PvPers claim you hate them, but presently they are the only community continuing to obtain exclusive items (legacy have them but that was a one time deal). One could argue that those who purchase physical goods can also be considered to own exclusives, but that doesn't involve gameplay.
I propose we bring back time gated holiday items, for one, and stop adding them to the Mog Station. It used to be the way of things, but you took away that exclusivity. You did the same for region locked items. Stop bringing them overseas. Same goes for Amazon promotions- make something new, and if you didn't do the event, the chance is lost.
In addition, I suggest adding even more exclusive items for other forms of gameplay, such as time gated raid achievements and items, similar to World of Warcraft's. I'm sure there are other ideas that players can come up with.

If some people would like things to be more exclusive or more things that are exclusive, then the ideal solution is to exclude only those same people that advocate for exclusivity from those things.
That way, the only people that get excluded will be people who want someone to be excluded, whereas people who would rather not have people excluded remain unaffected.
And then, after a couple years, we'll make a poll among the excluded to see how many of them still see exclusivity as a good thing and allow those that changed their mind to be included as well, while keeping the rest excluded in accordance with their wish for people being excluded. -

The alternative is to request Feast rewards, legacy rewards, preorder bonuses, retired item codes, etc. which are unavailable currently to make their return.

I'm not really into obtaining holiday exclusive nor buying stuff on the Mogstation, but if a particular item is exclusive for a given time period (such as Holiday items), I naturally assume that if I want them I need to obtain them now or else I won't be able to. I think the only thing I'd really have a problem with is if an exclusive item for a holiday event gets put up for sale and then re-introduced for the next similar holiday event.. Like double-dipping with the same items. I'm not sure this is the case, because again I honestly don't pay much attention to the rewards or what's on the Mogstation, but that would bother me a bit.. Even though I'm not one that usually participates in these things.
Other than that, I don't have any particular resentment if they chose to sell items that can no longer be obtained/won't be re-introduced. At the end of they day they are running a business and if you don't make money you go out of business. And they aren't forcing you to purchase them so anyone that is buying them is willingly doing so. I kind of understand the "this used to be exclusive but now it's nothing special" sentiment. But how often are you really showing that stuff off? I mean really. How many people are paying attention to your legacy chocobo (or cactaur earrings, or whatever)? I certainly don't pay much attention to what's going on, unless I see a parade of fat chocobos in Rhalgr's or something lol -

This is a sentiment I share as well, although the validity of Legacy status in this context would be touchy, and is very much fueled by one's concept of what it represents. For me, I see FFXIV Online as technically a separate game, and the company allowed them to take items from said game into the sequel, along with special designation for their support of the project despite its hardships. That won't fly with everyone though, and in past threads about this topic, I've seen members state that any arguments against the status quo on exclusive items would have to include Legacy to be considered universally defensible.Quote:

To me, as a player that was not around during 1.0, it just feels like favoritism when a select group within this game are given exclusivity when others aren't. And it doesn't really make it feel fairer to explain that those people were playing a different game and that those items should only ever have been available in that game and not this one, because in that case why should characters in this game have the items, and why should that mean that they couldn't also be made available in this game? The only thing that did make it seem fair to me to know that these items were around and I couldn't have them was knowing that I, and everyone else, could get items from simply playing this game that would indefinitely remain exclusive in the future, and that as long as these events kept happening, everyone to come after me could be exclusive too, and we'd all be on equal ground as far as exclusivity is concerned. Part of me wants it to work like the Makai gear in that you can purchase the original gear from the Wolves Den with Marks BUT you can also purchase some cheaper copies of them with MGP from Gold Saucer. I mean some of that Feast gear is really nice but I completely understand the it's only fair for actual serious PvPers to get rewarded at the end of their season.

Raiding gear and even more so PvP-gear being exclusive is fine in my book - its the reward for putting effort into something. Earning the "right" to wear that gear by doing something a bit more outstanding than doing a 15-minute-event-quest.
Its news to me that gear gains anything lookwise (you know, the important part about gear/clothes/glamour: does it look good?) by being exclusive. The only vanity-effect that exclusitvity would have is "Haha, I have this [because I played this game last year and did a 15-minute-event-quest] and you dont and you can never get it!"
...whats won by that? -

Making everything so easy to get also destroys content as well because it destroys value in the rewards..
Take a look at palace of the dead for an example. They added those sacks in that were supposed to reward players for exploring the floors and digging a little deeper but players could get so many of them often 3-4 sacks in a 10 floor run. and everything you get from those sacks is worthless junk because its all so common in the game that players basically just ignored them. It's simply not worth making the run take 20 seconds longer to go and get that sack. So it just gets ignored. Thus destroys the entire purpose of them and as such damages the content itself.
The same thing applies to aquopolis and the lost canals. They throw so much stuff at you that its all essentially junk and thus players hardly bother with it anymore. except maybe for a week when they add a new glamor material. but it soon dies again.
In a way even dungeons are the same how many times do players run through dungeons and completely ignore the treasure chests even if they're only 2 steps away....
And its also true for doh/dol. it's not really a case of NQ items and HQ items. its more a case of trash items and NQ items because virtually every crafter has a 100% chance of hqing everything that HQ items are basically the norm... and even on the supposed rare materials for gatherers it's ridiculously easy to grab large amounts of them in no time at all. which is why level 70 ores are basically the same value as level 50 ones.
So yeah I think rarity and exclusivity is a good thing and would actually help content. if those sacks from potd for example were rarer but actually worth something a lot of players would take the extra couple of minutes to look for one rather than just get to the next floor as fast as possible..
Also it's been said by so many people over the years but if gear was more prestigious and valuable a lot more people would raid. but simply don't bother because the gear will be trash the moment the next patch lands... -

The OP was arguing for time-esclusive-items, aka: Items from the events being lost forever to someone who didnt do the event back then. Thats the point where I have to ask "But why?"

All your examples are something the person who just bought the game could still achieve if they put their mind to it - making the mounts rarer (I'm not sure if thats a good idea - unsyched is keeping this content alive and you had your time being special with a Phoenix-mount, now you can be special if you get a Shinryu-dog - considering how easy Byakko is...) or adding rare drops to PotD are all things the new guy could achieve. And they'd actually be achievments. Not "Congrats, you were subbed during those two weeks and clicked through a bit of dialouge! Here! Have this mount!"
For all I care: Lock more stuff behind difficult content in the game, to make it exclusive and rare! But if you do that, keep it in the game for people to achieve at a later time!
I'm not a fan on how the Feast-rewards are handled there either, but since thats a tournament... I can understand having new rewards all the time. Didnt they introduce a token-system or something like that though? -

I really couldn't give a damn about exclusivity. My enjoyment of something is not deminished by the fact someone else also has it.
I think previous event things should be the only things on the Mogstation - something that was originally obtainable in game is available for people who missed it or just started playing.
That's my two cents.
