5.0 Job Abilities Wishlist/Speculation

Besides fixes to existing abilities and revamps of existing jobs, what do you want to see added or think will be added with the level cap raise?

For Bard I'd like to see them get their own Bane and I wager they'd get another song or two like a single target HP regen or a haste effect to draw on songs from other titles in the series.

For Ninja, I want something involving a giant tiger. That was the best part of the level 70 quest and I want it. I don't care how.

Summoner besides the obvious desire for more egis and demi-primals, their own Iron Jaws

I think it would fun if I list a few things I do not want to see.

1) I do not want to see a crossrole action skill shown during the 5.0 job preview.. RESCUE *cough*

2) I do not want to see stone 5, fire 5, blizzard 5 ect..

Cross Sect - Allows next Aspected spell to apply both the Shield and Regen at the cost of double the mana. (120 second cooldown?)

It has to be special, like a CD of some sort, a trait (like making umbral heart boost spells to rank5) or even a finisher. Like "200 potency, deals more damage the less mana you have" making it something you only use as the last spell of your rotation.

I like that idea, although I'm not sure how practical it is.

GLA/PLD I would like to get back the old 1.0 weaponskill Red Lotus (we got back Goring Blade in HW at least so it's possible!) :)

Phalanx as well (although I guess it's already kind of in the game anyway as Shield Swipe, albeit modified).

Also, I know it's a lost cause but I really feel like I'm missing something with the loss of CNJ spells now as GLA/PLD - especially not being able to heal myself at low levels (in other words, doing low level synced content when there is not an external healer around.). Swiftcast as a role ability was allowed to be shared between both healers and casters so why can't at the very least Protect be shared with tanks? Or if GLA/PLD can't have CNJ spells back, please can we have at least a basic low level cure spell/ability that Clemency replaces? (If doing low level content level synced down, Clemency would be replaced in turn by this low level cure).

There is a lot of low level content that was originally designed with the old cross class system in mind and thus expected the player to cross class Cure to survive. Now that's no longer the case, such content is now unbalanced (level 30 GLA class quest fight is an example of this). So a low level healing spell for GLA/PLD to compensate would be very welcome. :)

For BRD:

• 2.0's shadow bind effect (cross classable to ninja)

Bard:

Timing: Basically, this will just be a reward system that would insentivise players to keep songs active throughout encounters. It would basically give rewards for switching the next song in a certain amount of time, and would be telegraphed by the song gauge blinking red.
For examples: read below.

Wanderer's minuet reward: Straighter shot proc chance up for the duration for song activated during timing.

Mage's Ballad reward: River of Blood activated for duration for duration of the song activated during timing.

Army's Paeon change: Once all of the notes are activated timing will activate.

Army's Paeon reward: Activating timing will continue its effect for the duration of the song activated during timing.

Ok we can work with this maybe. What if it was like Kuribu in Lost City HM? Depending on which mana was higher, it would either be a weak party heal or it would leave an enemy damaging puddle on the ground. Give the dot a 30 second or so duration and slap a 25s cooldown on the ability to allow for reallignment before the actual cast.

