EXP in the meantime instead of being dead weight (If you aren't a healer, that is).

If I can get way more exp from killing mobs, I would happily go grind.

As of now, I spent one hour following a FATE train and went from lv 4 to lv 6.

For comparison, would I even go up to lv.5 if I just stayed and tried to grind?

There were no group looking to grind and the entire instance was filled with fate train shout. So I assumed I'd have to grind solo, which makes the experience gain even worse.

It is quite sad and will only get worse at this rate. If you read reddit regularly, you would realize that the majority of the community there simply justifies AFKers. I've notice on the daily bases that the overall spawn rate of NM is gradually slower and slower as each day passes. About only 15-20% of the instance population is actually killing monsters while 80% are doing nothing. If do not see at least 2 full parties being active, I abandon that instance. It is actually quite common to see high lvl monsters taking a tad longer to die than few days before because no one gives a damn about it. Not even a single tank.

That is ultimately the flaw in Eureka's design. There's no reason to do much but kill the NMs because the rewards of everything else pales in comparison and just isn't worth doing. In order to discourage this behavior, they would either have to nerf everything into the ground or greatly increase rewards from other methods.

What you have here is the entire community seeing the path of least resistance - it is datacenter wide and quite frankly, its a vast oversight of anticipating player responses to content. Theres zero QA or any sort of content testing to identify any of these problems - which are DATACENTER WIDE mind you.

I afk trains regularly. Yes, im even that person sitting on a firebird with my TV volume up waiting for that little NM fanfare. Sure, i'd love to grind out all my exp and loot the hard way, but theres no value in trying to slaughter enemies 30 people are also targeting - only meaningful exp i've ever received outside NM's was prior to level 4, and the occasional 500 exp or so off a wraith at level 19. People can hate on me all they like, but im not going to be able to solve a broken system of this magnitude myself.

Fix the system, and hopefully fix how content is QA'd - this oversight is beyond me that progression was released in this way. Lowering the 144 player count, randomizing NM spawns, and improving chaining are all great suggestions - honestly, randomizing NM spawns by itself would fix almost the entire problem by itself. Lets be real here - 144 players on content scaled so that an 8 person team can reliably spawn and kill every NM assuming proper mechanic execution on bosses with fewer mechanics than dungeon bosses?

I'd like people to at least be alert and, if you notice that enemy farming is going a little slow and you spot an unclaimed enemy first, to help out. The annoyance with people sitting on a mount or using a persistent cheering emote is they seem like they want to advertise to everyone nearby that they are deliberately not helping. Why the firebird? There's also a lot of neighboring spawnable NMs really nearby, so you can farm a nearby enemy to prep that for its next window instead of the one the main group is farming and still be close enough to make it back for the NM pop. The design does need some work but players are making it worse by making the smallest possible contribution to the group. I regularly have to tell people to spread more because there are lots of mobs they are missing and it's not efficient me doing them all by myself. The ones who afk got so used to doing it at every location that they don't even check if other people are still farming for them. I'm like come on guys, we're all here for cyclops but there's 10 more of them around the corner that nobody is touching except me. It's making me be lazier and taking breaks when I see so many other people do it, like why should I do their work every time, but I don't stop for long because I have guilt and ultimately I'd rather play than claim rewards for afk.

Yesterday, as a L-20 and after helping L-4, 6s and a 7 get nms complete while most stood on a rock or branch cheering, the train went to a boss with L22-24 mobs where they promptly died and there was nobody to rez or heal in our group. Adds that the lowbies pulled just by being there came running at all of us. I unsynched and ran to safety leaving the fate I had help farm for them and left the group. Note to self: leave a fate train if people in my group are more than 4 levels under me.

This has been my experience as well. Sometimes even getting an invite to any sort of group when I was level 5 or below simply didn't happen if I announced my level. Saturday night, I switched from a dead instance and landed in a brand new one. The instance organized fast, and we had NMs spawning one after another. I went from level 9 to level 11 in just over an hour or so. It was amazing and sad since half the time I could hardly contribute to the normal monster kills since as a caster, I could hardly get any spells off before mobs died and being lower level, I died pretty easily. Once the actual NMs spawned they melted so quickly I doubt I'd have been able to get there in time if I was not already with the train. Hell, even Pazuzu was dying fast.


It was fun, but I had more fun when I put together a full level 3-4 group and we grinded out chains and lower level NM spawns by ourselves. However, it was by far the less efficient grinding method. I'm hoping the changes that were made today will help expand the viable options, but that NMs are so rewarding and die so quickly due to the entire instance being in the train means very little is likely to change.

The problem is: when I was your level, I would call out "L-10 lf NM train up to 14 or 15", (not 16-20). L 1-15s have no biz being in an area where L 20-24 mobs are because those are difficult even for the L-20s and you pull xtras getting us killed. When I was too far under leveled, as I went along, I would stay back if they went to hit the L 22-24 mobs and catch the train again when it exited the fate area. I also did some instance hopping until I managed to grab a group in the train more suited to my level. So consider this: think about others and stay in train areas where you don't get the higher killed, after all, we are the ones killing for you.

The goal should be to split the train up. If I were designing this one of the things I would do is make it so that if you are ‘x’ amount of levels below the fate’s level you don’t get anything. No exp, no crystals, nothing. I would also make it so that the rewards for someone so many levels over the lvl of the fate would be so paultry that it wasn’t worth their time to go do, even synced down. The goal to have fates done by the levels they’r meant for.

The problem is exactly that second point, while level 20's don't get exp from NM's they do get crystals and lockboxes. The first 3 to 4 NM's don't drop all that much to make them worth it, thus a lot of trains will skip them, but the rest drop good amounts for the effort they require (none) and so trains will decimate them upon arrival. Unless a lowbie gets into a fresh instance they can kiss the chance of doing any NM within the 5 to 12 range and be forced into doing the 13+ NM's with the train or grind for a ridiculous amount of hours in comparison. The new EXP buffs have been tested and don't equalize the difference, 100% so if you miss an NM due to being elsewhere and chaining. At the end of the day, not joining the train for exp isn't an option and doing lower level NM's for high levels is and remains worth it, not for the EXP but for the lockboxes and crystals

When I say paultry, I'm talking about everything. The rewards for high-level people doing Cactuar or Emperor as a couple of examples would be not worth their while. The way the loot boxes and crystals are missing, and then scale for you as a low-level player doing fates way above your level; it would be the same for high-level players doing low-level fates. The farther you are from it, the less you get, ultimately getting nothing at some point.

The only issue is the way the fates are set up, with the mobs around the fate being several levels higher than the level of the fate itself. The adds may end up killing them before they can finish if they group is not large enough, so they may need to adjust something there.

But I would make rewards for people doing fates far above or below their level not worth their effort. Hopefully, that would create two, maybe three groups, chaining mobs and doing the low, mid and high-level fates separately.

im sure alot of the afk player have the same problem like me. i cant see any monster. euraka is still broken SE need to fix the invisible mess! every 2-3 NM i get nothing cuz no chance to hit it.
