% Meld Success Rate

We need a stat to affect meld success rates, I'm not against the current %'s but the idea that the best gear in the game can be created with the same success weather naked and using an R1 tool or decked out in fully forbiden matteria'd HQ'd top tier gear is INSANE, this needs to be fixed.

Right now the gear you wear plays such a small role in crafting success I think at least making forbidden % rely on gear stats would encourage the crafting population to take pride and put effort into what they wear.

Also when adjusting HQ rates it would really be nice if stats played a large role in the hq %'s (especially if you make auto-HQ with all HQ mats allowing you to use some NQ mats but still have a good chance at HQ with exceptional gear would be awsome!)

Agreed! :). If I am using a +1 cobalt saw with forbidden materia compared to a weathered saw when melding forbiddens, the percentage should not be the same. With a full set of hq gear it should be quite noticeable compared to level 1 gear.

Gamblers Crown should of given a small bonus to meld % instead of some useless bonus to spirit binding which is only usable by doh :(

thats good for people who will meld their own gear but it will be bad when they add a bazaar/repiarlike funtion so other people can insert materia on the fly into your gear.

Then give us a materia or set of NM/dungeon/coffer gear with +forbidden %. It makes absolutely no sense that rank 1 gear HQ rank 50 gear have the same percentage to meld materia.

if they made stats affect rate then the rates you have now would probably still be the best outcome. All they would do is nerf the rate really bad and make you fully gear up to achieve what you can achieve now with no gear. I dont think theyll ever increase the % or make it easier in any way.


not to mention its the goblin tool that bonds the materia not your trade tools so they wouldn't have an impact anyway.

i dont mind the SB part but should been +3 - +5 SB all classes

they could but they wont, everyone would just get really good gear and throw the materia system outta balance. Multi melding is not supposed to be easy, people need to stop asking for bonus's. its bad enough crafted gear is best in game.

syntaxlies why the eff are you posting in this? you have nothing to contribute its an idea to help give crafters something other then naked r1 melding to look forward too.

i am posting in defense of people who think its fine the way it is. I double melded all my own gear and i didnt do it with a bonus. You have to expect that some people wont like your idea and those comments have to be heard as well.


Why not ask your self why better tools would make any difference when you are using the materia melder tool from the goblin npc to attach materia. it doesn't even make sense that your hammer would give a bonus to your melder.

your offhand tool doesnt grant a bonus to you main hand does it.

I sort of agree with Syntaxlies. It is already hard enough to get anything past 1 meld, if you want your gear to affect the success rate i think SE will balance that by reducing the success rate.

A better way maybe is to upgrade the goblin tool after a certain number of successful melds. That would definatelly give an advantage to people that are actually spending time and gil in the double + melding.

to me even asking for a +1 % ring would be asking alot, but i could see it happening. +1 may seem small but thats still 1 more out of a hundred that you had before.

That's funny cause all I ever see is myself using a tool to attach materia. Also, it would be pretty easy to add a goblin that has found a way to have yor strays affect the outcome of forbidden melding.

youre right and its true about the tool and melder effecting each other. it does not make sense, the tools are completely separate from one another. Though, what does make sense is the clothes or equipment currently equipped, as they're suppose to raise your stats in its entirety, melder or no melder. So, as OP said, naked melding having the same effect and chance as materia'd equipment is invalid and makes no sense.

Honestly they should only allow that for the first materia, any forbidden materia should require you to seek out someone.

I'm gonna have to partially side with syntax on this one, double and triple melds are significantly better than any other gear in the game they should be hard then again I wouldn't mind some super hard super long and tedious quest that allows you to upgrade your key item after you complete a lot of melds.

unless the melder has a unique stat (ill have to make one up for hypothetical purposes)(concentration) no matter what gear you add it would not affect the concentration stat since it is unattainable.

Perfect you answered both of your own concerns, add a new stat like concentration and put it on HQ'd gear/tools to help your materia %'s. Also you said it yourself

Excellent! you can improve your stats so that the item your prepping is in a better condition to receive the materia.

Then let those other ppl post their concerns, I'm tired of ppl on these forums posting on behalf of the "community" like their doing some service to the masses who can't speak up for themselves. I'm not asking for anything major just a few %'s for the crafters who spent the proper time to gear up vs the lazy who want to do it naked on R1 tools.

Since i'm sure I'll get nit picked over the #'s listed I did these at work from memory I would obviously put on proper gear and take a basic look at the stats etc on each job then do some quick melds to figure out proper #'s so that it is balanced.

Well besides that fact that 18% trying to attach a 4th materia is highly exaggerated (unless your going for gamblers crown and even then you're doing it wrong) and you fail to specify what 'super gear' is to you I don't think it should exceed 25%.

Back on topic: if you have a current 18% meld the absolute best you could do is improve it to:

.18 * 1.2 * 1.2 = .2592

OR 25.92%

and i'm assuming by "Super gear" you mean that the crafter has hit both of my top materia bonus's for modifiers A and B.

*this is only an example formula that took me less then 10 minutes to devise, i'm sure a developer can do a better more balanced job then I did but should be enough to get my point across.

The % change not by the level but the amount of what it give

Try this IV STR with 16 str and then try a III with STR 14 or 15 and you would see that you gain 1-2 more % so using lower version does not help it also have to do with how much it give. Gear would never help your % and it wont ever maybe one day but for now the only way is to keep trying to add stuff over and over and over.

I have made no statement as to which side I support in this matter, so... no. You're wrong about liking or disliking opinions. as i said, the op was edited with that info.

but now that i have gone back and read the revised op ill add that going from 20% to 26% is insane. I wouldn't be in favor of anyhting over 1-2 %

Wow if what you call Syntax trolling is actually trolling then people have an extremely loose definition of trolling. He provided constructive feedback of how he sees it. Just because he disagrees with you doesn't mean he is trolling your thread.

I also agree that the materia meld rate shouldn't be touched since it's the balancing mechanism of the system and raising the odds even slightly would throw everything out of whack. 1% more successful melds adds up to a ton more multi-melded materia in existence. Having a high craft level is already required to perform melds of any sort of relevance already. Once the HQ system gets revamped and you're able to better prepare/aim for it, you can use your high tier crafting gear and high crafting level to aim for that and that in turn will increase your success rate.

Please read the thread. We all know this but the thread is about having good gear to affect the percentage to attach multiple materia to gear.