• Raid support more integral to Bard gameplay in a way present at almost all times and as capable of greater flexibility and nuance.
• Songs are again at least partially raid buffs and consume mana over time.
• Song benefits are now split among allies (with a small bonus to the total with each additional ally affected) with allotments based on proximity. Their net worth is therefore very similar both in light and full parties.
• Song no longer have cooldowns. Instead they now have an activation cost and a drain cost that ramps up over use and gradually fades back to normal when out of use, allowing for lenient but nuanced use in any given situation. (Should I cycle just two songs and a break, generalize across all four evenly for maximum overall coverage, or what?)
• Foe Requiem has been returned as song that is equally sustainable as the others, but is also mutually exclusive with them and is no less situational. Each of the four songs has a roughly equal portion of near-direct damage benefits and utility.
• Bard is now capable of further point-support through Reprise, in place of The Warden's Paean. The Warden's Paean is generated through Army's Paean, Prince's Ballad through Ballad, Zephyr's Minuet through Minuet, and Requiem for the Fall through Requiem. Each has powerful single-target effects for oneself, an ally, or an enemy, but consumes a heavy mana cost.
• Troubadour remains basically untouched, but also has an effect specific to Foe Requiem.
• River of Blood, Pitch Perfect, and Army's Paean's Attack Speed bonus mechanics are now provided through baseline mechanics that allow for specialization through its actions (e.g. choice and prevalence of skills) rather than stance and can be mixed to finely-tuned goal results.
• Straighter Shot is no longer a fixed-duration buff, but now feeds into and from unique mechanics in coordination with Heavy Shot.
• Windbite and Venomous bite are no longer fixed-duration debuffs, but can be quickened, extended, and/or effectively amplified (played off of) by other actions.
• Windbite and Venomous Bite now provide greater versatility. Caustic Bite and Stormbite are now special effects permitted by their respective traits, rather than mere duration extensions.
• Bard remains without cast times, but does take allow for optional charge times for stronger shots on Heavy Shot, Windbite, Venomous Bite, and Kill Shot. These can adjust both strength and effect.
• AoE damage now better interacts with ST damage, and ST damage with AoE damage.
• Greater interaction between Swiftshot/Magnum (Bloodletter/Pitch Perfect), Volley (Rain of Death), and Empyreal Arrow and song effects.
• New "Harmonics" and "Dissonance" mechanics attached to personal skills and victims thereof, respectively.
• Barrage reworked to quickly allow attack commands to be mounted for multiple targets, to all be simultaneously released when Barrage is released, allowing for DoT spreads and coordinate effect triggers. Unique animation combinations created.
• Traits now allow for the acceleration of both Barrage and Empyreal Arrow.
• Quick Nock now shares a slot with Wide Volley. They play slightly differently into the Focused Fire mechanic, since now Quick Nock fires over a duration as per its animation, while all Wide Volley strikes hit simultaneously and Quick Nock is capable of some spread effects that Wide Volley is not, but they are otherwise just two animations for the same damage per TP at less than or greater than 18 yards.

Ability effects gained: 17
Mechanics gained: 6

I'd love to see machinist get more utility since bard brings so much and I'd like to see use of turrets. Something I was thinking of is a Knight Autoturret. It's use is to create of a field that lowers incoming damage for a period of time (10-15secs) and once done it detonated for something like 200 or 300.

Ok, the monk job in FFT had a lot of healing utilities as well as two ranged attacks (wave fist and earth slash).
Revive was literally a zero range physical attack rez for one character, stigmata would remove negative status effects (also close range), and Earth slash was straight line AOE with a range of seven squares. from your unit. And all of them were instant casts.

I think we actually had the Earth Slash back in 1.0, albeit with the same animation as Howling Fist. The current name changed version which may be as close as we'll get, though to the originals, as elements in themselves are irrelevant at this point. Perhaps Monk-specific or trait-based elemental synergies or integrations, etc., would allow for a second one, or for a more meaningfully element-variable Howling Fist/Earth Slash/Burning Wave.

Hmm, I never played 1.0. They could also implement what they did to decrease War's button bloat and explain it as something like changing from crane stance to Tiger or something. And, they could also add attacks that would automatically switch the stance you're in to the one that it shares it's elemental attribute with.

I was just thinking Fire/Earth/Wind Tackle, but with more than just one of three being worthwhile for 99% of the time, and without one of three being self-harm 99% of the time.

I honestly don't want to see any new abilities. I would prefer traits for various classes to round out the existing toolkit.

Monk
- Tornado Kick only requiring one GL stack
- Wind Tackle grants a GL Stack

Dark Knight
- Bloodspiller refreshes the timer on Blood Price/Blood Weapon

Bard
- Iron Jaws refreshes Straighter Shot

MCH
- Heavy Shot procs reduce the cooldown timer on Gauss Barrell

AST
- Benefic reduces the cooldown on Earthly Star

These are just examples and not something I am exactly sold on but ideas floating around in my head.

I was thinking of a Knight autoturret, but I'd rather it was a turret that followed you around more like an egi. (Better replicating the 'enhanced manoeuvrability' of the knight piece)
It could gain better utility through another skill.
Perhaps an armour piercing shot that inflicts a magic debuff, or a single target damage mitigation skill.

Purely aesthetic:
No more Stones for white mage please. Or even Aero. Instead of spamming Stone I want to spam holy/light aspected attacks like Dia (not a fan of WHM being what is essentially a druid as I envisioned it to be when I started).

Would be even nicer if it's a trait which replaces Stone (or... skill glamours, anyone?).
Perhaps it could apply a debuff which reduces the target's damage?
If they're going to add more skills, it would be a nice addition to have more choices on how to spend lilies.
I thought of spells like Bravery/Faith(combined) and Haste but they're technically already on the game (AST cards).
They could give back Cleric Stance by having a similar ability which consumes lilies and a longer duration.

for Scholar i want the ability to sacrifice the fairy either aoe heal or buff the party depending which fairy you sacrifice i will also like it to be introduce a new fairy that dps and heals by stealing life from enemies. also the ability to fuse with fairy to increasing healing in defence abilities in able to fly.

Banish exists as a spell that Light Elementals cast. The Ananta enemies cast Luster also.

1) Rework MCH to feel less clunky and redesign that silly over heat mechanic.
2) Resigned the pet system, its about time. SCH/SMN/MCH really struggle with it
3) Either add new versions of the current egis or update their models, they look so terrible...

Odd thought: I'd actually like for Machinist turrets to have a lot more interplay and to be swapped out and activate more quickly... and for Gauss Barrel to actually be a turret, Gauss Ring/Accelerator, used for capitalizing upon burst and creating piercing AoE, etc...

Here is what I want:

WHM:
Reraise - A self cast auto raise that applies a 5min debuff that prevents reapplying it when K.O.
Dia- Deals damage overtime that gradually gets stronger with each tick, additional effect: targets that attack the enemy inflicted by this debuff get a very small temporary healing potency received buff.

SCH:
Adlo II - A full shield, has no healing properties.
Leech - Channels a draining tether between yourself, the enemy, and the target with the highest enmity. Dealing damage to the enemy and recovering the highest enmity target HP.

AST:
Rewind - applies a buff on the target that absorbs all the damage done to the target for 5s after expiration of the buff the target receives the damage as a DOT over the next 10s.
Temporal Rift - creates a temporary object in the field that absorbs 15% of the damage received by the party for the next 15s. After rift expires the damage absorbed is distributed to all nearby party members.

Abilities for WHM:

- Refresh: Use 3 lilies to clear DoTs and Debuffs that isn't cleared by Esuna.
- Shell (yes, SHELL): Use lilies to reduces target's damage taken. Basically the same as PvP Protect. Including the protection given according the number of lillies.
- Quake/Tornado/Flood: Another WHM AoE spell to DD
- Water: To not just spamming rocks.

And considering that it's a wishlist...

- Ultima: The finisher. It can use lilies to be our finisher.

WHM traits
- Secret of the lily III: Now casting regen gives one lily. Each regen tick have a 20% chance to give a lily as well.

Monk:
A animation overhaul, similar to what MCH got. Looking at every other job in the game then looking at Monk, they're just so incredibly boring to watch. The Greased Lightning buff used to look cool, but now it's next to awesome looking stuff like BoTD and Inner Release. All of their attacks save for Elixir Field are barely noticeable, while you can easily spot a DRG hopping all over the place or a Nin using their frog.

I feel like this could be a big step in getting more people to play it as well, because it's still by far the most unpopular melee.

WHM:
A stronger identity. To me, their identity right now is extremely flimsy. They can heal slightly more than other healers and do slightly more personal DPS, but they offer absolutely nothing unique to the raid. Their aesthetic has also gotten pretty boring lately, being more about cleric-like spells rather than nature which looks pretty meh overall

Please no ridiculous gunfu kungfu. And I'd really, really rather not be cloaked in color splatter any time I haven't screwed over my rotation.

To me, skills like The Forbidden Chakra, Howling Fist, and Rockbreaker cut the perfect balance in terms of visible vs. ostentatious presentation. Heck, I even slightly prefer those first two over Elixir Field, even if I'm glad to have that one intentionally humorous animation in the toolkit.

Kinda like the monk animations. It's like a combination of break dancing and old kung-fu flick choreography.

Astrologian:
Expanding it’s dual-sect mechanism as a stand in for either WHM or SCH, while also including two more classic Time Magic spells with some added utility, further solidifying it as the utility healer.

Gravity Update
Change the damage calculation to resemble an inverted Essential Dignity.
100 potency base damage that receives a bonus based on targets HP, up to 300 potency at 100% HP.
This would make it a decent opener for pulls, before the tank takes a significant amount of damage that you need to heal, with Dominance being your potential finisher. It also serves to level enemy HP in an AoE pull, so the party can continue to use AoE moves for longer before they’re forced to resort to single target attacks.

Combust/Combust II Update
Initial hit deals 10/20 more potency damage than subsequent DoT.

Lv.72 Trait: Chain Reaction
Gives each tick of Combust/Combust II a 10% chance of triggering the ‘Chain Reaction’ effect. The next Combust/Combust II used has the potency of its initial hit increased by 50 and inflicts Heavy. Kinda like a weaker Thundercloud.

Lv.74 Spell: Haste
Increases the potency of ‘on-tick’ effects by 50%
This includes Autoattacks and HP, MP and TP regen, plus any HoT or DoT currently active.
Can only be used when in Diurnal Sect.
Duration: 20s. Cooldown: 90s
(The inclusion of DoTs makes it slightly a double edged sword in the wrong situation. Otherwise it’s useful when used with the Arrow, as the extra TP regen rate offsets the TP drought a higher skill speed inflicts.)

Lv.76 Spell: Reflect
Blocks and returns 20% of any magic damage inflicted back on the attacker.
Increases the duration of any existing shield on target by 10s.
Can only be used when in Nocturnal Sect.
Duration: 10s. Cooldown: 90s
(The effect seemed a little OP so have to reduce the duration in comparison to Haste.)

Lv.80 Ability: Syzygy
Resets up to three active cooldowns. 180s cooldown.
If more than three abilities are on cooldown, the three are chosen at random, but with a preference towards non-card abilities, e.g. Essential Dignity, Earthly Star, Celestial Opposition, Collective Unconscious, Haste and Reflect.
(an astronomical term for alignment of three celestial bodies)

All in all, these updates and changes are meant to bring it more in line with its ‘Time Mage’ roots.
Two skills straight out of the time magic spell set, a cooldown or ‘time’ management skill, and bringing Gravity back to a HP% calculation.
While Chain Reaction makes DPS a little more hands on and gives reason to apply and reapply Combust/Combust II.

I've just been playing RDM as of late here's what I want to see:

I'm sure SE will consolidate and remove a good bit of abilities / spells on 5.0, sort of like what they did with Stormblood in order to reduce bloating and make way for newer and more unique abilities.

This is my take on 70+ RDM.

-Verblizzard / Verwater: One of them or even both be an AoE (for trash mobs)

-Party buff spells like:

Temper (AoE): Increase Attack by a %

Haste (AoE): Reduce Skill Cast time by %

Refresh (AoE) : Grants Gradual HP Regeneration over time

Verfreeze (Single Target) / Verquake (AoE) ancient finisher

Meaning I want a new AoE dance rotation that finishes off with Verquake.

Abilities: 70-80

-Composure: Doubles duration of next party-wide buff, but doubles MP consumption

-Saboteur: Doubles the amount of manameter generation from White / Black Spells at the expense of costing double the MP.
Example: If Veraero II White meter = +11 (+22) MP: 480 (960)

-Equanimity: The balance between White and Black become One, allowing ALL spells to equally increase manometer.

-Chainspell: Grants Double or Triple Dualcast Effect, at the expense of reducing Manameter generation by 50%.

Those are my hopes and wishes!

for SCH, I'd just like to see an alternative use for the Faerie Gauge, and I'd like to see Meltdown. Perhaps the two don't have to be mutually exclusive.

Meltdown: Deals unaspected damage with a potency of 100. Meltdown's potency is increased by 40 for every 10 points of Faerie Gauge you have accumulated. Consumes all Faerie Gauge.
